ABC’s Terry Moran Caught Laughing As Obama Surrogate Trashes Mitt Romney

By Noel Sheppard | July 08, 2012 | 15:15

Noel Sheppard's picture

ABC’s Terry Moran was caught on-screen Sunday laughing as Barack Obama surrogate Martin O’Malley (D-Md.) bashed presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney.

When the Nightline host filling in for This Week’s vacationing George Stephanopoulos realized he was on camera, he tempered his glee and put on a more serious face (video follows with transcript and commentary):

TERRY MORAN, SUBSTITUTE HOST: And Governor O'Malley, one of the tough things for the president, as Governor Jindal points out, is that he made promises, so he's had to come before the American people and explain what went wrong. Republicans are having a field day with this. Here's Karl Rove's group, Crossroads GPS, an ad that they have put together with some of those statements. Take a look.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

(UNKNOWN): America's jobless rate is still too high. Barack Obama's got lots of excuses for the bad economy.

OBAMA: Headwinds coming from Europe. We've had a string of bad luck. An earthquake in Japan, an Arab spring. An ATM, you don't go to a bank teller. Some things that we could not control. You go to the airport, and you're using a kiosk. We've been a little bit lazy, I think, over the last couple of decades.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

MORAN: You know, Governor O'Malley, obviously, that's political ad, but doesn't Barack Obama own this economy?

GOVERNOR MARTIN O'MALLEY (D-MARYLAND): Well, I think what he owns is the leadership of our country forward. What he owns is the responsibility to do everything in his power to dig us out of the hole that we found ourselves in.

And, look, President Obama is not running against the almighty. He is running against the alternative. And the alternative in this case is Governor Mitt Romney, who had the 47th worst job creation rate as governor and also has a -- a penchant, a talent for offshoring American jobs, sending them overseas, and also maintaining offshore bank accounts in Bermuda, Swiss bank accounts. And so the question he'll have to answer, Terry, is what is his alternative?

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

In the middle of the following sentence, the screen switched to a split-shot with Moran on the left laughing and smiling:

O’MALLEY: I've never known of a Swiss bank account to build an American bridge, a Swiss bank account to create American jobs, or Swiss bank accounts to rebuild the levees to protect the people of New Orleans. That's not an economic strategy for moving our country forward.

MORAN: All right. Just for the record, I did ask you about President Obama and you ended up attacking Mitt Romney. We...

O'MALLEY: Because this is a choice.

Honestly, if Moran is going to fill in when normal host George Stephanopolous has a day off, maybe he should do a better job of hiding his glee as the presumptive Republican presidential nominee is being attacked by an Obama surrogate.

Or is that asking too much?

not so sure

I saw this and I thought Moran was mocking O'Malley for not directly responding to his question, but instead making that stupid comment about swiss bank accounts. The liberal media does, on occasion, mock a liberal.

I've never known of Obama rebuilding levees in NOLA, either . .

Submitted by Gary Hall on Sun, 07/08/2012 - 3:36pm.

O’MALLEY: I've never known of a Swiss bank account . . .t to create American jobs, or Swiss bank accounts to rebuild the levees to protect the people of New Orleans.

I've never known of Obama rebuilding levees, etc, in NOLA, either . .

During the Bush years way north of $100 billion was spent in improvements - repairs. Numerous major flood control infrastructure was designed, funded and built.

All I've heard is that during Obama's term . . he's pretty much ignored them.

Reminds me of the Clinton years -- all that money then and all the warnings, and they did nothing.

Reminds me of the CNN report aired in Aug., 2002. Revisiting the progress in Homestead, FL. 10 years after Hurricane Andrew hit:

CAROL LIN (CNN Anchor): John, when you say the recovery is continuing, what could be possibly be happening 10 years later?

JOHN ZARRELLA: Well, you know, the area has not completely recovered. There are places here in Homestead, or in South Dade County, that are literally the same as they were left after Hurricane Andrew. And some places are worse off. Naranja (ph), an unincorporated area not far from here, the poverty rate was 18 percent when it hit, it is 50 percent today. Some areas affected even worse now than they were 10 years ago.

Through 8 whole years of the Clinton administration - that's the best they could do?

When interviewing lib politicians, lib journalists turn off their brains and don't even try to act like journalists. If that had been a Republican attacking Obama, Moron would have been planning his attack, not laughing.

Looks like to me if Moran is amused about anything on-air,

Submitted by Jer on Sun, 07/08/2012 - 3:55pm.

it's O'Malley's dodging his question--which Moran proceeds to point out.

There's nothing humorous about O'Malley's bland recitation of campaign talking points. The notion that Moran is gleefully laughing about Romney being trashed is a serious stretch.

Matthews was under the desk tickling Moran's feet.

But, if you watch the video and consider the fact that Moran was putting O'Malley on the hotseat with uncomfortable questions, the "Moran was laughing" at O'Malley's Romney-bashing theory holds very little water.

Shooting down a potential Convention competitor??

Submitted by SeniorD on Sun, 07/08/2012 - 3:59pm.

Martin O'Malley is making Big Noise for the Demodonks. He may attempt a Convention coup or keep his powder dry to run against HERSELF! in 2016. Whatever the case, putting him on the same show as the ever-hapless DWS says something about his stature within The Party.

“I can imagine no more rewarding a career. And any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction: 'I served in the United States Navy.'" John F. Kennedy

OMG, Romney has his own money in a Swiss bank account!!!!? So tell me, what's American taxpayer money doing in Kenya, Pakistan, Brazil, Mexico, Egypt, Finland, Spain,......Is THAT how you build levees,, bridges, and jobs in America, douche?

Apparantly our taxpayer money

Submitted by killa37 on Sun, 07/08/2012 - 6:25pm.

Apparantly our taxpayer money (as well as the borrowed money and the printed money) is also all over the moooooooooslem world, rebuilding mosques and outfitting them with modern technology, and who knows what else??

And we're supposed to blame Romney for trying to keep MORE of his hard-earned money??? Isn't that the 'American dream'??
Oh, I forgot, the American dream is EVIL, UNFAIR, UNJUST, and IMMORAL!!!

So where does Dracula Soros keep HIS money - he makes Romney look like a street hobo, when it comes to 'wealth'.

Maybe it's just us small cadre of conservatives who notice (I hope not)..but the left has fallen upon a seriously hilarious habit of narrative fails. Obama castigates Romney for 'doin' stuff' with his own money while he blows ours. Then they try the 'job destroyer' meme, the 'look at his extravagant vacation' fail, the 'dog-eating is not as bad as taking one for a ride on your car' fail, the 'what do we know about Romney really?'...Really, MSM?...really?....and the list goes on. Desperation....not a good look, but worth some chuckles from my side.

I'll be chucklin' (Obamaspeak) when the worthless piece of Kenyan Kow Krap Kommy Kreep is gone, but until then, I'm not countin' my eggs - or whatever the damn saying is!!! There are still WAY TOO MANY stupid, apathetic, uninformed, misinformed, and just plain old Kool-Aid Drinking voters and followers of King Baraka - and that includes most of the StateRun Media - who I STILL can't believe are so dumb as to think they have any credibility with anyone beyond themselves. I mean - the guy got elected!!! That should tell us something!!! And he's spent his time in office stacking the deck in any way possible to ensure his re-selection, and you KNOW the guy isn't going to just crawl back into the hole that he came from either, even if we drive him into it.................he's probably got an arsenal of poisonous gasses to shoot at us before he disappears.

Submitted by misterbee241 on Sun, 07/08/2012 - 5:52pm.

Was the one last week who said he was going to put his [jack]boot up the butts of the Pepco linesmen. They weren't working fast enough for the kleptocrat governor of the People's Democratic Republic of Maryland. Of course they had only been working nonstop to restore power from the Obamadrecho. But he was going to show these lazy peon no good prols who the boss is.
The governor of Virginia on the other hand offered his office's help to Dominion Power. We have electricity. Parts of Maryland are STILL dark.

If you're not getting flak, you're not over the target.

I can sympathize with you,

Submitted by killa37 on Mon, 07/09/2012 - 12:02pm.

I can sympathize with you, misterbee, because we have that sawed-off cretin Neil Uber-Commie over here as Governor of Asia/Hawaii - the 57th state. And, as you may well know, Uber-Commie was a friend of Boy Baraka's parents, as well as Franklin Davis, and the only Commie/Hippie/'Haole' (white person) to ever serve as long as he has in the state political scene - so you KNOW he has cut a few deals with the power brokers along the way!!! Chicago has nothing on Hawaii when it comes to this kind of thing.

And what's with these psuedo-tough guys like Boy Baraka and O'Malley - talking about 'kicking someone's ass', or 'putting their boots on the throats', or 'putting their boots up somebody's butt'??? This guy O'Malley looks and sounds as tedious and as wimpy as Boy Baraka.

and he repeatedly showed a clip of Clinton and a fellow Liberal laughing and walking away from some "sad" occasion, when Clinton spied a camera and on a dime, stopped laughing and showed his "sad" face. Meanwhile, the other guy didn't realize the camera was recording and he continued with his laughing. The obvious conclusion: Clinton is a phoney and Moran, just like Clinton's Liberal friend, is a fool.
