Sometimes movies can be quite educational. In the case of the docu-drama, The Age of Stupid, we learned quite a lot but not about global warming which the producers intended. Instead we got quite an education at the movie's premiere which gave us a front row seat into stupid liberal hypocrisy. Despite the fact that this film attacked the idea of flying in airplanes because the producers believe it is harmful for the environment, guess how most of the promoters and producers of this film arrived at the Manhattan premiere? The answer is wonderfully provided in this video featuring Phelim McAleer who also posted his commentary at Big Hollywood:
Inspired by James O’Keefe and Hannah Giles who have shone an uncomfortable light on Acorn by asking obvious questions and by simply letting people answer I decided to cover the New York premiere of “The Age of Stupid” – a documentary that claims the human race will be extinct by 2055 because of Climate Change.
Story Continues Below Ad ↓Much of the “Age Of Stupid” is spent attacking those in the developing world who want our lives and lifestyles. The documentary is particularly critical of those in countries such as India who want to fly more for business or pleasure.
The documentary is quite clear that flying in aeroplanes is disastrous for the planet. “Apart from setting fire to a forest flying is the single worst thing an individual can do to cause climate change,” we are told.
So after applying for and being given press accreditation by their publicists I decided to find out whether the film makers and their celebrity supporters have stopped or even reduced their flying hours.
Uh-oh! Inconvenient questions alert.
Or is it only the people of the developing world who must fly less while environmentalists continue with their luxuries because their campaigning is so important it has to continue.
I had been told that Franny Armstrong “The Age of Stupid’s” director, had been careful whilst making the film but has been on a massive flying binge promoting the documentary. Then there were the rest of the celebrity supporters such as Kofi Annan, the head of the UN, Mary Robinson, the former Irish President, actresses Gillian Anderson and Heather Graham and Moby who is apparently a famous DJ.
Are they making the sacrifices they demand be enforced on the people of the developing world?
Unfortunately there seems to be one thing environmentalists dislike more than flying and that is hard questions about their own flying habits.
A look at the very uncomfortable film supporters on the video certainly validates that observation. ...And now the diligent censorship squad arrives on the scene:
So it turns out that this docu-drama has provided us with quite a learning experience but not what the filmmakers intended. It gave us the opportunity to see liberal hypocrisy in action thanks to their stupid reaction to being asked pertinent questions about the "Stupid" movie. After a few questions which revealed that none of those at the premiere had the slightest intention of living up to the standards they demand of others the film makers decided they didn’t want to be accountable. Along with their security guards they manhandled me and and forced me of the press deck despite having given me accreditation to be there.
I didn’t realise press accreditation now comes with provisos that you are not allowed to ask awkward questions of environmental activists and their celebrity supporters.
They then used their security team to block my camera.

Isn't the movie industry

September 24, 2009 - 17:43 ET by ReaverNot just “do as I say not as I do” but “I will not be questioned on my obvious hypocrisy”. Sad and pathetic. Gillian Anderson makes the standard lear jet liberal response “Sometimes people have to fly in order to take a stand on these issues.” Yea never heard of teleconferencing I suppose.

September 24, 2009 - 18:40 ET by ReaverWatching this video again I think the most striking thing is the director, Franny Armstrong. When McAleer asks her if she flew there she has no answer and simply walks away. You would think that the director would have given this question some thought given how they demonize air travel in the movie and had some canned response. These people are so arrogant they don’t even think that they will be challenged.

September 24, 2009 - 20:34 ET by Ted ClarkePhelim McAleer: How did you get to New York?
Franny Armstrong (Director): [Nervous laugh] Well, we added up the good (?) carbon emissions of our entire film. We added up every flight, every taxi, every car, every computer...everything. It came to 96 tons, and that is equal...equivalent to 4 Americans for one year..."
This is great! She counts her carbon emissions. And why does she bother with such nonsense? To save the planet? No. She does it to earn "greenie points" as an eco-friendly, "globally conscious" defender of all that is "good". She's like an obese woman who counts calories as a way of deluding herself into believing that she is actually "health conscious".
And notice how she brings Americans into it. Why would she do that? Is it perhaps a dodge, so she can channel guilt and condemnation away from herself and towards the ones whom she blames for all the ills of the world?...."Sure, we may have injected a lot of CO2 into the atmosphere. But we're angels compared to those bloody, SUV-driving Americans!"

September 25, 2009 - 07:31 ET by c5thenWhen faced with inconvenient questions their reaction is to supress the freedom of those asking the questions. Imagine in NY City that a journailist would have his freedom of speech and freedom of the press trampled on because his questions are not comfortable for some.
This is a glimpse of the world where these would be dictators and tyrants want to lead us.
