Perhaps nothing better illustrates the mental divide between left and right in this country than the starkly different reactions to the Newsweek blogs of new columnists, Markos Moulitsas and Karl Rove. The articles they wrote for Newsweek have already been covered in depth by Noel Sheppard which you can read here and here. It is the reactions to each of these columnists that are quite fascinating to read. In the case of Markos Moulitsas, the reactions from conservatives in the comments section were rather low key and primarily took the form of expressing policy differences. At the worst a few commenters were irritated because they were still under the misimpression that Markos was not being balanced out by a conservative:
It takes quite an imagination or boat-load of wishful thinking to mistake the publics impatience with a lengthly -- and until recently mismanaged -- war for a validation of the Democrat party. The record low popularity numbers of the current Democrat Congress are evidence enough of this.
As much as he claims to know about politics, you'd think Markos might want to focus Dems on running against the Republican candidate, not the lame-duck President.
If you read this carefully you might find a little liberal bias from the writer. what ever happend to fair and balanced reporting in my opnion thies it tantamount to libel.
The latter comment from a reader still not informed that Moulitsas would be balanced out by Karl Rove. However, there were a few over the edge comments in this section but it turns out they were posted by liberals, not conservatives:
Does anyone know about the PNAC? Bush is a puppet! Cheney, Rumsfeld, Jeb Bush, Dan Quayle, wolfowitz, Perl? etc. they are the ones who run the country. Not a person. Bush runs the country no more than I do. He just has more power. Power corrupts. He is corrupt. Read, rebuilding ammericas defenses and search for "Pearl Harbor". They wanted 9/11. Bush got the memo and ignored it. Al Quaida was going to attack and he did nothing.
Contrast these comments with the drama queen negative reactions to Rove's article which sound as if they had they had been posted from inside some Anger Management asylum ward:
Bush is undoubtedly the worst President in history and anyone who supports him should be charged with accessory to mass murder.
I have been a long time Newsweek subscriber - I cannot believe that this magazine is now stooping to include Karl Rove as a columnist after all he has done to destroy the values once associated with the United States of America. Rove should be in jail, not included as a columnist in Newsweek.
Rove is a fat pig at the corporate Republican trough. This trough overflowing with swill of corruption and greed, lies and deceipt, human suffering and murder is consumed by Rove and the rest of the sanctimonious Republican Neo Con Party. The pigs at this farm just don't eat the swill they bathe in it. Then while their mouths are still full of the blood money they talk about terrorism, religion and Christ. When they are caught out in their depraved sex acts they say it was the alcohol and now Jesus has helped them to see the light - but they go back to the same life! One thing I know is that every fat pig has his day before he's slaughtered by the farmers knife.
A big theme among the "tolerant" liberals is their cancellation of subscriptions to Newsweek due to the mere appearance of Rove as a columnist. Judging from the number of people who supposedly have subcriptions that they want cancelled, you would figure Newsweek to be the largest circulation magazine in the world:
I am strongly considering cancelling my subscription to Newsweek. How dare you give this scum a forum to spew his vile nonsense.
Karl Rove, Newsweek? What are you thinking? When my subscription runs out, and at this point I wish it were today, I will not be subscribing again. I don???t need Karl Rove. You don???t need Karl Rove. No one needs Karl Rove.
Why the heII is Newsweek giving this war criminal liar a column? Absolutely disgusting, Newsweek! I'm canceling my subscription too!
What's really fascinating about these deranged postings in reaction to Rove is that they are appearing on a site read by the general public in contrast to the confines of the leftwing blogs where such rantings are commonplace. So what might give the public the best insight into the state of politics in the USA might not be what either Markos Moulitsas or Karl Rove write in their Newsweek columns but the stark contrast in the reactions of the left and right to those columns.

Rove Derangement Syndrome
November 20, 2007 - 09:51 ET by NoMoreClintonsPJ,
You forgot the one deranged moonbat who wished Rove would soon die a horrible death - but maybe it was removed by the time you got there. Nice, huh?

Liberalism
November 20, 2007 - 09:52 ET by allanfLiberalism is a dogma, a religion. It is not guided by rational thought.
"A Liberal is someone who feels a great debt to his fellow man, which he proposes to pay with your money".
Encouraged by the Left
November 20, 2007 - 10:15 ET by ThisnThatAllanf, I also believe that it's precisely these types of reactions that have been cultivated by this country's leftist leaders. These are typical of the rabal-rousing emotion-laden followers that leftists like to attract. Loud, angry, and deranged.

lol that says it all.I am glad to see folks from the left warming up to Karl.
EXACTLY...
November 20, 2007 - 10:56 ET by danybhoyallanf, this is why liberals/progressives try to live in theory rather then in reality. That means we get people who try to rule on the basis of what makes said liberals/progressives feel good, rather then what would be good.
Why have a long term solution when you can have a quick fix? The problem is ALWAYS more important then the solution, it means the issue never goes away & must be dealt with. Kos & his ilk are all about this. They are also no students of history, the socialist utopias they sight as better then us suck when compared to the American way of doing things.

November 20, 2007 - 10:07 ET by soosanthis does just what you said - it uncovers the anger from the left that's directed at anything relating to President Bush. Thanks
First of all, consider the source
November 20, 2007 - 10:13 ET by JayTeeJust who in America has an Ego that requires them to write Newsweek ? Expecting to have influence, believing their opinions count more than the normal person who really doesn't take time from their busy day to write Magazines, and who really don't have the violent reaction to Newsweek, or any other magazine, such that they are forced to send in a scathing letter.
Who are these un-masked Bush haters ? It's pretty chilling to know these people on the edge of "Hate Crimes" are living among us, and can't handle minor political setbacks, and can't write a letter without words like "Fat pig" , vile, Slaughter, etc...and he was probably "holding back" as he wrote the letter.
MSM and the news print has to take Responsibility for Whom they create with their slanted coverage, and realize who they really reach and convert with their constant propaganda.
MSM, Don't feed the Trolls......they will start writing you letters, asking for better food.

Rove is a Republican
November 20, 2007 - 10:31 ET by sixgunRove is a Republican campaign manager and the President's advisor. Can you imagine the moonbats reactions if a true conservative were to write? Open the asylum doors and get out the sedatives!
Shocked!
November 20, 2007 - 11:37 ET by iveseenitallI'm shocked! The "liberals" I've known all my long life are such nice people. So tolerant, peaceful, fair-minded and logical, they love everyone, even animals. I've never heard them utter a harsh word. They simply despise everthing I stand for, and hate at least one half of the American population. What's wrong with that?
NEVER,NEVER trust a "liberal"
Markos is an extreme
November 20, 2007 - 10:58 ET by zfMarkos is an extreme foaming-at-the-mouth moonbat and gets milder rebukes.
Karl Rove is a more low-key and moderate individual and *much* less of an ideologue and gets extreme hate.
Another nail in the "liberals are tolerant, conservatives are mean" fantasy.
P.S. Not that conservatives shouldn't have been more hostile to Markos Polo (they should have been) but it is what it is.
Conservatives don't have
November 20, 2007 - 11:02 ET by sunandsteelConservatives don't have anything to gain by being overly hostile to Kos. I mean like lefty-moonbat hostile. Hit them with cold facts, all they have is screaming and name calling. Its too bad there is a decent sized segment that cant or wont see these loons for what they are.

here's a hostile comment
November 20, 2007 - 11:03 ET by sarcasmoMarkos didn't once talk about the size of government, only its "effectiveness" -- whatever that is. At least Rove mentioned the spending problem in his column (but coming from him, it's more-than-a-little-ironic!).

okay
November 20, 2007 - 11:33 ET by candanceWhat does any of that stuff have to do with 2008? Sounds like they're just angry about whatever so they want Newsweek to know about it.
I don't agree with everything Bush does, but to say he's the worst president in history is some exaggeration. It might help some of these folks to read a history book some time.

Know Nothings
November 20, 2007 - 11:46 ET by NoMoreClintonsI suspect that a fairly large segment of these lefties is composed of 20-something know-it-alls who have only ever known a Bush or Clinton presidency. They have no idea of the incompetency of Jimmah's 4 years.
Or how extremely over-rated
November 20, 2007 - 12:01 ET by mattmOr how extremely over-rated the Clinton years were. After all, by the time BJ left office the economy was in a tail-spin, our national defense was weakened (ergo 9-11), and Americas reputation was stained on a blue dress.
Fortunately, thanks to a GOP congress for 6 of Clinton's 8 years, they never got Hillary-healthcare nor did they get all the tax increases they wanted. Plus the spending caps implemented as part of G. H.W. Bush's tax compromise of 1990 caused the deficit to come down.
In fact, the only positive things that happened in the 90's were the result of Republican intitatives. None of them were Clinton accomplishments - other than the Oslo accord (which was broken by Terr-arafat day it was signed)....
The only things Bill was successful at was one tax increase, starting a couple more worthless bureaucracies, and scoring chicks.
Karl Rove - Conservative?
November 20, 2007 - 11:42 ET by zeestephenWhen did we decide Karl Rove is a Conservative?
Off the top of my head.....
(1) Amnesty for illegal aliens and personal attacks on Republicans who opposed it
(2) Harriet Miers nomination and personal attacks on Republicans who opposed it
(3) The trillion dollar Medicare drug benefit
(4) No Child Left Behind
(5) The largest percentage Budget Growth in American history
Karl Rove is a Big Government, Centrist Republican.

November 20, 2007 - 17:40 ET by Dan The Man 2Candace, I dont know if you have the sarcasm button on but if the GOP puts forth any pro abortion canditates or social liberals they can kiss my vote bye bye. And I usually vote straight ticket with few exceptions, partly because Im lazy and party because I don't believe in letting any Democrats in office because they can grow into other offices and even become President.

November 20, 2007 - 13:25 ET by nythatesusaI hope none of the people cancelling their Newsweek subscriptions because they can't stand Karl Rove were among those saying that it somehow violated The Dixie Chicks First Amendment rights if you declined to buy their music and/or go to their concerts after their ashamed-that-President-Bush-is-from-Texas statement. Maybe Rove should start a band.

November 20, 2007 - 15:01 ET by candanceIt's okay for them to show up at the CMA awards wearing shirts that say FUTK (aimed at Toby Keith) to the point they annoyed him into leaving the ceremony. But it's not okay for Newsweek to contract op-ed pieces from a Republican.
Rove has been in politics for decades and successfully run nationwide campaigns. Mr. Moulitsas started up a website. Maybe libs are angry because "their side" isn't qualified to give campaign advice on how to win.
