When Marie Claire magazine isn't busy making women feel like they are too old or too fat, they are telling women who drive SUVs they'll be heading to "carbon emissions hell."
The September 2007 issue of Marie Claire features a sidebar in their "McBulletin" section entitled "Highway to Heaven."
"Consult our quick guide to fuel-efficient cars, then cruise through the tollbooth at the pearly green gates," the tag line explained, nestled between a scale of "good" and "evil" signs.
According to the piece, if you drive a Toyota Prius Hybrid or a Honda Civic Hybrid, you are pious and your reward is "Dinner in heaven with Leonardo DiCaprio."
Drive a Honda Civic or Accord, Toyota Corolla, Ford Escape Hybrid 4WD or Toyota Highlander Hybrid 4WD and you will get a "Bear hug from Al Gore."
More like Manbearpig hug from Al Gore.
If you want Greenpeace to "slash your tires," drive cars like the Lexus Rx, Ford F-150 4WD, Jeep Wrangler 4WD or Ford Mustang.
And to those who dare to drive a Hummer, Ford Explorer or Cadillac Escalade, Marie Claire said: "We'll see you in carbon-emissions hell."
Marie Claire is published by Hearst magazines, the publisher of Esquire, Cosmopolitan, Redbook and O: The Oprah Magazine.

INCONVENIENT FACT:
August 15, 2007 - 12:44 ET by mattmIncreases in atmospheric CO2 FOLLOW periods of warming, so such increases can NOT POSSIBLY be the cause of "Global Warming" - in fact, it's more likely that CO2 increases are the result of it.
BTW - This "hell" thing demonstrates the religious, as opposed to scientific, nature of the APGW standpoint.
Ewwww.
August 15, 2007 - 12:51 ET by Dave in TexasUh, oh. I qualify for the Al Gore bear hug. Anyone wanna trade me their trip to hell?
I always love it when these magazines (that were printed on paper that came from trees, and distributed by trucks that run on gasoline, and are filled with advertisements for every distant vacation spot imaginable) tell the rest of us how evil we are, but can't seem to find any criticism for themselves.

Religion
August 15, 2007 - 13:54 ET by mattmLiberals have a religion, it's called Humanism. Their 'god' is themselves, as was perfectly demonstratted at the 1992 National convention when Clinton misquoted scripture and said "Eye has not seen....what WE can build."
The correct quotation is "Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him." - I Cor. 2:9

Can't do it in the middle of the Alaskan wilderness that would cut too many trees down. Or will they make an exception because Gore is a Lib-Dem? I think I see a Jim Jones and a Jonestown in their future. I guess this is eveidence of what drove them to the BDS madness, their reverence for Gore. (sarc/off)

August 15, 2007 - 13:41 ET by LeonHey Paul,
Thanks goodness. It's about time somebody started covering tabloid magazines! You know, since they're such a great source for news.
I can see your next post now. "Cosmo's, 10 Ways to Satisfy Your Man, article, anti-Christian, pushes Liberal's pro-pre-marital sex agenda!"
I'd think your post was fake if it wasn't on the NB.
Ashley Olsen
August 15, 2007 - 14:02 ET by Paul DetrickNot a great source for news? Umm what do you call the cover article entitled, "Ashley Olsen: On Style, Passion & Mary Kate, 'Our Bond is Beyond Words'"
Thanks for reading my post Leon. I appreciate your comments. You made me LOL.

Snappy response. That whole clever thing seems to be working out for you.
I just noticed you put this post in the humor section which is strange considering it's entirely devoid of humor. Next time you intend to be satirical you should try to be a little bit more clear.
My apologies, your 'humor' went right over my head and the head of all the other NBs that answered your post seriously (i.e. the entire posting thread) That's strange we ALL didn't know you were being facetious.
Simple communication breakdown I suppose.

We haven't seen a "green" car made for wheelchairs, so maybe these greenies are a discriminatory group after all, hum?! Not only do they hate gas guzzlers (their term), but don't want wheelchair bound citizens to get to work. How do they balance this with the guys who protect them, come back without legs, and want to go to work? They truly are against capitalism and civilization. Hooray for the druids!

August 15, 2007 - 14:36 ET by drillanwrPaul,
The fact of the matter is that there is a certain segment of the US female population that actually thinks it's getting real news from these waiting room publications ... What's even more frightening, they vote. THIS is why some people give weight to celebrity views and opinions. I mean, if they're rich and famous their opinions and feelings must be smart and omnipotent.

Can conservatives have hybrids?
August 15, 2007 - 20:40 ET by niner-four-whiskeyI know saying "hybrid vehicle" on a conservative blog elicits nearly the same response as just saying "Halliburton" on a dimm-o-crat blog or saying "Bose" on an audio equipment message board.
But heck, my wife got a Hybrid Lexus RX400 a few months ago and we just love the thing. It's comfy, quiet as a church mouse, gets great mileage for the class of vehicle it is and well, I don't see anything wrong with polluting a little less than if we'd bought the same vehicle in the gas only version. My wife's driving cycle fits the hybrid pretty well too, better than the diesel VW that she had before.
With all the good deals we got on it, the tax credit (bought before it went down), a discount off sticker and the "green car" financing rate at my credit union, it really wasn't a bad deal at all. With California Bay Area gas prices being what they are, the payback period is pretty reasonable. If gas goes down, it will take longer, but I figured it at about 3 years.

August 15, 2007 - 20:53 ET by BlondeHey 94,
If it makes good sense for you to own a hybrid...more power to you. Whatever floats your own particular economic boat. That's the beauty of a free market. Lexus makes a lovely vehicle. So enjoy your new car.
And hopefully you can dump it in 3 years before you have to replace the battery.
I work in the waste industry...and we're scratching our heads over how to deal with this issue. It's going to be a problem. And (oh, how I sincerely hope) not a governmental issue....for those who need to dispose of the battery....pay for it yourself!

August 15, 2007 - 22:14 ET by niner-four-whiskeyYou know, this is one of those myths about the battery packs.
They are just NiMH batteries, which are readily recyclable. They're also warranted for 100,000 miles or 10 years. I'm not at all worried about it.
