Scott Brown Won't Debate Elizabeth Warren With MSNBC As Sponsor

Sen. Scott Brown (R-Ma.) has told the Edward M. Kennedy Institute that he will only participate in a debate against Democratic challenger Elizabeth Warren if MSNBC drops out as sponsor.

The Boston Globe reported Monday:

Senator Scott Brown said today that he will accept a debate at the Edward M. Kennedy Institute, but only on the condition that Vicki Kennedy stay neutral in the election and MSNBC drop out as the sponsor.

The campaign said in a statement that it would agree to allowing Tom Brokaw to moderate. Elizabeth Warren has already accepted the Sept. 27 debate, but Brown had previously not committed. The candidates are jointly committed to two other televised debates so far, one in the Boston market and a second one in Western Massachusetts.

Vicki Kennedy, Senator Kennedy’s widow, had extended the invitation for a third.

Brown campaign manager Jim Barnett wrote in a letter to the Kennedy Institute:

"[W]hile we accept Tom Brokaw as a moderator, we prefer debates with local media sponsors, not out-of-state cable networks with a reputation for political advocacy,” he continued. “We are confident that issue can be easily addressed as there are a number of Massachusetts media outlets that would be willing to sponsor a debate such as the one you are proposing for the Kennedy Institute, and I’m sure they would be pleased to have Mr. Brokaw as moderator."

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

Politico's Dylan Byers reports MSNBC "was never confirmed to air the debate":

POLITICO has obtained a copy of Vicki Kennedy's invitation, which says that the debate "would be carried live on our local NBC affiliates and/or MSNBC."

So all things considered, it looks like Sen. Brown could get his way, at least in regards to MSNBC. Kennedy's endorsement is another matter.

Where is this heading?

Stay tuned.

It's not much of a choice: Warren, who would vote with the Dems on everything, vs Brown who votes with the Dems on everything that's important.

Hey, I know, with all these true conservative politicians in MA, let's nominate one for POTUS! Now that's a plan.

So Kennedy's neice is going to be some kind of 'moderator', or something............and Tom Brokejaw is going to run the gig???

If this is the debate's theme song then Brown's heading for a scalping. ;-)   (Was that Kenny Rogers?!)

From Wikipedia about Vicki Kennedy:

While the Kennedy and Reggie families were friends for many years, Vicki remembers (but Senator Kennedy did not) their first meeting when Vicki was a summer intern in his Senate office's mailroom the year following her college graduation.

That's entirely correct. All Conservatives should refused to do "debates" on obvious Leftists networks. Hmm. That narrows it down to the New Media only, I guess.

Good for Brown

Submitted by auzerais on Tue, 06/19/2012 - 4:50am.

I wish EVERY GOP candidate would have the courage to openly declare that they are simply fed up with NBC's repeated lying and its poorly concealed pro-Obama agenda. Everyone of our candidates should just tell them they will no longer participate in the media's circus while NBC's mad dogs are still in heat.

Good for Scott Brown!

Submitted by Dan In SC on Tue, 06/19/2012 - 6:23am.

I don't see why any Republican would ever agree to do a debate against his democrat opponent and MSNBC. The whole goal of MSNBC is to make Republicans look bad and make democrats look good.

And let's not forget how the democrats were cheered in 2008 for refusing to debate on Fox News. If any lib feigns outrage about what Brown is doing now, be sure to remind them of their (typical) double standard.

Finally, a conservative with a pair.

I have never understood knowing how bias the "Public Relations firm" of MSNBC is that they continue to host debates that you know are going to be one sided at best. We saw this throughout the Republican primaries and now that elections are coming due they will continue their liberal agenda of cover and distraction for the DNC.

Thank You, Mr. Brown

Use Elected Officials as questioners in Presidential Debates

Submitted by libBuster on Tue, 06/19/2012 - 12:23pm.

Romney should end the tradition of letting "journalists" ask questions at Presidential Debates. I suggest using an equal number of elected officials from each party as questioners. Say two Governors from each Party.

It will make for a better debate with better questions. The biases of the questioner will be known to all.

Good for Sen. Brown. In fact, I wouldn't even accept Brokaw since he's been going off the rails for several years. Any exposure of MSNBC should be classified as a crime against humanity. Stay tough, Senator, and don't forget to feed Warrren some recipes from her Cherokee cook book. She is a walkin', talkin' lie.
