In announcing that she was stepping down as Alaska Governor on Friday, Sarah Palin noted the unrelenting hostility of liberal media elites. In the barely ten months since she burst onto the national scene, Palin has been scorned and mocked by journalists -- including many supposedly objective reporters -- like few other politicians. Here are a few of the choicer attacks, as compiled from MRC's Notable Quotables newsletter:

"She is a far-right conservative who supported Pat Buchanan over George W. Bush in 2000. She thinks global warming is a hoax and backs the teaching of creationism in public schools. Women are not likely to be impressed by her opposition to abortion even in the case of rape and incest."
— Newsweek’s Jonathan Alter in a "Web exclusive" posted on his magazine’s Web site, August 29, 2008.

"[McCain has] done it [picked Sarah Palin] at great cost, because the whole Republican convention...was going to be the slogan, ‘He’s not ready to lead,’ meaning Barack Obama. Well, Sarah Palin makes Barack Obama look like John Adams. I mean, it’s just, it’s no contest."
— Newsweek’s Howard Fineman on MSNBC’s Countdown, August 29.

Newsweek’s Eleanor Clift: "This [McCain’s selection of Sarah Palin] is not a serious choice. It makes it look like a made for TV movie. If the media reaction is anything, it’s been literally laughter in many places across news-"
Host John McLaughlin: "Where is that? See that?"
Clift: "In very, very many newsrooms."
— Exchange on The McLaughlin Group, August 31, 2008.

"I’m not that convinced that that’s her baby....The daughter — who we know is fertile because she’s knocked up again, or maybe for the first time...she did like take a five-month leave from high school because she had [uses fingers to indicate quote marks] ‘mononucleosis’ right around the time the baby was being born. And the mother, the so-called, you know, okay, maybe it is the mother, but, you know, she was back to work three days later. You don’t smell something?...It’s not like they’re not willing to lie about everything else."
— HBO’s Bill Maher on Real Time, September 5, 2008, promoting the left-wing conspiracy theory that Sarah Palin’s infant son is actually her daughter Bristol’s baby.

"If [Bobby] Jindal had been governor of Louisiana in 2005 [during Hurricane Katrina], everything would have been different, and he would be John McCain’s running mate instead of this wacko right-winger."
— Co-host Mort Kondracke talking about Sarah Palin on FNC’s The Beltway Boys, September 6, 2008.

"Before Gov. Sarah Palin came flying in from the wilds of Alaska for the Republican convention in St. Paul, there was a lot of sniggering in media rooms and satellite trucks about her beauty queen looks and rustic hobbies, and the suggestion that she was better suited to be a calendar model for a local auto body shop than a holder of the second-highest office in the land....In the press galleries at the convention, journalists wrinkled their noses in disgust when Piper, Ms. Palin’s youngest daughter, was filmed kitty-licking her baby brother’s hair into place."
— New York Times media writer David Carr, September 7, 2008.

"You know, the one thing that I don’t think anybody’s said yet is that she’s very mean to animals, this woman. Why does she have it in for these poor polar bear and the caribou and she aerial kills wolves? That’s a very mean thing to do. I think that that’s an important point."
— ABC The View co-host Joy Behar explaining her opposition to Sarah Palin, CNN’s Larry King Live, September 9, 2008.

"Is this a, like a Clarence Thomas where they wanted to pick an African-American for the Supreme Court so they picked the kind they wanted?...They have a person [Palin] here, who’s apparently, to some extent, in terms of foreign policy, tabula rasa. Someone they can fill up with all this neo-conservative thinking....Is that what they wanted, just sort of a vessel to sell and carry their product, rather than someone with independent thinking on foreign policy?"
— MSNBC’s Chris Matthews on Hardball, September 16, 2008.

CNN’s Jack Cafferty: "If John McCain wins, this woman will be one 72-year-old’s heartbeat away from being President of the United States. And if that doesn’t scare the hell out of you, it should....That [Sarah Palin’s interview with Katie Couric] is one of the most pathetic pieces of tape I have ever seen for someone aspiring to one of the highest offices in this country. That’s all I have to say."
Wolf Blitzer: "She’s cramming a lot of information."
Cafferty: "There’s no excuse for that. She’s supposed to know a little bit of this. You know, don’t make excuses for her. That’s pathetic."
— CNN’s The Situation Room, September 26, 2008.

"Is this [vice presidential debate] about her brain power?... Do you think cute will beat brains?...Do you think she’d do better on the questions on  Jeopardy or the interview they do during a half-time?...My suspicion is that she has the same lack of intellectual curiosity that the President of the United States has right now and that is scary!"
— MSNBC’s Chris Matthews during the 7pm EDT Hardball on October 2, 2008 a couple of hours before the debate.

"Here’s what’s disturbing: Either she didn’t know, because actually the legislative role [of the Vice President] is just about zero as Biden says, or -- scarier -- she has a little bit of Huey Long in her. The kind of -- you could see her being a demagogue, saying ‘I got to do this, the rules are in the way, to heck with the rules, let’s do it.’"
— Newsweek’s Evan Thomas reacting to Palin suggesting at the debate that a vice president has a legislative role, on Inside Washington, October 3, 2008.

"Can we now admit the obvious? Sarah Palin is utterly unqualified to be vice president…She has never spent a day thinking about any important national or international issue, and this is a hell of a time to start....For John McCain to have chosen this person to be his running mate is fundamentally irresponsible."
— Newsweek international editor and CNN host Fareed Zakaria in his Oct. 6, 2008 column, "Palin Is Ready? Please."

"The fact of the matter is, the comparison between her [Sarah Palin] and Hillary Clinton is the comparison between an igloo and the Empire State Building!"
— MSNBC’s Chris Matthews on Hardball, October 14, 2008.

Reporter David Wright: "Last summer, McCain mocked Obama as an empty-headed celebrity....But then he created a celebrity of his own."
Clip of John McCain: "When you get to know her, you’re going to be as impressed as I am."
Wright: "Many were impressed, but plenty of others came to see Sarah Palin as an empty designer suit."
— ABC’s World News, November 5, 2008.

“Sarah Palin: Ill-informed, inarticulate shopaholic has ego bigger than Alaska — and she’s still the darling of the GOP.”
— From Newsweek's “Conventional Wisdom” column, December 29, 2008-January 5, 2009 issue.

“Sarah Palin — now don’t laugh — is writing a book. Not just reading a book, writing a book. Actually, in the word of the publisher, she’s ‘collaborating’ on a book....What an embarrassment! It’s one of these ‘I told you,’ books that jocks do. You know she’s already declared — I mean, why they do it like this? ‘She can’t write, we got a collaborator for her.’”
— MSNBC’s Chris Matthews on Hardball, May 13, 2009.

“Here’s the question: Would you rather listen to a speech by Sarah Palin or a speech by Newt Gingrich...or would you rather just stick needles in your eyes?”
— CNN’s Jack Cafferty on The Situation Room, June 9, 2009.

Ex-MSNBC anchor Dan Abrams: “Sarah Palin, to me, is like the representative of everything that’s gone wrong [for the Republican Party] lately.”...
Comedian Chuck Nice: “Sarah Palin to the GOP, this is what I’ve got to say: She is very much like herpes — she’s not going away. Okay? That’s it.”
— Exchange on NBC’s Today, June 9, 2009.

Palin

Sarah Palin is a very nice women. I am sure she has as much intelligence as Obama, probably more. So many give him kudos for his brain power. All I hear from him is ah, oh, um...boring. Biden..well, stupid is as stupid does. So...

I won't vote for Palin, as she is part of the same establishment that got us here in the first place; and is unelectable. Much like we got stuck with Bob Dole and John McCain, she will just allow the Republican party to lose another presidential election. I will admit that I am no longer a Republican, I am a registered Independent now. I won't/don't give money to the party as I used to even though we get calls all the time. Imagine the country if everyone registered as an Independent...the chaos it would cause trying to figure out who would get your vote? Think about it. This two party system has gotten us here and is no longer functional in this day and age.

Joe - You and I

Joe -

You and I have some similarities.  I, too am a former republican and now an independent.  It does seem that the only difference between the two parties are the speed by which they intend to socialize our nation.

I have to disagree with you on Palin, however.  I think the fact that her own party was so tepid in her defense is evidence that she is not part of the "Country Club Establishment" that has re-emerged and seemingly taken over republican organization at a national level.

Palin is not part of the

Palin is not part of the Oligarchy. That's the reason she is so vehemently attacked by the elite of both parties. Palin is the only national politician that has any idea how to bring energy independance to our country by DRILLING FOR OIL!! Obamas ass is kissed and his best idea is TO AIR UP YOUR TIRES!!. Obama supports the murder of the Iranian protesters by the  mullahs and protects the dictator from regime change, and PALIN is the one attacked by the elites. As for Maureen Dowd, all she needs to restore her sanity is a good rogering. The poor old spinster can't think straight because of her sexual tension.

Nadad

After I stopped laughing, I recalled Po Mo's sappy column about her being ostracized at the family Thanksgiving dinner, as they are all relatively conservative, married, with children, and....happy!  She bemoaned that "they just don't understand her" and such crap as that, but she loved them anyway (seeing the "O" similarities here?).

Her tight lipped photo always brings to mind a miserable person who's never known happiness, love, or even known of making love (but I like "rogering" even better...it fits her sooo well).

Palin Rocks

Nobody ever believed me, but I had said she would be a great pick for McCain b4 he did it, based on a few stories I read out of Alaska. That was also b4 the msm realized what a threat she really was. And Is!

I voted in the poll with the "positioning" view, but do not have a clear notion of her motive. The msm will make negative hay with it while their sun does not shine.

Get this, my atheist son said the other day that people on the right(myself) tend to have a better outlook on life and are less likely to be depressed or angry than those on the left(himself and his "moveon" buddies. He even mentioned the word"scripture!" PTL, there is hope. See, old scratch can try tear things and families apart, but He is greater than all the world.

Atlantic as well

There's a long list of vicious and vile material from The Atlantic magazine, none of it worth quoting here.

This is what the democratics do, and we have to admit that they do it very well. The challenge for conservatives is to be much more determined and ruthless in our opposition to the Bamster without sinking to their level. No one wants to be like them, but we have to look at what tactics they have that have worked and adopt more of them.

Get that book out

I hope she kicks Matthews' book-sale ass with her book! These clowns are ridiculous--I wonder what they say about their own wives when they think no one is listening. I notice Matthews quit referring to his newscaster wife as "his queen." I guess she said, "What's that make you, some kinda king?"

They've all been echoing

They've all been echoing themselves over and over, the way they do with all of their issues. They're not worthy of attention. And Eleanor Clift! "Very, very many newsrooms are laughing at her (Sarah Palin.)" The quote of them all (to me) from the heir-apparent (Clift) to Helen Thomas' position as nut ball auntie who you keep in the attic.

Death wish

Let's see, would that be the Same Clift that actually WISHED FOR THE DEATH OF AMERICAN SOLDIERS so mas to hasten our defeat in Iraq?? WHY, YES IT WOULD!!.She is an evil old bitch that hates everything and everyone not homosexual or socialist. Anyone that wishes for the death of my relatives can kiss my ass. No Elinor, we haven't forgotten your treason.

Another POV

A different point of view:

"Whenever I make a big decision, or help someone else make a decision, I always ask this question first, 'what’s the downside?' If we ask that question about Sarah Palin’s decision to resign, there really isn’t one of any consequence. Sure, some (not all) Alaskans will be irritated. And some Americans will consider her a quitter. But as Palin begins to build her national organization in earnest, the pissy Alaskans will be equivalent to a few political gnats, and the folks in the lower 48 who will express their disapproval of her resignation don’t like Palin anyway, no matter what she does."

Scorn as a weapon

It's the ultimate ad hominem argument, to heap scorn on an opponent, so much that the need for facts or details are irrelevant.

These tactics work only because the public falls for them. I think that's the consequence of a public education given by a politically-motivated lobby.

Eleanor Clift

Hey Eleanor (and Maureen Dowd, for that matter), see you next Tuesday!

"I think you'd better call John, 'cause it don't look they're here to deliver...the mail". -NY

They won't have Sarah Palin to kick around anymore

Sarah Palin is resigning as the Governor of Alaska. I know who is going
to miss her the most, the left leaning Mainstream Media. Who will they
use for a Punching Bag Now? No more PDS, Palin Derangement Syndrome, to
try and bolster their lousy ratings, and dismal newspaper subscriptions
. When many of her detractors, go on one of their many irrational
rants, about the soon to be late Governor of Alaska. They can expect
the response to be: So What, and Who Cares? Sarah Palin isn’t part of
the Government anymore, she will be a private citizen. The Easiest Way
to Win At Tug Of War.

A sad day for Republicans!

I consider myself a Libertarian but I really loved Sarah Palin.  As I have often said, I voted for Palin last year and not for McCain.  Of those two, she was the only true maverick.  My guess is that the Letterman attacks on her daughter and the recent Vanity Fair article finally pushed her to this decision in order to protect her family.  I don't know if she will ever get back into the political arena, but the U.S. will certainly be a better place if she indeed does.

Nonstop Hysteria

Palin has induced such liberal hysteria that she can command attention in  the obama-press like no other conservative.

It's fairly easy to manipulate liberals into exposing themselves as bigoted, poorly educated fools.

Leftists have insufficient brains to accord minimal respect towards those who feed them.

The solution is for us to stop feeding them.

The "Palin Nice woman comment"

She is a nice woamn who is not scared of saying what she thinks. That is what scares the left. She is saying what alot of us believe and want to see happen is this country. LESS goverment and more personal responsibility. I am not responsibile for all of the bailouts, paybacks and takeovers. I have not received a dollor form ALL this money we are spending and I do not need it. I have managed my finances and I am getting along. I will vote for her if she runs in 2012, as she is the most responsible person we have in the Rep party right now. We need to stand up as the party that says the government has gone too far and now is the time to draw the line. Do we want to be responsible for our own lives or have the "government TAKE care of us". I am a VET and I know how a government run health agancy can be a nightmare.  It seems strange that BIG GOVERMNENT is going to solve all problems from the 60's on yet can you name one that HAS BEEN SOLVED? I can't and we spend BILLIONS trying. I am a republican and proud of it as long as the party of Reagan is the lead.

“War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature, and has no chance of being free unless made or kept so by the exertions of better men than himself” --- John Stuart Mill

Libs confused, frightened

I'm glad that Sarah Palin has been the reason why so many libs have revealed their confused, frightened state of mind.

No one has ever received so much scorn and hatred as Sarah. Not even George Bush. The libs flocked to Alaska trying to find dirt on her. They didn't find any, so they made it up.

Sarah Palin

Let's see, she can no longer be charged with "ethics" violations everytime she leaves the state by the maggot fleas of dnc activists;she can go the congressional districts that were, until 2006, conservative leaning(voted Bush in 2004)and campaign against, and raise money to defeat the so called blue dogs dug up by Emanuel that gave San Fran Nan the Speakership of the House, that turn around gets us the House and her many many grassroots, local candidate support outside the GOP in the Beltway establishment; she can raise cash for others, always a good way to make friends and influence people in politics; she can focus on energy policy and as  the cap and tax impacts working (blue collar "Reagan Democrats", with her life story and pro-life pro 2nd Amendment positions begin to reform the conservative coalition. Thes are things she could not do as govenor, or in /during 2010. To resign as a lame duck is just the type of proactive moving forward type of thinking, rahter than hanging on  ,pretending to be doing a job(shout out to "Senator BO") just because its easy. High risk with potentially enormous rewards. Even if she doesn't succeed, at least she can make enough money to care for her kids. Now the gutter snipes, I mean media will be attacking a private person. That might cost them.

Its a cruel cruel world

In announcing that she was stepping down as Alaska Governor on Friday,
Sarah Palin noted the unrelenting hostility of liberal media elites. In
the barely ten months since she burst onto the national scene, Palin
has been scorned and mocked by journalists -- including many supposedly
objective reporters -- like few other politicians. Here are a few of
the choicer attacks, as compiled from MRC's Notable Quotables newsletter:

Thank God we found she didn't have the stomach for grief before she was getting daily security briefs.George W Bush got 10 time the grief she did, and he didn't whine about it. Say what you like, but there is a stark difference in how Bush handled attacks and Palin handles attacks. Her victim posture is very unattractive.

http://newsbusters.o...

NWAHS, you remind me of a little bully who tortures animals for.

fun.

GWB should have said something about it, but was either too busy or exhausted by the MSMs constant pummeling.  He was being beat up too early and often to be able to respond to all of the outlandish BS that was tossed at him.

Sarah, OTOH, is showing some moxie for not putting up with your type of people who would rather gang up on somebody and beat the living snot out of them instead of a fair one on one fight.

You're just a little imp w/ a big mouth.
