Ah, you can just feel the love emanating from left-wing comedian Janeane Garofalo.
Appearing on the September 12 broadcast of HBO's "Real Time" the actress joked that it would be a great idea to jail all Republicans.
Garofalo's tolerance humor on "Real Time," which also included guests John Fund and Salman Rushdie, on the subject of Republicans begins at the 06:33 mark in this video (emphasis mine):
JANEANE GAROFALO: Well, you know what? It's because Democrats as people are fundamentally more decent. That's what makes the Democrats...
JOHN FUND: Oh please!
GAROFALO: That's absolutely! At this point that is true! If you look at the Republican National Convention just as one example. If you saw the tenor of the speeches at the Republican National Convention and of the delegates it has become a party. And they call themselves Republicans. I don't call them Republicans or conservatives. They have become a party of small minded, very petty, mean... unrestrained id. The unrestrained id.
SALMAN RUSHDIE (laughing): That's a slogan!
GAROFALO: And it's all limbic brain stuff. And it's all red meat thrown out for the dopes.
FUND: I have a theory.
BILL MAHER: By the way, Sarah Palin actually throws red meat.
FUND: I have a theory that the side that most belittles and most underestimates their opposition in elections generally tends to lose. And I think that you just about stepped into that because saying that one party is fundamentally inherently more decent. Political party is a collection of people seeking power. That's all it is. And for you to characterize people who vote for one party over the other as being more decent...That's not real tolerant. I thought you believed in tolerance and diversity. That's not tolerant.
GAROFALO: First of all there is no evidence to support that the current incarnation of the Republican party, hyphen conservative movement, has any tethering to decency, kindness, tolerance, open-mindedness. What do they stand for? Torture as a policy. They stand for homophobia. They stand for no reproductive justice. They stand for denying global warming.
FUND: So what should we do? Jail them?
GAROFALO: That would be great!

The Rocky Mountain Collegian: Illustrating Idiocy
Liberals & Pogroms
September 16, 2008 - 20:48 ET by SquonkamaticEver notice how liberal democrats, who like to boast of themselves as the party of tolerance & inclusiveness, have this thing for mass detentions if not outright extermination of those who disagree with them ideologically? A couple years back I was at a social event and encountered someone I had not seen since the 90s when I was a deluded, media-obsessed liberal. At one point the discussion turned to politics -- or more specifically, how much Bush sucked, and was worse than Hitler -- and my buddy turned to me and quite literally said, "Wouldn't this world be a better place if we could just round up all those people like Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity, Bush and Cheney, all of them, and have them lined up against a wall and shot?" I explained to my friend (who is still my friend, though we haven't spoken since) that such tactics were exactly how Hitler, the Nazis and their ilk silenced voices of opposition. And that it takes at least one other political party to make a democracy. It is because of our differences that we become stronger than totalitarianistic regimes, I explained, and that rounding people up and shooting them isn't a very good way at reaching the compromise that is known of as democracy.
I do not know if my words had any lasting effect but it was then that I realized how much liberal democrats seem to be in favor of at least the concept of mass exterminations, incarcerations, and disenfranchizement of those who disagree with them. Anyone who voted for Bush should be disqualified for voting for life, we should all be lined up against a wall and shot, and as Ms. Gerrafelo points out, mass jailings/exile or internment are their solutions for HOW TO WIN AT POLITICS. Just get the opposition out of the way, shut down their radio stations, take away their broadcast licences, sterilize them so they can't have any children who might be reared with similar values, ban them from the internet or public speaking venues, make sure none of their works of expression are seen, read, or heard, and make legislation outlawing the difference of opinion.
My point is that you almost never hear conservatives suggest anything like that, just these firebrand liberal democrats who can't deal with the fact that they lose elections because people don't really want to vote for their candidates and live under their liberal policies. As the election grows nearer we can expect to hear more of this.

She forgot to mention they're "racists" as well (although that term was also applied to any liberal who didn't support Obama during the Dem primary).
I guess stereotyping people is all cool and hip, as long as you're a liberal and doing it to the right group.
The hypocrisy of these pious a-holes is what really make them hard to stomach.

I require that my new position will allow me to verbally contradict all that is right as I see it with my ultra liberal eyes. Sorry Garofalo, but, I am a Republican because I DO believe in tolerance, and other ideas, and enjoy a good debate. Most liberals just shout anyone down who doesn't agree with them, and call them names like "small minded, petty, and mean"
The Republicans I personally know, are all college educated, have good jobs, know plenty of science and history, keep working to improve their lives, want to keep the government as far away as possible, expect a strong military to protect the USA, and are always proud to be an American in the United States.

September 17, 2008 - 07:12 ET by HockeyKidI love it when celebs try to prove how smart they are. Mizz Garafolo states that Republicans act in a "limbic" fashion, as "unrestrained id". Let's take a look at what the limbic system of the brain does, shall we?
Clearly, Mizz G means that conservatives can only react, as in knee-jerk fashion. Sadly, the limbic system is responsible for, among other things, emotion, homeostasis, decision-making, and long-term memory. So remember, according to Mizz G (and Maher and all the hooting libs in the audience), liberals--who don't behave in a "limbic" fashion--are emotionless robots with no self-control who can't make decisions and don't have the mental capacity to remember the purpose of soap.
As for "unrestrained id", I guess it's a term that works for those who still buy into Freudian theories (how very "progressive"!). Of course, for Mizz G's crowd, the idea that the sexual impulse is the single motivating force in personality seems to resonate, so there you go.

Ah yes, "compassionate and tolerant Liberalism" on display by Janene Garofalo, for all the world to see.
No, Miiiiiiiiiiizzzzz G, the only ones who need to rot in jail are those who deserve it - like your self-proclaimed "decent" friends at Gawker who violated Federal law by hacking into the Alaskan Governor's private email, publishing private content, then bragging about it. Or your candidate's associates who admittedly and unapologetically blow up Federal buildings. Or your news media's treasonous actions of sharing our national security secrets with the enemy in time of war. Or the vocal wing of your entire party, and most of your so-called "profession," who care more about the rights and concerns of murderers and traitors and child molesters than us actual-working, taxpaying, law-abiding, family- and country-loving "flyover" rubes you mock.
You and your ungrateful comrades don't deserve the uniquely American freedoms that Truly Decent people fought and died for. Since you love socialist Cuba and Europe so much, it's beyond me why you don't go live there and enjoy your own version of utopia. No wait, I do know why: it's because Liberals are all talk, no action. At least not positive, constructive action.
