Ron Reagan: Obama 'Taking More Time Evolving' on Same-Sex Marriage 'Than Humans' Did 'From Apes'

Ron Reagan, the son of late President Ronald Reagan, came down strongly on Tuesday against Barack Obama's unwillingness to definitively support same-sex marriage.

Appearing on Hardball, the MSNBC political analyst said, "He’s taking more time evolving on this issue than humans took evolving from apes" (video follows with transcribed highlights and commentary):

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

Tuesday's Hardball began with the same-sex marriage issue being voted on in North Carolina and the political dangers for Obama taking a position on it.

"This whole evolving thing has really jumped the shark at this point," Reagan said. "I mean, he’s taking more time evolving on this issue than humans took evolving from apes."

"We all know he’s making a political calculation," he continued. "We could argue as to whether the political calculation is correct or incorrect, but the problem for him is it’s an obvious political calculation."

"He’s taking a civil rights issue and he’s trying to kind of, you know, straddle the fence on it, and it’s unseemly. He’s beginning to look ridiculous on this issue. He needs to just get off the fence and just go wherever they know he really is in the first place."

A few minutes later, host Chris Matthews asked, “If he loses the election because of this, and Mitt Romney walks into the White House, a man who says he will not evolve…is that good for the cause?”

Reagan responded, “It’s not good for the cause, although the cause will continue and will prevail just because of demographics if nothing else."

“I understand what the calculation is,” Reagan continued, “but I think the calculation is now incorrect. You can only make this political calculation when people don’t generally see it as a political calculation. If people know that you’re not actually speaking your mind and your heart, if you are inauthentic about this issue – and it is an important issue to some people, a lot of people – then you’re doing yourself harm. You’re actually harming your electoral prospects."

It's going to be very interesting to see how this issue plays out in the coming months now that Vice President Joe Biden, appearing on Sunday's Meet the Press, has expressed his support for same-sex marriage.

Stay tuned.

This guy is showing his idiocy. Educated evolutionist will tell you that humans did not evolve from apes. Liberals always claim they are smarter and conservatives dis-regard science. Yet, this guy obviously has no grasp of evolutionary theory and it shows.

This is an excellent example of another "free thinker" who simply takes what he has been told and regurgitates it with out any understanding or independent thought.

In Ron's case we can use the term "devolution" as he is continually devolving into more of a moron on a daily basis.

Obama is indeed straddling the fence on the gay-marriage issue, probably figuring that his media minions will cover for him like they always do. Unfortunately for him, this is one of the left's sacred cows and even his base is starting to tire of his feet-dragging on choosing a side of the fence to jump down on. The human gaffe machine that is Joe Biden opened up a BIG can of worms, and they're gonna have a hell of a time closing it...

Just an aside Ronny but if Rush had made a statement like the one you made (Obama and Apes in the same sentence, etc.) the jungle drums of "Racism" would be beating on high alert.

How convenient. He will not say what his position is on gay marriage until after the election. I didn't read the entire article, but knowing where it comes from it probably has the usual justifications about "nuanced" thought and "purposeful procrastination".

If Ear Leader comes out in favor of gay marriage before the election, he can say goodbye to much of the socially conservative Black and Latino vote. If he tries to stay neutral in order to avoid discussion, he can count on that being one of the questions he will face in the debates against Romney in the fall.

He is running on a treadmill faster and faster on the issue.

Evolving, what a concept

First stage: against gay marriage
Evolved stage: for gay marriage

What step could possibly be in the middle? I don't care one way or the other / it's a private matter?

How is this a federal issue? Oh, right. Commerce clause, plus a dash of Equal Protection (gotta use protection!). Everything is federal.

Gay marriage meets Obamacare

1. If gay marriage finally becomes the law across the country; and
2. If Obamacare is upheld by SCOTUS; and
3. If the requirement to provide contraception under Obamacare is also upheld; then
4. Will gay couples be unfairly burdened with mandated insurance costs for a service they will not need (because (a) gay men cannot get pregnant; and (b) if a gay woman gets pregnant, that is an intentional act)?

So, Obamacare will unequally and unfairly penalize gay married couples by requiring them to buy an insurance coverage they will not need or use.

Damn, I guess Pirogi was right: we needed to pass the bill to find out what kind of nonsense was in it.

"If he loses because of this..."

What? Obama may lose the election because he's uncommitted on Gay Marriage, then that means that Romney won because he's against it. Well, if that's true, then your "cause " is already lost, as it indicates that most[people are against Gay Marriage. So what good would it do for Obama to suddenly announce his acceptance of it? It would pretty much insure his loss this November. How good would that be for you "cause?

But here's the thing: the election isn't going to be based upon Gay Marriage, for not that many people actually CARE about it, no matter how hard you try to turn it into a wedge issue. But keep screaming into the wind about gay marriage, if you wish. That's what free speech is all about.

But, back to the REAL commie sissy...............hey, Ronnie ( could he have been in the all-girl group - Ronnie and the Ronettes - who were produced by the creepy and ultra-paranoid and perverted Phil Spector???), are you finally figuring out that your Boy Baraka is the BIGGEST phony to ever hit the big-time, and that he cares about you and your little agenda just about as much as he cares about anybody elses???? The ONLY thing that Boy BlahBlah cares about is hisself...........and if he thinks this 'gay marraige' thing-a-ma-jig (SUPER racist comment!!!) can help him with his agenda - he'll go for it. You HAVE noticed that a few members of his cabinet are out doing his bidding right now, with regards to this subject, right??? And even the ever-eloquent and gayfully glib Joe Plugs Bite-Me said that he would be 'totally comfortabel' with gay marraige.............which causes me to wonder what goes on in HIS private life, but.......................never mind!!!

Ron - two things

Submitted by chiefpayne on Wed, 05/09/2012 - 10:38am.

One, your "cause" will NOT continue NOR will it prevail because those "demographics" you speak of are showing 80% of the country DISAGREES with your cause - as evidenced by the fact that 40 states DISAPPROVE of homosexual marriage.

Second, the simple fact is, Obama ALWAYS speaks from a political calculation and, IMO, has NEVER spoken from his mind and heart. Therefore, he has ALWAYS seem inauthentic to those who ACTUALLY listen to him.
