Frank Rich Whines About 'Sugar Daddies: The Old, White, Rich Men Who Are Buying This Election'

Sunday must have been reverse racism day for past and current New York Times employees.

After David Brooks and Helene Cooper expressed concern about there possibly being two "white guys" on the Republican presidential ticket, former Times columnist turned New York magazine flame thrower Frank Rick wrote "Sugar Daddies: The Old, White, Rich Men Who Are Buying This Election":

Sugar daddies—whom I’ll define here as private donors or their privately held companies writing checks totaling $1 million or more (sometimes much more) in this election cycle—are largely a Republican phenomenon, most of them one degree of separation from Karl Rove and his unofficial partners in erecting a moneyed shadow GOP, David and Charles Koch. At last look, there were 25 known sugar daddies on the right (or more, if you want to count separately the spouses and children who pitch in).

So what's the real reason Rich is angry?

While Obama has his own super-PAC–“social welfare” nonprofit combo, the proceeds totaled only a pathetic $6.7 million last year. A paltry $100,000 contribution is all it takes for a Democratic donor to get priority access to the White House, according to the New York Times. George Soros is on the sidelines, and Obama so far has claimed only two sugar daddies of his own: Bill Maher and DreamWorks co-founder Jeffrey Katzenberg.

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

If Obama was raising money like he did in 2008, you think Rich would be carping and whining about old, white, rich men buying this election?

He's just frustrated that at this point in the campaign the old, white, rich men are bankrolling the white guys his former colleagues Brooks and Cooper are so afraid of.

But since these New Yorkers are looking at things in reverse, why don't we do the same?

Imagine for a moment that some of America's wealthiest African-Americans - Oprah Winfrey, Sean "Diddy" Combs, Robert Johnson, Tiger Woods, Magic Johnson, Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter, Sheila Johnson, and Tyler Perry - created a Super PAC to get Obama reelected.

Would Rich be writing an article about rich black people buying this election?

Hardly.

And what would happen if any conservative commentator said or wrote such a thing?

It wouldn't be pretty, would it?

Maybe more importantly, why is it that liberals don't understand that racism won't end in this country until they stop using race to divide us?

I know, I know. That, too, is a rhetorical question for without the race card, the Democratic Party would lose every national election.

Folks like Brooks, Cooper, and Rich know this - and that's why they keep playing it.

Who are they?

"Sugar daddies—whom I’ll define here as private donors or their privately held companies writing checks totaling $1 million or more (sometimes much more) in this election cycle."

It's interesting that he never bother to name any of these "sugar daddies," with the single exception of the Koch brothers and Bill Maher. No mention of million dollar donation to Obama's campaign by the SEIU COPE Union. I guess unions don't count.

Corzine is raising a butt load of money for the chosen one.

And Soros. He's giving a few trillion dollars, I think.

And the old rich white guys in Hollywood are giving, too.

So, his point is valid.

Little Billy Ayers is also a old white rich guy who has been screwing the country his entire life, so we need to add him to the list.

Funny thing about all of this...

is that Obama won't share any money raised with the DNC or other candidates. Could that be because he can keep what he doesn't use in his campaign? He's one greedy SOB in my opinion.

He will keep it

Submitted by gwalt on Mon, 04/23/2012 - 11:21am.

I still don't believe Obama will go all the way to November. There is a reason he is not sharing his boatload of money. If he doesn't run, he gets to keep it.

Sounds more like Rich is jealous they are not HIS sugar daddies.

Submitted by drsamherman on Mon, 04/23/2012 - 9:50am.

Obama's fundraising is basically the same as last-time. Remove all of the normal safeguards against credit card fraud, and the donors are Donald Duck, Mickey Mouse and others probably using the same pre-loaded debit cards that all but untraceable. 10 to 1, as MB points out, is a huge advantage and we're still technically in primary season.

Maybe Frankie was hoping one of the rich "Sugar Daddies" would keep him to a lifestyle he has become accustomed to as a drama-critic-turned-POTUS-sycophant.

While I agree with Noel, if Democrats and lefty MSM continue to play the "race card hand," the 2012 shellacking that's targeting them now will make the 2010 shellacking appear like it was a BIG WIN.

What a TOOL!

Submitted by Cappmann1962 on Mon, 04/23/2012 - 12:20pm.

The dimocraps have been buying elections (or trying to) for decades. Why do you thing they're all about unions and giveaway social programs. Why do you think they're borrowing our country into bankruptcy? Why are union bosses, supportive CEOs, and media talking heads given czar jobs or cabinet posts in dimocrat administrations? Why is legislation supporting specific businesses whose CEOs adamantly support dims fast-tracked through congress? Why are organizations, such as ACORN and the NBPP ignored when they commit crimes such as voter intimidation and fraud on behalf of dims?

Don't talk to me about buying elections, you a$$hat! Look to your own party first.

Union bosses don't like being made fun of like that. Besides, they ain't gonna "buy" it. What's the point of being head of a criminal communist organization if you can't steal an election or two?

Its only the supporting story that delves into misinformation. "Sugar Daddies: The Old, White, Rich Men Who Are Buying This Election" is a perfect description of the Russian oligarchs and politicians that donate to the Obama campaign through credit card transactions with origin tracing disabled.
