Coulter: 'You Really Wonder If Democrats Would Win Any Elections If We Had An Honest Media In This Country'

"You really wonder if Democrats would win any elections if we had an honest media in this country."

So marvelously stated conservative author Ann Coulter on CNBC's Kudlow Report Thursday (video follows with transcript and commentary):

Host Lawrence Kudlow began the segment by talking about Defense Secretary Leon Panetta’s testimony on Capitol Hill Thursday about President Obama not being around when our consulate was attacked in Benghazi, Libya, last September.

Kudlow then mentioned news reports on Thursday that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton also seemed to be unavailable during the seven hours of the attack.

“So Panetta didn’t talk to the President,” Kudlow said. “Panetta didn’t talk to Hillary Clinton. I don’t know who he talked to. All I know is nobody saved the four people, we didn’t see any American force. What’s up with that?”

Coulter responded:

ANN COULTER: And it’s long after the presidential election has run. I mean, you really wonder if Democrats would win any elections if we had an honest media in this country. This is really getting to be a problem. As [former Democratic pollster] Pat Caddell says, the media is becoming a threat to democracy.

The things that they went crazy over when Bush was president.

I mean, remember that video at the White House Correspondents’ dinner? We of course found weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, but they were not the stockpiles of mass destruction. And he had a little video of, I don’t know, like a dog looking for the weapons of mass destruction under the White House furniture. It was a silly little video, and you would think someone died.

Well here, in this case, under Obama, four people did die and this is coming out, what, five months after it happened, four months after the election? What is with our media?

Well, I've claimed for years that if the media had been honest about the state of the economy in 1992, George H.W. Bush would have easily won re-election.

In 2008, if Obama had been properly vetted, Hillary Clinton would have easily defeated him in the primaries, likely by February's Super Tuesday.

And, if the real causes of 2008's financial collapse had been reported - in particular, the Financial Services Modernization Act of 1999 signed into law by Bill Clinton, the Commodity Futures Modernization Act of 2000 also signed into law by Bill Clinton, and the easing of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac loan qualifications as a result of pressure by the Clinton administration - it's questionable that Hillary would have beaten McCain.

As such, Coulter had an excellent point.

No surprise there.
