Andrew Sullivan: 'I Never Understood the Power of a President's Words' Till Obama Flipflopped on Gay Marriage
Remember back in 2008 when Michelle Obama said, "For the first time in my adult lifetime, I’m really proud of my country?"
The Daily Beast's Andrew Sullivan made a similar remark on this weekend's syndicated Chris Matthews Show when he said of Barack Obama's flipflop on same-sex marriage, "I never understood the power of a president's words till today, till that day" (video follows with transcript and commentary):
ANDREW SULLIVAN, DAILY BEAST: It's hugely important, and to tell you the truth, I didn't realize how important it would be till it happened. Beforehand, I was kind of steeled. I was like, “I don't care, he's going to disappoint us again,” and then I sat down and watched our president tell me that I am his equal. That I'm no longer outside, I'm fully part of this family. And to hear the president, who is in some ways a father figure, speak to that, the tears came down like with many people in our families, to be included.
I never understood the power of a president's words till today, till that day, really. I thought, all that matters is the states and the Congress and the Defense of Marriage Act, and I had all this in my head. And yet suddenly, this man saying, “I'm with you, I get it, you're like me, I'm like you, there is nothing between us, we are the same people, and we are equal human beings, and I want to treat you the way you treat me.” That, that was overwhelming. That's all I can say. I was at a loss for words.
This is the praise liberal media members give when a Democrat president is forced by his bumbling vice president to flipflop on a position that itself was a flipflop for political expedience four years prior.
Regardless of its consistency, the hypocrisy is staggering.
Media observers thought 2008 was conceivably a low for the journalism industry.
What's been happening so far in 2012 and is destined to continue through Election Day is making what happened four years ago look like journalism's heyday.

Sullivan is impressed by someone who was for gay marriage, before he was against it, before he was for it? Doesn't take much.

I think that George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, and even the uber-liberal FDR (as well as others) 'said a few things' too........................and I don't remember any of them making a gay personal statement. Of course, Baraka has said that he considers himself to be amoungst the 'top 3 Presidents' of this country - so most of the other ones don't matter anyway.

racist, liar, panderer, liberal, narcissist, incompetent, arrogant ( without any real basis for being that way unless you count being smart enough to pull the wool over the eyes of the pluperfect fools who adore his disgusting attributes and voted his worthless ass into office), and a limp-wristed pseudo basketball player who throws like a girl, whines like a teeny-bopper complaining about a breakout of zits before the school prom, and a bi-sexual.
Personally, I find him to be a real piece of work; butt then (h/t MOTUS), alongside his nasty-visaged wife, he seems more sissy la-la than dangerous.
I say 'seems', because he is truly the antithesis of what I consider being a patriotic American.
Barack Hussein Obama is a piece of sh*t, and those liberals, Democrats, or anyone, who cannot see what a reprobate he is, are fookin' blind.
Yet this un-vetted Muslim +!&^%$*%^# not only got elected - after close to three and a half years of playing at Master of Disaster, there are morons still falling all over themselves to get to the head of the line in the Obama Bucket Brigade .
Absolutely amazing.

Well, Sullivan, it's like this. Nobody gives a rat's bum whether Obama supports gay marriage or not. Really. Well, the MSM does, and that's why the "story" is plastered all over the place.
See, Andrew, the MSM refuses to dig down deep and investigate how Obama's policies, regulations, and general approach to being POTUS is sinking this country. That's what concerns us, not this nonsense.
The media and Obama are in sync!

You have to give the Obama campaign a lot of credit. Whether it is creating the phony issue of republicans denying women's right to purchase and use contraceptives or now gay marriage, Obama and his sycophants in the main stream media continue to divert attention from the disastrous American economy. Any number of polls show that jobs, the economy, the housing disaster, and energy prices are by far and away the leading concerns of the American public. Yet, the media continues to trot out all these other issues to avoid discussion of the overwhelming failure of the Obama administration to have a viable economic policy. Our economy is in crisis.
I seriously doubt the millions of Americans who have lost their jobs are sitting around discussing gay marriage, whether the government should provide free contraceptives to women or any of the other topics the media seems obsessed with.
As long as we fail to have a debate about the disastrous failure this administration has been in the area of the economy, Obama will likely be elected. His reelection team knows it and so does the left leaning (in the tank for Obama) media.

America's First Gay President

America's First Gay President
We already knew Barack Hussein Obama was America’s first semi-black president. Now, according to Newsweek, he is apparently also our first gay president!
I don’t know whether the editors at the magazine were trying to out our commander-in-chief as a homosexual or whether Michelle Obama was aware all these years that her hubby had been living in a closet.
When the editors featured the president on the cover of their latest edition with his head crowned with a multi-colored halo, they may have been figuratively crowning him with the title of King of America’s gay community as an adjunct to his already well-earned titles of Nobel Peace Prize Winner, “the Anointed One,” “Master of the Universe,” etc.
Unless it’s related to the president’s sudden, truly-miraculous, election-year evolution from being an adversary of same-sex marriage to finally comprehending the moraI and legal rightness of men marrying other men and women wedding other women, I really don’t grasp the editorial rationale of declaring Obama “The First Gay President.”
Perhaps if I read the leftist rag that is Newsweek, I’d comprehend more.
I do know that the rainbow halo is a nice touch beautifully complementing all the other halos superimposed on his head by his mainstream media over the last four years. . .

What "power" is that?
Submitted by CobraMan on Mon, 05/14/2012 - 10:11am.
The Power of Obama's words? What power is that? The last time I looked, nothing had changed after his Proclamation. The states that ban gay marriages still ban gay marriages. Gay men don't, shall we say, "enjoy" being able to file their tax returns jointly. The military doesn't recognize gay marriages. And the Catholic Church hasn't issued a retraction to its objections to gay marriages. So, what, exactly, has the President done that is so "powerful?"
The Wise and Powerful Obama announces his support of Gay Marriage, and nothing has changed, nothing at all. Just how "powerful" is he, outside the MSM that is?
