Martin Bashir: Michelle Obama's Anti-Obesity Campaign Based on Warnings From 'Obstetricians'

By Noel Sheppard | May 30, 2012 | 08:56

NewsBusters readers know that one of my guilty pleasures is pointing out the stupidity of America's television personalities.

The award for the most intellectually challenged comment I saw on TV Tuesday goes to MSNBC's Martin Bashir who on the show remarkably bearing his own name said that first lady Michelle Obama based her anti-obesity campaign on warnings from - wait for it! - "obstetricians" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

KRYSTAL BALL, MSNBC CONTRIBUTOR: In general she's just been this incredible role model. And as a mother myself, I have a four-year-old little girl, and these are things that I'm thinking through, and how do you balance that fast-paced life with healthy eating and healthy habits. She's someone that I look to to see, you know, how she's managing to balance it all. It's quite incredible.

So Ball, a former Congressional candidate turned MSNBC contributor, actually looks to the first lady - with her huge staff, secret service, as well access to taxpayer funded limousines, helicopters, and airplanes - to see "how she's balancing it all?"

Can the folks on MSNBC get more shamelessly sycophantic?

Actually, when you're on the Martin Bashir show, the answer is always a resounding "Yes":

MARTIN BASHIR, HOST: But she's been in the vanguard of medical science that is warning us that if we don't take control of our diets, over 50 percent of the nation will be clinically obese in about fifteen years. So this isn't something that she's kind of made up as a political football. She's basing her compassionate desire to improve the eating practices of all of us on science, on warnings from obstetricians and people who are experts in this field.

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

Um, Martin? An obstetrician is a doctor that specializes in the care of women's reproductive tracts and their babies during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postnatal period.

Obstetricians should not be confused with obesity specialists, dieticians, or nutritionists.

Makes you wonder if Bashir thinks baby bumps are the result of overeating.

Mr. Bashir is a devote

Submitted by John21 on Wed, 05/30/2012 - 9:03am.

Mr. Bashir is a devote propagandist that proves daily that he can create arguments out of thin air, facts not required. The obama administration could announce tomorrow that the world is flat and Mr. Bashir would be providing the scientific argument that it is true without facts or logic.

Mr. Bashir is also in wonderment why no one believes he has any credibility, but that would require us to provide facts, proof and evidence and he has already proven that he does not understand those concepts.

Makes you wonder if he sees a gynecologist for his prostate exam?

No, but I'm betting he sees a proctologist

No, but I'm betting he sees a proctologist for an EEG.....

Maybe so,

Submitted by Cappmann1962 on Wed, 05/30/2012 - 11:56am.

But Bashir would have to mark the spot for the proctologist to examine, or the doc would never find it since this idiot is all a$$...

Could it be the five star 24 hour kitchen staff that can prepare anything she has ever heard of?
Let's be blunt here.
Michelle Obama isn't exactly slapping together tuna sandwiches at 7:30 in the morning as she is rushing to get ready for work and get the kids to the bus.

She has just a little bit of help.

She can go back to her no show job real soon.......

Submitted by Tomorama on Wed, 05/30/2012 - 9:42am.

Spot on, rreminds me of my Mom throwing together lunches for the 6 of us and throwing Brylcreme and combing 5 boys hair as we were trying to avoid the whole affair.

I looked up to her because of that battle and trying to keep it together and WORKING at the same time "with limited staff and the chef being on vacation................"

I have NO beef with someone informing others based on facts the need to do this or that, but YET, it is still our decisions to do so.

But to hold Obysmals up to some lofty standard as being "so skilled at keeping it all together" is an FN joke.

Have 6 kids all pretty much a year apart and 5 are boys and do it with no staff, then maybe you get a leg tingle out of me, Mooochelle, not a chance.

If you make poverty easy, you will have more of it. Benjamin Franklin

"combing 5 boys hair?"

Submitted by Newsbubba on Wed, 05/30/2012 - 11:23am.

So, Tomo, your mom was a slack mother like Anne Romney who "never worked a day in her life," huh?

I have a feeling that Moochie has never worked a full day in her life, except when it came to not being proud of this country.

What pisses me off more than the fact these bums got into the White House and are riding on the public dime, is the fact that we are stuck paying them "welfare" for the rest of their sorry existence. I'm betting that they figure out a way for their kids to stay on the payroll for the rest of their lives, too, before it's over.

Submitted by motherbelt on Wed, 05/30/2012 - 9:27am.

I'm actually betting Captain Obvious doubles down on this and  finds an obstetrician to come on and say obese women have more difficult pregnancies and too much of a weight gain is not good in pregnancy either.

Another medical discovery brought to you by  MSNBC!!

I kinda wonder if Krystal Ball (Who the heck named her? Some Gypsy passing through town? Or maybe the head of the commune she was raised in.) even birthed her own child. If she did, how come she wouldn't tell Martin what kind of doctor an obstetrician was.

And she and her husband, just being their compassionate selves, are so concerned about what they want for our daughters that she took their daughters to see that wonderful feminine role model, Beyonce, perform her class act in New Jersey.

Scroll down for a couple of videos from the show.

** "Get Me Bodied" is the song and dance that she reworked as "Move Your Body"  the official video for Michelle's  "Let's Move" campaign.

I'm so glad Michelle has "genuine concern" for our kids.

Does she let her daughters dance like that?

Obesity Mandate

I'm getting real tired of Moochelle telling us what we must do , especially when her " professional " advisers really aren't qualified . This angry black heifer needs to mind her own business , and leave the rest of us to make our own decisions .
Nobody asked for her opinion anyway .

And, "this incredible role model"?  PUh-leeze.  Unless you're in the market for a "role model" for vacationing, spending other people's money, and disrespectin'(Obamaspeak) the citizens of this country while you jet around the world.

I think Martin Bashir is a perfect fit at MSNBC

Submitted by Conservator on Wed, 05/30/2012 - 10:58am.

After all, the list of MSNBC's anchors and co-hosts are all pathetically lefty Obama stooges; Joey Scarborough, Mika Brzezinski, Willie Geist, Rachel Maddow, Chris Matthews, Lawrence O'Donnell, Ed Schultz, DylanRatigan, Al Sharpton, Tamron Hall, Chris Jansing, Thomas Roberts, Chuck Todd, Melissa Harris-Perry and Chris Hayes. Also, most of them have been forced to make public apologies for their vitriolic and doltish rants as well.

Yes--stupid. Consider the source. But that dress she has on! Now THAT is actionable. And she does not take care of her kids single-handedly, what with her mother there, and the butlers, etc. Also she eats the greasiest grossest stuff she can find. Soooo.... whatEV.
