AP Deletes Own Absurd Texas Voter ID Claim

By P.J. Gladnick | July 12, 2012 | 10:26

A  A

Imagine how much laughter would be induced by a young person who claimed an inability to find work because he or she lacked the time to obtain a Social Security card. Even more laughable would be someone who takes the time to fly from Texas to Washington, D.C. in order to testify at a trial yet claims she can't find the time to obtain a voter identification card. Well, Henry Jackson of the Associated Press actually wrote that up with a straight face until AP was forced to delete it after the sheer absurdity of it was pointed out by J. Christian Adams of PJ Media.  Here is the AP laughline care of Adams before it was deleted in sheer embarrassment:

Victoria Rose Rodriguez, 18, told a federal court in Washington that she had limited documentation — a birth certificate, a high school transcript and a student ID card with a photo on it — but is currently a registered voter in Texas. She said her parents are too busy to take her or her twin sister to get the new voter identification cards required by the law.

Adams' story was posted at 2:19 PM on July 11 and just a few hours later the AP deleted  Jackson's inadvertent comedy nugget from their voter id story via an update at 5:30 PM CDT. The deletion obviously came after the AP folks read Adams' appreciation of Jackson's unintentional comedy act:

Naturally, Henry Jackson doesn’t seem to note this obvious laugher, that Rodriguez has parents too busy to get the ID, but can hop a plane in San Antonio and spend at least a day in Washington, D.C., and then ride back home. In fact, Jackson (and the rest of press) simply laps up the government’s stories without question.

Unintentional comedy from Henry Jackson at AP which inspired this intentional comedy skit from Adams:

There was a time in the Voting Section when the DOJ wouldn’t introduce such absurd evidence. The conversation would go something like this:

Young lawyer: I want to call Victoria Rodriguez. Her parents are too busy to give her a ride to get photo ID. They don’t have the 30 minutes to spare.

Older seasoned lawyer: Well, do you really think that is a good idea? Don’t you think we open ourselves up to a devastating cross examination about priorities?

Young lawyer: I’m not sure I follow.

Older seasoned lawyer: We’re not going to call her. Texas will point out the absurdity of us calling a witness to say she doesn’t have time to get a photo ID but can fly 2000 miles to testify at trial. Who took the time to drive her to the airport? We’d need to get her a cab to make this story work. Isn’t going to happen. It could prove embarrassing.

Add a southern accent to the old seasoned lawyer and I’m pretty sure this is the exact conversation that would occur. These days, as we know, irrational decisions are being made from root to branch.

Fortunately for Henry Jackson, AP mercifully deleted his laugh line from his story after the PJ Media mockery so he was able to dodge the laughingstock bullet... Uh, NOT A CHANCE! With the NewsBusters Eye of Sauron firmly focused upon him, Jackson's deleted absurdity is destined to spread far and wide on the Web. Rather than be forgotten, his laugh line will follow him now and forever...unto the end of time.

Virtually all of the sob

Submitted by texastommy on Thu, 07/12/2012 - 10:41am.

Virtually all of the sob stories the dumb-o-crats bring to congress are pure crap. $3,000 for birth control?

Yet the press just repeats it, and then adds a "so, whataya goin to do about it republicans? You're heartless and cruel if you don't give Fluke her rubbers. She only needs, apparently, 278 per day. Oh, and that's why she doesn't have time to get a photo ID. Whaaaaaaaah Whaaaaaaah!"

watch their phrasing...

Submitted by OuttaMyWay on Thu, 07/12/2012 - 10:51am.

it was mentioned by Ms. Fluke phrased in a weird way, not as a type that costs $3000. Maybe a brand of BC patch could cost $250 a month with no insurance OR more likely the cost is a $3000 a year policy and get BC covered in it.

I just realized i need a new $50,000 Excursion because i have to drive across town.

No doubt she has time to go

Submitted by MrSnuggles on Thu, 07/12/2012 - 10:45am.

No doubt she has time to go to planned parenthood for free birth control or an abortion when needed. But cannot possibly be expected to go get an ID.

Too busy? Or too lazy?

Submitted by CobraMan on Thu, 07/12/2012 - 11:18am.

This girl is claiming that her parents are "too busy." But what abort the 18 year old girl herself? She doesn't need her parents to "take" her anywhere. If they're old enough to vote, then their old enough to drive themselves to wherever they need to go. Ether that, or walk, or bike, or whatever. I mean, really, how lazy are these girls?

Indeed it does. Our taxes reflect it.

Submitted by drsamherman on Thu, 07/12/2012 - 9:54pm.

For those of you who are not Texans, we do not have a state income tax. Our taxes are mostly on sales (including local add-ons which all municipalities have all but maxed-out), very high property taxes but a low cost of living on just about everything else.

That Victoria could somehow sail through TSA security at San Antonio International Airport and somehow get to Washington and back without some form of identification and transportation to/from the airport is a good question. Traditionally, in the Latino community, girls are considered to be adults at their 15th birthday (celebrated as sort of a "sweet 15" = quincaneara) and most Texas teens are already behind the wheel by their 16th birthdays with learner's permits, the girl's story is about as believable as Obama's composite girlfriend.

The driving age in Texas is

Submitted by Free Stinker on Thu, 07/12/2012 - 11:29am.

The driving age in Texas is 16. I'm supposed to belive this girl didn't walk herself to the motor vehicle agency to get a license? When I was old enough to drive, I would have walked 30 miles to get my drivers license.

Can't Obama just make a law that penaliz......uh, taxes you...uh, pena....taxes you, I mean, if you don't get an ID? It's not fair that some of us have proper ID while other 'free-riders' go without.

I'd like to know, did she pay

Submitted by ant on Thu, 07/12/2012 - 10:08pm.

I'd like to know, did she pay for this travel to testify herself or did the Demoncrats finance it with taxpayer dollars? If so, it's an outrage. That they would even think about using Americans' money in an attempt to undermine fair and legal voting in America in this fashion.
