Anderson Cooper: 'How Does Dick Morris Still Have a Job?'
CNN's Anderson Cooper asked a question on CBS's Late Show Friday that some might consider a bit indelicate.
"How does Dick Morris still have a job?" (video follows with transcript and commentary):
DAVID LETTERMAN, HOST: And they got people, it was the strategy: “Let's pretend we're winning and try to suppress the voters.” And that didn't work. That just angered people that were trying to get there.
ANDERSON COOPER: How does Dick Morris still have a job? That’s what I don’t understand.
LETTERMAN: I don't get that at all. I thought he was President Clinton's guy.
COOPER: He at one point had been. Yeah. And then he, you know, made a turn I guess. But, yeah, and he doesn't have a great track record on predicting stuff. I mean, he’s gotten it wrong…
LETTERMAN: Well he was shooting his mouth off there.
COOPER: Right, I mean, right, you played the tape. I mean, everything he predicted was pretty much the opposite.
Certainly, Morris's prediction of a Mitt Romney landslide was quite wrong.
However, should every pollster and commentator that got Tuesday's result wrong be fired?
That would include conservatives Michael Barone and George Will.
Makes you wonder if Cooper would support such terminations if Romney had won and it was liberal pollsters such as Nate Silver that had egg on their face.
Seems a metaphysical certitude he wouldn't be as hard on them.
