Essay: The President Without a Country

"We're no longer a Christian nation." - President Barack Obama, June 2007

"America has been arrogant." - President Barack Obama

"After 9/11, America didn't always live up to her ideals."- President Barack Obama

"You might say that America is a Muslim nation."- President Barack Obama, Egypt 2009

Thinking about these and other statements made by the man who wears the title of president. I keep wondering what country he believes he's president of.

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

In one of my very favorite stories, Edward Everett Hale's "The Man without a Country," a young Army lieutenant named Philip Nolan stands condemned for treason during the Revolutionary War, having come under the influence of Aaron Burr. When the judge asks him if he wishes to say anything before sentence is passed, young Nolan defiantly exclaims, "Damn the United States ! I wish I might never hear of the United States again!"

The stunned silence in the courtroom is palpable, pulsing. After a long pause, the judge soberly says to the angry lieutenant: "You have just pronounced your own sentence. You will never hear of the United States again.. I sentence you to spend the rest of your life at sea, on one or another of this country's naval vessels - under strict orders that no one will ever speak to you again about the country you have just cursed."

And so it was. Philip Nolan was taken away and spent the next 40 years at sea, never hearing anything but an occasional slip of the tongue about America. The last few pages of the story, recounting Nolan's dying hours in his small stateroom - now turned into a shrine to the country he fore swore - never fail to bring me to tears.  And I find my own love for this dream, this miracle called America , refreshed and renewed. I know how blessed and unique we are.

But reading and hearing the audacious, shocking statements of the man who was recently elected our president - a young black man living the impossible dream of millions of young Americans, past and present, black and white - I want to ask him, "Just what country do you think you're president of?"

You surely can't be referring to the United States of America , can you? America is emphatically a Christian nation, and has been from its inception! Seventy percent of her citizens identify themselves as Christian. The Declaration of Independence and our Constitution were framed, written and ratified by Christians. It's because this was, and is, a nation built on and guided by Judeo-Christian biblical principles that you, sir, have had the inestimable privilege of being elected her president.

You studied law at Harvard, didn't you, sir? You taught constitutional law in Chicago ? Did you not ever read the statement of John Jay, the first Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and an author of the landmark "Federalist Papers": "Providence has given to our people the choice of their rulers - and it is the duty, as well as the privilege and interest of our Christian nation - to select and prefer Christians for their rulers"?

In your studies, you surely must have read the decision of the Supreme Court in 1892: "Our lives and our institutions must necessarily be based upon and embody the teachings of the Redeemer of mankind. It is impossible that it should be otherwise; and in this sense and to this extent our civilization and our institutions are emphatically Christian."

Did your professors have you skip over all the high-court decisions right up till the mid 1900's that echoed and reinforced these views and intentions? Did you pick up the history of American jurisprudence only in 1947, when for the first time a phrase coined by Thomas Jefferson about a "wall of separation between church and state" was used to deny some specific religious expression - contrary to Jefferson' s intent with that statement?

Or, wait a minute . were your ideas about America 's Christianity formed during the 20 years you were a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ under your pastor, Jeremiah Wright? Is that where you got the idea that " America is no longer a Christian nation"? Is this where you, even as you came to call yourself a Christian, formed the belief that " America has been arrogant"?

Even if that's the understandable explanation of your damning of your country and accusing the whole nation (not just a few military officials trying their best to keep more Americans from being murdered by jihadists) of "not always living up to her ideals," how did you come up with the ridiculous, alarming notion that we might be "considered a Muslim nation"?

Is it because there are some 2 million or more Muslims living here, trying to be good Americans? Out of a current population of over 300 million, 70 percent of whom are Christians? Does that make us, by any rational definition, a "Muslim nation"?

Why are we not, then, a "Chinese nation"? A "Korean nation"? Even a "Vietnamese nation"? There are even more of these distinct groups in America than Muslims. And if the distinction you're trying to make is a religious one, why is America not "a Jewish nation"? There's actually a case to be made for the latter, because our Constitution - and the success of our Revolution and founding - owe a deep debt to our Jewish brothers.

Have you stopped to think what an actual Muslim America would be like? Have you ever really spent much time in Iran? Even in Egypt? You, having been instructed in Islam as a kid at a Muslim school in Indonesia and saying you still love the call to evening prayers, can surely picture our nation founded on the Quran, not the Judeo-Christian Bible, and living under Shariah law. Can't you? You do recall Muhammad's directives [Surah 9:5,73] to "break the cross" and "kill the infidel"?

It seems increasingly and painfully obvious that you are more influenced by your upbringing and questionable education than most suspected. If you consider yourself the president of a people who are "no longer Christian," who have "failed to live up to our ideals," who "have been arrogant," and might even be "considered Muslim" - you are president of a country most Americans don't recognize.

Could it be you are a president without a country?

Wow!  I think Obama is

Wow!  I think Obama is still trying to build his country, on top of the one we currently have.  He wants to change the very foundational Constitutional principles of who and what we are to reflect his ideal of a weak and pitiful nation that rules its denizens like the Emperors of old.  The only real problem with his endeavor is simply that, well, we really don't want his nation to replace ours.  Somewhere along the lines of this power struggle, something has to break.  Obama's nation is rife with disease, like a cancer seeking to invade a healthy organism.  The MSM is the needle in which he hopes to inject this nation with his unhealthy cells.  However, and much to Obama's chagrin, the Americans of this nation who cling to "guns and religion" are far from being exhausted and defeated.  Quite the contrary, we are establishing ourselves as voices that will not be silenced any longer.  Obama is a president without a country.  And I myself will do everything I can within the Lord's guidance to make sure his country never draws its first breath, never steals its first liberty, and never claims this nation as its defeated enemy.

Thank you!

To Pat and Eric, thank you for putting my cluttered thoughts into words for me.  Rightfully and beautifully done!

You are very welcome!

You are very welcome!  (gosh, I'm blushing here...)

Then he intends to track us electronically

This is an OUTRAGE and down right scary!  Also like the story of him controlling the internet during an "emergency."   WHEN will the BS media wake up and protect their FREEDOMS too?  It will be to late! Seems like it may take screen shots of your web page comments involving words about Obama.  Then can be analyzed by his hood "enforcers."

Wow slow today on website.

Wow slow today on website.  Deleted double post that showed up!

America was founded by

America was founded by deists, without any commitment to any particular religion. Generally, a deist believes that a god or gods exist, but does not believe that those god(s) intervene in our lives.

I have to admit that I am more of a conservative-leaning libertarian deist, but I have to point out your glaringly silly statement;

"He wants to change the very foundational Constitutional principles of who and what we are to reflect his ideal of a weak and pitiful nation that rules its denizens like the Emperors of old."

-The essay insists our foundational Constitutional principles are christian (this is very inaccurate).

-You say obama wants to move us away from those (christian) Constitutional principles and rule us as the denizens were ruled by the Emperors of old.

-You must recall that the power the Emperors of old had been legitimized by the ruling christian institutions of the day (catholic, protestant, etc).

-Therefore, it’s hard to imagine an intelligent person could not see; if you govern a country with christian principles, you end up a denizen ruled by an Emperor who claims their right to rule from god and is backed by a parochial power.

-You say obama wants to

-You say obama wants to move us away from those (christian)
Constitutional principles and rule us as the denizens were ruled by the
Emperors of old.

Actually, I didn't say that.  You put the word "christian" in parenthesis.  You also said I stated a "glaringly silly statement" and then called into question my intelligence.  I have no time for you.

Sorry.  I don't want to play.  You're right, I'm wrong, believe as you wish, so on and so on.

-Eric

Was it an unreasonable leap

Was it an unreasonable leap to assume the constitutional principles you were referring to were the ones which the essay was insisting are christian?Your initial post, to me, appeared to have been authored by a person who was deeply offended at the suggestion that America is not a christian nation. Well, America is not a christian nation, nor is it a muslim nation, or a jewish one, nor it is a nation based on any one of thousands of gods that Americans believe in.America was and should be a nation where the people are free to participate in any faith which compels them or none at all.I regret calling your statement silly – my initial intention had been to call attention to what I saw as a contradiction in your statement. All the best-Warp

Warp:  First off, allow me

Warp:  First off, allow me to commend you on this response to me.  While it is painfully obvious you and I will disagree on this issue, you showed character by writing me back at all.  I can respect that.  However, (oh yes, there is a however), without going into the Constitution itself and pointing out each time it mentions Lord/God/Creator, may I propose this simple scenario for you to think upon:  America is 233 years old.  This is not really a long time to be a nation when you put America against the older nations of the world.  Yet in this short 233 years, we have become the greatest, most influential, most domineering, and the most free nation ever.  (sure, we've made mistakes, but what nation hasn't?)  How is this possible?  I consider the Founding fathers, all men of character and solid morals, pissed as all get out over King George and living under a Monarchy.  They get together.  They formulate a rebellion.  In the end, they win, securing for themselves and for their next generations a nation free from British rule and free in its own Sovereignty.  So we have our nation.  We have the future ahead of us and there is nothing holding us back.  It is here that I believe that the Lord smiled upon our nation.  With the writing of the Constitution, by men better than you and me, the Lord took up the nation of America and began to bless her abundantly.  No other nation has our history.  No other nation has our freedoms and our liberties.  No other nation has our diversity and our economy.  Something has separated us from the rest of the world, and I do honestly believe it is the Lord's favor.  Perhaps I am viewing it all through simplistic eyes, but I sleep very well at night knowing, for whatever reason, that the God of Israel, the God of Creation, the God of Salvation is blessing our nation as only He can.  This makes me a person who considers America to be exceptional and awesome.  Yes.  I believe in Divine Providence.  I believe these Founding Fathers of ours did not come together by happenstance or sheer luck.  I believe their moves and ideas were shaped by the Lord my God, bringing us to this very moment in human history, where I am speaking thusly to you.  If the Lord hadn't taken up America in His hands, we would not be what we are today.  Warp, this is strictly my opinion, but please consider the immensity of America and her unique history.  Then ask yourself if America would have been possible strictly based on the efforts of human achievement and human effort.  I do not believe this.  I believe the Lord has something planned for us as a nation.  No, Warp, I cannot fathom what it may be.  The initial question was about what nation is Obama the president of.  I answered he has no nation, as his nation needs to be born upon the death of this nation we have already.  And that isn't going to happen as long as breath remains in this flesh sack.  Thank you for reading this, Warp.  Please know I do not consider you an enemy or any such thing.  I look forward to reading your response if you indeed post one.  Take care, as well!

-Eric

I almost forgot:  Here is a quote I wanted to share with you.

"Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people.  It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other."  John Adams

What does that say to you, Warp?  I know what it says to me.

You mean rule like a Muslim nation, lol.

The founders certainly maintained "christian" values by majority as their core and that is the basis of our constitutional foundation and rights.  What other religious thinking was here at the time?  What was used to teach reading in schools as the main text?  The Bible.  Christians don't want to rule like you bring up the corrupt past.  That is why we did not "establish" a National Church.  But the nation was certainly Christian by all means.  Nothing else but that.

Those are the Muslim nations that CURRENTLY RULE like that!  No womens "rights," no "freedoms,"  no other religions for the most part.  So which group is growing fastest?  Muslims by far & wide!  Once they gain a majority in each country (EU) they can slowly switch over laws to enforce the Muslim "way."  Here in the USA we have the Hispanic population which is balancing out Muslim growth since most Hispanic people are not Muslim.

M-B

The founders were, indeed, principled…

But, what evidence do you have that they were "christian?"Nobody really wants to "rule" as the christians did in the corrupt past, but look what happens when you give an average man a little power. Do you really believe the christians will not try to legislate thier belief structure given the chance? Of course they will...they have already been trying to. Give a NeoCon president a majority of NeoCons in the house and senate, and see how quickly everything christians find offensive is banned.Muslim nations are a sad state; they are now nearly as corrupt and dangerous as the Catholic Church was in the past - at least in the areas where they have control. Do you think that the muslim religion could survive if a truly free market existed for religion?

I try to respect religion, but organized religion is nearly as much a cult as the democratic party.

America was founded by

America was founded by deists, without any commitment to any particular religion. Generally, a deist believes that a god or gods exist, but does not believe that those god(s) intervene in our lives.

So is it your contention that our founding fathers were pagans, who believed in "a god or gods"???  Ridiculous!  I would bet money that the vast majority (if not ALL) of those whose signatures are on our founding documents were believers in the God of Abraham.

-You must recall that the power the Emperors of old had been legitimized by the ruling christian institutions of the day (catholic, protestant, etc).

You're right in that there were emperors of old who used religion, not Christianity, to wield power. That doesn't make it wrong to base a nation's foundation on true Christian principles, which is exactly what our founding fathers did.

Read a bit of this...

http://www.earlyamerica.com/review/summer97/secular.html

It's all readily verifiable.

I am not of the opinion that Americans should cease being christians or religious. My wife is a devout catholic and I respect and love her without end, so I obviously can’t be of the opinion that catholic or christian people are somehow bad. My strongest desire is that our government returns to the principles of the founders of this great nation; many of the religious right would agree with this sentiment. But it is absolutely imperative, that we look at what those principles were, and understand them honestly if we are to have any expectation of success.

This nation was not founded by christians any more or less than it was founded by atheists or deists – the United States of America was founded by free people. I don’t know what it is that christians are seeking beyond universal subjugation by a celestial dictatorship; the will of which not possible to verify on earth, thus inevitably leading to corruption and the rule of men who have a recognized power and status over those who do not. Is that not exactly why we broke away from England in the first place?

We need to have a country where we are all free to believe as we are moved to believe, rather than one where we are forced to believe as the majority does.

We need to have a country

We need to have a country where we are all free to believe as we are moved to believe, rather than one where we are forced to believe as the majority does.

Hey sport, last time I looked we do live in a country where we can believe as we are moved.  You are free to think that God is a "celestial dictator", aren't you?  You fool.

I think the founders vision was one that

Wanted a nation that was religion neutral, inclusive. This from the Declaration of Independence comes to mind:  ..."the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them"...

They did not want some sort of thoecracy, but wanted to abide by the principles of an undefined Nature's God. In most cases, this meant Judea-Christian values and laws.

That's how I read it, and I think that's why they wrote it as such.

You know what they say about opinions.

Warp said: "America was

Warp said: "America was founded by deists, without any commitment to any particular religion."

Except that if had actually read the Constitution in the socialist public school you might have noticed this pesky phrase in THE CONSTITUTION in the signatory paragraph: "Done in convention by the unanimous consent of the states present the seventeenth day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty seven and of the independence of the United States of America the twelfth."

Gee, what "Lord" was born on Earth almost 18 centuries before the US Constitution was signed?

The founders clearly did not want another "Church of England" or another "Holy Roman Empire". And many were Deist.  But not all- and it is clear which direction they leaned - toward the Judeo-Christian God.

Somebody here with more patience than myself please explain to Mr. Warp the principle involved when God warned Israel what would happen when they got a King- but they insisted on one anyway. ( 1 Samuel 8: 6-22. ) Also, please explain to him the principle involved when the midwives refused Pharoah orders to kill the baby boys in Egypt. ("...they feared God, and did not as the king of Egypt commanded..."Exodus 1: 17) Please explain to him the principle when king David was punished by God for adultery and murder- even though he was King.   Please explain Jesus' principle of "...greatest among you shall be your servant."  (Matthew 23:11)

Yes powers are ordained of God.   But they must also answer for their abuse of it......There is no such thing as absolute powers given to rulers from God....

Wouldn't it just be correct

To say Obama sees the new America ruled by Fascism? With himself as the appointed dictator?

It's obvious by the fact that the czars are an exo-skeleton government around our elected officials and there is where the real power resides. Meanwhile the cabinet secretaries are to keep us quite and placated until they have built their civilian army as large, powerful and well funded as our military. Who that army will declare as the enemy is not yet disclosed.

And how many Democrats, blinded by the ginned up hate for Bush, see what is happening right before their very eyes? Hide in plain sight.

WOW!!

Not much can be added to this article.  Excellent.  Now, if we can only get our friends on the left to objectively read this and realize what their messiah is really all about.  What?  A guy can dream, can't he?

Having the form of godliness but denying the power!

Pat's words are spot-on! Zondervan Publishing, a so-called "Christian" publishing company, released "The Faith of Barack Obama" last fall just in time for the election.

Makes me wonder what was in it for them?

I read one page of it and just about lost my lunch! In it, BHO talks about how he can be a born-again believer and still be a member of a political party that espouses abortion and gay rights. Now his messiahship lauds how Islam is such a "great religion". Boone quoting Osama Bama as saying "You might say that America is a Muslim nation" is more than troubling - it borders on the uprooting of the principles of what our nation was founded. With the help of the MSM and other left-wing, socialist groups like ACORN, SEIU, MoveOn.org, and the like, BHO is committed to the complete ruination of America and establishing himself as dictator-in-residence.

November 2010 can't come too soon - I want my country back!

"Who am us, anyway?" - Firesign Theatre

a dark side emerges

If anyone remembers, according to the Koran/Quran/whatever, you don't leave Islam.  Knowing his background, does anyone really think he's not a Muslim despite what he says?  Look how he bowed to the Saudi king, man, that was serious stuff!  Then look at his treatment to the British allies, inconsiderate at best.(not counting what he did with the bust of Churchill)

Look at how some schools are teaching Islam to kids, even some Christian evangelicals are even participating in Ramadan.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot, didn't he go to the Middle East without his wife?  I believe that's a Muslim tradition as well, the wife doesn't travel with the husband or something like that?

You're right, November 2010 isn't soon enough, hell, November 2009 isn't soon enough.(if that were an election month)

-Jon

I am beginning to wonder if this is worse than even I thought

I do now know what is up with this guy anymore. Now, we have the school kids listening, singing, following. Children of the Corny. This Van Jones person loves Chavez and thinks we are all out to subjugate black and brown people and make them work in the fields. Some other czar thinks a child is not human until it knows what "tomorrow" means. People are now being turned on as lazy, self-obsessed bums for collecting the SS they paid into for 40 years. I am not making this up. I am good but not this good. I freely admit it.

Doesn't it seem surreal at

Doesn't it seem surreal at times?  It's like, you hear things and read things and you think, 'No, this isn't true, this can't be true, no president would be like this', and then the next day there is even more freaky stuff being reported from this guy, and from his own MSM.  Surreal.

James Madison...the "Father of the Constitution"

James Madison: Called the father of the Constitution, Madison had no conventional sense of Christianity. In 1785, Madison wrote in his Memorial and Remonstrance against Religious Assessments:  "During almost fifteen centuries has the legal establishment of Christianity been on trial. What have been its fruits? More or less in all places, pride and indolence in the Clergy, ignorance and servility in the laity; in both, superstition, bigotry and persecution."  "What influence, in fact, have ecclesiastical establishments had on society? In some instances they have been seen to erect a spiritual tyranny on the ruins of the civil authority; on many instances they have been seen upholding the thrones of political tyranny; in no instance have they been the guardians of the liberties of the people. Rulers who wish to subvert the public liberty may have found an established clergy convenient auxiliaries. A just government, instituted to secure and perpetuate it, needs them not."

Twilight Zone President

He may be president of a co-existant country (barackistan? as one poster noted) in a parallel universe to that of the United States of America, but he isn't my president...he is "the man in the Whitehouse".

Why?

  • not sure he has qualified to be president, the birth certificate thing
  • doesn't represent me or the majority of this country, just got alot of ignorant and non-legal and non-existant people to vote for him
  • certainly my country is a Christain one, so if he's not president of a Christain nation, he's not president of mine

v

...guess that makes Joe my president, and where is he these days?

What can I say. Obama's

What can I say. Obama's statements say who he really is. To bad the mainstream media isn't listening

It's not hard to understand

It's not hard to understand Obama if you have read his writings. He says he doesn't believe in majority rule, but, rather, minority rule. The 'oppressed' minority (crack whores, criminals, etc.) will be able to make better decisions for the majority in Obama's warped thinking.

Think again

America was not founded by deists it was founded by christians.  By buying into the lie that a religious founding did not exist you are buying into the exact same revisionist lie that says our rights are not given by God which in turn means they can be subject to government.  Also your time line is quite off, the emperor legitimized the church not the other way around.  Keep in mind however that you are also confusing two separate issues.  A political organism such as the catholic church is significantly separate from christian foundations.  The idea that the founders were not christian is nothing more than manufactured propaganda.  Feel free to assume there is some agenda in my views all you want, its not true but that dosent matter.  The views of the founders are well documented if you care to look for the truth and not out of context snippets that support what you want to hear.

This is the same president

This is the same president who's going to use our morality to justify his healthcare proposal.  Well he can't have it both ways, if we aren't a Christian nation then I don't have to be moral and pay for other peoples health care.

Obama Is Still An Indoesian Muslim Citizen

Where's the long form vault copy of his birth certificate?

millions spent hiding this

I wonder if people realize that this thing about how he said instead of the operation, take a pain pill, and other things that don't improve the quality of life.  Even Keith Ellison, a congressman from Minnesota who's sworn in office on the Koran rather than the Bible(unconstitutional in my opinion and needs to be thrown out on his arse), said similar things, and this thing about not having a high value of life (abortions not withstanding) isn't just something practiced by liberals, it's also a muslim way of life or rather death.

-Jon

I like it

Question with boldness

But it's more like Obama thinks he is in Kenya.

His whole campaign was nothing more than a shuck and jive act, say anything to get elected, feeding on the Democrat's ginned up hatred for Bush. The goal was once elected, Obama would do anything HE wanted to US. Why do you think none of his campaign promises have been fulfilled?

One of the flaws with our Constitution is there is no way to compensate for the lack of character of the President.  The founders knew this, wrote about the dangers of a tyrannical President, and decided that basically the 'free press' would protect America. If that failed, there was always the Second Amendment, they talked about that, the final bulwark to tyranny.

So now we have the situation that the 'free press' has basically cast their lot with the dictator wanna be. Two of the three stops have been comprised, only one left, and time is drawing short.

Remember Obama talking about a 'civilian Army' as powerful and strong as our military, as well funded as our military? So who is this civilian army to oppose, who is their enemy to protect us from?

“Oppressors can tyrannize only when they achieve a standing army, an enslaved press, and a disarmed populace.” — James Madison

One thing is for sure, you will never associate the word CHARACTER with Obama.

What Would You Expect From A WorldNutDaily Columnist?

Jesus, I can't believe I'm even realted to that nut/thief Pat Boone. He kept stealing songs from Little Richard to the point that Little had to write the song "Long Tall Sally" just so he could have a song that was too fast for Pat to sing. And Pat still tried to steal it. Anybody who is a fan of Pat Boone is a fan of old dinosaurs like Blondie, Mary Worth and "Dick and Jane" childrens' books. Even Elvis was newer than Pat Boone. And to top it off, he writes for WorldNutDaily!

Look at the Honoluluh newspapers that announced his birth. The Hawaiin state government can't give the original document since it is secure in some vault that they can't access, but he is an American citizen. And whatever impact that left-wing morons like Jeremiah Wright or Bill Ayres had on President Obama is as irrelevant as whatever impact President Bush got from allegations that his grandfather was allegedly a Nazi sympathizer. It's all horsedung that is being spread by the far left and the far right to confuse you about the facts, and the thief/hack/nut Pat Boone is one of them. Which reminds me of a funny song about his ancestor Daniel Boone I heard on Animaniacs:

"[singing] Daniel Boone was a big dang bird. Yes, a really big bird. But he didn't know that his disguise was pretty absurd.;

"Daniel Boone was a great big guy. Yes, a big sick guy. He lost his lunch all over the trees and sky.;

"Daniel Boone was a great big jerk. Yes, a stupid jerk. He had another dumb plan that more than likely wouldn't work."

The American people can be fooled some of the time, but not...

all of the time.  If the election season started today, Obama would not even be nominated, let alone win.  We have a little over three years to watch this man's continuing and non-stopping downward spiral.  It is not going to be pretty.  Jim Webster

But of course none of this

But of course none of this has anything to do with the possibility that he's not a natural-born citizen.

That's just silly.

One of the 34% who thinks George W. Bush was a great President. One of the 86% who wants to bring back the stock and pillory.

Obama is Deceit

I don't trust anyone that trusts Obama.

This is why he will never be president. He may hold the office, but not for long.
