Ouch! Putin Answer About Terrorism Stuns Press Conference to Silence

Ouch!

This video of Russian ex-President (now Prime Minister) Vladimir Putin's response to a question about terrorism at a G-8 summit press conference was posted in early 2008. However, his answer is worth noting now in light of Barack Obama's rather dispassionate first response to the Nigerian Christmas Day bomb plot terrorist which came off as sounding like a tepid legalistic statement from a deputy district attorney. Here is a transcipt of the question from a French journalist and the blunt response from Putin which stunned the press conference to silence:

FRENCH JOURNALIST: ...Don't you think that by trying to eradicate terrorism in Chechnya you are going to eradicate the civilian population of Chechnya?

VLADIMIR PUTIN: If you want to become an Islamic fundamentalist and be circumcised, come to Moscow. We are multiconfessional. We have very good specialists. I can recommend one for the operation. He'll make sure nothing grows back.

Double ouch! And Putin wasn't joking as evidenced by his lack of even a hint of a smile and the deadly look of steel in his eyes. While we are busy Mirandizing terrorists such as the Nigerian underwear bomber, Putin has a whole different approach to terrorism. Call him the anti-Obama.

Putin means Terrorism must be stopped at all cost. It cannot be negotiated with.

Even the guy next to Putin was like 'Did he just say what I think he said?'

I don't agree with much of Putin's imperial attitude and policies but after watching this video, it is frightening to think how much he must dominate Obama in private negotiations. And what must Putin think about Americans reading Miranda rights to apprehended terrorists?

Oh, and has anybody out there spotted Lorena Bobbitt in Moscow lately?

Nothing in Putin's policies indicate he is a communist. True communism would divide authority into small bits like its name implies. There is no authority given to communes and committee in either Putin's government or in fact, the old Soviet Union. The 'communist' fascination that the Western leftists had with the Soviet Union was a romantic fantasy that fulfilled their need for a communal utopia. The real Soviet Union was a brutal dictatorship led by a ruling clique. The old Russian leadership had more in common with Julius Ceasar than any governance by the proletariat.

But unlike us in the West, Putin lives in a very stark world of reality. He can see what the future holds for all of us if forceful steps are not taken, worldwide sharia law. Europe is already committing suicide by encouraging immigration of Muslim populations and introducing laws to let Muslims have a seperate culture within the host country. The greatest threat to the West is not from random violence by radical Islamists. It's actually from the exploitation of the Wests greatest weakness: one person, one vote. It's only a matter of time that Europe will become a Muslim continent.

If the self-lothing white liberals of the West are not stopped soon in their drive to erradicate Western culture we will all be faced with the question of do we allow ourselves to be surrounded and overwhelmed and sent back to a 5th century existence or do we give up our true democracy for an authoritarian rule by a Putin of our own?

My understanding about most European countries is that, when they allow immagration, it's under the stipulation that the immagrants or their children do not become citizens. No citizenship, no vote. I agree that Europe is on the slope to eventual Islamification of their culture, but it will probably be more revolutionary then just by through the ballot box.

I'm not really sure of all the nuances in European voting laws but even if a rising immigrant population is denied equal voting status that is a situation that cannot last. The radical version of Islam and Western democracy are incompatible. Put them in the same country and only one will ultimately survive. If Western democracies fall the whole world will look like Afghanistan under the control of the Taliban. When that happens only a ruthless leader like Putin will be able to fight off the barbarians. The countrysides will be controlled by thieves, murderers and war lords, all reminiscent of the Mad Max movies that portray the decline of civilization and descent into chaos.

We should remember that in order to save the union, Lincoln hit the 'pause' button on many aspects of the constitution. If the Western leaders continue to close their eyes to a very real and building threat a future President may be forced to do the same to save the country.

The point isn't that Putin (i.e., Russia) will be tough with terrorists. We know they will, and others know we can be, too, if we want to. (Why did Putin just say two days ago they need to develop weapons so the U.S. can't "do whatever it wants" in the world?) No, no. That's not the point of the story.

The point is: He made that politely disguised but unmistakable statement to an auditorium of listeners and then didn't give any indication he was being "arch" or "ironic" or clever. He meant it and he didn't care if the reporter cared. "We invite them to come to Moscow and get it cut off down to the nub, plain and simple. What are you looking at like that?"

Having him fail (and continue to fail) means we are probably going to be in the line of fire. Intellectually I want Obama to keep screwing up like this but I know the consequences will, sooner or later, lead to loss of innocent life and that is why I am conflicted but feel I speak true. His failures are probably going to hurt and personally I don't want me or mine to be hurt. But to get rid of this guy and his entourage will mean he and his administration has to fail and fail continuously and be seen as the ineffective, incompetent empty suit that he and they are. The American people, unfortunately, seem to have a limited attention span and now 9-11 is way way in the past to many and we have been very fortunate that these terrorists on many occasions in the skies or in NJ have not been successful. There was no national outrage to the Ft. Hood shootings and the terrorist aspect was poo pooed to oblivion. I can see the cynical view that no crisis should go to waste (politically speaking).

Bush and Putin were often photographed together with all smiles and even hugging each other. And this was a president who heavily promoted the missile shield. There was mutual respect there. A friend of my daughter in Chicago had the opportunity, in connection with her job with the American Library Association, to meet Obama and have her picture taken with him prior to his run for POTUS. C'mon folks, Putin is a murdering thug and bully. Regarding Chechnya, the Soviet Union and now Russia incarcerate, torture, and murder men, women, and children without thought or reason. Putin handles protests in the Russian homeland with near identical means. That is not how America has or is handling the War on Terror. While I agree with all of you that the handling of our enemies is wrong, (ie as criminals) Putin is one of the last humans on the planet that we should be emulating. They should be handled by the military, they have no rights, when they prove themselves of little or no use, they should be dispatched using the swiftest method available, and so long as they prove useful they should never be released until the war is over.

We used to have a guy we could look up to instead of Putin. Ignore Those Pesky Foreigners

December 30, 2009: The recent failed airliner bombing attempt, by a Nigerian Islamic terrorist, caused the United States to increase screening efforts at American airports. This screening is done by a force of over 40,000 TSA (Transportation Security Administration) personnel. The TSA also has the authority to fine or arrest those who violate the new airport security rules. Each year, over a thousand people are arrested by TSA, and over 4,000 are fined. This is happening during screening for about ten million flights a year. As far as terror attacks are concerned, the effort seems to have worked. The only terrorist attacks on American airliners since September 11, 2001 were on two flights coming in from overseas airports. The TSA effort has not only scared off terrorist attempts, but it has made air travel more risky for criminals, who are the people most often caught with contraband, or arrested.

But the TSA is not making it impossible for terrorists to get aboard commercial flights. Journalists have frequently demonstrated the vulnerability of TSA procedures, showing how observant and careful terrorists could find these weaknesses (most of which still exist) and exploit them. Details are still available on the Internet.

In effect, one of the most terrifying aftereffects of the war on terror has been the many new security procedures imposed on air travelers. Most of them have no impact on airline security. Early on, it was realized that not being able to carry a pocket knife or knitting needles has not stopped terrorists from coming up with new ways to get weapons aboard. What happened on Flight 93 (the one that crashed, when passengers realized what was happening and attacked the hijackers), has, as stronger cockpit doors were installed on all airliners. Other measures, that address real vulnerabilities, have not been implemented. This is largely because real security improvements are not as visible, and thus are less valuable, in a PR sense, to politicians who pass these laws. For example, a glaring weakness in airports is background checks and security measures applied to airport personnel. It's widely known that drug gangs regularly exploit this to get airport workers to help them smuggle drugs on airplanes. Some security experts (the ones who are ignored a lot), keep pointing out that bombs could just as easily be placed on aircraft using the same methods. Another weakness is baggage control. This includes simple things like making sure passengers always fly when their baggage does, and explosive screening for all luggage (checked as well as carry-on.) The biggest flaw is the reluctance to adopt the profiling techniques pioneered by Israel (and since Russia, and several other countries). As long as politics and PR play such a large role in counter-terrorism, expect measures that play better than they perform will be favored.

Many Americans now travel less by air, or not at all, because of the TSA effort. Drugs are still being smuggled via airliners, and if there were as many terrorists as there were people moving illegal drugs, bombs would be getting aboard, and going off. This highlights another aspect of Islamic terrorism. These groups do not attract the best and the brightest. There are not as many of them active as the public realizes. Most Islamic terrorism takes place in Islamic countries, despite local security efforts every bit as draconian as what the TSA practices.

The TSA insists that the lack of attacks is attributable to its growing list of prohibitions and inspection procedures. The TSA even has representatives overseas, where they threaten foreign airlines with sanctions (not being able to fly into the United States), if there is not more cooperation, and conformity with the TSA way of doing things. This causes headaches for the U.S. State Department, as foreign nations are no more comfortable with the TSA officials than are American air travelers. Foreign nations point out that their less oppressive security procedures are every bit as effective as the TSA. But in the United States, the TSA has the power, and it uses it regardless of what those pesky foreigners say. - strategypage

They responded by apprehending family members of the persons they suspected of taking the Russians. Islamic Fanatics target School Children

So far the death toll
stands at 338 hostages (156 are children) and 10 special forces
soldiers. This number is expected to rise though with 58 people still
in critical condition. Our hearts and our prayers are with them. May
the God of Glory heal their broken bodies and may He pour out His wrath
upon the perpetrators of this horrific event.

According to the Moscow Times,
between Sept. 1-3 about 30 heavily armed terrorists seized a school in
Beslan, near Chechnya, and held about 1,100 young school children,
teachers, and parents hostage. When a bomb inside the school was
apparently accidentally detonated, the hostages attempted to flee. The
terrorists then set off more bombs and opened fire on the fleeing
children (shooting some of them in the back) and adults.

What is carefully missing from many of the reports is that the Chechnyans are Sunni Muslims.
The newspapers are trying to make it appear as if this attack was
designed and implemented by a group of rebels as part of an internal
fight for independence from Russia. However, with reports
out that there were 10 Arab men with connections to Al-Qaida, one must
see this event, then through the eyes of our War on Terror.

agreed, Putin does get it-- as far as dealing with the "jihad" brand of terrorism-- or any sort of activity that upsets their definition of law and order in Russia-- they don't bother with technicalities such as "Miranda" rights, or any form of civil/constitutional guarantees-- if they determine that someone is up to no good over there, I'm certain they are dealt with a lot more swiftly there, to send a message a lot more effectively than it does here in the "Mirandized" USA etc-- but I have another theory about why you don't generally see "jihad" activity or shenanigans over there, goes something like this: the international "jihad brotherhood", of whatever wing (Al Qaeda etc), might just be talking amongst themselves, saying things like: "...let's all agree to not mess with Russia for now-- they might just help get the "special weapon" produced in one of our spiritual allies such as Iran-- to use it for our ultimate goal, the obliteration of the nation of Israel...."
