Fareed Zakaria Asks Manny Pacquiao: Is it Wrong to Make Millions While People Are Starving in Your Country?

By Noel Sheppard | June 02, 2012 | 12:07

Noel Sheppard's picture

Boxer Manny Pacquiao is one of the most beloved figures in his native country the Philippines.

During an interview to be aired on CNN's Fareed Zakaria GPS Sunday, the host asked him if "there is something wrong with somebody in the Philippines" making as much money as he does "when people are starving" in his country (video follows with transcript and commentary):

FAREED ZAKARIA, HOST: You know, there are reports, your Forbes magazine, other places say you make tens maybe more millions of dollars, $40 million one year. Philippines is a very poor country. Do you think that there is some, there is something wrong with somebody, with somebody in the Philippines making that much money when people are starving in your country?

What a disgusting question to ask someone.

As an anchor for CNN, Zakaria likely makes far more money than most Americans. He's quite likely part of the "one percent" so to speak.

Since people are also starving here, doesn't that make him wrong for earning so much?

Rich liberals never seem to grasp that hypocrisy when they point fingers at others that are financially successful.

Fortunately, Pacquiao had a marvelous response:

MANNY PACQUIAO: It’s hard to judge, but in the Philippines it’s very, you know, it’s poor country, and the problem is, the major problem is the corruption. And we’re fighting for that and to give, to show, to show the people that I’m the one, I’m one of the honest public servant in the Philippines.

Nicely said.

Does Fareed "the freak" Care?

Submitted by SimJim on Sat, 06/02/2012 - 12:27pm.

You would think an illegal alien advocate wouldn't let borders get in the way of his generosity. If people are starving in the Phillipines, shouldn't Fareed care too? I'm sure he has more money than he needs. And he didn't have to get punched in the face to get it either.

Liberals have this tendency to whine about injustices based on where a person lives. So if a woman in Saudi Arabia gets beat for revealing her face, oh, well, that's fine as long as it is far away. But if an American woman can't join Augusta National Golf Club, well that's the worse thing to ever happen in the history of women. It's actually pretty funny in a pathetic liberal way.

Question For Zakaria

Submitted by Bourbeau on Sat, 06/02/2012 - 12:31pm.

Is it wrong for a brainless anchor to make hundreds of thousands of dollars, asking stupid questiion, when there are so many people on food stamps in this country. These people on CNN need to be taken to the wood shed; it's disgraceful the level they will go to embarass someone who is seemingly doing the best he can, and is being rewarded for it. Another suggestion for the idiot anchor, lets see your tax return and how much money you donate to those less fortunate then you? I'd think we all would be shocked; well maybe not shocked, after all, he's a liberal.

Thanks MB, but it was Dave who provided the question. :-)

Besides being hypocritical he is still trying to push the class warfare rhetoric that his Messiah started.

Now, I really think everyone here on NB (libturds and trolls excluded) need to get on Twitter. It is a quick and simple way to push back at these idiots in the media. Posting here only on NB does not show that the majority of Americans do not believe what they say anymore, we are doing nothing but speaking in the echo chamber. The only way others hear what we have to say is if they follow a link to NB and read our comments.

Twitter takes the argument to them.

Dave. Indeed.

I understand that Obama probably has pulled strings (in violation of federal laws) in getting his aunt a pass on deportation and untimely, US citizenship (without being put at the back of the line as he promised), and in keeping his drunk uncle out of jail (what is the rest of that story?), but, when it comes to his extended family (or is that his expendable family) which lives in nothing shy of dire poverty - has he ever lifted a finger to help them?

How about it Fareed? How about asking dear unapproachable leader a few questions?

I think it was Blonde who said something like, "Don't trust a country where all the cops and politicians are fat and happy, and all the citizens are poor, unhappy,  and starving."

That is most of the countries of the world, including the Phillipines.

Freak doesn't think a second about making a ton of money (with no apparent talent, I might add)) while his "people" abuse human rights on a massive scale, especially if you are a female human.

Doesn't that keep you awake at night, Freak?

Manny gets in the ring and has the potential of getting the Shiite kicked out of him to earn his money, and you want to lay a guilt trip on him, you douche bag?

How much did Manny pay in taxes?

Submitted by ThisnThat on Sat, 06/02/2012 - 12:52pm.

Let's see, if he paid 25% (not even the top bracket in America), that would be $10M. And $10M would feed a lot of people. If Fareed wasn't such a dishonest bastard, he would point that out, and in fact praise Manny for the large amount of money he contributes (albiet, involuntarily) to his country's bottom line. But liberals hate non-liberal rich people so much that they will do anything to tear them down now, won't they? It's a job qualification that CNN and MSNBC specifically requires for their talking heads.

that Fareed and his media cohorts belong to. The CFR protects clowns like Newsweek editor Zakaria and that makes him feel invulnerable to taking jabs at successful professional sports figures like the great Manny Pacquiao.

Zakaria takes advantage of the weekly news market and uses his CFR connections to get himself billed on television "news shows" as the "expert" on all things political.

Fareed do you know what a right cross feels like? Pacquiao is a southpaw but a slight tap from the champ's right glove would send this TV clown to the mat for a year.

Who said that the age of dueling was barbaric?

My advice to Pacquiao is to learn to jab back at frauds like Fareed Zakaria.

It's obvious why Fareed asked this question: Manny is a politician, a devoutly religious politician, which automatically classifies him as an "extreme conservative, " and he's "rich," so, as Fareed can't "toss in the towel" on Manny's political career, he's tossing in the "class warfare" card instead. To Fareed, Manny is the Filipino Mitt Romney.
