Daily Kos Desperately Spinning Obama 'Redistribution of Wealth' Audio

The Kossacks at the Daily Kos are hitting the panic button over the Obama "redistribution of wealth" audio which has become the hottest political topic on the Web, including the Drudge Report. As NewsBusters Mark Finkelstein has noted, most of the MSM morning TV shows, with the exception of Fox & Friends and Morning Joe, are still continuing to bury this story which your humble correspondent posted earlier today. However, this burial by the MSM is giving little comfort to the denizens of the Daily Kos. Right now they are trying to desperately spin away this story with excuses that Obama talking about "redistribution of wealth" was taken out of context or that we must understand the nuances of what he actually meant. You can see the Daily Kos spin control on this erupting story on this thread so let us now join the Kossacks as they sweat buckets trying to explain away Obama's words that could cost him the election:

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

The problem, of course, is that Obama never says that it's "a tragedy that redistribution of wealth" was not pursued. Or rather, there are no Marxist or Socialist overtones that any reasonable person could read into this interview. This is the GOP's October Surprise, and we need to be prepared to combat it.

Obama said that he wasn't "optimistic about bringing about major redistributive change through the courts." Instead he wants to redistribute the wealth legislatively. I think that all reasonable people can read Marxist or Socialist overtones into "redistributive change."

Obama is not talking about "radical Marxism." He's simply talking about the possibility for a Legislative procedure that would mirror what the Warren court did for Civil Rights, and make that in accord economically, which the courts do not have the power to do. When we consider how disproportionately the different classes are taxed (the rich regularly pay fewer taxes, percentage wise, than the middle class and paying lower class because they have more loopholes available), then OF COURSE the legislature and organizers should look into "redistributive change."

You went into all sorts of spin control contortions only to end up back at the fact that Obama did indeed call for "redistributive change." Redistribution of wealth via legislature rather than by courts is what Obama clearly asked for in that interview.

That is not a radical proposition but rather the exact kind of change we need right now!

Redistribution of wealth isn't a radical idea for Kossacks but then neither is the nationalization of industry in Venezuela by Hugo Chavez.

I wasn't sure about commenting on this because it's such a ridiculous and vacuous charge, and I'm sure it'll become overplayed in a few days (here and elsewhere), but I do think it's important that we as Democrats are able to explain to people what Obama said without the boogeyman filter and reactionary, kneejerk politics of the GOP.

I truly cannot imagine the HOURS of boring shit these idiots have to wade through in order to come up with a teeny nugget that gets minimal play.

You wish. Right now Laura Ingraham is talking about this audio on her show. I'm sure Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity will follow suit. The MSM might try to ignore it for a time but it will get harder and harder to do so over the next few days. The elephant has left his giant "deposit" on the living room floor and it will become impossible for even the MSM to ignore the stench.

I think they've taken a few constitutional discussions out of context and pieced them together to sound bad. I'd invite someone to dig up the original broadcast from 2001 and find out the intro question as well as the panel discussion. Someone else was there, because Obama refers to a 3rd person along with the host as being able to come up with something.

Yeah, you do that. Try inviting Brian Williams to dig up the original broadcast even though you don't need to since we already have it. Oh, and the "3rd person" on the audio was Karen the Caller.

People can argue that these are his true feelings, but it's quite evident that he's just explaining the history of the Warren court. There's nothing there expressing his "viewpoint". This shouldn't get a lot of air time and if it does, I might eat my hat.

Break out the salt shaker.

There will be relentless bludgeoning of Obama as a socialist and Marxist for now until late on election day. What's the best way to counter it?

The MSM is trying to counter it by pretending that audio doesn't exist.

Listen to the WHOLE tape. It is a discussion about civil rights and the courts and really isn't that big of a deal.

Until Obama, without prompting, brought up "redistribution of wealth" and "economic justice."

Morning Joe just brought it up. It was obvious nobody there had any clue about the full context of the entire audio clip. It was appalling. No journalistic standard whatsoever.

They just didn't have your "superior" understanding of the nuances involved.

Not for nothing, but why

Not for nothing, but why can't the Kos Kowards just admit this is something they believe in?

They can then go take solace in the polls.

See? Event the folks at

See? Event the folks at Daily Kos believe that redistribution of wealth is a bad idea. (lol) Otherwise, they'd be embracing this video, no?

*****

"People only insist that a debate stop when they are afraid of what might be learned if it continues." - George Will  / Hero Squad's "retro" blog

Oh, they embrace it alright....

...they're only whining about it because it may hurt the Messiah if the truth gets out... which it obviously won't.

Oh, they believe it.

It's just that they also know that if most American's knew that's what Obama is really about, he'd have poll numbers roughly equal to Bush.

Poll Numbers

Don't worry; he will if elected. Congresses numbers aren't going anywhere and Obama, if elected will have a honeymoon and then be under 30%. Expect him to orchestrate a war with Pakistan (India?) to throw attention off his doomed presidency. After the honeymoon.

I love how the Kossacks

I love how the Kossacks term us being worried about Obama's lament that the Warren court didn't interpret the Constitution (you know the one whose purpose is to limit government) to say what the government should do FOR us, instead of how government should stay out of our lives is... BORING.

http://goldwatergirl...

Some places on the web are

Some places on the web are also saying that Obama basically is setting up the ground work for reparations , a topic which has been hanging around for years in the race pimp circles.

Not that there have not already been tons of cash selectively directed to people of color under the guise of all sorts of programs.

The real issue isn't

-- redistribution, it is the fact that the constraints of the US Constitution must be thrown out, done away with, removed, to accomplish the goal of redistribution.

Put the Constitution in the toilet, on the way out the door, and take a seat at the Obama socialist's gulag table.

Now you know what gun control is really all about, controlling people.

I said similar in the other

I said similar in the other thread:

There is a process, Sen. Obama for "shifting" what the Constitution delares.  It's called "amending."

If you think it should be amended to say that government should provide
"economic justice" (translation: "economic equality") then by all
means, start the amendment process!

Great minds

Think alike, or the truth is just steadily leaking out.

It is becoming quite obvious what is going on, from Ayers, Wright and all the rest. This capstone Obama tape just ties it all together.

The real scary part is what is going to happen if Obama loses. Maybe that is what Obama was doing over there in Kenya with Odinga, trying experiments. Figuring out what works and how to make it happen in America. The difference is America is armed.

What are you saying here?

When you said "The difference is America is armed." - Just what was it you're talking about?

"Democracy is worth dying for, because it's the most deeply honorable form of government ever devised by man." - Ronald Reagan

This is the GOP’s “October Surprise”?

So let me get this straight: The GOP’s “October Surprise” is Obama’s exposing what we already know; that he’s a Marxist?

I guess that makes sense.  The clueless weren’t supposed to find out about that until after the election.

Well you have to admit,

Well you have to admit, although he's hinted, he's never actually come out and said (other than his generic "spread the wealth around" which he can dissemble about by claiming he meant "opportunity.") on the campaign trail that he is in favor of redistribution of wealth

Of course, he's never going to say "I'm a Marxist".

Doing so lacks "nuance".  ("Nuance” is liberal code for saying something in such a way that your base understands it immediately, but anyone possibly offended by the concept will think it is something less offensive, or something entirely different altogether.  John Kerry was supposed to be the master of “Nuance”)

But one look at his tax and economic agenda makes his Marxist intentions undeniably clear.  His biggest tell before the “spread the wealth around” miscue was when he was forced to explain why capital gains taxes should be raised, even when it was acknowledged that such a tax hike would reduce revenues.  His response that it should be done in the name of “fairness” was undeniably Marxist.

That the media buries or denies Obama’s Marxist ideology is not a surprise.  The disappointment lies with the McCain campaign which is big government at heart and understands economics little better than Obama does.  Obama’s Marxist ideology should have been exploited from the moment he was nominated.  Unfortunately, at that time international politics was still the big issue, which was McCain’s single strength, and their near-singular focus.  Who knew that the media would finally get the recession they’ve been campaigning for the last two years?

I think finding the tape

Where Obama actually says he plans to subvert the Constitution to redistribute wealth might be an attention grabber.

Do you find it significant?

I figured it out Obama was a Marxist after the first few times I heard him back early in the primaries, when did you figure it out?

It just repeats what we already know...

...and the reality is that the infamous "undecided voter" eyes will simply glaze over when presented with arcane discussions regarding consitutional law.

Nothing short of an instance where he stares into the camera and says "I am going to take most of your money and spend it in ways I think best, which includes giving it to people I think need it more than you do, and in exchange for this will take care of your health care and make sure you have a job" is going to make a difference.

And a surprising number of people will vote for him anyway, either because they don't want the responsibility for taking care of themselves, or they honestly believe that they will be the recipient of someone else's labors.

The leftist press is

The leftist press is releasing this immediately prior to the election with just enough time to make it apparent that everything was known about Obama, but with no time for the story to affect the popular mindset.

It has always been said that it takes two weeks for news to effect polling.  With 8 days left till th epolls open, the press can now say "See, we released all the key information on Obama - it just had no effect since the public did not alter its mindset."

They are simply releasing this info so they can claim they did their job on stuff that could arise later.  Sorta like a doctor informing the patient of the major risks of surgery as the patient is first breathing in the anesthetic.

Perhaps, but just wait...

...until the week after the election when the real fun stuff starts to come out.  (Like the videos the LA Times is hoarding)

Of course, this phenomenon will only last until the “fairness doctrine” is re-implemented, and expanded to cover the Internet as well.  Then such faints of journalistic responsibility won’t even be necessary.

I have had the spinning

happen at my Blog too by one commentor.  Basically they called us all morons for believeing this hype that is has nothing to do with socialism (of course they dont try to explain it just name call and run away kind of like the drive by media).

Geeze...

...you'd think 60-seconds going over his tax plan would make his Marxist intentions clear enough.

How can it be "taken out of

How can it be "taken out of context" when the entire "context" is there?

and in what context would that not beconsidered advocacy for SCOTUS to rule for government to provide economic equality?

Irony par excellence

The US Senate today.

Anyone who has ever heard Santayana's famous quote about History repeating itself is condemned to repeat it.

Maybe not so ironic.....

Did you get a load of the very first sentence?

Written in 1787, ratified in 1788, and in operation since 1789, the United States Constitution remains a vital and living document.

(emphasis mine)

This, from the US Senate!

Could it be?

My constant complaint about Obama is that he's an empty, blank canvass on which liberals paint their own picture, but then they assume that Obama thinks just like them. And oh how he loves them. Personally. Obama sustains the illusion by saying nothing.

The only way to defeat that illusion is to force him to explain his philosophy. He's never been forced to explain himself and his principles, because the moment he does, he'll unravel.

They listened to his original rhetoric and swooned. But after they had a chance to think about what he actually said, his rhetoric became a joke. "We are the ones we've been waiting for." The day of his elections will stop the oceans from rising. Right.

Now he has new rhetoric: "getting the economy to work from the ground up." If we give a couple bucks to the urban poor, they'll start businesses? We don't need lemonade stands. What does he mean by that vacuous rhetoric? A couple weeks ago, Joe the Plumber forced Obama to explain himself, and Obama botched it. He said he wants to spread the wealth around.

But it's late October and I pretty much gave up. The news media has effectively blocked for him, saying that he doesn't need to do or say anything. Every debate analysis said that he merely had to avoid raping a nun on national television, and he'd be judged the winner. If he spoke softly and confidently, even if he uttered complete whoppers like Biden did, he could win on style.

Could it be? Could someone finally force him to attempt something, rather than sit back and coast to victory? Force him to explain, and his balloon will pop. He's an illusion!

"....ridiculous and vacuous charge,"

Charge??

What charge? We are simply hearing the mans words. He is expressing his thoughts. I see no issue with regard to context. He is equating "redistrbution" to a good thing, civil rights reform.

"...I do think it's important that we as Democrats are able to explain to people what Obama said..."

Why is it that so much of what Obama says requires explaining?

Here's an idea. Maybe someone could contact this KOS commenter, tell him to put his "explanation" in order and then give him his very own one-time, boogeyman free blog post here on NB.

If he's got the chops it would make for interesting dialogue.

Meantime, I've gotta go earn.

Just beKos ...

I can't even wrap my head around this one. The Kos is double-spinning doublespeak.

when its time to share the

when its time to share the wealth-what wealth, you have killed it. why bust the hump? let BHO take care of your needs.

so everyone sits on the couch. has Marxist thinking ever worked. No, but lets try it again!!!Are the Dems this stupid? The Hollywood types will be the 1st to feel the pain. No thinking outside the box, and the box gets smaller as the pressure from the Marxists ways fail. Funny how that works.

Barney Frank wants to cut the Military Budget by 25%-why stop there, cut the military out all together. let Bill Ayers take over the defense dept as well as ACORN-Perfect!!!

BHO thinks all whites should pay more taxes. PERFECT!!!

Recommended campaign slogan

Recommended campaign slogan to be repeated often by McCain-Palin:

"Unlike Obama's plan, we work for you, you don't work for us!"

BHO said it in 2001 and AGAIN in 2008 - - You can't SPIN it

It is what he said
It is what he believes
Redistribution of Wealth
Wait till El Rushbo weighs in on this.
MSM is Quiet . . . but someone in the MSM is gonna SCOOP on this Story sometime ..tic...tic...tic

Wouldn't you think that even the loons at the Daily Kos

would get tired of always having to explain "what he really meant?"  I thought Obama was such an eloquent speaker.  For someone whose main claim to fame is his glib tongue he certainly has a lot of trouble being understood.  Everything seems to requires further explanation - nuance.

Perhaps it's just that we DO understand what he's selling and sensible people aren't buying.

Another Important Point

In this audiotape, Obama talks about how the Supreme Court was too focused on the CONSTITUTION and what our Founding Fathers actually wrote, and didn't do enough to reinterpret the CONSTITUTION to push forward their political agenda.  Oh, yeah, I want THAT ONE appointing judges in this country...

R-E-M-I-S-I-N-T-E-R-P-R-E-T-A-T-I-O-N

"THE SUPREME COURT DIDN'T DO ENOUGH TO R-E-I-N-T-E-R-P-R-E-T THE CONSTITUTION."

OK, Crash, you're yelling

OK, Crash, you're yelling and spelling, but what are you trying to say?

News Flash: Obama a Marxist

This should not be news to anyone.  However, it probably is news to some of the useful idiots who were planning to vote for Obama.  That's why the MSM won't cover this.

Who Cares?

Guys, guys.  This election is not going to be decided by the Kosters or us here.  It will be decided to People and Us magazine subscribers who like the smile on Oba's face.  They wouldn't even know in what century the Constitution was written.  And of course the MSM is doing NOTHING to educate the dumb masses other than what a wonderful family man O is and how he is being attacked by that nasty ole veteran.

Barack the Marxist

The 2nd College Edition of the American Heritage Dictionary defines Marxism as "a system of thought that gives class struggle a primary role in leading society from bourgeois democracy under capitalism to a socialist society and from there to communism." Sound like any Presidential candidate you know? Is it mere coinsidence that both class struggle and avoiding "middle classness" as Rev. Wright and Michelle tell audiences are main tenets of black liberation theology? Also, Obama's cost estimates for his "check from Barack plan" is based on assumptions which don't include chain migration, an integral part of his immigration plan. How much more would that raise the cost , and where will the money come from? Marxists believe in incremental but unchangable "advance", since they believe history is on their side. Afterall, Ayers has been working on this when he gave up bombs and took over teachers/kids minds.

I was wondering when we

I was wondering when we would see The October Surprise.

"Dewey defeats Truman!"  --Chicago Tribune, 1948

Two weeks too late. This

Two weeks too late.

This was not planned by the McCain campaign, but rather by the press who needed to get it out ahead of the election - but desired to have it have no effect on their chosen Messiah.

Not a big deal

This really isn't a big deal. Aren't there bigger fish to fry for the GOP?
