Obama 2004: Bush Rushed Legislation Through Congress Without Allowing Time to Read Or Debate

(UPDATE: This story has been discussed by Rush Limbaugh.)

Hypocrisy alert!

A heretofore "unknown" 2004 interview with Barack Obama by leftwing radio host Randi Rhodes has just emerged. And basically, as you shall hear, Obama is saying do as I say, not as I do. In this case he was referring to quickly forcing legislation through congress. As you can hear in this  interview, uncovered by Naked Emporer News,  the hypocrisy seems so massive that it is destined to go viral on the Web. It features Randi Rhodes back during her Air America days interviewing then senator-elect Barack Obama on November 22, 2004.  And despite the fact that Randi is currently pretty well hidden from public view, you can be sure she will soon be talked about again because of her inadvertent exposure of incredible hypocrisy on the part of Obama. And what was the hypocrisy? His complaint that the Bush administration was rushing legislation through congress without giving the legislators time to read the bills or allowing for much debate.

To get the full flavor of the Obama hypocrisy, be sure to listen to the YouTube clip which also includes a video of MSNBC's Chuck Todd discussing why Rahm Emanuel felt the need to Rahm, I mean ram, legislation through congress. Here is the transcript which picks up at the 55 second mark:

BARACK OBAMA: ...When you rush these budgets that are a foot high and nobody has any idea what's in them and nobody has read them.

RANDI RHODES: 14 pounds it was!

BARACK OBAMA:  Yeah. And it gets rushed through without any clear deliberation or debate then these kinds of things happen.  And I think that this is in some ways what happened to the Patriot Act. I mean you remember that there was no real debate about that. It was so quick after 9/11 that it was introduced that people felt very intimidated by the administration.

The YouTube clip then segues to comments made last March by Chuck Todd of MSNBC describing Rahm Emanuel's rationale for rushing legislation through congress:

CHUCK TODD: And a few things that I feel like that I've picked up from these guys. Number one is that they are very aware. Rahm Emanuel is Chief of staff...had experience in the Clinton White House. And he is trying to learn every lesson from those days of Clinton and apply it to Obama. So number one is, don't deal with just one big issue. One of the reasons why, for instance, they thought health care went down is you had one issue sitting out there when Hillary Clinton introduced it. We all focused on it in the media. And the opposition got to organize and stop it. And you can kill anything in this town if you set an idea out here long enough and give the opposition time to organize and stop something. And I don't care which side of the aisle you're on. You can kill anything in Washington doing that. And I think they're attacking it this way: saying we're going to push 3 or 4 different things. Because they believe the opposition won't have time to unite and kill all of it.

So kudos to Randi Rhodes for exposing the massive hypocrisy of one Barack Obama although she wasn't aware of it at the time. And why is it that it is once a blog, and not the MSM, that has dug up this very revealing interview?

Another

unintended consequence?  Too bad, and I do  hope this goes viral.  If it upset Obie then, it should upset him now.  But then, different rules apply to him.  I was surprised that Chuck Todd was as honest as he was.

So, Mr. President, I would guess, from your statement, that you're down with everyone on the Hill reading all of your party's health care plan?  And, if only Algore had listened and let you bring ACORN along to Florida, things would certainly have turned out different, right?

That's our Barry....he's

That's our Barry....he's nothing if not  hypocritical...and arrogant.

People have to understand: that was then, this is now.  We couldn't trust Bush, but now

Everything's Fine

I mean you remember that there was no real debate about that [Patriot Act] It
was so quick after 9/11 that it was introduced that people felt very
intimidated by the administration.

You mean kind of like people are being intimidated now into thinking that if we don't do this right away costs will skyrocket and everyone will lose their health care?

Chuck Todd was right about Emanuel.  Throw it all out there.  And lump it all together, as if it's all part of the stimulus package, and if it doesn't get done, the economy will never recover.

I've been saying here for weeks....what do  "health care" and "green energy" have to do with jumpstarting the economy?? And yet, every time he opened his mouth, the President was lumping those two things in as part of the "stimulus plan."

I hope it DOES go viral...

I hope this gets plastered all over the media, TV, print and radio and is brought up over and over again.

I hope every senator, representative and citizen, who Obama tries to railroad and intimidate with his 'this is what the American people voted for' BS - will throw this right in his hypocritical, america-hating, racist/communist face.

Poor ol' Barry - so sad and so concerned that the eeeeeevil Bush was pushing through bad laws - ramming them through before they could properly be read and debated.  Now he's caught red-handed doing the very thing he said was 'wrong' from the moment he took office.

'We don't have time to wait to pass the stimulus package.'

'We don't have time to wait for me to take over the banks.'

'We dont' have time to wait for me to take over the auto industry.'

'There's no time to wait to read the cap-and-tax bill.'

'We don't have time to wait for me to take over the medical industry.'

All a crisis - all a red alert emergency.  All laws and bills that we 'just don't have time' to wait on.  We'll all die if we wait a single day to pause and read them.  Kids will starve, the elderly will keel over and expire, the economy will collapse, global warming will kill everybody if anyone dares to stop and actually READ Obama's crazy, stupid laws.

I hope the media fashions this little gem into a cudgel and uses it to whallop Obama upside the head at every press conference, town hall meeting and prime time address...

Obama - Biden.. Patriot Act??

Obama: ... And I think that this is in some ways what happened to the Patriot Act.

My goodness - I just love it when they do this. First of all, Sen. Joe Biden - that would be Obama's current Vice President - was the co-author of the original Patriot Act, which was written following the OK Federal building bombing.

Well, let Biden explain it:

"I drafted a terrorism bill after the Oklahoma City bombing. And the bill John Ashcroft sent up was my bill."

So the question to Obama, is, "just what is the definition of 'my bill' ?"

(;~/ gary

Lucky for us this has come to the surface

unfortunately, the cowards in the media will only call it a distraction and has NOTHING to do with what is going on today - remember, we need to reform healthcare, so much in fact, that we don't even have to read what's in the bill! Ram it through, make it law, and whatch innovation disappear, doctores retire before their time, people die waiting on line, and we'll look to china as world power replacement - thanks hippo Barry!

There is no sense in being stupid, if you can't prove it! - my dad V

The next Obama news conference

Obama: I'm here to talk about [fill in the blank]. But let me say, first, that I inherited this mess from the previous administration. But you are lucky that I took office when I did. The previous administration would have caused 14 pounds of unreadable legislation to wind its way through our legislative process. My Czars and I have cut that down to only 11.5 pounds, at a cost of only 6.5 trillion dollars.

I'm going to use the savings to expand the nation's police force by 100,001 police officers -- starting in Cambridge, MA.

This is good, but what's the response when the democrats say the republican's are hypocritical too?  Not sure of the situation back then, but Bush was apparently pushing legislation hard and quick and republicans seemed OK with it then.

Really? Did Bush every

Really? Did Bush every advocate not reading the bills? Did any Republican stand up in front of an audience and ask "why read the bills anyway?". Did Bush ever push any multi-trillion take-over-the-country bills? Exactly what are you equating here?

Here's another one

Stack this new one up against the example William McGurn cited back in February from The Audacity of Hope, where Obama complains:

"Genuine bipartisanship, though, assumes an honest process of
give-and-take, and that the quality of the compromise is measured by
how well it serves some agreed-upon goal, whether better schools or
lower deficits. This in turn assumes that the majority will be
constrained--by an exacting press corps and ultimately an informed
electorate--to negotiate in good faith. If these conditions do not
hold--if nobody outside Washington is really paying attention to the
substance of the bill, if the true costs of the tax cut are buried in
phony accounting and understated by a trillion dollars or so--the
majority party can begin every negotiation by asking for 100 percent of
what it wants, go on to concede 10 percent, and then accuse any member
of the minority party who fails to support this 'compromise' of being
'obstructionist.' For the minority party in such circumstances,
'bipartisanship' comes to mean getting chronically steamrolled,
although individual senators may enjoy certain political rewards by
consistently going along with the majority and hence gaining a
reputation for being 'moderate' or 'centrist.'" [p. 131 of paperback ed.]

Eliding the words "of the tax cut," as Mr. McGurn does in his article, makes the quote sound like a 2009 G.O.P. lament. Interesting how "getting chronically steamrolled" isn't such a bad thing when it is Democrats doing the steamrolling, isn't it?

I don't think this is the

I don't think this is the kind of Transparency Der One wants, more and more people are starting to see through him.

I'm glad we have the internet to help this stuff spread. Let's hope this does go viral. Can't depend on the GOP to research stuff like this - they are too busy explaining why they need to vote for Sotomayor.

As the

Messiahs empty suit is stripped off, the public is seeing what was covered up by the MSM (except for NB, FOX, Rush and a few others).  The MSM are now being seen as untrustworthy, derelict and liars from their complete abdication of fullfilling their basic responsiblities concerning the One.

The things that bothered many about his associations, religious beliefs, racial ideology, friends and history have all come home to roost.   What is really alarming is the party supporters who sold their souls, while selling out their country to get this crackpot elected, they now want us to trust them with major changes to Health care, energy, unions and almost anything else is beyond laughable.

Since taking over control of Congress end of 2006 the Dems and in six months with the Messiah they broke the bank, racism is on the front burner, all the spending/borrowing has sunk us further into a Recession/Depression, Marxist Fed power is being pushed throughout our banks, manufacturing, major industries, (whats left of them).  Have I left any other failures out?   Now a decrepted Health Reform Bill and Cap & Tax and Federalized Unionism bills are being jammed in our faces with threats of 2nd Amendment changes.  Add in Sotomayor, a light weight socialist AA SCOTUS nominee, is icing on the cake.

Enough already, comparing Sotero to Jimmy C. isn't going far enough, the Messiah is trying to destroy America just like all his friends, family and teachers wanted him to do.
