Romney-Trashing Reporter Joe Williams Done at Politico
Politico announced Saturday that recently suspended Romney-trashing White House correspondent Joe Williams is leaving the organization.
The following statement was released moments ago:
"After some cordial discussions, Joe Williams and I mutually decided that the best step for him is to begin a transition to the next phase of his career," POLITICO editor-in-chief John Harris wrote in a memo to staff, sent early Saturday morning. "Joe is an experienced and respected journalist, with keen insights into politics. After nearly 30 years in the business, he has the authority and is ready to give voice to his insights and conclusions in a new setting."
"He’ll be on leave of absence during this transition, and he’s got my gratitude for the contributions he made here, both as reporter and editor. I have told Joe—and it’s a sentiment others who worked closely with him here share—that he’ll have my support as he prepares for what I expect will be a good and prominent next chapter in his career," Harris wrote.
As NewsBusters reported last Friday, Williams was suspended for amongst other things telling MSNBC's Martin Bashir that presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney was most comfortable around "white folks."
Maybe Williams will think better of making such comments in the future.
But this still raises the question of why other media outlets aren't taking similar measures against employees making the same remarks.
Such comments occur on a daily basis at MSNBC; HBO's Bill Maher does it weekly.
Why can so many in the media get away with unfounded racist accusations quite similar or even worse than what Williams just lost his job over?
Maybe every media outlet in the nation should take a cue from Politico and address the same problem they all have.

you will notice Dan Kennedy of WGBH-TV and Northeastern U. Journalism Department. This is what we are regaled with in Boston, revisionist history about someone who had the nerve to oppose the Democratic Machine in the Bay State,

What "phase" would that be, a Blogger for Current TV Online? Politico is already at the bottom of the "journalistic" hierarchy. Of course, he could get a gig at the Daily Kos.

Experienced? Respected? Mind numbing to read these words about this on-the-media-plantation nobody. The John Harris "Memo to staff" was the standard goodbye and good riddance BS. Not to worry, Williams will pop up at CNN, or MSNBC, or, perhaps, at NPR....where he would replace the departed Juan Williams as the house you-know-what. Maybe a gig at Algore TV is in his future? If the present occupant of the White House is re-elected and stays in public housing at 1600 Pennsylvania, perhaps Williams would replace the insipid Mr. Carney as press secretary? Maybe he and Ann Curry could do a morning show hosting infomercials at 2:00 AM. Don't laugh. Put nothing past the government/media complex.

In the journals of Politico, large as life,
The Ghost of Joe Williams walks, they declare.
For Joe Williams was once a famous journalist,
Until John Harris made the headsman bob Joe's hair!
Ah, yes, he did Joe wrong, long years ago
And, he comes up at night to tell him soooo!
With his head tucked underneath his arm
He walks the Cyber Tower
With his head tucked underneath his arm
At the midnight hour.
Or
Here comes a candle to light you to bed,
And here comes a chopper to chop off your head!
Chip, chop, chip, chop, the Politico journalist is dead

There is a line a hundred miles long of
ideologuesjournalists ready and waiting to take Williams's place. This reminds me of the vast Russian Army during WW I. They did not have nearly as many guns as they had men; so, when a soldier was shot another was supposed to run up to take and use his gun. Proper training and experience (so say nothing about ethics)? Not so much.

That's what I was thinking, does Politico think they are fooling anyone with this move? Such hackery is par for the course for them (and others). I'll tell you what probably happened: Williams turned his leftist racial BS on his bosses at Politico, and they discovered they don't like being the target of the same propaganda they publish for the reading public. (Sort of like the furious and dumbfounded Bill Clinton saying "They played the race card on me.")

NB Team, please take note.
And for Joe Williams, good riddance. But things might be worse than he thinks, because if one can be so dirty as to be fired by Politico, then I don't think there's any other media house that would shelter him. Not even MSNBC because he looks horrible for x talking head, but then, aren't Ed, Chris and Larry just as ugly? Joe would probably end up in NAACP or Buzzfeed. He'll fit right in in any of those.

So here's a thought for liberals. When you hire someone just don't look at their skin color. In the real world we look at qualifications, we really don't care about the color of their skin.
