HuffPo Blogger: Landslide Needed to Defeat 'Unheroic Killer' McCain

By P.J. Gladnick | October 06, 2008 | 17:26

A  A

Mirror, mirror, on the wall; who's the kookiest HuffPo blogger of them all?

Until today, I would have declared former Al Gore fashion consultant, Naomi Wolf, the hands down winner in the flat out nuts department over at the Huffington Post. I thought there was no way anybody over there could exceed Wolf's insanity. Here are some Naomi Wolf gems that any contender for the kooky crown would have to exceed:

..I believe the Rove-Cheney cabal is using Sarah Palin as a stalking horse, an Evita figure, to put a popular, populist face on the coming police state and be the talk show hostess for the end of elections as we know them. If McCain-Palin get in, this will be the last true American election.

...people's bank accounts are being tampered with: wire transfers to banks vanish in midair. I personally keep opening bank accounts that are quickly corrupted by fraud. Money vanishes. Coworkers of mine have to keep opening new email accounts as old ones become infected. And most disturbingly to me personally is the mail tampering I have both heard of and experienced firsthand. My tax returns vanished from my mailbox. All my larger envelopes arrive ripped straight open apparently by hand. When I show the postman, he says "That's impossible." Horrifyingly to me is the impact on my family. My childrens' report cards are returned again and again though perfectly addressed; their invitations are turned back; and my daughters many letters from camp? Vanished. All of them. Not one arrived.

So there is no way such insanity can be matched? Right? Wrong. Welcome to one  Norman MacAfee whose blog appears to have achieved the impossible: sounding even more deranged than Naomi Wolf. So fasten your seatbelts, folks, as we enter the bizarre sanity challenged world of Norman MacAfee (emphasis mine):

Eight years ago, a close election allowed the neocons to steal the presidency, ushering in the worst eight years in our history: the Bush coup.

Got that? A "Bush coup." Keep in mind this was posted at the Huffington Post, not at the Democratic Underground which has a well-deserved reputation for leather strap biting postings. We return you now to MacAfee in mid-rant about the Bush coup:

There of course have been other horrendous times. But they were about something important: The Civil War was about ending slavery and saving the Union. The Depression ushered in the New Deal. World War II defeated fascism, at least for a few decades, until Bush 43.

But the Bush coup has made our country hated and feared and ridiculed, a rogue state, a preemptive war maker, a serial torturer, and a financial basket case. It has given global warming an eight-year-long free pass, destroying much of the natural world as we knew it.

So the first thing is, we must win in a landslide equal to 1964 or 1984 or 1972. Only if we win incontestably, can we not be robbed again by the Diebolds and Katherine Harrises and James Bakers of the world.

MacAfee is just getting warmed up before he plunges into the depths of depravity by calling John McCain an unheroic killer:

About John McCain's heroism. Is it heroic to bomb and kill from on high innocent civilians as he did when bombing Hanoi, in a war that was patently unjust, which was begun on a lie (the Tonkin Gulf resolution)?

McCain himself said, though joking, on Meet the Press in the 90's, that he was a war criminal.

He wasn't some poor grunt drafted and slogging through big muddy.

He was the pure flower of the pampered military industrial complex.

And McCain's long imprisonment? According to MacAfee it taught him sneaky survival skills that he is using like a cornered rat against Barack Obama:

But his imprisonment, and torture, have made him what he is. It was without question a horrible experience, though at least he lived. The people who died in the Vietnam War, the three million Vietnamese, the 58,000 Americans, the people McCain's bombs killed, were not so lucky.

But captivity is what made him different. During his captivity, he perfected the skills of survival. During this campaign, we can see now how that experience made him. And we can also see how ill-equipped he is for anything but his own survival.

He is now cornered. He faces defeat. All those survival skills learned at the Hanoi Hilton are coming into play. He is now the caged, cagey prisoner looking for any way to survive. He will do whatever he can to fool whoever is tormenting him: not his Vietnamese captors now, but the American voter, the media, Barack Obama, even Sarah Palin.

MacAfee's finishes off his notes from the rubber room with an apocalyptic vision of what will happen if Obama is not elected:

If we allow the right wing, the neocons, to steal another election, as they did in 2000, the country is finished. Maybe the world will be too.

That is why a landslide is the best chance for the survival of our country, of even the human race and the natural world around us.

Got that, folks? If a certain Chicago machine politician loses the election, life on earth will be at great risk. Well, at least we won't have to worry about MacAfee losing his mind in case of an Obama defeat. That ship appears to have sailed long ago.
