PBS's Tavis Smiley: I Hate Seeing Obama 'Bragging About Having to Off Bin Laden'

It's becoming crystal clear that President Obama stepped on his foot while taking a victory lap for the assassination of Osama bin Laden one year ago.

Joining the growing list of even liberal media members offended by this shameless act of self-promotion was PBS's Tavis Smiley who on ABC's This Week Sunday actually said, "I just hate seeing the president play into the hands of the right by running around bragging about having to off Osama bin Laden...I don't think it's presidential" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

TAVIS SMILEY, PBS: But I'm just troubled by the fact that this president has sitting behind his desk a bust of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. I regard Dr. King as the greatest American this country has ever produced. We could debate that, but that's my assessment, he's the greatest American we've ever produced.

And for a person who talked about nonviolence, who the president quotes often, Dr. King once said that war is the enemy of the poor. And I just hate seeing the president play into the hands of the right by running around bragging about having to off Osama bin Laden. It's not -- I don't think it's presidential. I think it's bad strategy, with his playing into their hands. But more importantly for me, it's antithetical to the person he says is one of his great heroes.

Yikes.

This followed the perilously liberal Arianna Huffington expressing a similarly negative view on Monday's CBS This Morning about Obama's bin Laden ad.

Have we now entered a parallel universe where liberal commentators are starting to sound like conservative ones, or is the current White House resident beginning to make such a fool of himself that even his most ardent supporters are having a hard time restraining their disgust?

Smiley made at least one

Submitted by killa37 on Sun, 05/06/2012 - 2:38pm.

Smiley made at least one mistake in his statement - it should have been 'I hate seeing President Obama ACTING LIKE THE TRUE SELF-ABSORBED NARCISSIST that he is - bragging about having to off Osama Obama bin Laden.

What the hell does 'playing into the hands of the right' have to do with it???

That's Tavis' liberal

Submitted by motherbelt on Sun, 05/06/2012 - 2:56pm.

That's Tavis' liberal morality oozing out there.

Being a narcissistic braggart isn't bad in and of itself; it's bad because it gives ammunition to those on the right.

You're probably right about

Submitted by killa37 on Sun, 05/06/2012 - 3:41pm.

You're probably right about that one.................and I also disagree with Smiley as to his assessment that MLK is one of Boy Baraka's 'biggest heroes'. I think Boy Baraka's 'biggest hero' is HIMSELF!!! But he doesn't mind pulling MLK into any conversation that will further whatever agenda he is trying to push - just like those other race-baiters who claim to be the spiritual offspring of MLK.

I still say that if King were around these days, he'd take any number of this dopes back to the woodshed and bitch-slap their stupid faces for using his name in vain!!!

The great Tavis

Submitted by frank_andrini on Sun, 05/06/2012 - 3:17pm.

Apparently Mr. Smiley face doesn't realize the ammunition he has just supplied the Loyal Opposition despite the Republicans all but delivering the current Resident another term. Am I the only one here who realizes that Barack Hussein has it all but wrapped up? It really doesn't matter HOW MUCH we proclaim the truth- the truth is he's going to re- elected. "Might as well pack for Canada now" I said sarcastically.

Nap,

Submitted by Boudin on Sun, 05/06/2012 - 3:28pm.

You might be the only one I know who believes it. Obama is going to be a one term "martyr" of sorts, just watch. The dimwits have no rudder but hate at this point.

not the only

Submitted by frank_andrini on Sun, 05/06/2012 - 5:10pm.

Some of "The Brothers"- the realistic ones grounded in reality who DID NOT vote for The Man even though they shared a similar melanin content- too are genuinely concerned that Barack Hussein will win another term. Why? Because none of the Loyal Opposition has the sheer Charisma and support of the MSM necessary to win The Presidency.
So do not be too disappointed come November. It will give us all here at Newsbusters something to TALK about for another four years should The Lord Jehoshuah tarry in His return.

The real point of Smiley's

Submitted by robert108 on Sun, 05/06/2012 - 4:13pm.

The real point of Smiley's evaluation is that it is the typical left wing reaction to the success of military action in defeating terrorists. That's what he hates about obama's endzone antics.
It's what he means by "giving ammunition to the right", although if there really were a right wing in this country, the Zimmerman lynch mob would all be six feet under.

We hate seeing him too, Smiley...

Submitted by Slyrr on Sun, 05/06/2012 - 4:45pm.

Hey Smiley - the entire country 'hates seeing Obama' - PERIOD.

If a Liberal/Democrat politician/media figure wants to put their arms around you, or pat you on the back, all they're doing is looking for a good place to stick a knife.

Tavis

Submitted by HudsonRiverGirl on Sun, 05/06/2012 - 6:42pm.

Can Tavis explain just how this unseemly bragging about something accomplished by our military is 'playing into the hands of the right'???

Oh, I forgot, it's Bush's fault.

Obama did nothing and he couldn't have done less.

Submitted by Order270 on Sun, 05/06/2012 - 8:23pm.

He didn't act on Osama's location for what we know to be at least six weeks. Then he didn't act on a live target for at least 16 hours. Why did he leave our troops in danger? Why did he sleep on it? Why did he sign off on a plan to abdicate complete responsibility in case of a negative outcome?

Face it Obama, you only gave approval because you couldn't figure out a way to say no.

Finally learning??

Submitted by fatboy on Mon, 05/07/2012 - 10:21am.

"But more importantly for me, it's antithetical to the person he says is one of his great heroes."

Maybe he's learning that...as always...Obama just shoots off his mouth and will say anything if he thinks it will benefit him. I'd be willing to bet that if we knew the REAL Obama, everything we think about him is true.

For me, I always believe the DIRECT OPPOSITE to anything he says and find that I am much closer to the truth.
