It has been less than a day since Tropical Storm Dean has developed into a hurricane and already global warming is being mentioned in a news story about this weather development. Credit for the first known citing of global warming in a Hurricane Dean story goes to The Daily Green. Correspondent Chris Mooney starts out by giving his story, Nothing But Land to Stop Hurricane Dean … or Supertyphoon Sepat, an authentic all caps touch with this weather advisory from the National Hurricane Center:
BASED ON WHAT WE THINK WE KNOW ABOUT INTENSITY CHANGE … THERE DO NOT SEEM TO BE TOO MANY INHIBITING FACTORS TO A FUTURE INTENSIFICATION OF DEAN. GLOBAL MODELS UNANIMOUSLY DEVELOP A LARGE UPPER-LEVEL ANTICYCLONE NEAR THE CENTER OF THE HURRICANE AS THE SYSTEM TRAVELS INTO THE CARIBBEAN SEA. IN COMBINATION WITH VERY DEEP WARM WATERS … THIS PATTERN WOULD FAVOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF A POWERFUL HURRICANE.
From this promising beginning, Mooney quickly descends into the global warming blame game:
Very few hurricanes achieve their maximum potential intensity, but some do. For this reason, maximum potential intensity theory is a leading reason for believing that global warming should cause the average hurricane to strengthen. Climate change is expected to increase the maximum potential intensity, period. And if it does so, then those storms that achieve their maximum potential will be achieving a higher one than before. By these lights, as global warming sets in we ought to see hurricane intensity records breaking across the globe...
Growing up in South Florida, I used to enjoy tracking hurricanes on maps provided for that purpose by the Miami Herald. However, my interest has changed in recent years. I now prefer to track how many reporters cite global warming whenever new hurricanes develop. So far, Chris Mooney is the first reporter tracked citing global warming in a news story about Hurricane Dean. I have every confidence many more reporters will follow in Mooney's footsteps as Hurricane Dean continues to develop. Global warming hurricane reporter tracking maps will be provided exclusively here on NewsBusters.

Beg to differ, but we had a kind of exciting one in '92 called Andrew.
We are beginning to have fun now. I've had my TV off for two days because I can't stand to hear the hype. Hurricane Dean is 600 miles east of nowhere and you'd think the sky is falling.
You know...if it bleeds, it leads.

August 16, 2007 - 19:19 ET by Blondedrill,
A Katrina story for you. The day of Katrina's first landfall....it was headed in at 26.2 degrees north all day (Broward/Palm Beach line)....the particular latitude of my home & workplace. I didn't leave work until 4:30 p.m. (d'oh, that was a dumba$$ thing to do, I scared myself silly driving home with tree branches flying around). It made landfall at 6:30 p.m. and had veered south to the Dade/Broward line.
As for Lord Nagan, he needs his peeps back. I visit Houston frequently, and his peeps are still there, panhandling. I know, one of them hit me up for money leaving the office the last time I was there. The Houstonians I know are rather fed up with it.

Katrina Landfall
August 16, 2007 - 19:30 ET by P.J. GladnickI have a FUnnie Katrina story. On the day it made landfall in South Florida, a friend of mine orignally from India, Lala, called me around 2 P.M. to requst that I drive down to his house in Homestead. When I told Lala that a hurricane was approaching he told me not to worry and that what he had to tell me was so important that it was worth risking a drive in hurricane force winds. I asked Lala to tell me what he needed to say on the phone but he told me it was too important for that and could only be told to me personally. For about a half hour I was on the phone arguing with Lala that there was NO WAY I was going to go out driving in the middle of a Hurricane.
To make a long story short, Katrina veered south and flooded out Lala's house in Homestead. As to his "important" story. I visited him weeks later and was astounded at how trivial it was. Of course, that was typical Lala. You sort of have to know him to understand the guy's eccentricities. Still, him expecting me to drive in the middle of a hurricane just to hear something incredibly trivial from him was really bizarre. Actually his trivial story was pretty bizarre and don't have the room to tell about that here.

Something else about Katrina (before I had my generator!).....my power was off for quite a few days....so no TV (and it was bloody HOT!). When I finally saw the news, Katrina was a MONSTER storm and I couldn't believe those idiots in New Orleans were doing the ostrich immitation. Nagan should have been strung up for the lack of preparation.

I worked for the state. And after Andrew had his way with you guys in Florida, was in the gulf. I was getting predictions of hurricane force winds by 8 the next morning. I didn't wait and took the precautions I deemed necessary. I was then called my the state and asked who gave me the authority.
However, there was justice. Andrew went around me and hit the people who accused me of jumping the gun. And did they whine.

Narlinians in Houston
August 16, 2007 - 19:51 ET by RiharI live in Houston and a family moved into a renter house down the street right after it hit. We went over, said "hi" and my family mowed their lawn because they (for obvious reasons) didn't have a lawn mower. They were a really nice family. However the part of town where I grew up got hit with the types who "didn't know pot was illegal" yes, that's an actual quote from a New Orleans transplant.
Most of the NO'ers I've encountered are nice enough but I can see why others have really been getting on people's nerves. I didn't mind the influx as a whole but what bugged me the most was the "Vote Nagin" billboards in Houston during election season. Other billboards referred to how to "take back our home". Um... New Orelans is about six hours away from Houston.

1900 Galveston Hurricane
August 16, 2007 - 19:11 ET by P.J. GladnickSpeaking of the Galveston Hurricane, I highly recommend the book, Issac's Storm. It was also featured on the History Channel. One reason that the people of Galveston were totally unprepared for that hurricane is that the Weather Bureau back then decreed that it was impossible for a hurricane to continue on a northerly track in the Gulf of Mexico. When they received reports of a possible hurricane heading north, they said such reports MUST be wrong since it is a known "fact" that hurricanes in the Gulf must veer towards the East once entering that body of water. Somehow that hurricane didn't abide by a government decree.

Apologize To The Greens, Everyone
August 16, 2007 - 21:23 ET by JoelCTI am very sorry everyone, but it is time for all of us to hang our heads in shame and apologize to the Global Warming people. I did some deep research just now, and I discovered the awful truth:
Galveston, TX on September 8, 1900 - estimated 200 mph winds (Prescott Sheldon Bush born May 15, 1895)
The Labor Day Hurricane, FL Keys, September 2, 1935, Category 5, 200 mph (George Herbert Walker Bush born 06/12/1924)
Hurricane Camille, MS, August 17, 1969, Category 5, 909 mb, Approaching 190 mph (George Herbert Walker Bush in House of Representatives)
Hurricane Andrew, FL, August 24, 1992, Category 5, 165 mph (George Herbert Walker Bush President)
Hurricane Charley, FL, August 13, 2004, Category 4, 150 mph (George Walker Bush President)
Hurricane Katrina, MS/LA, August 25th,2005, Category 3, 125 mph (George Walker Bush President)
Do you understand what this means? For every major hurricane of this century, there was a BUSH around, and usually involved in government. Whether it was our President, his father, or his grandfather, the greenies are correct: IT'S ALL BUSH'S FAULT!!!

Floirda hurricane projections from the Hurricane Center originally were set at 17 named storms and 9 of them becoming hurricanes. New projection is 15 and 8.
Our hurricane season runs from June 1st to Nov 30 - 26 weeks. We've gone thru 11 weeks (about 40%) and "0" storms have hit us, and "0" hurricanes.
So much for warm and simultaneous cool zones of ocean currents impacted by by GW and increasing our chances of an increased # of hurricanes. We'll need one named storm each week (except 1) of the remaining 16 weeks and of our hurricane season and 8 hurricanes to catch up.
So I guess we'll see a revised "projection", soon.

Please suggest one good question I can teach my kids to ask their teacher(s) that clearly frames up the absurdity of the global warming alarmist when the teacher either makes the class watch An Inconvenient Truth or when the teacher starts the psycho babble that man is causing global warming. Please submit your suggested questions. Thanks in advance.

South Park
August 16, 2007 - 22:27 ET by P.J. GladnickI don't know about questions but perhaps your kids and their teacher could watch the Global Warming South Park episode which hilariously put the Global Warming hysteria in perspective. I believe all the South Park episodes are available on the Web.
TruthMatters, get them the Hell out of government school.
August 16, 2007 - 22:43 ET by Dave RI shant propose an intelligent question for the government agents, oops, I meant, government teachers who are indoctrinating, oops, I meant, educating your children. However, I will suggest one possible course of action, if you really love your children:
Get them the Hell out of government school.
Will we also get to
August 17, 2007 - 09:19 ET by danboWill we also get to see one of the good skeptic tapes out there? So we'll get to hear both sides of the issue. Or will we only allowed to hear one side?

Your son/daughter can ask
August 17, 2007 - 10:14 ET by Sick-n-TiredYour son/daughter can ask one question/make a statement that is composed of two words:
"Prove it!"
Slam dunk, the teacher will have no response, and if they do it will be filled full of lies. Have print outs of data, journal papers etc. that your kids can then take in the next day and prove the opposite to their teacher.
AGW questions?
August 17, 2007 - 10:22 ET by LionKingWhat caused the global warming that ended the first ice age and how do we know that those same factors are not in play now? Furthermore, what effect does the Sun have on global warming and how does man effect the Sun?
What about Neptune and Venus temp increase?
August 17, 2007 - 12:00 ET by SouthJersey1953"If global warming is caused by human activity, why are Neptune and Venus temperatures increasing at about the same rate as Earth?"
That should shut the teacher up!

No doubt the teacher would
August 17, 2007 - 12:04 ET by Free StinkerNo doubt the teacher would blame the NASA probes we sent to these planets . . .
Questions To Ask The Teacher
August 18, 2007 - 10:50 ET by JoelCTQuestions concerning Global Warming:
1) Most scientists agree the average temperature of the Earth as a whole has risen .7 C since 1900. How do we know that the temperature in the 1800's wasn't .7 C colder than normal and the Earth has corrected itself?
-Which leads to question 2) How do 'they' know the correct temperature of the Earth, so that they can say it is getting colder or warmer than the 'correct' temperature?
3) One volcano eruption puts out more greenhouse gases its first day than all the SUVs, that have ever been built, have ever put out in history. You have to have a pretty big ego to believe we puny humans can actually have a .7 C impact on this planet. Is this what you believe, that it is all caused by human activity?
4) So far, not one scientist has proven any link between human activity and the .7 C rise in temperature of the Earth. At the same time, other possibilities have been presented that are equally theoretical, such as Earth's own warming and cooling cycles, solar impact, and even cosmic ray depletion. Why do you choose to pick this one unproven theory over any of the others?
5) There is proof that Greenland was originally called "Greenland" because it was green. We have even found proof of vineyards grown there. What caused the warming of Greenland 1,000 years ago? How is it different from today?
I've got plenty more that can be asked, but your child will probably be sent to the principal's office for insubordination after the first couple of questions. ;)
If our "news reporters" weren't just brain-dead robots regurgitating information they believe to be true, these are the kind of questions they would be asking Al Gore and his followers.
Causes & Effects of Global Wamring
August 17, 2007 - 00:00 ET by tarunkjuyalI am a regular reader of your article. And I am very impress with your blog upon Global Warming. Now I am also write a blog upon effects and causes of Global Warming. This blog is collection of news & reviews like the study found that global warming since 1985 has been caused neither by an increase in solar radiation nor by a decrease in the flux of galactic cosmic rays. Some researchers had also suggested that the latter might influence global warming because the rays trigger cloud formation.
