George Stephanopoulos: Maybe Clinton Is Right About Extending Bush Tax Cuts
Former President Bill Clinton made headlines last week when he told CNBC's Maria Bartiromo the Bush tax cuts should be extended into next year.
On ABC's This Week Sunday, Clinton's former adviser turned talk show host George Stephanopoulos asked one of his guests, "Might not he be right on the issue of extending the tax cuts at least for two or three or four months into next year to get over that uncertainty that’s going to come right after the election?" (video follows with commentary, photo via Life magazine):
This raises a couple of questions.
First, if Stephanopoulos thinks Clinton might have been right about this, why didn't he bring up the nonsense the former President said on CNN Thursday about thinking the Bush tax cuts expire before Election Day?
Is it because Stephanopoulos still has a soft spot for his former boss and didn't want to expose the absurdity of those remarks?
Also, by bringing up this question, Stephanopoulos himself was clearly defending Clinton thereby suggesting his allegiance is still with America's 42nd president.
This is especially interesting given the speculation that Clinton might be making statements like this to undermine President Obama's reelection chances.
If that's the case, whose side is Stephanopoulos on?
Hmmm.

The left is gradually
Submitted by LinTaylor on Sun, 06/10/2012 - 1:10pm.
The left is gradually imploding in their fawning worship of His Royal Highness Barack Obama. The cracks have been appearing in their facade all year as they finally seem to recognize that maybe, just maybe, they should have actually vetted this guy instead of running full-speed to elect him because he's 1) black, 2) charismatic, and 3) not George W. Bush.
I love it.
You're so right Lin

The left, through the Obambi administration's ignorance, incompetance, and ineptness, is turning into a Keystone Cops version of politics. Virtually every time Obambi or one of his cronies open their mouths, their "message" must be "corrected" or "explained" within hours. Obambi seems determined to focus on tiny little voting blocs for support (LGBT, Enviro-terrorists, etc.) at the expense of far larger groups whom he should be cultivating. A sure sign of political ineptness. That, and Obambi STILL can't understand when people don't just jump to do whatever he says anymore. After all, he's Da Wun isn't he? His ego, his actual belief in the myth perpetrated about him, and his upbringing in Chicago politics did nothing to prepare him for the real world of national and international politics. He had such a cake-walk in '08, what with no real competition (McCain), the naive 20-somethings in college, and the media literally fawning over him, he damn sure isn't prepared to actually have to fight for re-election. Romney is a serious contender for the job, the 20-somethings have graduated and don't have jobs, and the media is (slowly) turning on him.
Watching his self-destruction is a pure joy to watch. And it'll get better as the campaigns progress and true desperation sets in.
Clinton's bushwhacking Obama?

Not really in IMHO.
A short-term extension is purely political and there is little elese that could be done for the Democrat viewpoint.
1) A huge chunk of the Democrat base pays virtually no federal income taxes but another tax "credit" for "the middle class and poor" might be dangled to give the Democrat base more goodies.
2) Clinton is also pandering to the affected "rich" who should know better that whatever "savings" they get in the first few months would be offset later.
3) Anyone who is can do basic math understands that the so-called "tax cuts for the rich" overwhelmingly favor the "middle class" by a 4 to 1 ratio in terms of overall savings so lost revenues is only a moderate concern.
4) The class warfare strategy is not working so muddling through on policies and smearing the opposition is all the bankrupt braintrust of the Democrat Party has left ... and giving away "free stuff" to more and more people.
5) If the Democrats lose they'll have screwed up the country so badly they can hope the Republicans will be blamed for not fixing the economy, etc. and regain the White House and Congress in 2016.

Yes we are Taxed Enough Already. The spending is magnitudes off the chart driving the HUGE DEBT,
Today's amount is $ 1 5 , 7 4 4 , 3 3 1 , 9 3 8 , 3 8 9 . 6 6
The way we got out of the huge WW-2 debt (our share was 5 trillion ) was to capture 60% of the worlds manufacturing. Is that going to happen again?

And federal income tax collections decline to about 2004, then from 2005-7 federal income tax
revenues shattered all previous records, even during the late Clinton years. Nothing close since then, either.
merly1 - merrily merrily. indeed they did drop
Submitted by Gary Hall on Sun, 06/10/2012 - 2:05pm.
Indeed. Federal tax revenues certainly reflect the economic cycles. The driving force behind the drop in revenues from 2000 through 2003 was because of the economic fallout from the collapse of the dot.com (Enron) bubble in March, 2000. As well, that was by far, the cause of the immediate disappearance of the short lived budget surpluses and the return to large deficits.
That cycle ended in 2003-2004, and revenues once again began to soar (to new heights).
Then, the crash in 2008 triggered the end of that cycle, and the beginning of the next.

Submitted by TE on Sun, 06/10/2012 - 2:39pm.
The "Bush tax cuts" were primarily nothing but a PARTIAL REPEAL of the massive Clinton TAX INCREASES. Consequently, the "Bush tax cuts" at issue were not "tax cuts". Republicans object to reinstating the Clinton TAX INCREASES and Democrats support reinstating the Clinton TAX INCREASES.

Liberals always lie. Now just who is the father of lies? Therefore are they his children?

According to conventional wisdom from the smart people on the left it was the republicans who were supposed to be fractured. Looks like it is the left that is cracking up. Hilarious, couldin't happen to more deserving people. LOL
