NYT's Frank Bruni After Obama's G20 Press Conference: 'He Doesn't Seem In Command'

By Noel Sheppard | June 19, 2012 | 22:53

Noel Sheppard's picture

The Hope and Change that media shamelessly sold to the nation in 2008 is starting to reach a point of solemn desperation.

Perfectly exemplifying this Tuesday was New York Times columnist Frank Bruni who minutes after President Obama finished his press conference at the G20 Summit in Los Cabos, Mexico, told CNN's Piers Morgan, "He doesn’t seem in command” (video follows with transcript and commentary):

Shortly after the press conference ended, Morgan played a clip from the event and said to Bruni, “He looks a little bit on edge, the President, at the moment. A little less self-assured and calm.”

“Well, right there, I mean, he looked really de-energized,” responded Bruni. “I was watching him, you know, as he stepped to the podium. One of the whole advantages of being President, of being the incumbent, is you get those settings – the flags behind you, the podium. You get the international audience.”

“And he strode out there,” Bruni continued, “and the cadence of his speech was very slowed down. There was a lot of hemming and hawing. He got the first question from the press and answered, that answer went on and on and on, and he provided this really strange tutorial on European economic dynamics, and I just, I don’t think that’s what he went to do when he went to that microphone.”

Bruni put an exclamation point on this critique adding, “He doesn’t seem in command.”

No, he doesn't.

When columnists from the New York Times start not only thinking it but also saying it on national television, this President's in trouble.

Was Obama slurring his words?  Seemed like it to me when he said "... one president at a time, one administration at a time."  His affect was softer, duller than usual.  Illness, alcohol, medication effect maybe?

Hey, after getting a ream-job

Submitted by killa37 on Wed, 06/20/2012 - 12:28am.

Hey, after getting a ream-job from Vlad the Impaler - like it or not, Putin HAS done something in his life!!! - and then bowing to the President of Mexico, and then having to be in meetings where the subject matter is WAY beyond his ability to comprehend - plus missing out on some golfing, and getting more and more bad news about his standings in the campaign................what else would you expect from him??? The guy IS a lie, a lightweight, and a phony...............and he's been skatin' (Obamaspeak) his whole life, including most of his purported 'Presidency'. Now the ice is melting, the ice-skates are givin' him blisters, and the competition is finally being noticed - and he's not the king of the rink anymore, except in his mind.

Obama's alright -- He just needs "a little blow"

Submitted by OxyCon on Wed, 06/20/2012 - 12:35am.

A "little blow" will help Obama get his arrogant swagger back. Maybe he can score some coke from one of his NBA or rapper pals he has over to the White House all the time.

Well, he WAS in Chi-town last weekend, right?? So he might've done some 'blow'...............in a couple of different definitions of the word - since that is where his 'mens - clubs' are!!! So maybe it was 'blow and blow'..............and that is why he's looking and acting so lethargic at the G-20 summit.......................on top of the fact that the guy hates to actually do any Presidential work!!!
It's a lot easier to issue decrees, fatwahs, edicts, and proclamations!!!

The media was complicit in

Submitted by Kevpot on Wed, 06/20/2012 - 3:31am.

The media was complicit in O's election and in propping him up for the last few years. Now that they are beginning to see the writing on the wall they want to walk it back. Obama loses in November and the media goes down in flames with him.

So, they will begin throwing him under the bus little by little right now, but once reality sinks in that he is losing in Nov they will dogpile on him and claim, 'see? we're objective journalists'.

Their position on him is 'evolving'. Their love for him over the last 4 years has merely been a composite of their love for all things liberal.

I told a friend - back when

Submitted by killa37 on Wed, 06/20/2012 - 3:59am.

I told a friend - back when Boy Baraka had just been coronated, and he was everybody's 'darling', with the exception of those of us who knew the 'real' story behind this poser - that the media WILL turn on him, and when they do - it will be toilet time. My mistake was thinkin' (Obamaspeak) that it would be sooner, rather than later, becuase the TROOF about this twerp hasn't changed.................but, as is predictble, the Make-It-Up-Media stayed true and faithful to their Dear Leader - perhaps because they WERE complicit in his ascension to the throne.

So now, as they are finally forced to admit that they have been ridin' a LOSER, they are lookin' for ways to get unhooked from him, so that people won't remember that they were a huge part of why the phony every got selected in the first place!!!

Unfortunatly for them, we have long memories, and we're not fooled by the same procedures and excuses and alibis that they use to fool themselves.

Bloomberg Polls

Right now (Morning Joe 6/20/12) Al Hunt is saying that Obama is 13 points ahead of Obama. How can that be?? Who are they polling?? I think the reason the media is going to pull out all stops the get this guy re-elected is so that they can continue to party at the WH. MSNBC has basically declared BO the winner.

Obama running against

Submitted by celator on Wed, 06/20/2012 - 9:27am.

Obama running against himself? Well, sure.

There's the Warrior Obama, competing with the messiah Obama who is running against the leading from behind Obama, who is challenging the redistribution Obama who is just behind the Al Green Obama who is gaining on the beer summit Obama, although tough guy Obama is catching up, and so on.

I'm selling scorecards on the many Obamas running for re-election if your're interested ;+}

MSM starting their own 'CYA' campaign

Submitted by ChrisNH on Wed, 06/20/2012 - 6:49am.

Recall, radical leftist media hacks like Bruni pushed the big-eared cigarette-smoker on us in the first place back in 2008. The 'Messiah' label came from the NYT-TIME-Newsweek-MSNBC crowd, so his failing and incoherence is THEIR failing and incoherence. The 'vetting' they should have done then is being done--albeit in small spurts--now. The end game, of course, is that if OBAMO fails, they want to be on good footing when he does.

Forward!

Still doesn't make much difference-

Submitted by uhohshortsonthe... on Wed, 06/20/2012 - 7:16am.

the liberal media will not turn on him, at least not all together. Of the few that do, most will deny they were ever blindingly supportive of him. I can only think of one prominent liberal who turned on him and now regularly lambasts him, after admitting he was wrong before to believe he was anything other than another corrupt, greedy, phony liberal Democrat professional politician. Check out Ted Rall's political cartoons-they have been getting increasingly nastier toward the President over the past three years.

Just like a gentleman would have offered some sort of support to someone with a physical ailment or show concern for anyone other than himself.  I speak of the time that he accused the cops of acting stupidly and they had that infamous beer summit where the cop (who supposedly acted stupidly) was more helpful than DuhOne was, and there's an immortalized picture of that.

I never presumed that he was a gentleman of any sort.  Hell, I never presumed he was a man of any sort, except a manCHILD.

He's not in charge, he's just along for the ride.

He thinks that he earned his spot. He is too narcissistic to see that he was placed in his spot because he could be easily controlled and manipulated..

The liberals don't get it. They think that the respect goes with the office, when in reality it has to be re-earned by the person holding the office each and every time.

This is bad~

Submitted by GG_NB on Wed, 06/20/2012 - 9:37am.

With O's approach to dealing with other world leaders/dictators, it's beyond scary what is playing out throughout the world. And yes, I think our current President's lack of sound leadership has played a role in the unraveling of several events in the world, in not stepping up at key moments or deciding unwisely. America has historically kept the world "in check" many times -- sorry if that's not PC. But we've been pretty good at helping pull dangerous directions back. Sure, it doesn't always have the impact we wish...and sometimes dealing with other country's leaders does indeed take diplomacy, but it has to be wise and backed up with strength.

When O can't magically turn things around with his tongue (and at least half the time, it seems he's either not completely on the right side or totally indecisive), then he seems to just look the other way. He gives no tough consequences, and then the wrong-doers just feel emboldened.

With Russia feeling macho and like they're in the driver's seat and ready to go pedal-to-the-metal, O has got to go as America's "leader." There are so many consequences (all bad) to America losing its leadership and being so weakened by O thinking that charm school ways will save the day. Respect (which, yes, sometimes comes from fear of consequences) is the only language some people in this world respond to -- it's the way it is.

We need a Reagan type now, seriously. O has got to be voted out for international reasons just as much for domestic reasons.

The way he talks

Submitted by jon_torlin on Wed, 06/20/2012 - 10:59am.

The way he talks and speaks and pronounces certain words (Corpse for Corps for example) as well as his ability to change accents 10 times during a SOTU, makes me strongly believe that English was either not his first language or it wasn't as much a focus as it was on Arabic as he was raised a Muslim.(he did get much better grades in Arabic studies from what I remember reading than he did on basic English classes and history, where he scored low according to one of his former classmates)

As you know, Jon-E-Boy, I

Submitted by killa37 on Wed, 06/20/2012 - 1:01pm.

As you know, Jon-E-Boy, I live over here in Asia/Hawaii, and I have heard a myriad of accents and speech patterns, due to the wide range of ethnic groups that live here, as well as the 'pidgen English' that is common here. And I also know that there are a variety of accents coming out of the USA mainland - depending on where people are from. Plus, I know that the 'blacks' may have a particular style of talking, if they choose to speak like that - although there is no reason why any 'black' person can't speak good English - and I'll say the same about 'whites', or any other race. Hell, I speak perfect 'pidgen' when I need to communicate with some of my subs, which amazes my client - who doesn't have the slightest idea what I'm saying!!!

But I have to say that I've NEVER heard ANYONE - in my whole life - who speaks with the affected accents, speech patterns, inflections, nuances, and idiosyncracies as Boy Baraka....................and, as you know, this has been used to credit him with some high level of brilliance or intelligence. I've never bought into that - I think his speaking style is exactly like his whole life has been - a big put-on............a total fake job. Hell, the guy can't even speak 'black' worth a crap - I can't figure out why the 'blacks' think he is one of them, because he isn't!!! And, aside from using the 'color' and 'race' for his own gain, he's proved it!!! And so has his uppity wife Imelda.

Submitted by StarAZ on Wed, 06/20/2012 - 11:56am.

I was laughing--Bill actually took a stand--that was the most boring presser on record, EVER, he declared. He challenged every guest to come up with one notable item. He said flat-out that the man does not know what he is doing! I have noticed soft-pedaling at Fox in about the last year or so--but not last nite!

Yeah, that was refreshing. Bill sure had his dander up about it. I thought he was going to punch something or his head might explode.

I will say this for Bill -- he does hate it when people use a lot of words and say absolutely nothing. He also hates boring speeches. So the combo was just too much for him.

Without his magical speech-writers and teleprompter, his comments went something like this...

"uhhhh, ummmmmm, uhhhhh."

" I me me me me me me me I I I myself, uhhhhh, ummm"

"uhhhhh, duhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, uhhhhhhhhhhh"

Meanwhile, you could see Putin laughing at him while he stepped on his marble.

Again.

The only think missing for Clown Kardashian was the red foam nose and the floppy shoes.
