Denver Post Downplays Recreate 68 While Criticizing Rush Limbaugh

By P.J. Gladnick | April 26, 2008 - 10:13 ET

The Denver Post has managed the amazing feat of criticizing Rush Limbaugh for supposedly calling for riots at this summer's Democrat convention in Denver while completely downplaying the role of the very organization calling for recreating 68 and all the problems of Chicago '68 that implies in their article provocatively titled Limbaugh dreams of DNC riot:

Rush Limbaugh says he is not calling for a riot in Denver during the Democratic National Convention — he only "dreams" of it, to the tune of "White Christmas."

The conservative talker discussed the possibility of Mile High unrest in August on his national radio show for a second day in a row Thursday.

"Now, I am not inspiring or inciting riots. I'm dreaming, I'm dreaming of riots in Denver," he said mimicking the holiday tune.

What the Denver Post failed to mention is that Rush sang that in an entirely satirical manner in response to a caller named Lisa on Thursday who accused Rush of being racist for having sung the tune, "I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas." Since the caller also accused Rush of inciting riots in Denver because he has pointed out that Al Sharpton threatened demonstrations at that convention if Barack Obama fails to be nominated, Rush turned both accusations into a parody with "I'm Dreaming of Riots" in order to poke fun at both her accusations. Your humble correspondent heard this live on the air Thursday at a little before 1:00 PM and is surprised that the Denver Post has not bothered to do even the most basic research into the background of this.

Most amazing is that the Denver Post quoted an organizer of the organization Recreate 68 (symbol above) that does plan demonstrations in Denver but only as a way to slam Limbaugh:

Glenn Spagnuolo, an organizer with the protest group Re-create 68, called Limbaugh "a fool." We don't need another 5,000 illiterate Limbaugh listeners coming to Colorado," he said, mocking a comment this week by state Rep. Douglas Bruce, R-Colorado Springs, who called migrant workers "illiterate peasants" as he debated a bill to accommodate up to 5,000 guest workers in the state.

The only other mention of Recreate 68 was a quote by local talk show host, John Andrews, critical of that organization:

"Look, nobody seriously wants violence and civil disobedience at the Denver convention," he said. "Rush is just saying, 'Make our day'; if, in fact, the Re-create 68 hooligans or the Al Sharpton street toughs or anybody else wants to disrupt the convention, they're going to hurt Democrats' chances in the fall."

In stark contrast to the media outrage about Limbaugh's out of context remarks, there is a virtual wall of silence in the mainstream media about the organization actually planning demonstrations in Denver, Recreate 68. A visit to the Recreate 68 web page, Street Tactics, includes a link to their Action Planning Manual page which after you click on it you can see is also called "The Ruckus Action Planning Manual."

Of course, if you based your information solely on the misleading Denver Post article, you would have thought that Rush Limbaugh himself was the author of "The Ruckus Planning Action Manual."

Andrews is half-right

I don't want any violence, but I heartily DO want plenty of civil disobedience at both major parties' conventions, which will otherwise be as overscripted & deadly-boring as they've usually been over the past few decades. Bring it on, especially if it's funny.

A melody for the Liberals

So the Liberals don't like Rush using song to display the anger and violence that is being threatened by the Re-create 68 group if Obama doesn't get nominated? Well, here's one they'll REALLY hate:

This Liberal House is on fire!
Kick off your boots, come and sit a spell
Listen to me worry, come and listen well
All you better best come and lean in liberal boys
Cause I don't dare to raise my voice

I've been sitting here for the longest time
Reading all the warning and the danger signs
I don't have the gift of the prophecy
Telling everybody how it's gonna be

Soon come, soon come the day this liberal tinderbox
Is gonna blow in your face
I don't have the gift of the prophecy
Telling everybody how it's gonna be
You liberals go passing wrong for right and right for wrong
People only stand for that for just so long

It's all gonna catch like a house on fire
Spark an evil blaze and burn higher
Well, I don't have the gift of the prophecy
Telling everybody how it's gonna be
You liberals go passing wrong for right and right for wrong
People only stand for that for just so long

I don't have the gift of the prophecy
Telling everybody how it's gonna be
There's a wild fire catching in the whip of the wind
That could start a conflagration
Like there has never been.

This Liberal house is on fire!

Civil Disobedience, violence, vandalism, verbal abuse, profanity

violation of everyone else's rights.....These are common behaviors for democrats unhappy with what does not suit them.    I can't wait to see the reaping in Denver of what they've sown.

Politics by stunt

Sit-ins, protests, demonstrations, marches ... these are effective only if they're unusual. If you conduct all of your politics through these stunts, they give diminishing returns. Eventually, they mean nothing. Let's face it, in the year 2008, if you heard that some group was going to be marching to 'raise consciousness' about any issue, your first and only thought would be how to avoid the traffic snarl. Besides, 'raising consciousness' is usually an adolescent conceit, because it assumes that the only reason that people disagree with you is because they're uninformed. ("If only we explained it to the masses ...")

I'd love to see the Hillary and Obama camps deadlocked by the convention, because of the sheer fun of seeing their dirty tricks. And don't kid yourself - the media is begging for it. These political stunts are all designed to appeal to the media, and the media craves their own importance. The media is going to try as hard as they can to keep the race alive through the convention, because their ratings will go through the roof. You can see it now ... they won't let Obama get too far ahead.

Radical left

Hillary and Barry are two factions within the radical left. Neither one will stand for being denied. Where this will end, nobody knows. However, one thing is for sure. If it ends in protest marches and riots, the Dems will lose as they did in '68. Delicious.

NEVER,NEVER trust a "liberal"

You can bet that right now,

You can bet that right now, Hillary is dusting off her dog-eared well-worn copy of Saul Alinsky's "Rules for Radicals" right now.  She wrote her college thesis paper on her hero Saul.

I'm going to create a playlist just for Hillary and Obama for the summer of '08 with tunes like "Light My Fire" by the Doors, "The Eve of Destruction" by Barry McGuire, and "Gimme Shelter" by the Rolling Stones.

Bring it, Dems.

Besides, 'raising

Besides, 'raising consciousness' is usually an adolescent conceit,

KC, nevermind the conceit, it's a pointless act, because it accomplishes nothing.

Someone wears a red ribbon; that means "I'm aware of AIDS."

My response?  That's nice. And your point is????

I speak from experience

Years ago, as a Jesuit, I spent some time in Central America, and got to know a handful of Jesuits from El Salvador. One night, the Salvadoran military sent in some goons, and murdered everyone in the Jesuit community at the university. Our government was funding and training the Salvadoran military, and so I was outraged. I still am, by the way.

There was a series of protests and demonstrations, and I joined in them. I was still so outraged that I wanted to do something more. So when I heard there was going to be a huge march on the White House, and that many were going to do civil disobedience, I thought I should join it and get arrested. Well, when I drove to DC in the early morning, I was hoping to make a meaningful "statement." However, the whole day was a series of farces, comedies, and insanities. There was so much stupidity in the whole thing, I swear I should write a movie - but no one would believe it. (One typical scene: after midnight, in the holding pen of the DC jail, one of the "true believers" was sitting on the wide open public toilet in the common cell, doing his business ... prayerfully singing "We Shall Overcome." No - I am not kidding.) The demonstration was in front of the White House. The elder Bush wasn't there. He was relaxing in Camp David. The cops told us that they have so many protests, they don't pay attention to any of them. The media covered the march, but mostly because Ed Asner got arrested with us. The national media covered the march with one sentence blip on the news. The local media mentioned the march as it was going to the weather segment; the weatherman even started his report by wisecracking, "Those people look cold out there, don't they?" My arrest had all the drama of a parking ticket.

I wanted to make a statement. Instead, I felt like part of the confederacy of dunces. Never again.

Wow KC... You should

Wow KC...

You should write a book...your life has been interesting to say the least from all of the posts I have read that you have put out here over time.

Plus your writing ability goes without saying.

REINVENT... HEADS BENT

Rush and the riots.

Rush is just playing the Democrats against each other. It is the continuaton of "Operation Chaos". All of us Dittoheads know that "Rush runs America"!

ANOTHER WAY TO MAKE MONEY!!

CHARLIE SINCE THIS BLOWHARD HAS BEEN ON THE RADIO W/HIS GUTTER SNIPING WHAT HAVE WE WON??. This guy is nothing more than a opertunist who has cashed in with using politics and some lonely women west of the delaware river. He is so brave sitting in that bunker of his with screened callers who are dumber than him and when he gets any callers that disagree with him they are humiliated and shortchanged. The soundbites aRE WHAT HE IS ALL ABOUT BUT, when was this clown manoemano with anybody??  It,s all money with this clown and can,t wait to see him gone and the fairness doctrine re instated. The real conservatives don,t need controlled talk enviorment,s!!

mind bending STANISZ

STANISZ, can you explain to us all how you blame Rush Limbaugh when he was simply making fun of what Sharpton said? How can you go after Rush, when there is an actual group of democrats, who are prepareing to riot? It seems to me that you have to twist reality in your mind quite a bit, in order to beleive Rush is the one to blame here.

Why are you so angry and excited to shut up someone you dont agree with?

It,s all money with this

CHARLIE SINCE THIS BLOWHARD HAS BEEN ON THE RADIO W/HIS GUTTER SNIPING WHAT HAVE WE WON??.

How about control of both Congress and the White House after 40 years in 1994?

It,s all money with this clown and can,t wait to see him gone and the fairness doctrine re instated. The real conservatives don,t need controlled talk enviorment,s!!

You can't be much of a conservative if you want the Fairness Doctrine installed again.

fairness doctrine re

Oh please...conservative my

Oh please...conservative my arse.

I agree, bigtimer. Whatever conservative group one lumps themselves in, a true conservative is not going to ask for a return of the so-called Fairness Doctrine.

I would also hope a true conservative could spell and write more grammatically correct, too. ;-)

Fairness Doctrine

<sarcasm>I wonder if the modern liberals who support the Fairness Doctrine really understand what they're proposing. Go ahead, implement the Fairness Doctrine - if it means that Oberleutnant Olbermann, or Chrissy "the sissy" Matthews, or any number of network talking heads have to share their bully pulpit to provide "responsible opposing points of view", it's not all bad. </sarcasm>

"All that is necessary for the trimuph of evil is that good men do nothing."

the fairness doctrine

will only apply to talk radio

the libs all know TV news is already balanced

just to prove hes a big fraud!!

CHARLIE: As much as you may feel that having the doctrine reinstated is wrong, I truly believe that what this guy is about is, me, me, me and he does,nt care a damn about who is elected or what they do as long as he can make a buck from it.

Stan... You must not

Stan...

You must not listen to him, and if you do, you don't comprehend what he is saying...or...oh no...dare I guess...you are a liberal.

Stay here long enough and you may see the light.

Don't stay on the darkside.

Join us conservatives, you'll like us.

Rev. Sharpton "Revving it up" again

Speaking of riots.....MyWay News has the story tonight: Rev. Al is going to "Shut Down NYC" to protest the acquittal of the cops in the Sean Bell shooting. (h/t Drudge)

Call your "Renta-a-Mob", Al!

Wanna bet there's a civil suit coming?

No justice, no peace!! And guess who decides when there's "justice"?

Yeah mb... I heard about

Yeah mb...

I heard about this early this morning, they were saying lat night on the news somewhere that he was planning this yesterday...take it to the streets...

Just like Limbaugh was talking about him saying about Obama not getting the nomination, even though he didn't say Obama's name at the time, everyone knew what he meant....

Glad to see Sharpton's effort was for zilch.

"Never murder your opponent when he is committing suicide." ~ W. Churchill

Rush

My Goodness!  Rush has really got your tidy-whiteys in a twist.  I know how maddening it must be for you to hear him spouting off opinions that differ from yours, but until the fairness doctrine is instituted, the best thing for you to do is just change the radio station.  Once you do this, you will notice that big vein in your forehead will immediately go back to normal, and your blood pressure will return to a safe level. Ha-Ha-Ha

The Denver Post's in CYA mode

This is just a preemptive strike on the part of the Post because if riots do occur they can use Limbaugh as a scapegoat for their shoddy investigative reporting on the organizations responsible for them.

This is, after all, how the liberal media works and their version of CYA.

Recreate

If it means the Tigers winning the world series, by all means....,

It boils my blood that these

It boils my blood that these commie-pinko Bast@#$s are trying come to an "arrangement" with the police visa-vi arresting their sorry asses. The whole point of permits etc to protest, is so that no one is arrested. These scum are planning to break the law. Denver should revoke the permits. They are nothing but a lunatic fringe bunch of fascist. They get enough of a mob together to create a riot. They are NOT patriots. They are the enemy and would have everyone in re-education camps if they had their way.

Denver Post best for lining bird cages

I've turned away free copies when offered. This Re-create '68 thing has been mentioned in the TV media quite a bit along with many who argue that not enough protest permits were issued. Many are planning on protesting in a city park during the convention, but what cracks me up about these protestors, is that they're anti-GOP. Why do they want to make a scene at the convention that is supposed to emulate their beliefs? I say let them go at it. They'll look the fool, should be entertaining. Although if I didn't have to worry about my youngest being in school, I might would head out of town during the DNC.

Yep, all of the talking

Yep, all of the talking heads who love to inject Rush's name on their shows about this conveniently leave out the Sharpton remarks, and most of all the Recreate 68 issue...it is maddening in one way...but on the other hand watching the dems devour each other because of their own suicidal tendencies is more fun than a barrel of monkeys.

The Denver Post is typical of the majority of the print papers... eventually they may have problems like this down the road...these fire-starters called papers aren't worth the trees fallen for their leftist agenda driven tripe.

Thank goodness for the internet...thank goodness for Rush...Operation Chaos continues....hehehee

"Never murder your opponent when he is committing suicide." ~ W. Churchill

Captain Chaos

No doubt the loony left, who so love Rush, will goose step to his orders and riot.

Do we live in bizzaro world? We want peace or we'll blow you up!

What ever happens

The people watching will know who they are ... The drive bys can do all they want trying to say who stirred it up, but in the end, a picture will be worth all the ink spilled.
