James Pethokoukis Smacks Down Eleanor Clift: GOP Isn't 'Anti-Immigration' - 'That's Just Wrong'
A common media deception is to accuse Republicans of being anti-immigration.
When Newsweek's Eleanor Clift tried this on PBS's McLaughlin Group Friday, US News & World Report's James Pethokoukis quickly scolded, "They’re anti-illegal immigration. They’re not anti-immigration...That’s just wrong" (video follows with transcribed highlights and commentary):
During a discussion about President Obama's recent edict concerning young illegal immigrants not being deported, Clift said of Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, "If he’s elected president, he will be leading a party that is largely anti-immigration."
Pethokoukis pounced, "No, I think they’re anti-illegal immigration. They’re not anti-immigration. They’re not anti-immigration. That’s a talking point. They’re pro-immigration. That’s just wrong."
Yes, it is just wrong, but you can't swing a dead cat in this country without hitting a liberal media member such as Clift making this dishonest claim.
Fortunately for Friday's viewers there was a conservative on the set to correct her for all too often there isn't and the offending party gets to make his or her talking point without challenge.
This deceit has been going on for years and it's high time the media get their facts straight on this controversial issue.
Or is that asking too much?

That's why liberals don't
Submitted by rbosque on Sat, 06/23/2012 - 11:45am.
That's why liberals don't invite true conservatives on their shows. They get called out on their lies and propaganda and they know it. Eleanor is another in a long line of brain-dead libs who go on mindless rants not only because it is popular in their circle of friends but because they ostensibly get their talking points from the DNC.

Clift continues to regurgitate whatever she's overheard at Democratic cocktail parties around Washington. Same ol' tired bumper sticker slogans.
McLaughlin must keep her around because she's so predictably dumb, giving the conservative guests someone to slap around.
lies, lies and more lies

All the democrats have to throw at republicans is lies, lies and more lies. Yes Eleanor there really is a big difference between legal immigration and ILLEGAL immigration. The latter is a crime even if democrats deny that.
The real reason the democrat party is for ILLEGAL immigration is to try to STEAL elections. No one but an American citizen over age age of 18 is supposed to vote, not even legal immigrants unless they have become naturalized American citizens. ILLEGAL immigrants definitely are not allowed to vote (at least not legally).
Now Eleanor see how easy that is to understand.

Yes, I as a ex-Venezuelan patriot, who moved to the United States LEGALLY, who has now become an American Citizen....I am 100% against ILLEGAL immigration, but 100% for LEGAL immigration.
However, the Left, the Liberals, the Democratic party knows they must attempt to paint the Right as anti-immigration overall.
These idiots on the Left are constantly talking about nuances, but can't bother with them when it makes Republicans, Right-wingers, Conservatives look racist and out of touch.
Time to stand up for what is Right and make the Left lose big in Nov. 2012!!!

Don't let the liberals frame the question
Submitted by coesen on Sat, 06/23/2012 - 12:31pm.
We keep letting the liberals fram the quesion on immigration. The real issue is that the USA should know and be able to control who and what is crossing our broders. The question back to a liberal who says that conservatives are anti-immigration shold be "Do you believe the USA has the right and the obligation to control who and what is crossing our borders ?" That will serve to reframe the discussion.
Having control of our borders has to come first. Then we can deal with the question of what to do with the people who are aready here illegally.
Sneaking across the border,
Submitted by needle on Sat, 06/23/2012 - 1:12pm.
Sneaking across the border, and perhaps smuggling drugs in the process, is a far cry from immigrating at Ellis Island a hundred years ago or at an international airport nowadays.
It is shameful for Liberals to equate the two, but they sure do.

challenge them whenever and where ever they do it. I did it at work, and its now frosty between me and that person. However, it's worth. Conservatives take some blame in all of this for not speaking up sooner. On the MSM outlets we have little control on who they invite. But the ones that do get invited on need to fight.

Immigration
Submitted by Unsane on Sat, 06/23/2012 - 8:08pm.
I am a huge fan of legal immigration. It's part of the reason I am here. Literally. And I'd like to bring in more immigrants to this country. Problem is, how can we do so when we have people jumping the fence to get in?
Curb/stop illegal immigration so that we can bring in more people who want to immigrate here the right way.
Not to mention, stop illegal immigration because it will put the human trafficking business on the border out of business, and save the lives of those who do want to come here.

In a word, Yes. The liberals have no basis or cogent arguments for their positions, therefore they have no option but to throw out BS talking points. They know these inane positions will be believed by some, and they hope they will become self-prepetuating.
