CNN's Crowley Asks Rep. Cummings: Are You More Concerned for Obama's Safety Because He's Black Than You Were Bush?

CNN's Candy Crowley on Sunday asked Congressman Elijah Cummings (D-Md.) if he had more concerns for the safety of President Obama because he’s African-American than he had for George Bush.

This came near the end of a discussion on State of the Union dealing with the recent Secret Service sex scandal in Colombia (video follows with transcribed highlights and commentary):

"You have mentioned a couple of times that folks in your district ask you with regularity about the safety of this president," Crowley said.

"Do you have more concerns for the safety of this president because he’s African-American than you would have had for say a George Bush or those that, you know?"

Cummings replied, "First of all, let me say I have concern about all presidents and everybody who’s seeking Secret Service guards."

"But the fact is African-American people have always expressed concern to me about this president," Cummings continued. "They would see, Candy, folk around this president with guns strapped on their legs, and they’d say, you know, how can that be? And they worry, and they’re concerned."

So they are saying that the next time I go to an Obama rally, I can wear a "gun strapped on my leg?"

"how can that be," indeed?

I had nooooooo idea that we could walk around the president armed. Glad to know that.

WTH is that even supposed to mean? Black people see armed guards around the POTUS and think that he's in danger from them? The only conclusion to draw from that is that black people assume that white people, security professionals included, all want to shoot Obama. That's not only creepy as hell, it's bigoted as hell.

Reagan was shot just 69 days into his Presidency. There has been no incident with obama even though he has been in front of audiences almost daily for over three years. So I guess being Black isn't that important of a factor for his safety.

Brain Candy is pushing the same meme that Chris the Wide Mouth Fog, Larry the Forehead O'Donnell, and all the other pyromaniacs are. Opponents of O'Bama are racist and there's an assassination a-comin', just get ready for it.

It's like people lining the streets to see the high-speed chase on TV, just hoping the big crash happens in front of them. I bet MFNBC, CNN, and all the other already have prepared graphics for such a calamity. After all, it will be the biggest breaking news flash evah since 9/11 and 11/22.

Has any commentator asked a white politician that question?

Submitted by CO2Maker on Sun, 04/22/2012 - 12:45pm.

Has anyone asked any white politician, Republican or Democrat, that question? I can't remember. Not even Nancy Pirogi or Harry 'The Pomegranate Kid' Reid. Not even Bernie Sanders or Dennis Spaceship Kucinich.

None that I recall.

Asking a black Congressman (or is that "Congressperson of color"?) if he worries about Obama being assassinated is just one of many subtle ways that the oh-so-PC liberal commentators constantly parade their own racist attitudes, the "bigotry of low expectations" kind of racism practiced by Massuh Chris and Miss Candy toward the "good" CBC politicians who take care of the House while the others are working in the fields of unimproved racist (Red State) America.

"First of all, let me say I have concern about all presidents and everybody who’s seeking secret service guards."

That's got to be the dumbest statement ever uttered by a politician. Seeking? Get real! Those "guards," which are called agents, are assigned, by law in most cases, not sought. They're not the Pinkerton National Detective Agency.

"They would see, Candy, folk around this president with guns strapped on their legs, and they’d say, you know, how can that be?"

Dude! What century do you think we're in, anyways! The only time you'll see a "gun strapped on the leg" is in a Western! What do you think, that people walk around carrying Colt Peacemakers nowadays? How stereotypical of you!

I do have one minor disagreement. The dumbest statement ever uttered by a politician was Rep. Hank Johnson's statement that Guam would capsize because of the weight of additional Marines being deployed to that island.

Wac-jobs

Submitted by vote24 on Sun, 04/22/2012 - 11:50am.

B.S. meter burned out. It is time we defined the enemy of a successful America. They have coelesced around and loose theme of Comunism, Marxism, Fascism, Socialism, Social Justice, Militant Race Selfishness, Gang Bangers, Environmental Totalitarians, Really Really Indoctrinated College Students, Vegans, Government Workers Union Leader Thugs, and Propaganda Journalists. The list could go on, but they are largely the same group of Wac-jobs. Their arguments individually fall apart when applied to logic and reason. Therefore the main reason they fight so hard is due to...indoctrination. The minds of the people have been swayed by...handouts, free stuff, video games, movies and tv, leftist union schooling, entertainers and bad mentors. The list goes on, but they are all diversions to what treachery the powerful are perpetrating. By defining the opposition, we can better focus our strategies to what can only be success. It just depends on how messy the Wac-jobs want to make it. SO I prefer we refer to them as Wac-jobs. It's accurate, appropriate, pointed, unapologetic, and kinda funny. Fell free to make your suggestions.

I have no respect for Cummings. He has tried with all his might to stonewall the Fast and Furious investigation, He went as far as holding a forum, the MSM called it a minority hearing, to where the only thing talked about was gun control. He makes a dumbass statement about people being around Obama with guns, All of us that have a brain know that is pure BS. He's like all other libs who trash guns but has 1/2 dozen armed guards around him.

I am slowly becoming convinced...

Submitted by Fenwick on Sun, 04/22/2012 - 12:19pm.

... that Obama is going to lose this election by a large margin precisely because mainstream Americans are sick of this baloney. In their minds, they're saying, "All right already! Obama's black - we get it, we get it! After four years can we move on now, or do we have to mention it in every sentence and on every issue where the President is concerned?"

In spite of what the MSM portrays, the vast majority of Americans are NOT racist... and they are getting eye-rolling tired of hearing about it when there are more important issues that concern them.

Submitted by ant on Sun, 04/22/2012 - 1:21pm.

Walking to the bus stop in a predominantly white neighborhood at night, I encountered a black woman and her teenage daughter on the side of the road with a flat tire, I stopped, changed the tire for them, they thanked me and went on their way. The same scenario would most likely not have played out so well for a white woman stranded in West Philly. So, who's really in danger?...Really?
