Martin Bashir Tells Two Democrats ‘If There Isn’t a War on Women Most of Us Must Be Ignorant’

MSNBC’s Martin Bashir on Friday might have said the wisest thing he’s ever uttered on television.

Speaking with two Democratic members of Congress about goings on in the House Friday, Bashir said referring to Republicans, “If there isn’t a war on women most of us must be ignorant” (video follows with transcribed highlights and commentary):

The show began with Bashir predictably hyperventilating over a compromise House bill passed Friday that would extend low interest rates on student loans paid for with cuts to a preventive healthcare fund.

The perilously liberal MSNBC host of course accused the GOP of intentionally harming women with this bill, and aired clips of female Democrats including former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) saying, “It’s like they’ve rubbed two stones together and they’re playing with fire...Unfortunately they came back with what seemed natural to them – let’s take the money out of women’s health rather than subsidies to big oil.”

Bashir then introduced Congresswoman Donna Edwards (D-Md.) and Congressman John Yarmuth (D-Ky.) - I guess there weren’t any Republicans around to discuss this with! – to further harangue the GOP.

The host’s first question was, “Speaker John Boehner says that Democrats are fabricating a so-called war on women, but how else to understand an approach to this student loans issue whereby Republicans want to fund it from healthcare resources?”

Can you say “Softball?”

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

After the Democrats had free rein to say whatever the heck they wanted about this issue without any challenge from someone with an opposing view, Bashir deliciously asked, “Why then, sir, does John Boehner, Senator John McCain, and everyone else including Mitt Romney, the presumptive nominee, why do they all deny that there is a war on women when they would rather deny women access to important healthcare provisions but keep subsidies for their friends in the oil industry? I mean, if they’re not, if there isn’t a war on women, most of us must be ignorant then because it seems that way.”

What is “Most of you must be ignorant,” Alex?

That's correct, and thank you for playing our game. Don’t forget the lovely parting gifts.

You really can’t make this stuff up.

The oil industry does NOT receive subsidies. They are entitled to certain deductions as provided for in the tax code, just as all businesses are. The Democrats and their media surrogates continue to push the "subsidies" lie.

Not to liberals.

Submitted by motherbelt on Sat, 04/28/2012 - 7:00am.

Anything not paid for by someone else is "denied."

If an insurance company doesn't pay for a particular procedure or test, they are "denying" it to the patient.

If they won't pay for contraception, they're "denying" it.

If government doesn't fund ESCR, they are "forbidding" it.

They actually do think they have a "right" to things for free.

Also conveniently left out of Bashir's (and the Democrats') argument about this so-called "women's health fund" is that the Republicans decided to use that because they say it is an Obama slush fund.

Republicans fired back at the veto threat, accusing the president of playing politics. “The president is so desperate to fake a fight that he’s willing to veto a bill to help students over a

slush fund that he advocated cutting in his own budget. It’s a simple as this: Republicans are acting to help college students and the president is now getting in the way,” a spokesman for House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, said in a statement.

The White House concedes the president is proposing gradual and targeted reductions to the fund, but, according to a White House spokesman “reducing it and gutting it completely are two very different things.”

But don't count on anyone at MSNBC bringing both sides of the argument to the table.  That's not in their mission statement.

Yes, little Marty, you are ignorant.

How dimwitted does someone have to be to believe that the repubs actually want a “war against women”?

Seriously, how simple-minded does someone have to be to actually believe this media-generated nonsense?

Unfortunately dimwits such as these constitute about 60% of the population now, thanks to the dumbing down of the country over the last couple generations.

With Obama and his flunkies, it's all about the distraction of the week, and for good reason.

The country is ripe for the plucking.

Thanks, liberals!!

Pure Venom

Submitted by giatn on Sat, 04/28/2012 - 4:55pm.

My revulsion at Bashir and his egregious mischaracterization of the news
makes me want to call INS to check his papers (as if they check anyone).
There is something particularly offensive about a foreigner professing to
have intimate knowledge of the American political scene. Wasn't his claim
to fame a vile interview with Michael Jackson? The only comforting
thing is how few even watch this man. The real war is not on women
but on the entire country waged by Obama's clueless economic
misadventures. While I am forced to admire the extraordinary skill of
Obama's propaganda machine to shift the focus from the $16 trillion
national debt to the mandate for the Catholic Church to provide "free"
contraceptives, I am horrified by how easily duped women have been.
