Did ABC News Purposely Use Unnecessary Chyron to Cover Up Zimmerman's Head Bruise?

By P.J. Gladnick | March 30, 2012 | 09:04

A  A

Get that totally unnecessary chyron out of there, ABC News!

Why is your "ABC NEWS EXCLUSIVE" chyron covering up the back of George Zimmerman's head in the police surveillance video of him arriving at the police station soon after Trayvon Martin was killed in Sanford, Florida? There is a big controversy out there as to whether Zimmerman actually did suffer certain injuries including a bruise to the back of his head during the fight with Martin. You would think ABC News would allow an unobstructed view of the back of Zimmerman's head. Instead the head was covered for much of the time by a completely redundant chyron since there was already an unobtrusive ABC News label in the lower right of the screen.

A suspicious mind might even think that ABC News was trying to cover something up with that annoying chyron. And one such person is Bob Owens, a Pajamas Media contributor, who makes just such an accusation in his personal blog:

video platform video management video solutions video player

More disgusting is the obvious fact that ABC News used a strategically placed chyron (graphic) to cover up the back of Zimmerman’s head for their broadcast, covering up the video evidence that would have disproven their story. View the video at the Daily Caller, and you’ll note that they did not even need a chyron, as there was no need to transmit any additional visual data to explain the story. The only logical reason the chyron exists is to cover-up Zimmerman’s wounds.

ABC News doctored the video to sell a false narrative, in a dishonest attempt to brand a man a murderer. I’d be very interested to know if Zimmerman can pursue legal action against ABC for constructing this false narrative.

Owen also claimed that ABC News "blatantly lied" about what the video showed citing a report at the Daily Caller:

“A police surveillance video taken the night that Trayvon Martin was shot dead shows no blood or bruises on George Zimmerman,” ABC News reporter Matt Gutman wrote, noting that Zimmerman told police “he shot Martin after he was punched in the nose, knocked down and had his head slammed into the ground.”

ABC News reported that Zimmerman appears uninjured in the video. But a still image from the video indicates what appears to be a vertical laceration or scar several inches long.

So what do you think Dear Reader? Was that obtrusive chyron merely an innocent mistake or a coverup attempt by ABC News? And does ABC News reporter Matt Gutman need to see an eye doctor?

Are you suggesting that ABC might be deliberately misleading viewers while reporting on a highly controversial story to further a liberal talking point? The humanity!

Another interesting observation...

Submitted by c5then on Fri, 03/30/2012 - 9:22am.

Surveillance video alwas has a date and time-stamp in one of the corners of the video. It is recorded that way on purpose. To get rid of it, you either have to crop the video or otherwise tamper with it.

Where is the data and time stamp in the ABC video?

Wasn't it ABC that doctored

Submitted by Dan The Man 2 on Fri, 03/30/2012 - 9:25am.

Wasn't it ABC that doctored the 911 call to make it seem like Zimmerman calling out Trayvon as a black man and the whole 911 call not used. Selective editing. Something they could and most likely did get away with years ago.

We won't know all the facts until the state investigator . . .

Submitted by Galvanic on Fri, 03/30/2012 - 9:26am.

. . . makes a report.

I suspect that, not unlike the Duke lacrosse case, the media and the Race Industry will look stupid when it does.

With what little we know at this point, it appears to be a case of Zimmerman exceeding his authority/responsibities as a Neighorhood Watch member triggering an overreaction by Martin, creating a situation that got out of control in a matter of seconds. But there are so many questions that remain to be answered. It appears that more than one person witnessed all or part of this incident, so it's important to know what they've reported.

But one thing we know for sure: It's Bush's fault (Someone has already blamed Jeb Bush).

It's important to remember that Zimmerman was on a personal errand at the time he observed Martin, and not acting as a neighborhood watch captain at the time. Which makes his status as a neighborhood watch captain as relevant as his employment as an underwriter.

Investigate

Submitted by dan iroticiv on Fri, 03/30/2012 - 9:34am.

NBC purposely edited the dispatcher's tape to make it sound like zimmerman was targeting martin only because he was black. They left out the police dispatch asking zimmerman what the person looked like, and only played zimmerman saying "he looks to be black" This does not belong only on newsbusters. Apparently the only friend we have in the media is Fox News. Newsbusters please get Foxnews to investigate this disgusting manipulation of our news. We are use to the leftie bias slant, but now the mainstream media is making shit up.

Interesting

Submitted by texusmc on Fri, 03/30/2012 - 9:44am.

that the one Police Officer keep LOOKING at the back of Zimmerman's head and as they are walking away you finally get past the graphic you truly do see a long black (clotted blood?) line on the back of Zimmerman's head. As C5then points out- no time stamp, and if its truly a police security video, wouldnt it be stationary? A fixed camera doesn't really move with everyone walking around. Just really odd.

I was thinking the same

Submitted by midnight cowboy on Fri, 03/30/2012 - 2:17pm.

I was thinking the same thing. The camera movement is not done by remote toggle since it is very unsteady and shaky. Therefore since when do fixed stationery cameras move with the action? Add the unsteady camera, lack of time stamp, and the panning to follow the action it makes one think this is not a security/surveillance camera. If you watch the borders of the frame you can see at times a grey solid border appearing either from the bottom or the upper right side of the frame, which indicates that this was most likely a hand held camera recording the action from a window or a monitor. So the next question would be why would someone be recording this, since at the time this happened, nobody even heard of Zimmerman which leads to is this even Zimmerman?

They also use a technique of "shaking the image"

Submitted by gopcongress on Fri, 03/30/2012 - 2:09pm.

Note that they also use a technique that some videographers use to simulate "human" control of a camera. The image is shaking like someone is taping this live, when in reality the image is from a FIXED CAMERA LOCATION. This is done because it adds to the emotive content, ala Rodney King style.

But a more blatant example of media distortion of facts can be provided in the doctoring of the 911 call by NBC that Brent Bozell mentioned in his interview with Sean Hannity on another thread.

Even more obvious evidence of tampering by ABC News . . .

Submitted by redhunter on Sat, 03/31/2012 - 11:11pm.

Aside from the placement of the chyron, the video looks like it was shot by a handheld camera and not a fixed security camera. However, it most certainly was shot by a fixed security camera, so how can the video seem to bounce up and down slightly? Answer: the video was first cropped and then edited further by sliding the video up and down in order that his head would be continually placed under the chyron. Someone has already mentioned that the video looked cropped since the date and time stamp is missing, but this is the reason why it was cropped.

A line has been crossed...

Submitted by Jimi Streets on Sun, 04/01/2012 - 4:41am.

The MSM are falling over themselves to convince the nation that Zimmerman is a murdering racist whose guilt condemns all of us (thanks Obama) as racist citizens of a racist country.
The clip ABC Exclusively Doctored and the NBC incident in which they purposely edited out a portion of Zimmerman's conversation with the 911 operator in order to make Zimmerman look racist, therefore a racist murderer. In today's society, thanks to pop culture and the media, there could not be anyone more evil than a racist murderer.
This is an extraordinarily evil thing the press has done, when they purposely with malicious intent, aid and abet in not only putting Zimmerman's life in danger amid bounties and death threats, but on a larger scale INTENTIONALLY and with malice aforethought pour gasoline on the flames of racial discontent and anger on the part of an already fired up black community.
Anger kindled and fanned by sins of commission and omission of our president, who tends to say stupid things to insert himself into situations, making things worse. Or, when calm, timely words of wisdom (you know, the kind of stuff we should EXPECT from our president!) can carry enough weight to actually quell trouble, Obama says NOTHING!!
I'll tell it like it is: The MSM, the usual race hucksters, and to a lesser extent Obama, are all guilty of inciting unrest in this country.
If the summer doesn't go down as 1968 all over again then you can bet that when Obama loses in November all hell will break loose. Mark it down

Its not paranoia if they're really out to get you...
