ABC’s Shipman: Sotomayor Is No ‘Elite Liberal Judicial Philosopher’

On Sunday’s This Week roundtable, ABC national correspondent Claire Shipman tried to argue that it would be “very hard” for Republicans to label Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor a liberal. “When you look at Sotomayor's record and look at the cases, it's very hard for people to make the case that she's a typical, you know, elite liberal judicial philosopher,” Shipman declared.

That was too much even for liberal columnist Cynthia Tucker, who is currently the editorial page editor of the Atlantic Journal-Constitution but will this summer move to Washington as the paper’s D.C.-based political columnist. “She is certainly liberal, she’s called herself liberal,” Tucker informed Shipman, but agreed that Sotomayor is “nobody’s knee-jerk radical.”

Shipman used to appear on the This Week panel alongside her husband, then-Time magazine Washington bureau chief Jay Carney, but Carney has since joined the Obama administration as a top aide to Vice President Joe Biden.

Here’s a bit more of the exchange that took place on the June 7 roundtable:

CLAIRE SHIPMAN: "I think it's also hard when you look at Sotomayor's record and look at the cases, it's very hard for people to make the case that she's a typical, you know, elite liberal judicial philosopher. I mean, really, she's not. Her cases go back and forth. It's going to be hard for the Republicans to try to pin down what that means. She's tended to give -- to be tough on crime, to give police the benefit of the doubt...."

CYNTHIA TUCKER: "As Claire just said, her opinions don't show -- she is certainly liberal, she's called herself 'liberal' -- but she's nobody's knee-jerk radical. In fact, she often sides with the prosecution in cases, probably from her experience as a young prosecutor...."

I heard these two leftist

I heard these two leftist hens speaking of this earlier today...actually comical when one has to correct another about if another leftist liberal is really a liberal or not.

Claire clucks away all the time, she is one of the dumbest there are as far as political talking heads and page splashers go...The View would hire her if they need a replacement...and she'd fit right in.

Hey, bt....going OT a bit, but did you catch that View link I put up the other day?

It's hilarious!

I did!

If I didn't comment then, I sure as heck meant to, because it is hilarious and fits that crew to a tee.

Glad you posted it again for any that haven't seen it.

Btw..now that I think about it, I think I agreed with you and added on she may also grow up to be a great (leftist) politician...something along those lines.

I agree. Shipman makes a 15 watt bulb look like a beacon. That she's considered a journalist is laughable. As for Tucker, she's more suited to the New Black Panthers newsletter than any "reputable" news organization.

You also have me laughing, I agree on both of your counts.

You can bet Holder just loves Tucker...along with the New Black Panthers.

What's the bag limit?

Isn't there a bag limit for the number of dumb liberal press advocates a liberal press organization can hire?

Not sure that's better

The last thing we need is a liberal swing vote. We don't need a deliberately "open" vote whose opinion is constantly up for grabs. The law ceases to be law if you make it up as you go along.

  The fact that everyone

The fact that everyone in the MSM is fawning all over Sotormayor only proves she's a hard lefty. If this woman was a moderate or slightly right of center they would be fuming and trying to tear her down.

This would be one of the times the majority of the leftist loon loving O lemmings in the msm would go against his choice if she wasn't.

If liberals are so proud of

If liberals are so proud of who they are and what they represent, why do they discount their own existence when challenged about being a liberal?

I guess it's like the existence of Satan.  The greatest trick he ever did was convince people he doesn't exist.  That's a one way ticket to hell andhe knows it.  So do the liberals.

When the people fear the government it's called tyranny, when the government fears the people it's called liberty!

You tell me

"In fact, she often sides with the prosecution in cases, probably from her experience as a young prosecutor...."

Is this not a tacit admission that she is likely to side with Latinas, given her experience as a young Latina?

I agree

She is just a garden variety bigot and a Constitutional dunce in the bargain.

She is no elitist, just not smart enough.

You could also say her opinions and speeches exude strong 'Latina' nationalism, but that is problaly covered by her bigotry.

I believe they prefer the

I believe they prefer the term 'progressive'.

Doesn't conjure up images of Gulags and unwashed hippies waving red flags in the streets or something I guess.

One of the 34% who thinks George W. Bush was a great President. One of the 61% who wants to bring back the stock and pillory (yep...approval for Congress now at 39%...do you believe that!?).

semantics

Okay, so she's not "an elite liberal judicial philosopher."

She's a liberal-snob judge whose weak rationale for her sexist/racist attitude makes it clear that she's no philosopher.

Can we take "This Week" seriously

George Stephanopolous, a Clinton lackey, has a softball interview with Hillary Clinton, and then Claire Shipman, whose husband works for VP Biden, is asked her opinions regarding the Obama-Biden admin. Incredible.

Cynthia Tucker is moving to D.C.?

LOL-Has anyone told Neal Boortz? It would make his month. Perhaps even his year.

Ah, well, whatever gets her out of Atlanta.

As for Shipman, she is just doing her part to help spread the lefty GCM* propaganda that is seeking to redefine extreme left-wingers as being moderates.

Hey, it worked for them with Obama. The members of the GCM served up a steady diet of lies painting him as a moderate, and the stoopid sheeple ate it up by the plate-full.

Why tamper with success?

Well...

"When you look at Sotomayor's record and look at the cases, it's very hard for people to make the case that she's a typical, you know, elite liberal judicial philosopher."

Technically this is a correct statement as Sotomayor is no philosopher, she's a liberal impersonating a philosopher. But, then again, that's what liberals do; impersonate.

Watts on Soto

Some very welcome plain talk on Sotomayor and the confirmation process from J. C. Watts:

"But please spare us the hogwash that if a nominee has a great rags to riches story, he or she is entitled to a lifetime appointment to the highest court in the land." (Ref)

How Stupid

How stupid do you have to be to not see that a woman who has made sexist and racist comments and has had over 60% of her decisions overturned by the SC, that she's a liberal.  I refuse to watch network news because they no longer have journalists, they have Democratic cheerleaders who are bimbos and morons.

Sotomayor Breaks Ankle

Here's hoping that she finds a good female Puerto Rican doctor who through the enriched experiences of her life will be better qualified to mend the racists ankle.  Wouldn't want her to be subjected to those inferior white honky doctors!

SOTOMAYOR LOGIC

CRIME STATS & SOTOMAYER LOGIC

From IBD 6.8-09:

One of the eight reasons Sotomayor et al. give for opposing capital
punishment is that it “creates inhuman psychological burdens for the
offender and his/her family.” So what about the trauma inflicted on the
families of his/her victims? What about the children orphaned, the
wives widowed? This is empathy gone terribly wrong.

The Sotomayor memo also says: “The problem of crime and society is
so complex, it is unreasonable to think that capital punishment will
result in preventing it or diminishing it.” If Sotomayor doesn’t think
the death penalty is a deterrent, just ask the family of a prison guard
murdered in a state without it. Without the death penalty, such a crime
is possible.

Without the death penalty, the clerk of a convenience store being
robbed is likelier to be murdered, eliminating the only witness to a
crime. In many crimes, if the predator faced the ultimate penalty, the
victim might not.

As researcher John Lott Jr. reports: “Generally, the studies over
the last decade that examined how the murder rates in each state
changed as they changed their execution rate found that each execution
saved the lives of roughly 15 to 18 potential murder victims.”

Then there’s the Sotomayor kicker: “Capital punishment is associated
with evident racism in our society. The number of minorities and the
poor executed or awaiting execution is out of proportion to their
numbers in the population.”

Fact is, murders and victims don’t fall in neat demographic columns.
Black people represented an estimated 13% of the U.S. population in
2005 but were the victims of 49% of all murders. According to the FBI
Uniform Crime Report, 2007, 90.2% of black murder victims were murdered
by other blacks. Do we care more about black murderers or black victims?
=====
CRAWFISH NOTE: Will we ever see the day when the liberals realize that moral choices are the root of crime?
That fornication families breed criminals? That dropouts breed
criminals. That hateful rap & victim worship breeds criminals?
That unearned money rarely raises morality? That Churches play a positive role in lowering crime?
Maybe not…since modern liberalism is a mental disorder cured only by reality acceptance which requires common sense logic.
