Huffington Post Suffers ClimateGate Panic Attack

  • Bookmark and Share

Your humble correspondent has been checking the Huffington Post Green section every day since the ClimateGate scandal exploded. After all, that Green section is pretty much predicated on the theory that the earth is warming dangerously and that Man is the cause of it. At first, the Green section had a few relatively minor stories attempting to dispute the revelations of the ClimateGate scandal. However, today the Huffington Post went into a complete panic mode on this topic. Bigtime.

The Green section now features a huge story at the top of the page by Katherine Goldstein which features a slideshow supposedly exposing "The 7 Biggest Lies About the Supposed 'Global Warming Hoax'." However, even many of their own readers aren't buying the lame excuses presented as you will see here.

So let us now join the Huffington Post Green section as irritation is expressed over the term "ClimateGate" as they wish it to be replaced by "SwiftHack":

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

A few weeks ago, hackers broke into the emails of one of the Climate Research Unit of The University of East Anglia, and climate skeptics have been having a field day making mountains out of molehills about what the emails contain. The verdict on global warming is in -- it's caused by humans and it is happening and nothing in the emails remotely challenges that. However, with the internet abuzz about what has been labeled "ClimateGate," we thought we should set the record straight about the rumors, lies and insinuations about what the emails actually contain -- and what they "prove" about climate change. "ClimateGate" itself is a misnomer, the nickname should be "SwiftHack" for the way people with political agendas have "swiftboated" the global warming reality.

Translation: My mind is made up so don't confuse me with the facts.

Check out our slideshow and pick what you think the most dangerous lie that is being spread by skeptics about the emails.

Oh goody! A multi-media slideshow! Let us now look at each of the seven "refutations" about the ClimateGate revelations and how many of the Huffington Post's own readers aren't buying the lame excuses presented:

CLAIM: Scientists have manipulated data.

Skeptics have been pointing to an email from scientist Phil Jones where he said he used a "trick" with his data. As climate expert Bob Ward writes, "Scientists say 'trick' not just to mean deception. They mean it as a clever way of doing something -- a short cut can be a trick." RealClimate also explained that "the 'trick' is just to plot the instrumental records along with reconstruction so that the context of the recent warming is clear. Scientists often use the term 'trick' to refer to ... 'a good way to deal with a problem', rather than something that is 'secret', and so there is nothing problematic in this at all."

"Hide the decline." And now for the HuffPo reader reaction:

I'm sorry but if I were sitting on a jury and the Prosecutor told us 'since we have the police report and our investigation report we destroyed the evidence because it was no longer needed, I'd look out the window to see what color the sky was!

It's all unraveling and the left still tries to defend this scam of the century. Sorry folks, using terms like "swiftboating" won't work this time.

Katherine, you and your fellow travelers on are the wrong side of history...again. The email exposure came from a whistle blower. Lot of money to be made on this false science and you know it. Not to mention futhering the goals of your NWO buds. Sunlight is a trmendous disinfectant. I think I'll just enjoy the warmth for a while.

Fact: The University of East Anglia has admitted that they destroyed their raw data, and all that is available for their peers to fact check is the manipulated data they used to construct their report.

Fact: The programmers working on both the raw and manipulated data noted that the raw data itself was rubbish. In fact, programmers notes indicate that they could just make it up.

Fact: Several professional "scientists" did allegedly conspire to keep reports out of the peer review process and prevent them from being published, according to the emails - and to their peers.

Aiiieeee!!! Stop with the inconvenient facts! And now to the next "lie" of the slideshow:

CLAIM: Scientists had private doubts about whether the world really is heating up.

RUTH: Combing through over a decade of personal correspondence, which is then taken out of context can seem to prove just about anything. Skeptics have been pointing to one email from Kevin Trenberth, in which he said, "The fact is that we can't account for the lack of warming at the moment and it is a travesty that we can't." However, this is clear example of cherrypicking quotes. Trenberth was referring to that there was an "incomplete explanation" of the short-term variability of temperatures, but concludes that "global warming is unequivocally happening."

Ah! The overused "taken out of context" excuse. But will your HuffPo readers buy it? Let us see:

I am a working scientist, have maintained a well-funded lab group for 25 years, and have published over 100 papers in my career, and I have never heard a scientist (at least not in the life sciences) use the word "trick" when describing data analysis.

Okay, next "lie."

CLAIM: These scientists worked to suppress evidence and deleted emails.

TRUTH: Thousands of emails from over 13 years were stolen, and edited, and have been taken out of context for those with a political agenda.

...As climate czar Carol Brower says, "I'm sticking with the 2,500 scientists [of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.] These people have been studying this issue for a very long time and agree this problem is real."

She's sticking with her approved scientists and closed her mind to the many other scientists who disagree. And now to hear from the HuffPo readers again:

I love the Carol Browner quote of 2500 scientist, may she could discuss it with the 31,000 who are non-beleivers.

All this shows that a thorough investigation needs to be conducted and before anything is decided in Copenhagen. I think a panel of honest ,openminded and trustworthy scientists from either side of this debate could be found to do this. It is only fair considering the effect the Copenhagen treaty is going to have on our economy and taxes.

No! No! Carol Browner says "case closed" because she found 2500 scientists agree with her and never mind the rest. Next "lie" from the roundup:

CLAIM: Scientists have been working to remove skeptical peers from the climate discussion.

TRUTH: Organization politics, disagreement and strife are hardly foreign ideas in university, research and scientific communities. As the blog run by climate scientists Real Climate writes, "Since emails are normally intended to be private, people writing them are, shall we say, somewhat freer in expressing themselves than they would in a public statement." Again, this does not remotely prove any sort of cover-up, and the critiques of these papers were made and debated by scientists PUBLICLY, but perhaps less bluntly than they were stated in the emails.

Oh no peer suppression. Absolutely none at all. What's with Goldstein? She thinks she can get away with posting an absolutely false "truth?" And the one who can contradict this "truth" is none other than Phil Jones, formerly of the University of East Anglia who in an e-mail to Michael Mann stated:

The other paper by MM is just garbage - as you knew. De Freitas again. Pielke is also losing all credibility as well by replying to the mad Finn as well - frequently as I see it.I can't see either of these papers being in the next IPCC report. Kevin and I will keep
them out somehow - even if we have to redefine what the peer-review literature is!

And now for the fifth "lie":

CLAIM: These emails are the final nail in the coffin for the idea that humans cause global warming.

TRUTH: If the denier's wildest claims were true that are bantered around throughout the Internet, wouldn't nearly 15 years of emails ACTUALLY SHOW some of these insipid rumors to be true?

I just presented an email above ACTUALLY SHOWING the "rumor" about peer suppression to be true. There are many other such emails showing data manipulation ("hide the decline" and  suppression of contrary views. Problem is you just don't seem to either read them or recognize they exist. They do.

The sixth "lie":

CLAIM: This reignites the debate about if global warming is real.

TRUTH: There is strong consensus in scientific community that global warming is real and is caused by humans. The top scientists in the world have just released a new report on the realities of global warming. Kevin Grandia summarizes some of the key points about emissions, melting ice sheets, and rising sea levels. The emails don't change any of this reality.

What about the top scientists in the world who do NOT agree with this consensus? If global warming is real, why have temperatures been declining since 1998?

And now to the final lie, this one presented by your humble correspondent:

CLAIM: You stated in your story headline that there were 7 lies that were to be exposed.

TRUTH: There are only 6 "lies" presented in your piece. Count them: 1...2...3...4...5...6. NOT 7. You can't even correctly count to 7 and you expect us to buy your lame ClimateGate refutations?

So it seems the "refutations" in this Huffington Post Green section ClimateGate panic story just don't add up. They can't even count up to 7.

UPDATE: The Huffington Post is sitting on an unusually large number of comments as "Pending" for this story. Currently there are 479 published comments and 340 "Pending" comments which have yet to be published. My suspicious mind tells me there are many more "Pending" comments since controversial stories such as this usually gets comments numbering into the thousands at the Huffington Post. Here is the comment about this from one of the readers:

huffing

Is it called the huffington, because they huff tons of paint and glue?

They're on SOMETHING!!!

Amen. Ariana is Huffing Tons of Drugs

We have the e-mails and documents!

We have the rigged programs and most of the source code.

I have them right in front of me.

You can see where they've rigged the programs to shorten the months (manipulate with a MOD file) and smooth (drop low temps from the calculations)!

Yet they still continue, Goebbels-like, lying in the face of facts.

It’s impossible to take anything out of context!

The chain of evidence is clear.

"...global warming

"...global warming is...caused by humans and it is happening and nothing in the emails remotely challenges that..."

This is the accepted view.  Anyone who thinks the Left is going to say, "Oops.  I guess we were wrong.  We need to repeal everything that was ever based on this hoax" has alot to learn.

They can't admit it was a hoax because they are part of the hoax.  They will keep pounding their lies until their last breath.  It's not a big problem for them, they've been pushing lies and hoaxes forever.

"If liberals could be persuaded by facts, they wouldn't be liberals. " - Publius

The left already had the

The left already had the solution (socialism), they just needed a problem. Thats why they will never admit that its bunk and a fraud, becuase they NEED it to be real.

But that's even

an overstatement of AGW. Proponents of AGW hardly ever hold that humans are "causing" global warming, just that we are causing some, or aggrevating the condition. "Man-made gobal warming" is not the sentence that it would be if the hyphen were taken out, but means the part of GW that man "made".

If you can't get what is the actual consensus right, it's stupid to write about "consensus".

The "hole" truth

I am reminded  of a supposed article in a Russian newspaper about a race between an American Ford and a Russian car.  Witnesses saw the American car win the race handily.  The next day the paper reported "The Russian car came in second, The American came in next to last."

It's all in how you word it, as the libs well know.

I'm baffled (which isn't hard to do, I know)

My guess is that many of the AGW folks actually believe there is scientific basis behind the policy. Many have been taught since an early age that this hoax is settled science and aren't secretly subscribing to the NWO politics. But now that, at the very least, questions have arisen about the supposed "settled science", I wonder why some are steadfastly holding their ground. My question is, what's in it for them? What do they stand to gain, or lose in this debate?

If anyone here still believes in Global Warming, or Man-made Climate Change, and you don't have doubts, please tell me why? Because if you're hanging on because of ideology, than your basis for belief is not science, it's politics. And even so, it's self-depricating if you live in the developed world, or in some way use energy. Please help me understand.

my attempt

Here's my answer as best as I can guess to why they steadfastly hold ground.

The people who might be holding ground to the AGW may think they have a lot to lose if they change their belief.  For some, it's losing faith in what they believed in when as you say taught at an early age, but I don't think it's limited to age.  After all, AGW is practically a religion and was voiced as such in some cases.   Or losing faith in those who taught them that, how will they view future presenters of one kind of subject or another?

For others, there's a huge financial risk in AGW, the risk being that people are going to find out the truth and all the "green" projects out there will go belly-up.  It happened to Pelousy and Pickens in the wind farm for West Texas.  They have lost money in that venture.  A lot of these "green" projects are nothing more than scams, like putting out the wind farms for a measly amount of electricity, it's not worth it!(not to mention they make a lot of noise)  Those con-artists will keep telling you the lie that AGW in order to get their money's worth.

Those are the two most likely reasons because to be honest, I can't think of any other reasons to make it work, but I don't think like these liberals do.

-Jon

it's not financial, mental failure is why GWs cant deny it

they don't have the intellectual or moral integrity, basically mental fortitude to admit they were conned because they based their decision making process on feelings instead of facts, and the facts they did have were faked. they were raised under the progressive dogma that you aren't ever held accountible for your actions, you get to pass on by just for just trying, and everyone on the losing team gets a trophy too, because their fragile lil feelings might get hurt. progressives who are denying the fact that they've bought into the lie are incapable of dealing with reality because now for some of them for the first time are staring failure in the face, because progressive teachings have never faced reality and never allowed their younglings to experience failure, aaaaaawww because it hurts too much. and if their socialist leaders had to lie to them and use gubment ejukashon to weaken their mental immunities all these decades(i consider progressivism like a mental form of AIDS, use protection please) then they will have to face the fact that they have been lied to and buying into the lie all these years, no no, denial for them is a much better and respectable option, then will follow a lot of crying and utter nonsense to start babbling for them. ie see huff post. they can't even count right from 6 or 7 bullet points in their own articles. but don't tell them they failed, it's destroy their fragile lil ego.

soon you are going to be witnessing a mass effect of when a pound of jello hits an immovable object, so just be ready for the meltdown of many friends, relatives, and neighbors. i personally, can't wait and i'm eager to sit back and enjoy the show. i think it's going to be fun to watch these idiots mentally fly apart like a watemelon under gallagers sledg-o-matic.

one things for certain, the mental health trade will be a BOOMIN'. more progressive authority figures with capitol letters behind their names to tell them it's not their fault.

Worse

Because if you're hanging on because of ideology, then your basis for belief is not science, it's politics.

It's worse than that...especially if you're a liberal coming to terms with it all...it's an ideology based on FAITH...OMG!!!  It's  religion that's pulling the train wreck!!! This will snap more liberals out of their Obama-induced comas faster that any thing any one else could do.

I agree...

..... It IS a religion to them, they just don't know it.

You mean ... Nigel: "You see, most blokes will be playing at 10. You’re on 10, all the way up, all the way up...Where can you go from there? Nowhere. What we do, is if we need that extra push over the cliff...Eleven. One louder." DiBergi: "Why don’t you just make 10 louder and make 10 be the top number, and make that a little louder?" Nigel (after taking a moment to let this sink in): "These go to 11."

The left is really, really

The left is really, really counting on Copenhagan to bail them out, here. Obama's remarks are going to be critical. Wonder what he's going to say? My guess is he will straddle the fence. But if I had to choose one side or the other, my bet is he's going to be supportive of AGW.

Which will, IMO, be a real fatal mistake for his political career. In spite of the MSM blockade, information and data are making it to shore as we speak, re-enforcing the real scientific data -- that there is no proof of AGW. Obama's going to put himself on the wrong side of history, here.

And oh, BTW -- read this hilarious comparison of Obama with Spock -- of Obama the Scientist! We'll see; we'll see.

The verdict on global

The verdict on global warming is in -- it's caused by humans and it is happening and nothing in the emails remotely challenges that.

The debate that never was is over folks. Our stand on global warming has been proven on the manipulated data, rigged peer review and tricks. Furthermore, we have managed to indoctrinate a whole generation on the false premise that man is destroying the earth, and technology is bad. So good luck trying to change their minds now.

challenge for lefties here

Please produce one piece of evidence that the word "trick" was common jargon in the scientific community often used to identify a harmless shortcut prior to ClimateGate. Just to give you a head start, we'll even let you link to evidence that is uncovered by HuffPo.

Oh, and for the record:

swiftboat: v providing an accurate quote from a liberal's own mouth and asking them to explain it.

Perhaps Not Evidence, But...

Notice: The following in no way is meant to indicate that the 'trick' as used in the e-mails was meant as a legitimate shortcut.

The following method (pseudocode) has been considered a 'trick' as long as I have been programming computers - 40+ years now.

flipflop = not(flipflop)

'Tricks' such as this were, and still are, common to decrease programming and program execution time, yet were denigrated as 'tricks' because they created problems for people (read non-programmers) trying to follow the program code.

RealClimate blog

RealClimate blog inadvertantly proves the cover-up with this quote:

"Since emails are normally intended to be private, people writing them are, shall we say, somewhat freer in expressing themselves than they would in a public statement."

Yes, of course people are freer when they think they are speaking in private, because they have no need to spin the facts.

What should we trust?  A public statement that spins the facts, or a private statement where one is being honest?

I bet the HuffingtonPost responds to the ACORN scandal by saying, "The ACORN employees thought they were in private.  They are freer to advocate for prostitution when they don't know they were being taped."

Not only that

but it's the reason that courts subpoena emails. And why emails exposed that Microsoft wanted to "piss" all over Java. Of course, I understand that "piss" was a special word in the IT field, or something....

I guess it just depends on what the definition of is is.

My Lord.

The verdict on global warming is in -- it's caused by humans and it is happening and nothing in the emails remotely challenges that.

She can't even state the scientific position of her side. AGW is not about humans "causing" Global Warming, but humans contributing to Global Warming. Anthropogenic Global Warming is the human portion of Global Warming.

arguing with libbies

Hufpo says ... "TRUTH: There is strong consensus in scientific community that global warming is real and is caused by humans. The top scientists in the world have just released a new report on the realities of global warming. Kevin Grandia summarizes some of the key points about emissions, melting ice sheets, and rising sea levels. The emails don't change any of this reality. "

How do you even take a statement like this seriously much less refute it?  Why is it that libs never feel the need to provide anything remotely close to proof of anything.

That they claim there is a "strong consensus" or that "the top scientists" agree is ludicrous.  Who determined these scientists are "top"?  Did they have to pass a "top" test?  How many scientists are admitted into the "top club"?  When are the induction ceremonies?

For that matter, what is their definition of "consensus".  I work in an office of 30 people and we've not arrived at a consensus on even what coffee mix to use or where's the best place to get bagels in like the past 15 years.   Do they expect me to believe that every scientist on earth agrees what the temperature is going to be 50 years from now?

I guess they didn't see this announcement ...

It was announced today that there is unwaivering agreement among the toppest of the toppiest top scientists that climate change is a result of completely natural forces.  In fact, they just completed years of super-secret analysis of a bajillion pages of top secret data and compiled a report which irrefutably and unquestionably shows a pattern of natural warming and cooling which only a completely uneducated person could not see.  This report has been locked away in an archive so as not to risk damage, but rest assured, it's clear and settled,  climate change is not caused by man ... and besides, some guys named Joe and Wilson also said AGW is a myth.

Cool, this is kinda fun.  No proof needed ... just say it and it's so.

HuffPo Get The Dirty Work

So this got dished off to HuffPo. Only the most outrageously indoctrinated people go there for information - and people like me, who look with morbid fascination at their blogs and threads. The MSM can't touch it, they're in a lose-lose position, and they're hoping it will just go away, like the old days. ClimateGate is their Waterloo.

Thank God

It's stuff like this that makes me thankful that after high school I was able to get out of the global warming cult. (bolded words for a reason)

"For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." -Ephesians 6:12

I don't know why the Huffrhoids have their thongs in a knot...

...because ClimateGate will change exactly nothing.

Okay, one day down the road, it may swing the bulk of public opinion against the idea of man-made climate change, but it isn't going to matter, as this farce has never been about the climate, the environment, or anything related to either.

It's all about controlling our lives right down to the minutest detail.

The far-left communists now running things in Washington are still going to pass a hideous bill of some description or other. Sure, they may alter the public perception by calling it something like The Energy Conservation Act of 2010, or some other harmless sounding title.

But,  at the end of the day, the government is going to ultimately gain control of your thermostat, energy prices will still be going way up, the pointy-headed inspectors will still be fanning out all over America to invade and inspect our domiciles, and if the government decides you are using more energy and water than they think you should be, you are still going to get either a big, fat surcharge in your energy bills, or cut-off, or both.

ClimateGate will have no appreciable effect on the takeover plans of the far-left.

-Dave

Our elected representatives have failed us.

We're moving down the road

Dave ... "Okay, one day down the road, it may swing the bulk of public opinion against the idea of man-made climate change"

We're already down that road.

Rasmussen from 11/13 ... "The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey shows that 47% of voters blame global warming on planetary trends, while 37% of voters take the opposite view and blame human activity. Just 5% point to some other reason. "

Anyone with a 10th grade education knows it's total crap from a scientific perspective, but it's feely-goody to have something to gather around.  A perverted "club" if you will.

We all know those 47% are unlikely to speak up against what's been shoveled down their throats for so long so as not to appear a "denier" (Rasmussen is an automated poll, so they're more likely to answer honestly).  The issue for us now is to convince them that it's ok to speak up and say the manbearpig has no clothes.

The more people who are willing to say it's a sham out loud and in public, the quicker the warmers jump off the cliff and rid us of their miserable existence.  Climategate will help people realize the sensible people like themselves outnumber the ones who promote AGW and  FAR outnumber those that actually believe in AGW.

JerseyJ,

But will those deaf-as-a-post congress critters be swayed?

I have my doubts after watching TARP and Porkulus blow right through.

Besides, the far left is in a position to put through pretty much anything they like, and they don't much care what We the People think about it, either.

-Dave

Our elected representatives have failed us.

maybe

Maybe or maybe not.  No telling what the congress cretins will do when cornered.  (OT, it always bugged me that our only recourse is threating to vote against them).   They will likely try to ignore the growing realization that AGW is crap, jump off the cliff with Ms. Boxer and then suffer the consequences in November.  The good news is that Crap&Tax is going to get pushed to an election year for 1/3 of the senate making passage at least somewhat less likely.

Even if it is passed I think it will quickly be abandoned assuming the growing tide of realists continues to swell and the warmers are squeezed into a smaller, more insignificant fringe element.  (Think four grease-balls in a zodiak chasing a japanese whaling boat)  It will just be too completely "out-there" to enforce a law when the common knowledge is that AGW is a faulty theory.

Obviously you can't go wrong underestimating the common sense of congress though (take the CPSIA for example), but if public perception finally catches up to the obvious reality, the theory of AGW could finally die a much deserved death.

In my lifetime, I've been told we're all going to starve because there's too many people.  I've been told we're going to run out of oxygen because the rainforests were being clear-cut.  Been told we're going to freeze in a coming ice-age, drown in a coming tidal surge, fry by radiation through the ozone hole, be anihilated by an asteroid, wiped out by nuclear power plant accidents, run out of oil, die of cancer from DDT (or was that saccharine ... or maybe silicone?) ... you get the idea.  Instilling panic or, at the very least, worry, is big business.  It usually blows away with only a small (but ever mounting) bit of your liberty stripped away in more and more regulation.  C'est la vie unless we do something about it by voting in those that take representation seriously.

Wasteful Obama - Trillions of Taxpayer dollars = BANKRUPTCY

Shall we go on...?

Swifthack?

The prefix Swift- as in Swiftboating or Swifthack means it is all true but we are in denial and won't admit it.

I'd go over and hammer

I'd go over and hammer HuffPo but I did that for a week and I swear to God, every point you make gets the same response:

 "I HATE PALIN!"

I gave up on those people. They're fucking nuts.

What's in a number?

Wasn't the 2,500 "scientists" also a false claim since only around 300 actually read through the IPCC report and the number who signed off on the report, after reading sections in their field were in the 60's even though some "modeling" couldn't be verified. Others simply asked that their names be removed since the data could not be verified (and now we know why). At least one actual participant filed a grievance with the court to get his removed from the IPCC report. The gist was that the 2,500 believed that the earth was experiencing a warming trend, but, the alarm bells were only clacking in the minds of theorists like James Hanson who isn't even a scientist and wild eyed Hollywood crackpots like Al Gore. If Bush was a thief ... then Gore must be the kingpin of the man-bear-pig crime syndicate. Just be thankful that we were graced with Bush for 8 years.

Data is data.

Data is what it is. You do not trick data.

In computerland, you trick* programs. You trick programs that have a bug and do not work properly. You kludge the program to make it act as though it was working properly until such a time as the program can be permanently fixed.

You never never never never trick data. You trick programs.

Data just is. This is another backtracking lie to cover the original lie.

Sincerely,

a Veteran of a 1000 psychic wars.

* trickf*** is the proper word.

The reality in science is:

The reality in science is: They trick with their data every day. They omit in their reports what doesn't sound good, they sharpen their diagrams, they skew if they see the need for. That is sad but is the reality in most branches of science (the good guys will at least disclose how they manipulated the data).

Source that.

I don't believe a known troll. Source it little "t".

Just noting that for

Just noting that for someone with such little interest in debating a topic as you are it is rather bold to accuse someone of being a troll, except of course you use the very same term for yourself.

About manipulation of pictures: This is quite interesting.

We are not here to debate you idiot.

You want to learn something. Google it. I am not your teacher. There is not enough hours in the day to educate an idiot like you.

I am simply here to counter your lies. Oh dear. I did not even click on your link.

Then don't challenge me to

Then don't challenge me to source something. Google it yourself.

Your link is to a for-pay

Your link is to a for-pay only NYT article about detecting falsifield photos.  This has zero to do with the topic at hand.

Non sequitur.

You lose.

The topic at hand was that

The topic at hand was that misconduct in science happens far more often than one thinks.

trog, Run some time lines...

No folks are busted all the time. In a timely matter...well maybe not

I mentioned this before:

Piltdown Man
The most infamous of all scientific
frauds was unearthed in 1912 in a Sussex gravel pit. With its huge
human-like braincase and ape-like jaw, the Piltdown Man "fossil" was
named Eoanthropus dawsoni after Charles Dawson, the solicitor and
amateur archaeologist who discovered it. For 40 years Piltdown Man was
heralded as the missing link between humans and their primate
ancestors
. But in 1953 scientists concluded it was a forgery.
Radiocarbon dating showed the human skull was just 600 years old, while
the jawbone was that of an orang-utan. The entire package of fossil
fragments found at Piltdown - which included a prehistoric cricket bat
- had been planted.

You will find this interesting..

Piltdown Turkey
The supposed fossil of
Archaeoraptor, which was to become known as the "Piltdown turkey", came
to light in 1999 when National Geographic magazine published an account
of its discovery. It seemed to show another missing link - this time
between birds and dinosaurs. Archaeoraptor appeared to be the remains
of a large feathered bird with the tail of a dinosaur. The fossil was
smuggled out of China and sold to a private collector in the US for
£51,000. Experts were suspicious and closer examination showed the
specimen to be a "composite" - two fossils stuck together with strong
glue.

Try this:

The discoverer pitches the claim directly to the media.

The discoverer says that a powerful establishment is trying to suppress his or her work.

The scientific effect involved is always at the very limit of detection.

Evidence for a discovery is anecdotal.

The discoverer says a belief is credible because it has endured for centuries.

The discoverer has worked in isolation.

The discoverer must propose new laws of nature to explain an observation.

So, trog, Making the jump from photo-shop, to deleted data???

Good one, NOT...

BTW... Hwang fabricated data.

Hope you get your money back...ROTFLMAO

Note: Kill your cookies, and you too can read NYT  <gag>

The e-mails confirm his statement.

A model is defined as a copy of the original. However, if one reads a newer dictionary the definition has been broadened to include consenscience. Unlike religion science is not a strongly held notion. In science, a notion calls for proof, not belief. The problem with climate modeling is that the input has not come close to the original. Some models omit the sun ... go figure. The FACT that the programs, the ones that have been shared, have shown different results when they are run in reverse. Or as mathematicians, physicists, and good teachers say, "show your work", "prove your answer." This should be enough to raise skepticism.

Anthony Watts has provided a great service to the scientific community in his attempt at calling for strict standards for recording and keeping accurate weather data which is detrimental to climate studies.

If you really need confirmation at a time when heretical thinking is considered a criminal act by the church of AGW here are Anthony's links: http://wattsupwiththat.com/ & http://www.surfacestations.org/

But, please take your time at these sites before marching in a political goose step. Better yet, turn off your computer before your carbon credits expire ... Al Gore needs them to jet about the globe.

My mind is made up so don't confuse me with the facts

B/C if the real facts come out, I could lose my job, career, funding, perks, credibility, prestige.

That's OK, though.  Maybe some of these academiacs would benefit from having a real job where work is actually done.  If the factories dont close down from being loaded with environmental regulations.
