Janeane Garofalo: Great to Jail All Republicans

Ah, you can just feel the love emanating from left-wing comedian Janeane Garofalo.

Appearing on the September 12 broadcast of HBO's "Real Time" the actress joked that it would be a great idea to jail all Republicans.

Garofalo's tolerance humor on "Real Time," which also included guests John Fund and Salman Rushdie, on the subject of Republicans begins at the 06:33 mark in this video (emphasis mine):

JANEANE GAROFALO: Well, you know what? It's because Democrats as people are fundamentally more decent. That's what makes the Democrats...

JOHN FUND: Oh please!

GAROFALO: That's absolutely! At this point that is true!  If you look at the Republican National Convention just as one example. If you saw the tenor of the speeches at the Republican National Convention and of the delegates it has become a party. And they call themselves Republicans. I don't call them Republicans or conservatives. They have become a party of small minded, very petty, mean... unrestrained id. The unrestrained id.

SALMAN RUSHDIE (laughing): That's a slogan!

GAROFALO: And it's all limbic brain stuff. And it's all red meat thrown out for the dopes.

FUND: I have a theory.

BILL MAHER: By the way, Sarah Palin actually throws red meat.

FUND: I have a theory that the side that most belittles and most underestimates their opposition in elections generally tends to lose. And I think that you just about stepped into that because saying that one party is fundamentally inherently more decent. Political party is a collection of people seeking power. That's all it is. And for you to characterize people who vote for one party over the other as being more decent...That's not real tolerant. I thought you believed in tolerance and diversity. That's not tolerant.

GAROFALO: First of all there is no evidence to support that the current incarnation of the Republican party, hyphen conservative movement, has any tethering to decency, kindness, tolerance, open-mindedness.  What do they stand for? Torture as a policy. They stand for homophobia. They stand for no reproductive justice. They stand for denying global warming.

FUND: So what should we do? Jail them?

GAROFALO: That would be great!
