NY Daily News Finds 'Republican Voters' Critical of Palin...at Obama Rally

  • Bookmark and Share

Your humble correspondent is thinking of writing a story about Democrat voters who are insulted by vice-presidential nominee, Joe Biden. And I think I know just the place to find such Democrat voters---at a John McCain rally in Ohio. Just to save time and effort, I'm not even going to find out if the people I interview are even Democrats so I won't specifically identify them as such even though the headline for my story will read, "Joe Biden excites, insults swing-state Democrat voters."

Does that sound ridiculous to you? Well, guess what? That is exactly what New York Daily News staff writers, Michael McCauliff and Celeste Katz, did in reverse with their article, "Sarah Palin excites, insults swing-state Republican voters." I guess the crack investigative team of McCauliff and Katz figured that the best place to find Republican voters would be at an Obama rally (emphasis mine):

But Palin didn't impress voters who spoke to the Daily News at a Barack Obama rally in Ohio, perhaps the most critical swing state of all. "I think McCain is using it as a ploy to sway Hillary voters, but Palin is entirely against everything Hillary stands for, and I think women will find it offensive," said Emily Miller, 25, of Toledo. "It will backfire."

Debra Esthmeyer, 28, of New Knoxville, Ohio, said, "I'm insulted, as a woman. If Sarah Palin were a man with her same credentials, there is no way John McCain would have picked her." Palin's "no Condoleezza Rice. She's no Hillary Clinton," Esthmeyer said. "She's no Michelle Obama, either."

Notice that neither woman, the only ones "insulted" by Sarah Palin in the article, were specifically identified as Republicans in the article itself. However, that didn't keep the Daily News from making it seem that "Republican voters" were insulted by Palin in the title of their article. See, the trick is to find "Lifelong Republicans" when writing an article portraying supposed members of the GOP (who are almost always not members of that party) who are critical of Republican candidates. McCauliff and Katz didn't even make the effort to bother with that shallow pretense.

Well, back to work on a history book I'm writing. It's about "Republicans" insulted by Abraham Lincoln based on the memoirs of delegates to the Democrat convention in Charleston, SC in 1860.

Want to see a news

Want to see a news organization fully and totally engrossed in trying to develop this story into the moral and political disastor of the century? Review the video or transcripts of this morning's GMA. Be sure to have your barf bag handy, though, because you won't believe the hipocracy and holier-then-thou attitude of GMA's hosts. Absoulutely disgusting. A sample: "When did McCain know about this? And how could he have selected such an inexperienced person for the VP slot?

CBS and NBC, by the way, led with Hanna -- but not GMA.

"Another Democrat for McCain"

I saw a photo of a massive McCain rally from St. Louis and saw more than one "Another Democrat for McCain" poster.  I had no idea they existed, because outside of seeing interviews with Hillary "PUMA"s or Joe Liberman, I don't think the media is too interested in covering regular Joes making the switch (i.e., Reagan Democrats).  Oh, the media.  Watching Joe Scarborough this morning and Mike Barnacle reacting to THREE stories ABOVE THE FOLD in the NYT about a pregnant 17 year-old - "They're determined to create a landslide ----- for McCain."

Palin SURGE

The MSM will do whatever it can to downplay the PALIN SURGE. Proof in itself that it is working big time.

When asked if he went to war with Iraq to derail the impeachment vote: “I don’t think any serious person would believe that any President would do such a thing." - President Clinton (Dec 1998).

"I'm insulted, as a

"I'm insulted, as a woman".

(a) Do Republican women ever say this? I can't recall ever seeing this quote from a republican woman. Perhaps that's because only Dim women think of themselves as victims or special.

(b) Have you ever heard the expression "I'm insulted, as a man"? Neither have I. Why do Dim women think that this phrase has any special meaning whatsoever?

Actually, yes

Whenever the MSM or the Lefties (Yeah, I know -- How can you distinguish?) make their sweeping generalizations about women, then I'm insulted as a woman.

I'm not pro-abortion, I don't vote for men based on how studly the infobabes think they are, I don't buy into a socialist agenda -- all the things that supposedly I do, according to the Left, just by virtue of having that second X chromosome.

Obama Rally

Yeah, how surprising is that? You go to an Obama rally and (gasp!) find voters critical of Palin. Not long ago I jumped into a swimming pool. Imagine my shock when I found out I got wet.

I'm posting this, and it's OT, but this is just the weirdest thing. The above paragraph is what came up on my screen (with the subject line) when I clicked on "edit" on my own previous comment.

I did not write that italicized paragraph; you can see that from my comment above here.

OOPS. No you can't. My own comment is gone. It was about the reporters not being responsible for the headline, but the story itself was false too, since they quoted "voters without portfolio."

This is jus the weirdest thing! Anyone have any idea how something like this happens?

And did anyone see my other comment before it disappeared???/

Please tell me I'm not crazy!!

You're not crazy

You're not crazy. I think I might have clicked on "edit" instead of "reply" by accident and knocked off your original comment. Sorry. I didn't mean to do that.

Thank you, thank you

Thank you, thank you P.J.!

I really thought I was losing it! LOL It didn't occur to me that administrators can edit the comments.

I've had some weird things happen to me on the computer, but that took the cake!

Whew!  I feel better now! :-)

Didn't Geraldine Ferraro say the same thing about Bambi, just substitute "woman" with "black". And didn't the media and all the leftists say she was therefore a "racist". How come then no leftist media type came out and called Debra a sexist. Funny how it works...

Are the left wing extremists

Are the left wing extremists that dumb? the reason she was chosen is that she is not like Rice Hillary or michelle. Sarah is a real Christian, a real conservative, and is totally competent. She looks a lot better too.

Go easy on 'em, huh?

You seriously don't expect them to descend to the pits of hell, a Republican exposition to get a Republican opinion. I mean, come on, you can catch like, conservative cooties or sumtin!

I mean, really, the neo in neoconservative means new! Neoconservatives are liberals that have been exposed to conservative cooties and like zombified or sumtin!

Conservative Cooties!!

ROFL!

Hurricane Palin

As the GOP deals with Hurrican Gustav and Hurricane Paliln, the Right says we on the left are afraid of Palin or Jealous of her because we are dong what he should have done Vetted Her! What we are upset about is the hypocrisy of McCain to (for months) label Barack as an empty suit, has no experience, etc., etc. and then to pick a VP “beauty queen” who is up for ethics investigation, wwho is completely unqualified, and shows very little intellectual capacity just because she is a Woman in a dishonest attempt to Steal Hillary women, is prepostorous and foolhardy (fools rush in where Angels fear to tread). And we are terrified because John McCain is old and not in the best of health and there is a very REAL possibility that this woman who is not fit to be President could be president. That is outrageous! And a slap in the face to the American people. It is dangerous and reckless and this man has to be stopped! This — McCain’s Rush to Judgment — has unveiled the true persona (a dangerous and reckless man who puts party first before the country)! His campaign motto “Country First” is a lie and a deception — something GOP is good at, but not anymore!

Hurricane Palin - destroys the leftist coast

I like that Hurricane Palin - perfect description. She is exposing the pathetic inexperience of Obama as well as his bogus claims of new politics. You people need to get out of her path or you'll drowned in the flood and no one will even care.

Palin has more experience than Obama - much more valuable executive experience and has more integrity than he has by a long shot.

Her winds are blowing away Obama's phony facade. It's a great brilliant pick by McCain. No other one could have exposed him so thoroughly.

Unqualified?

<<...is completely unqualified, and shows very little intellectual capacity...>>

And how did you, of "we on the left" arrive at this profound conclusion?  That Gov. Palin show "little intellectual capacity? Did you look at her college transcripts? What a cheap, pathetic insult.

Since "we on the left" are complaining about her, and the worthless creeps in the lamestream media are in panic-mode, trying their darndest to discredit the lady with their usual stupid tactics, I'd say that John McCain made the right choice.  "We on the left" stand a very, very good chance of getting snookered big time in November.

Puppetmaster Obama knows all too well that it may be all over for him, and he's panicking as well.

It is tough being on the left, I am much saddened and tearful.

May I suggest a video to sooth your soul.

It's french. I know. Here are the english translated lyrics.

Translation:
It's Hard To Be A Baby

It's tough to be a baby
Oh, baby, it's tough to be a baby
Oh, baby, it's tough to be a baby
Tough to be a baby

My name's Jordy, I'm four years old, I'm really small
It's tough to be a baby, tough to be a baby
Come here, don't touch that, sit still, don't go there
Do this, do that, blah, blah, blah
Why this, why that, why is that like this?
Why this, why that, why is that like this?

Oh, baby, it's tough to be a baby
Oh, baby, it's tough to be a baby
Tough to be a baby

And mommy says, go to bed, brush your teeth
Don't pick your nose, don't do this, don't do that
Blah, blah, blah
Why is this, why is that, why is that like this?
Why is this, why is that, why is that like this?
Don't move - no way!
Don't touch that - no way!
Don't go there - no way!
You won't get your dessert
And grandma, grandpa and mommy
It's tough to be a baby

Oh, baby, it's tough to be a baby
Oh, baby, it's tough to be a baby
Tough to be a baby

I love this song!

I haven't heard it since the mid-90s. Jordy must be about 18 now.

Ahh!

Exactly how do you know

Exactly how do you know that Palin has no intellectual capacity and is completely unqualified? Because your buddies on the left say so?

That's about as intellectually honest as another lefty here who said the fact that Obama built the best camgaign organization proved that he was qualified to be President (because he couldn't come up with any other reason).

Palin only "might" become President if McCain wins. Obama the Unqualified WILL be President on Day One if he wins. Even some in his own party said he wasn't ready, including his VP pick, Joe Biden!

I will, however, commend you on leaving her daughter out of your criticism.

completely? shows very little intellectual capacity?

rather extreme word choices. Even I wouldn't be 'completely' unqualified (although, I admit, I have not given a speech about hope and change to adoring crowds and am not a bestselling author, writing about that most fascinating subject, ME).

So, is Diane Sawyer "completely unqualified" to be a news anchor even though she is a national Junior Miss pageant winner?

What is your basis for stating she "shows very little intellectual capacity"? Do you really think she has an IQ of 60?

For REAL Change

Clearly you don't get it.

Clearly you don't get it. The woman took on Big Politics and SHE WON. And we love her for it.

That she's a woman is a bonus, because it just makes the libs so flustered. She totally knocks the air out of the snide Leftie remark that Republican women are all prolife because nobody'd want to do to them what it takes to get them pregnant in the first place. (Recall Craig Ferguson's "naughty librarian vibe"? Clearly there's more men than just Sarah's husband who find her attractive. There goes another theory, nu? As if Patricia Heaton didn't already knock it out of the water.)

A hot prolife babe. That sends the lefties choking on their spittle every time!

Can't wait

To read your Lincoln book. It sounds like a real in depth piece of research work.

I think we should all be

I think we should all be careful to not wear blinders too often during this election.  I've been a Republican voter all my life, as are most of my family, and we had plenty to say about Palin this weekend.  We all felt that McCain's campaign must have lied about how they had considered her for VP, and that she was just a last-minute attempt to grab the votes of all those women who were on TV last week harping about Hillary.  The view was this was shortsighted as these women all seemed to be feminists who would rather die than vote for a pro-life candidate.

Also, with the revelations of Palin's alledged misuse of her office and the pregnancy of her daughter (not to mention thinking it's okay for a 17-yr old girl to marry some 18-yr old guy just because of a baby) there was just no way McCain had been considering and vetting this women for months as he alledges.

Yes, there are quite a few Republicans who are critical of Palin and McCain for picking her over Romney.

funny Bruzilla - I seem to remember you sticking up for

Obama's Biden position by saying it was just media rumors. Did you ever give your opinion after he did actually pick him?

You know what... I don't

You know what... I don't think I did, so I'll offer it now.  It was a bonehead pick.  Biden has a well-documented track record of saying the wrong thing at the right time, and it has cost him dearly time and time again.  Now it's going to cost Obama.  Biden's pick was foolish.

Bruzilla

As far back as any of us over 40 can remember, 17 has been a marriageable age.  It is only in our current age of enlightenment that it is "too young".  Some of us have parents or grandparents still together after 60 years having been married at that early age.

Criticism for picking Palin over Romney is valid.  There are ideological as well as character issues with both that are fair game.

Peripheral issues such as a pregnant daughter (IMHO) do not necessarily reflect on the parent.  Having done quite a few things as a young man that were contrary to my parents training, I can't associate the actions of the daughter that closely to the upbringing afforded her.

Cool, I was going to post

Cool, I was going to post pretty much the same thing, but I won't duplicate.

But I will say that that's the way things used to be done. A girl got pregnant, they got married. Sometimes they ended up divorced, and sometimes they stayed married for decades.

Thanks notherbelt

I'm watching my regular DVR delay of Morning Joe.

So far I've been stunned by Mika's strikingly fair defense of Gov. Palin (twice) saying "In this prolife family, In two cases where they have been challenged, they have chosen life"

What got into Mika today?

Rocky & Bullwinkle '08

Did Mika actually say, "Bias"?

I don't remember the context, but I think Mika referred to media bias this morning. I don't have a recording of it. Does anyone else have the details?

Yes mom-rox

I think it had to do with MSM ignoring the Edwards scandal, because that was brought up.  I'm not completely sure.

Rocky & Bullwinkle '08

OMG!!!  I can't believe

OMG!!!  I can't believe what I am reading!  Are some people so desperate to see McCain get elected that they have now justified in their minds that letting your daughter get married at 17, to an 18-yr old with little education and no career, is good parenting and judgement?  How "enlightened" does someone have to be to not see that letting kids get married and try to raise a kid these days with nothing but a public school education and a limited job market is a really bad idea?

I passed 40 a long time ago, and yes I remember when marrying at 17 was no big deal.  But that was back when you could go from HS to a job that you could go into at entry level and grow up into management without fears of downsizing or layoffs.  Those jobs are few and far between these days, and most jobs that pay enough to raise a family in a decent lifestyle require a college diploma or 10 years or so of experience.  Maybe if you're living in a trailer in Alabama and your kid gets pregnant at 17 it's a good idea to get her married off, but for the governor of Alaska?  I'm no governor, but if my daughter had gotten pregnant at 17 she would have been able to abort the child, let the child be adopted, or let the child be raised by my wife and I until my daughter got herself on her feet.  But no way in hell would I let her pass on college and her future to marry some 18-year old kid who wouldn't be able to support her or their child.

It used to be that Republicans were actively against teen pregnancy and having teen parents try to raise kids when there was no way they could afford to... but that was before they started skewering more and more sacred beliefs in the name of getting McCain elected.

Bruzilla

How is it that education somehow shunts the natural instinct to pair and mate?

I know the advent of the pill sort of kicked the ball upfield, but emotional involvement pretty much happens uniformly for all generations.

Rocky & Bullwinkle '08

Education doesn't do

Education doesn't do anything to shunt the natuaral instinct to pair and mate, but it sure makes a whopper of a difference with how you deal with the outcome of that mating!  For how many decades have Republicans been saying how bad an idea it is for kids to be having kids?  For how long have we been harping about having to pay billions of dollars to support kids from parents who had them without having the means to support them?  And why have we been against this?  Because you can't adequately raise a kid and go to college or work a full-time job, and trying to get a job that pays enough to raise a family these days, without a college education, is damned hard.

If you want to speak of enlightenment, how about how most kids today have been well enlightened by the media and the Libs as to the dangers of unprotected sex... yet these two geniuses went ahead and did it anyway.  I'll bet kids that are this smart will have nothing but success in their future!  I would bet that just a month ago, if you had asked all these folks who are commending Palin for this decision today if letting your 17-year old daughter marry some 18-year old kid just because she had gotten pregnant was a good idea... they would have said "Hell No!"  But now that they are willing to smack a smily face on just about anything to get McCain elected, it's suddenly all good.  They are selling their souls just like the Dems did to get Clinton elected.

Non-traditional Family Values

Dick Cheney's daughter is a lesbian! Talk about non-traditional family values! That DOOMED his chances of becoming a Republican V... Oh, wait! Never mind.

Obama: My job is above my pay grade

Thats just it Cobra...now

Thats just it Cobra...now had she been outed as a lesbian, this would be a non story, the problem is she is an ordinary, average teenager. Thats the real problem the media has with her.

Save a SeAL, club a liberal!!

Excellent point Cobra - attacks on Cheney's daughter backfired

big time and this will too. Liberals don't understand conservatives. Liberals are the judgmental people.

do-overs

CA, your comment, "Having done quite a few things as a young man that were contrary to my parents training", reminds me of people being asked if they would do anything differently if they could live their life over again. Invariably, people always answer, "No".

That answer always perplexes me because I would certainly do things differently - either do things that I hadn't done or not do some things I had.

Obama: My job is above my pay grade

Take off your own blinders

"I've been a Republican voter all my life"

Whenever someone makes this claim, I question his or her sincerity.

When it comes to VP picks, Sarah Palin is FAR more qualified than the majority of Republican VP‘s (or democrat, or any other party for that matter), past and present. I believe that you’re AFRAID of Sarah due to her obvious qualifications and her established Republican credentials and that the positive effect her name has on the Presidential ticket worries you greatly.

It's obvious that 'reporters' think they can make it up

There doesn't need to be any actual inconvenient 'reporting', meaning actual going to places that are out of your way or that you'd rather not go. Why not just stay home and make up the story as if you had gone out? You already know what you'll find and what other people will say, so it actually saves time and energy.

The day that "politician" became a career choice is the day we started losing the Republic. Let's get it back! Alan Keyes '08.

They Don't KNOW Any Republicans

A famous Dem quote (and I wish I knew who said it, for attribution) said something to the effect, "How did _____ get elected.  Nobody I KNOW voted for him!!!"  Well, this is absolutely true of the media.  They are almost ALL Dems, they hang around with other Dems, they live in metropolitan areas where liberals live, and they wouldn't know how to find an actual Republican if their lives depended on it.  So naturally, they would go to an OBAMA rally to troll for Republicans!  Are these people really this stupid, or just this lazy?

BTW, I loved the comment about them being afraid to catch Republican "cooties"...

How many

"lifelong Republicans" would you expect to find at an Obama rally?

Total = 2?

I don't know anyone who would waste their time at a rally except to see what the otherside is thinking. Anyone identifying themselves with the commets in the article have to be lying if they claim to be Republican.
