"The Truth" is stranger than fiction.
This is not a spoof picture from The Onion or any other satirical website. The image you see to the right (larger version below the fold) is a painting by artist Michael D'Antuono called "The Truth" that will be officially unveiled at Union Square in New York City on April 29 to mark President Barack Obama's hundreth day in office. Here are the details from the official press release:
Can You Handle 'The Truth'?
NEW YORK, April 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Michael D'Antuono may raise more questions than answers when he unveils his highly controversial new painting, "The Truth" on the South Plaza of NYC's Union Square on the 100th day of Barack Obama's presidency. The artist's politically-, religiously- and socially-charged statement on our nation's current political climate and deep partisan divide has been privately raising eyebrows (and voices) since its creation.
Story Continues Below Ad ↓The 30" x 54" acrylic painting on canvas depicts President Obama appearing much like Jesus Christ on the Cross; atop his head, a crown of thorns. Behind him, the dark veil being lifted (or lowered) on the Presidential Seal. But is he revealing or concealing and is he being crucified or glorified?
D'Antuono insists that this piece is a mirror; reflecting the personal opinions and emotions of the viewer; that "The Truth" like beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. D'Antuono expects that individual interpretations will vary as widely as they do in the political arena. The work will be seen by one viewer at a time behind a voting booth-inspired public installation.
Until now, Mr. D'Antuono has chosen to paint purely non-political subject matter, opting instead for iconic celebrity portraits and hard-luck romantic narratives. However, now the artist feels the need to make a statement. "Aided by the media, politics has taken a nasty turn in the last decade and I firmly believe that this is one of the underlying causes of our nation's current problems," says D'Antuono.
"The Truth" will be on exhibit on Wednesday, April 29, 2009 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on the South Plaza of Union Square Park at 14th Street in New York City.

One question. If elected officials are present, wouldn't that have the effect of mixing religion and politics? The artist quite clearly portrays Obama as a latter day Christ like figure considering the outstretched arms and the crown of thorns. Obama worship, complete with halo images, has been noted before here on NewsBusters but it was nothing compared to current expressions in awe of The One as we approach his hundreth day in office on Wednesday.
Matching the theme of "The Truth" painting is Joe Klein singing 100 day mark praises (while excoriating the "satanic" George W. Bush) of his beloved Barack about his recent Georgetown University speech in his current Time Magazine column:
The combination of candor and vision and the patient explanation of complex issues was Obama at his best -- and more than any other moment of his first 100 days in office, it summed up the purpose of his presidency: a radical change of course not just from his predecessor, not just from the 30-year Reagan era but also from the quick-fix, sugar-rush, attention-deficit society of the postmodern age.
...The most important thing we now know about Barack Obama, after nearly 100 days in office, is that he means to confront that way of life directly and profoundly, to exchange sand for rock if he can. Whether you agree with him or not -- whether you think he is too ambitious or just plain wrong -- his is as serious and challenging a presidency as we have had in quite some time . . .
Perhaps Obama's most dramatic departure from the recent past is his public presence: cool where George W. Bush seemed hot, fluent where Bush seemed tongue-tied, palliative rather than hortative. Bush would never admit a mistake, but Obama said the words plainly -- 'I made a mistake' -- when his appointment of Tom Daschle as health-care czar tanked, one of the few significant setbacks during his time in office.
Perhaps Joe Klein or another Obama worshiper, Chris Matthews, should audition to sing I Don't Know Why Why I Love Him to the tune of I Don't Know How To Love Him from Jesus Christ Superstar to serenade "The Truth" painting when it is unveiled at Union Square on Wednesday. It was written by my DUmmie FUnnies "co-conspirator," pastor and parodist, Charles Henrickson. Here are the lyrics so you can start your song practice immediately:
I don't know why I love him,
My Barack, my Obama;
I've been charmed, yes really charmed,
By his trim physique, so slim and sleek--
I'm awed by his mystique.I don't know why he's running,
I don't see any substance;
No real plan, flash in the pan,
And I've heard such empty words before
That when I close my eyes
He's just a bore.But I like his face,
And I like his voice;
Makes my heartbeat race!
Makes me feel all moist!
I never thought I'd come to this:
Obama is my choice.Don't you think it's rather shallow
I should vote for this fellow?
I'm the one who's always been
So pure, so pissed, so feminist;
I don't need men, oh no--
He scares me so.But I like his face,
And I like his voice;
Makes my heartbeat race!
Makes me feel all moist!
I never thought I'd come to this:
Obama is my choice.Yet, like in a romance novel,
I'm in love with a male model;
I've got to look! He signed my book!
My heart runs wild! I'll bear his child!
I want the world to know:
He's my "Big O"!
Obama, go!
I love you so!
Remember, Joe and Chris, fervor counts as much as actual singing ability. See you at the unveiling of "The Truth." And for the rest of you in the audience, do try to stifle your laughter during this holy ceremony at Union Square.
UPDATE: The scheduled Wednesday unveiling of the Obama/Christ painting has been cancelled. Here is the press release :
NEW YORK, April 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Painter Michael D'Antuono has cancelled the planned public unveiling of his latest work "The Truth" at NYC's Union Square Park on President Obama's 100th day in office due to overwhelming public outrage. The artist's decision was based in part on thousands of emails and phone calls; online blogs and other public commentary received in the first 48 hours following its release.
The painting which was first made public on Friday depicts President Obama appearing much like Jesus Christ on the Cross; atop his head, a crown of thorns. Behind him, the dark veil being lifted (or lowered) on the Presidential Seal. The photo was the most emailed picture on the web.
The artist insists that the work was intended purely as a political piece. "The religious reference was used metaphorically and not to insult anyone's religious beliefs. If that is the effect that my art has had on anyone, I am truly sorry," says D'Antuono.
Over the next several weeks, the artist hopes to make public much of the content received that helped shape his decision. He continues to welcome people's questions, comments and feedback at thetruth@dantuonoarts.com.

By the way, all this worship of a political figure is perfectly predicted in the book of Revelation. Next will come his tyranic rule and the absolute oppression of any opposition. Then will come the "mark" that all must have in order to be part of the economy. He will rule for 42 months:
All of Chapter 13 of Revelation is VERY interesting in light of current events. Highly suggested reading. Don't take the imagery literally, but as the best that a 1st century fisherman could do when writting down his visions of far-future events that he could never have imagined.
Also keep in the back of your mind the interesting knowledge that the Mayan calandar ends in December 2012 and that Nostradamus predicted massive cataclysms and turmoil in the neighborhood of 2012.
P.S. 42 months from Obama's inauguration is July 2012.

As early as 1967, after Israeli troops occupied Jerusalem,
bringing Jews back for praying at the foundations of their ancient, Roman
destroyed Temple for the first time in 2000 years, Jerusalem was already
important enough to warrant several United Nations Resolutions to restrict
Jewish claims on Jerusalem, their ancient Capital.
The question now is: If what has been prophesied
about Jerusalem, have thusfar materialised, will the rest of the
predictions about the ever contentious City also come true?

Barak the enabler
April 26, 2009 - 15:00 ET by RevLawIt's creepy! Where is the constitutional mandate to shed cynicism? The Constitution was written by individuals who believed that government needed to be limited - they were deeply cynical.
Beyond that, who is B. Hussein to lecture us about moving out of our comfort zones? What has Barack ever done to move out of his uninformed, uninvolved life? Besides running for office that is.
And what divisions are we to put down? Perhaps our belief that we shouldn't let babies die alone in closets after botched abortions? It's a division, but one well worth fighting for. It's interesting that The One who is calling people to work is also The One expanding the welfare state.

He Obviously Knows
April 25, 2009 - 12:22 ET by rightwingidiotHe obviously knows how Obeyme thinks of himself. If you recall, Gaffemaster Joe Biden said recently that Obeyme was taking some time off preparing for Easter and he stated, "he thinks it's about him". Meaning that Obeyme thinks he's the reincarnation of Jesus or something.
This painting reflects that attitude.
Placing elected officials on such a pedestal as this painting portrays is massively dangerous. Even to think of Obeyme as somehow the second coming of Christ gets you a free ticket to the looney house.
It's obvious that Obeymania Derangement Syndrome is real. Like a perpetual fever that, if left unattended, will consume your brain until it's dead. But, of course, that's how Obeyme likes it. Brain dead and bowing to the alter of Obeyme.
Re Biden
April 25, 2009 - 12:37 ET by slickwillie2001I expect that as Biden comes to realize that he is in a nothing job, and will not be given anything significant to do, he will get more snarky with the Bamster. He also knows that constitutionally the Bamster can't order him what to do or fire him.
He Wasn't Chosen
April 25, 2009 - 13:38 ET by rightwingidiotBiden wasn't chosen for his smarts, his wit, or his experience. He was chosen so Obeyme would look good by any comparison.
He probably knows that already. But, he's had a fever for the Presidency and knows that VP may be as close as he's gonna get. He'll ride it out. Joey's ego is pretty big so the VP position gives him that na, na, na, na thing to throw around at his prior congressional mates.
Look at me, I'm the VP.
I suspect that he'll throw Obeyme under the bus from time to time just to let him know that he's not completely clueless. I think Obeyme regrets his choice already. I know he threw Joe under the bus in his first big TV press conference. I would expect a tit for tat to some degree between them. Joe doesn't like to be muzzled so he's gonna stick his foot in deeply and let something slip. It's not a matter of if but when and how often.
A match made in heaven.

my thoughts on Obama worship
April 25, 2009 - 15:40 ET by candance1) This has nothing to do with satire. I remember back before the election Obama bragged about being more famous than Paris Hilton, and lefties defended him by calling it self deprecation. Given the massive Greek columns in Denver, the prime time speeches on network TV, and the video leaked on YouTube where he was posing for female reporters, I have no reason to think this worship is not sincere.
2) If Obama was a Christian he would ask these people to stop it, satire or not. His ego truly is as big as Napoleon's.
3) Had an artist made a painting like this about Bush, no way it would have been unveiled in NYC. That righ there should tell you all you need to know.
Re Worship
April 25, 2009 - 16:14 ET by slickwillie2001The most telling evidence of the man's enormous vanity and narcissism has to be the cheesecake topless picture. No one gets that close to a President in an unguarded moment, so it follows that it was planned. A photographer was obviously chosen; otherwise there would have been an unruly crowd. He was told where he could stand, and the subject carefully prepared. The photographer was obviously trusted, so he wouldn't reveal the degree of setup. Perhaps it was the Bamster's personal photographer. The Secret Service was obviously involved as well, in supervision. The location was probably chosen in consultation with the photographer for the best light. He walked out with his chest and abs tensed up, which a guy can't do for that long, but long enough for the pictures. All carefully choreographed.
A Republican could not get away with this, there would have been howls of indignation from the media. On the other hand, a Republican would likely have accorded the office a little more dignity.

I think we'll know if the Republicans have a near sweep of the elections next year.
However, I think that there will be a strong running for independents/third parties and those usually hurt Republicans.
Also, if a lot of Republicans do win, it will be because folks have lost confidence in the Democrats-not because they have confidence in the Republicans. Steele better start stepping up to the plate and soon.

April 26, 2009 - 18:11 ET by UpNorthyou're wrong, RR GOP. The effect of 3rd party candidates, for the most part, whether they be from the left or right, is to put or keep dems in power. As to Michael Steele, he could do far worse than just stepping back and letting Liz Cheney handle the dems. I'd even watch MSNBC to watch her demolish Olberdork or Mr. Tingle.
I think we can plan on the Lame Stream Media to start beating the drums for the dems in September of this year, just to cover the Obamunist. They like to trot out the stat that the "president's party" usually loses seats in mid-term elections, but I think we'll see a different spin from them, starting this year.

April 26, 2009 - 18:37 ET by slickwillie2001Agree mostly. A third party Presidential candidate typically guarantees the election of the candidate on the other side of the aisle from the third party candidate. That's an admission that no third party candidate will be a pure independent. They tend to be breakaways from one of the two main parties.
If someone has the energy and organization to build a third party by fielding 300-400 candidates for House and Senate seats, I'm all for it, but that's a massive undertaking and may have the same result. Wouldn't it be easier to poach one of the existing main party structures by fielding those same candidates in primary races? In other words, let's not start a third pary, let's take back the one we have.
Leftists understand the symbolism
April 27, 2009 - 06:42 ET by Blogger Guy00001The symbolism here is obvious to all leftists, liberals, marxists and democrats: Obama replaces Jesus. Obama is the new Jesus. No more Jesus - we have Obama. Obama suffered for the sins of the racist USA, but he has saved us.
