Newt Gingrich: Chris Matthews 'Is Slightly Wacked'
As NewsBusters previously reported, Newt Gingrich last week told MSNBC's Chris Matthews, "You have a more ruthless approach to politics than I do."
Discussing this Hardball appearance on Morning Joe Thursday, Gingrich said of Matthews, "Part of the reason that Chris keeps that show is that he’s slightly wacked" (video follows with transcript and commentary):
After a clip was played of Gingrich's recent appearance on Hardball, host Joe Scarborough asked, "So what were you thinking as Chris Matthews came at you 35 miles an hour with all of these questions about reptiles when you were going on there to talk politics?”
The former Speaker responded:
NEWT GINGRICH: You know, part of the reason that Chris keeps that show is that he’s slightly wacked, and you never quite know where you’re going. Just watch the way he opens the show. I mean, you know, “it’s Hardball,” and he’s off and running. So, my experience being with Chris has been that if you just relax and stay a half step ahead of him, you can survive the performance, and, you know, get back another day.
Actuallly, before the show, we went into his office and were looking at great pictures he’s taken in Africa over the years. He first went there, I think, as a Peace Corps volunteer. So he has a really genuine interest in animals, although I would not have identified him - as much as I’m a critic - I would not have identified him as a black mamba.
I'm not sure Matthews is "slightly wacked," but having followed him since his days with the San Francisco Examiner, I believe him to be a devout liberal that can no longer hide his biases.
Fortunately for him, his current home of MSNBC wants all of its employees to be as biased as possible which at this stage in his career makes it a perfect fit.

Only "slightly"? Newt is more

Only "slightly"? Newt is more charitable than I would be in his shoes.
I disagree.

"slightly wacky" is a masterpiece of understatement!
I think Matthews is gone WAY beyond bias.
He hears "code words" and "dog whistles" in everything said by a Republican.
He might as well be wearing a tinfoil hat.
It's well known that Tingles is genuinely paranoid about robots.

Sorry, but that is not 'slightly' wacked... it's fully wacked.
I never watch

Never watch him, never will. Never watch MSNBC, never will. I read propaganda from the left so I know what they are saying and doing. I refuse to listen to it.
I did once

With all the spittle and slobber that spewed forth from the screen, I had to have the carpet cleaned.
"Wacky" is not a psychiatric term, except amongst ourselves.

Chrissie's profile, based solely on some observations of him, is a mixed grab-bag.
One thing I see in him is the need for attention, and another is a cross-over obsession or severe fixation with politicians with whom he identifies. The latter goes beyond just support and encouragement, and often appears to go into what Freudian classic psychoanalysts used to term a "psycho-sexual complex". It is like they become his best friends, and seems to default to near-sexual imagery in expressing his desire to be their acknowledged number one fan (or stalker in the extreme example). He personalizes his obsessions to the point where reacts to negative situations about his obsessions like they were about him. It's best corollary is the Jungian concept of "the shadow". To Chrissie, when you criticize Obama, it is conflated to criticizing him and he acts out accordingly.
He definitely obsesses over anything that does not fit in his very narrow world view. He defends his positions largely by is sometimes called the "experiential default", that being his age and the supposed wisdom that it brings. Problem is, by and large, the "age confers wisdom" adage has largely been dismantled. Differences in cognitive perception, existing Axis I/II combinations and the "rose-colored glass" effects of age don't really support that. Instead, it becomes more of a combination of instinctual self-survival and aversion/avoidance than wisdom. Chrissie's presentation is classic for that.
As this election continues to its finale, look for him to become even more unwound.
Just curious Doc........

As we see Matthews descending further and further into insanity, almost to the point of being a maniac, at this point in the election. What do you think, given his current state, will happen when Zero actually loses the election? Will it be rubber room, and Thorazine time?

Off the deep end.
At the very least, most patients with his kind of profile sink into a deep depression and end up lashing out even worse.
The tingles will be over, and the pain will start.

...and I've taken a few to many to the noggin!!!
I've always likened an attempt to watch any program on MSNBC to trying to hold your breath as long as possible. You can only last so long before you lose consciousness.

Chris Matthews: started with pretty fair across the board...to moderate....to liberal...to stupid.
I'm as far from a liberal as anyone, but liberals don't have to be stupid. Problem is, more and more of them are. And Chris is.
But here's Chris's thinking on that: "hey, I'm still no Joan Walsh".
If he thinks that, he would actually be correct.

Chris ("Tingle Up My Leg") Matthews is seriously whacked.
But Newt isn't exactly the best messenger.

We just watched yet another reason Newt should be the nominee. He's very personable and not really prone to just go on a rampage with someone (like Tingles) who he has profound disagreement with.
Yet he was very tough and forthright when confronting his adversaries when he was leading the Republicans to victory in '94 and when he wielded the reins as Speaker.
What the heck is with that "baggage" nonsense? Who were those "angels" who took over for him but could not continue his track record of job creation and prosperity? Look where we're at now.

Jon Stewart tried to tell him he had a sad outlook as revealed in one of his books. Matthews should have listened. I mean honestly, asking a guest on the show and referring to him as a poisonous snake and laughing to try and sound inoffensive? Clumsy metaphors of snakes swallowing elephants?
On edit: Chris, we know you monitor Newbusters. Try to take our comments as constructive criticism. It's not too late to change.

This is very gentlemanly of Newt. He's very gracious not to say outright what many of us suspect, that Chris Matthews is way off his nut.
