CNN's Crowley Asks Gov. McDonnell 'Don’t You Credit Obama' for 'Good Fortune Virginia Has?'
As we approach Election Day, it's becoming more and more important for the Obama-loving media to give credit to the President for the economies of swing states governed by Republicans that are doing better economically than the rest of the country.
Candy Crowley did her part on CNN's State of the Union Sunday by asking Governor Bob McDonnell (R-Va.), "Don’t you credit President Obama at all for the good fortune that Virginia has?" (video follows with transcript and commentary):
CANDY CROWLEY, HOST: Let me talk to you a little about the swing state of Virginia, and I want to show our viewers your unemployment rate which has basically stayed two to three points below the national unemployment rate. It’s a success story really. Okay? You like this. I understand that. But, but, even as you embrace it as a Republican governor, does it not make it difficult for Mitt Romney, who has the same problem in other swing states, to come in and say, “The economy is terrible and, you know, you need to elect a new president?” Because Virginia is doing very well under President Obama.
Actually, I think it makes it easy for Romney to go to a state like Virginia and say, "See how much better your doing under Republican leadership. Imagine how much better you'd be doing if the federal government employed the same economic policies."
McDonnell agreed:
GOVERNOR BOB MCDONNELL (R-VIRGINIA): Yeah, I don’t think it undermines his argument at all. Two reasons. One is as well as we’ve been fortunate to do with the lowest unemployment in the southeast, I tell people, “Think how much better we’d do if we had President Romney.” And number two, I think that there’s something going on with Republican-governed states. Seven out of the ten states, Candy, nationwide that have the lowest unemployment rates, Republican-governed states. Eleven out of the fifteen with the best…
Crowley wasn't having any of this and instead interrupted her guest:
CROWLEY: Don’t you credit President Obama at all for the good fortune that Virginia has? He’s done nothing at all that helped you all?
MCDONNELL: Well I ask you, “What would you point to that would lead you to say that that unemployment?” The only thing I can say is he had a seven, he had nearly trillion dollars in stimulus, and that was one-time spending. Did it help us in the short-run…
CROWLEY: Did it help?
MCDONNELL: …with healthcare and education spending? Did it balance the budget? Sure. Does it help us in the long-term to really cut, cut the unemployment rate? I’d say “No.” But we’ve done a lot of things. Republicans and Democrats in Virginia doing some things that I requested on economic development and targeted tax cuts and other things that I think have made a difference. So, I’d say Republican governors are doing some things that are making a difference, and that’s why I’m trying to get more of them this year.
Crowley continued to press the point:
CROWLEY: So just a tiny bit of credit to the President?
MCDONNELL: Well sure. I think there’s national policies that have had some impact, but I can tell you this: if we didn’t have all these attacks on Virginia’s energy industry, we’d be in a lot better shape. This president on coal, natural gas, nuclear, not letting us drill off-shore, the Environmental Protection Agency’s over-burdensome regulations on coal and natural gas, have made it much more difficult for us. We’d be lower on the unemployment rate if we didn’t have these policies.
Crowley then changed the subject.
Prepare yourself for more such nonsense like this.
The reality is that many Republican-led states are indeed doing far better than the rest of the nation, and Obama's fans in the media need to somehow convince the American people that his policies are working better there than in Democrat-run states because of him and not the governors at the helm.
Yes, it's quite a feat, but they're going to do their darnedest to pull off this three card monty.

In Illinois the democrat controlled legislature is cutting about everything Leftist democrats champion, aid to the poor, elderly, handicapped, schools. The unions such as teachers are going to take a hit, even the ones already retired.
Governor Walker of Wisconsin hasn't even come close to enacting the draconian cuts that will have to be made in Illinois. Odd isn't it that obama lectures other states even other countries on not taking up fiscal restraint but says nothing to his home state. Where's Krugman pushing Illinois to... Spend Baby Spend?
It's no wonder Illinois is not brought up as a model for the rest of the nation even though obama claims it as his home state.

The Republicans are missing an opportunity by not focusing on Illinois, obama's home state and where he once was a legislator. Almost every economic nightmare that democrats scare special interest groups with is happening in Illinois. Imagine the outrage if a Republican led government was considering closing down housing for the mentally handicapped. ...or cutting Medicaid for the poor. Every time a political scare ad is run against any Republican anywhere they should point to obama's home turf and show the people where it is actually happening.

I was feeling pretty good about the Romney Campaign today after watching Republican spokesmen on a couple of the morning shows push back when asked stupid questions, then this dope finally lets Candy Cane pull a "sure Obama helped some" out of him.
Man up, McDonnell.

That ticked me off, too. Here we had Candy pathetically, transparently continue to grovel for any "tiny" bit of credit for Obama (beyond unprofessional), and he stuck to his guns through that nonsense with really great points -- only to throw her a scrap at the end. What the heck is wrong with saying one of the following to her:
"I'm a fair man, and if I feel credit is due, I will say so" or
"Why do you continue to ask me the same exact question over and over again? I've already answered that." OR
"Why is it so important to you that you get credit for Obama?"

Agreed. He shouldn't have even done that, but it WAS literally a scrap, and I think he just wanted to Crowley to shut up about it.
At least the last thing he said was about how the state did fine in spite of bad policies, and without them would have done even better.
Crowley is a plus-size Katie Couric, who just wants to be "taken seriously" as a reporter, and thinks she can do it by pasting a scowl on her face and acting "earnest."
But she pulls crap like this and comes off as just a whiner.

CNN promotes their network as a bastion of fair journalism but with Candy Crowley, Wolf Blitzer, Piers Morgan and the remainder of their stellar lineup, they are just a smidgen less leftist than MSNBC. MSNBC has done a better job of branding their product by being unabashedly pro left and pro Obama with no pretense of anything less.
This kind of journalism (if you want to call it that) is why the MSM is losing audience in big numbers and credibility with all but the most rabid leftists. Watch for things to just get worse for them.

His answer should have been:
No. quite the opposite. The progress that we have made in Virginia has been inspite of Obama and his misguided policies. Imagine how much better it would be if we didn't have a Federal Government getting in the way and trying to dictate which jobs are good and which jobs are bad?

Washington D.C. in Virginia
Submitted by Kingfish17 on Sun, 06/03/2012 - 1:49pm.
Obama has helped parts of the state of Virginia in a microcosm sort of way. As Washington D.C. continues to grow and spills over it's border into Virginia, the great sucking sound of money flowing from the rest of the country into D.C. and surrounds has helped boost federal jobs and the associated support structure in D.C. and Northern Virginia. Why do you think that the founders saw it fit to not let people who lived in the District of Columbia vote for President? Why do they still have no Senators? The founders saw the obvious conflict of interest in having the federal infrastructure being able to vote itself an ever increasing money flow into the federal government, into their own pocketbooks. Too bad liberals and leftists and statists and Democrats have figured a way, over time, of usurping the founders intents when it came to small federal government.
The prosperity that Northern Virginia has experienced doesn't come close to offsetting the burden that Obama and his gang have inflicted on the rest of the state of Virginia and the rest of the country for that matter. So yes, Obama has helped in his typical fashion: Obama's cronies and supporters have benefited to the detriment of the the rest of the state of Virginia and the rest of the country.

Will the GOP ever grow a spine with these talking heads?
Submitted by drsamherman on Sun, 06/03/2012 - 8:03pm.
Joe Walsh comes closest to handling these liberal and leftist talking heads assertively. He just shuts them down when they go into Demobot mode and has no time for their bullcrap. I hope the rest of the GOP does the same, and does not play this sham civility the Democrats want to use to control the dialogue.
Romney's team so far has handled the media with just a little finesse. They need to be far more aggressive in anticipating the tactics which the lapdogs will use coming out of his achievement of sufficient delegates to clinch the nomination.
Republicans MUST learn to play on the basal level that has been a Democrat trademark for the past seven presidential elections and all of the interleaving congressional elections. There is simply no more room on the political stage for outmoded ideas, and effectively neutralizing the media's addiction to regurgitating the morning White House teleconference talking points will take a degree of guts that the Republicans had better obtain--and fast. The odds are not insurmountable, but the whole fake civility must be pointed out as Democrat hypocrisy and thrown right back at them with more strength than ever.

Mr. McDonnell is exactly right. The states would be doing much better if Obama and his minions would get out of the way and let the private sector do what they do best. That is to create jobs. That in turn means more taxes paid, and less unemployment. Such a simple concept, no wonder the elites can't understand it.
