Planned Parenthood Urges 'Talking Turkey' on Abortion Over the Holiday Table

By Penny Starr | December 16, 2011 | 12:34

A  A

Planned Parenthood’s New York City affiliate has posted an article telling visitors to its Web site how to successfully discuss abortion around the “holiday table.”

The article, “Talking Turkey: 8 Easy Steps for Discussing Reproductive Health and Justice at the Holiday Table,” also includes a quiz to help people prepare for “touchy questions about your politics over the dinner table.”

Planned Parenthood posted the article ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday. It begins by warning readers about pro-life relatives.

“The holidays are upon us!” the article begins. “Going home or getting together with relatives for the holidays is always a stressful time, but if your family members are the type who regularly protest outside the local Planned Parenthood, you know that this holiday is going to be a doozy.”

“Luckily, we have some tips for surviving those awkward conversations,” the article states. “So read on, and bring some diplomacy and understanding to the table along with that pumpkin pie.”

The eight tips range from “Avoid Bumper Sticker Talk,” telling readers to “steer clear of catchall phrases,” to “Know Your Facts, But Keep the Conversation More Global.” The latter states that while it is good to “clarify misinformation,” including that emergency contraception ends a pregnancy, it is often more fruitful to discuss the broader “value” of Planned Parenthood.

A tip on the Web site tells readers how to recognize “a question that isn’t a real question,” and how to respond.

Question: “I don’t want my tax dollars going toward abortions.

Response: “Actually, because of the Hyde Amendment, tax dollars can’t go toward supporting abortion. But I do believe that everyone deserves access to basic, preventive reproductive care, and that it’s important we support those services. No one should ever have to choose between paying rent and buying birth control.”

The Hyde Amendment prevents federal dollars from paying for abortions in the United States except in the cases of rape, incest, or when the mother’s life is in danger.

Tip No. 8 on the Web site urges people to “practice” discussing abortion over the holidays by using sample questions and answers provided by Planned Parenthood, the largest abortion provider in the United States.

The quiz consists of five multiple choice questions with the “right” answer reflecting what the preceding article states.

One question asks what one should say to “cousin Charlie” when he asks if abortion ends a life.

The “correct” answer is A – “Well Charlie, the decision about whether or not you’re ready to become a parent is a very important one, and that’s why I think everybody should have a chance to become a parent only when they’re ready.”

Question 4 is about legislation in Mississippi that would have amended the state’s constitution to give unborn children status as a person with the same protections granted all citizens.  If people express disappointment about the measure failing, one should say the legislation was “too extreme,” according to Planned Parenthood.

The final question touts the benefit of sex education and maligns “abstinence only classes.” The “correct” answer states that “comprehensive sex education” helps young people “delay first sexual conduct.”

If a reader does not pick the “right” answers, the advice is given at the conclusion of the quiz to review Planned Parenthood’s guide “pronto” so you do not alienate people and can “win some allies over to your side.”

Th correct answer is:

Submitted by c5then on Fri, 12/16/2011 - 1:02pm.

C: Yes, Charlie, all abortion ends a life and results in the death of a person.

Paying the electric bill to keep the lights on or paying the salary of the receptionist in the clinic supports the abortions that they perfom there. Therefore any federal tax dollars that go to Planned Parenthood, or any organization that performs abortions, illegaly support abortion.

“steer clear of catchall phrases,”

Submitted by motherbelt on Fri, 12/16/2011 - 1:26pm.

unless that phrase is "women's reproductive health."

\sarc off

That aside, the very idea that abortion is a suitable topic for the Christmas dinner table (it it's handled appropriately) is revolting.

You could bring it up in clever ways, like saying "Boy, it sure would make cleaning the turkey a whole lot easier if we used the baby brain vacuums they have at Planned Parenthood!"

If a pro-life group proposed

If a pro-life group proposed the same thing to get donations, liberals would be running around with their skirts up over their heads, screaming about "politicizing" football.

Maybe it can start by saying that some procedures for abortion are much like pulling the legs and wings off the turkey...

Sorry but these (fetuses) are real people suffering real death.

for instance: Intact dilation and extraction or Vacuum aspiration both great for dinner conversation...

"choice,"  and "women's rights." to kill ones own child:

In 2000, cases of rape or incest accounted for 1% of abortions.[38] Another study, in 1998, revealed that in 1987-1988 women reported the following as their primary reasons for choosing an abortion:[39]

25.9% Want to postpone childbearing
21.3% Cannot afford a baby
14.1% Has relationship problem or partner does not want pregnancy
12.2% Too young; parent(s) or other(s) object to pregnancy
10.8% Having a child will disrupt education or job
7.9% Want no (more) children

 "reproductive health":

3.3% Risk to fetal health
2.8% Risk to maternal health

2.1% Other

Planned Parenthood, the most

Submitted by Liberallies on Fri, 12/16/2011 - 6:23pm.

Planned Parenthood, the most heartless, inhumane organization on planet Earth.

My goodness, these monsters.

Through my years of fighting against abortion providers, of marching, of praying infront of abortion clinics, 9 out of 10 individuasl who are for abortion or are about to get an abortion are very much poorly informed and have been misguided and told many lies.

We must pray hard, very hard for an end to abortion. God is Mercyful, but what we are doing as a culture and society to the least of his children, is not going unnoticed.

We must fight against abortion every chance we get.

We must be well informed and know our statistics well. I can't find it know, but I once saw a youtube video of two clubs at a university, pro-life vs. pro-choice, debating. The pro-lifers destroyed the pro-abortionist. What was incredible that at one point after scientifically proving that life begins at conception and doing through science, not with any type of religion, the pro-abortionist club answered, "Science means what we want it to mean to each one of us" It was incredible.

Leftists are the least scientific minds on planet Earth.

Isn't funny how pro-abortionist love, adore, worship government regulations, except when it comes to government protecting the God given Right of a baby to live. Well, unless you are a mass murderer waiting the death penalty to be carried out, then the pro-abortionists will fight for the life of the mass murderer.

Talking Turkey

Submitted by m1xram on Sun, 12/18/2011 - 1:26am.

That was their metaphor? I guess we could discuss premeditated child murder while carving a turkey. Certainly the connection is clear and unambiguous although different tools are used and we would need a live restrained turkey. It may be a bit much for the dinner table.
