Jon Stewart Slams MSNBC's Coverage of Walker Recall Election: 'MSNB-Sad'
How bad was MSNBC's coverage of Republican Governor Scott Walker winning his recall election in Wisconsin Tuesday?
Well, the Daily Show's Jon Stewart on Wednesday renamed the network "MSNB-Sad" saying that it "passed through all the stages of grief last night" (video follows with transcript and commentary, serious vulgarity warning):
JON STEWART, HOST: If Fox was high, MSNBC must be MSNB-Sad.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
ED SCHULTZ, MSNBC: To say that I'm shocked and stunned is pretty much an understatement.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
STEWART: “Shocked and stunned is an understatement. No, it feels tonight more like my heart was f—ked by the devil.
(Laughter) No, wait, that's an overstatement. Tonight I feel somewhere between shocked, stunned and devil heart f--ked. (Laughter) This is Ed Schultz.”
Indeed, MSNBC passed through all the stages of grief last night. Stage one, denial.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
SCHULTZ: You know, NBC is calling it for Walker. Okay, I think it's awful close and there's a lot of absentee ballots yet that are still out.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
STEWART: Yeah, no. (Laughter) Stage two, denial.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
JOHN NICHOLS, NATION MAGAZINE: This will not be a massive win for Scott Walker.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
STEWART: Yeah. (Laughter) Finally, stage three, just really massive amounts of industrial-grade denial.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
LAWRENCE O’DONNELL, MSNBC: Tonight, the really big winner of the Wisconsin recall election is President Obama.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
(Laughter)
STEWART: Yep, just like Obama drew it up on the chalk board. “Hey, guys, I got an idea. What if we could figure out a way to have the core of what we believe soundly rejected by voters in a swing state just five months before the national election? It might just be the boost we need.”
Actually, in this instance, there were four stages of grief with the last one being not understanding that if the exit polls were wrong in predicting who won the recall, they would likewise be off in how Wisconsinites view the upcoming presidential election.
Unfortunately, MSNBC anchors and commentators despite the obvious flaws in Tuesday's exit polls continued to cite them to claim President Obama has a seven point lead over Mitt Romney in Wisconsin.
Maybe Stewart will spoof that hysterical stupidity Thursday.
Stay tuned.

Granted he's just making fun of the extreme leftist baffoons at MSNBC, but still...it's a step in the right direction.
Oooo look at me, I made a pun..
I'm sure he'll get flack for that.

The line-up of hosts is rivaled only by the Cartoon Network, and watching the likes of Special Ed Schultz go through his spectrum of emotional outbursts from rally cries to tirades of anger to pangs of angst, makes for good laughs on The Daily Show.
It is hilarious that MSNBC sunk so much effort and emotion into this doomed recall that they kept denying the reality. Stewart did a good job on this one.

look this is proof that you can make fun of the left and be funny. if they did this more I would watch... I bet a lot more of us would watch his show. he's a funny guy but I get tired of the 90% republican beat up his show does.
Just goes to show...

How truly pathetic the entire network has become. It becomes more like a really bad (or good?) SNL skit with every passing day. Folks at Comcast, are you proud to have your brand attached to this embarrassment?

A lady caller said that no union member would tell the truth to exit pollsters by saying they voted against orders (that they voted for Walker and will vote against Obamugabe in the fall).
Exactly

They really didn't want to get kneecapped by angry "poll workers" and other riff-raff bussed in by the union thugs for telling the truth. Much easier to lie.

Back in the days when I had a land-line phone, I got polled one evening. The 'questions' were set up to try and receive a particular answer, as far as I could tell, so everytime the guy asked me a question, and then gave me the choice of 'answers', I told him that I didn't even agree with the premise of the question, so the purported 'answers' weren't applicable. Plus, I asked him a few questions of my own, just to try and get more information on the subject matter that he was pursuing. Well, after a few minutes, the guy just hung up on me!!!
They probably crossed my number off their list too.
That technique is called "push polling"

And when I've asked questions like you asked the pollster, I've gotten similar reactions -- they hang up.
When carpetbagger Terry McAuliffe was trying to win the Democratic gubernatorial primary in Virginia a few years ago, I actually stumped the pollster from his campaign. When they talked about corruption and economic injustice, I asked him if he knew of McAuliffe's get-rich-quick dealing in Global Crossing before that enterprise went bankrupt, ruining thousand of investors. He hadn't, and was curious to know where I got the info. I told him to google it, and he said thanks before he hung up.
Honest and darn funny~

While I agree with your sentiment, may I make a simple request?
Please do not call that brain dead twit Ed "Sgt Schultz". That is a severe insult to the late John Banner, who played a great role. Besides, I am certain many in uniform would not want to ever hear of this buffoon as any military rank.
That being said.
Of course Ed, Larry, Rachel, and Thrills(calling the douche "tingles" only makes him more powerful) are not just schilling for the Chicago Jesus, they are sacrificing their values, integrity, and their credibility in hope when they die, the great one will bless them for their sacrifice.
Exactly right, Deceptitech

And if I remember correctly, Sgt. Schultz was supposed to be an ex-toymaker who had been reluctantly drafted into the German army and was just intent on doing his duty, not making waves, while longing to return to some semblence of a normal life.
Personally, I find the whole situation hysterical!

First, union thugs force an expensive recall based solely on the beating Walker has given them since he won election. Then, the dems in the state senate flash their a$$es as they (literally) ran away from the vote on collective bargaining, and then actually HID out in other states, clearly demonstrating to the entire country what pu$$ies they truly are. Then, the unions and dems are caught time and again lying, cheating, importing cronies from surrounding states, and trying to bully the recall through. Special Ed ran twice-daily diatribes on how heinous Walker is - to no avail. Union membership has dropped well over 50%. Walker flat-out tromps them, winning, against the same opponent, by a bigger margin than his actual election. Obama refused to support the candidate and the union thugs.
Now watching the mincing little tap dance of the left trying to spin this into anything other than what is really was - a clear signal that their days are numbered, and people are no longer buying their line of bull$hit. They are running scared, with their panties in a bunch and their hankies already stomped. Thoroughly enjoyable.
The only down-side is that this means the gloves are off and this will be an anything-goes presidential election. Expect heinous denunciations of Romney (and, by association the whole Repub party), spin, twisted story lines, outright lies, voter intimidation, and rampant voter fraud from the dems. Both they and the unions stand to lose jobs and power if they don't win reelection. They will stop at nothing to keep that from happening.
Scott Walker saw the chance to end the cycle

Wow! Stuart took a page out of the old comedian's handbook...which is "doesn't matter the party affiliation...if it's funny, I'll say it".
Makes you wonder how many times someone like Letterman says "ouch, that's funny, but can't use it...will have to go with something less funny as not to hurt 'the MAN'!"
And he wonders why is ratings are down? Hey Dave, it's not JUST your ideology, but you don't say funny things all the time. Is there not funny stuff to choose from our side. Of COURSE there is! But BOTH sides! Use them both and get better ratings.
But nooooooo....

thing I have against unions is their forcing the employees to support whoever the union bigwigs are supporting. I am against forced taking of union dues and then giving money to one party (the Dems, of course). I will bet my life not every single, solitary, union worker is a Democrat.

Stewart is merely distancing himself from this obvious debacle.
He's not trying to be fair or spoof both sides. He was rooting for the recall.
He only picks on the left when something has already proven to be publicly unpopular.
This way he can avoid any backlash to his show when things hit the fan, and he can claim to be a bi-partisan heckler.
