Martin Bashir Blames Bad Jobs Report on Boehner, Calls Him a Coward

MSNBC's Martin Bashir on Friday blamed today's abysmal jobs report on Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-Oh.) and Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.).

Bashir also called the Speaker "a coward" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

MARTIN BASHIR: And as per usual, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) made his monthly appearance before the cameras today after the release of the latest job numbers. Mr. Cantor, who’s opposed everything that the president has tried to do from raising the debt ceiling to pass the American Jobs Act, is rarely seen these days apart from when he stands up to celebrate his latest achievement.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

CONGRESSMAN ERIC CANTOR (R-VIRGINIA): These job numbers are pathetic, and, you know, the American people really deserve better, and I think under the right leadership we can do better.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

BASHIR: But Mr. Cantor is part of the leadership of this country. He’s the Majority Leader in the House. I’m certain the word “leader” is on his business card. But Leader Cantor has done absolutely everything in his power to ensure that not one of the President’s policies on job creation has ever seen the light of day. Even when an independent analytics firm like Moody’s estimates that the American Jobs Act would create almost two million new jobs and raise GDP by a full two percentage points, Mr. Cantor prefers his own form of leadership which is designed to crush job creation.

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

Not that one should ever expect Bashir to know what he's talking about, the original version of the American Jobs Act never made it out of the Senate as it failed to pass cloture on October 11, 2011. Three Democrats voted against cloture including Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.).

As such, the original bill never was never voted on in the House making it preposterous to blame its failure on Cantor. But I digress:

BASHIR: And Mr. Cantor’s approach has been shared by another leader in job crushing – the Speaker of the House Mr. Boehner a man who also made his monthly appearance today.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE JOHN BOEHNER (R-OHIO): Maybe the President ought to get out of the badminton game and get into the rugby game that’s right in front of him.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

BASHIR: Really? Having played the sport of rugby union for over 30 years and having had the proverbial kicked out of me on several occasions with multiple orthopedic injuries, I can tell you that the Speaker is far too much of a coward to ever go on a rugby field. But he’s also too much of a coward to own up to his all important role in ensuring that the economic recovery of America is as fragile as it is today.

So, well done Mr. Cantor and Mr. Boehner. Congratulations. You always wanted to undermine the president, but what you’ve done is undermine the country.

For the record, Boehner was a linebacker on his high school football team. He also enlisted in the Navy in 1968 while the Vietnam War was at its peak, but was later honorably discharged due to a bad back.

This is what Bashir calls a coward.

BUT, boehnor is a coward and just another useless tool RINO for not pushing hard on undoing all the damage obama has done to this nation.

There have been plenty of actions that qualify as "possibly Treasonous" that deserve investigations, yet little johnnie won't even raise his hand to speak.

Nor will he allow any other ELECTED REPRESENTATIVES to bring any discussions to the floor for discussions.

Boehnor should be removed as speaker and reprimanded for being too stupid to perform his duties.

Not credible

Bashir has no credibility and, therefore, should be ignored. I ignore him. The only time I realize he is still alive is when he pops up on Newsbusters.

On display ladies and gentlemen. So if you do not roll over for the president you are a coward. Got it. So Congresswoman Pelosi was a coward in 2007 and 2008? Is that the conclusion?

No no no Pelosi can't possibty be a coward

Submitted by ohio granny on Sat, 06/02/2012 - 11:52am.

Pelosi can't be a coward because she is a liberal democrat and it was a republican president she didn't support. Only republicans and conservatives are cowards if they don't support a liberal democrat.Makes no difference how stupid or dumb that democrat or liberal is and make no mistake Pelosi and Obama are really dumb when it comes to the economy.

Comrade mullah Bashir actually is partially correct here

Submitted by Dave. on Fri, 06/01/2012 - 11:30pm.

If the perpetually limp Boehner would actually grow a pair and start going after and de-funding the Dear Ruler's hideous agenda (such as Obamacare), instead of getting into bed with the Kenyan fraud at every opportunity, perhaps at least some of the uncertainty out there might dissipate to the point where at least some companies might start hiring again.

But Boehner has no balls at all.

Conservatives he has to work with the "ballsier" he will become.

I will be very disappointed if he agrees to raising the debt limit again. I wish he hadn't done it last time and I believe he probably feels the same way. (Fool me once Obama, your fault. Fool me twice, my fault.)

I think he has been saying the right things lately though.

they are doing to Rachel Maddow? In the past (before Obama) bad jobs reports were always blamed on the President. He always got credit when things were good and blame when things were bad. Now this guy wants to blame the Speaker?

If anyone should be blamed other than the President, how about Harry Reid? The Senate is where all of Congress' passed bills go to die!

Yeah, he has orthopedic injuries, to his neck for having his head so far wedged up his ass. No mention of those hard working majority demoncrats in the Senate, hey Martin? Apparently your sport injuries have rendered you totally incapapable of recognizing the truth and you msdnc status insures you'll never tell it.

The Left has NO credibility in calling out our guys

Submitted by gopcongress on Sat, 06/02/2012 - 6:33pm.

I have a lot of problems with John Boehner, but they are problems that emanate from the RIGHT, not the LEFT. Having said that, the Left is absolutely hypocritical in calling out Boehner when it's Der Real Leader, Obama, along with Harry Reid whom sets the agenda as of late.

Yes, Bashir has played rugby before at a high competitive level (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/rugbyunion/3015130/My-Rugby-Passion-Mar...) but it's still very petty to compare a statement in which Boehner is referring to a "scrum," not so much the whole sport of rugby itself.
