I believe their fear of opposing thought is just that... fear, a real lack of confidence in their political positions.  It's why leftists fail at Talk Radio.  They can't explain logically what they think.  All Leftists everywhere have always sought to silence critics.  Leftism is always a restriction on individual freedom and one of the essentials to getting citizens to give up their freedom without open rebellion is to silence all opposing ways of thinking.

The prime example being the call by Senator Patrick Leahy and supported by fellow Senator Sheldon Whitehouse for a so-called "Truth Commission." Leahy is claiming that his goal is not to prosecute people.

Why not start at the top with this 'Truth Commission'? After all, if it is harmless, Obama and his cabinet will not wither before it. It's not like there aren't any unanswered questions about Obama (going back to his birth) and his campaign, and his cabinet.

Removing Freedom of Speech - now that's "change" for certain. The GOP is an enabler of liberal fascism and the GOP provides the myth that we have 2-party government when the reality is we have only one party and a half.   The GOP insists on playing by Marquis of Queensbury rules in a war where tehy lib-fascists will do anything - and they admit it.   America needs a libertarian/conservative alternative to liberal fascism, and as long as the GOP exists this will not occur. The GOP is run by the same elitist political class that runs the corporations, the media, and the Democrats. One has only to look at the record of George Bush, Nixon, Ford, and even Eisenhower to see how many fascist programs came under Republican watch.   Affirmative action, EPA, Border Amnesty, Endangered Species - the list goes on and on. If we are to restore the Constitution, personal liberty, the right of private property, the right to form contracts without federal government interference, we have to get rid of the GOP and find a party that will fight the liberal fascists with whatever it takes to destroy them.  You cannot defeat evil playing by the rules.

And why stop with mere prosecutions and public smearings of political enemies. They could censor 'hate speech' heard regularly on 'hate radio'.  They could broadcast an Al Gore/PMRC type audio warning before a particular 'hate radio' program begins. How about:
