Greg Gutfeld: 'Asking a Comedian to Make Fun of Obama Is Like Asking a Priest to Mock Christ'
Greg Gutfeld on Monday attacked comics for not making jokes about the current White House resident.
Appearing on Fox News's The Five, Gutfeld said, "Asking a comedian to make fun of Obama is like asking a priest to mock Christ" (video follows with transcript and absolutely no need for additional commentary):
GREG GUTFELD: So comedians and their adoring media are in a crisis: How do you make fun of Mitt Romney when you're dumb? Well, you can keep doing the rich thing like commentator Paul Begala. FYI: I hear he is playing Paul Bunyan's big toe in an upcoming bio. It's true. When comparing Mitt to Obama, Paul said Romney could buy and sell him 100 times. Glad I didn't say that.
Anyway, now hacks are comparing Mitt to Mad Men’s Don Draper. Yeah, that’s smart. Compare a Mormon family man to a hard-drinking, hard-smoking ladies' man. What is the connection here? Well, they're both good looking and successful. Clever.
And how sad is it that comics just can't get a handle on Obama even when those ears look so tempting? In the Times yesterday, Maureen Dowd chatted with Saturday Night Live over how tough political comedy is. Says Seth Meyers, “Comedy writers are incredibly promiscuous and we want as many targets as possible.” He left out the word "Republican" before targets because I don’t see much else on that show.
Look, asking a comedian to make fun of Obama is like asking a priest to mock Christ. If you look at government as religion there is only one almighty savior, and you don’t commit sacrilege – and also, you want to keep your job.
Which is why comics can only make fun of stay-at-home moms, holy men, and aborsh. Yeah, aborsh – the cute phrase Sarah Silverman coined while illustrating her fake before and after abortion pictures on Twitter. So, instead of speaking truth to power, instead mock the powerless. That’s as edgy as Paul Begala’s head.

I'm sure comedians everywhere are really...non-plussed.

C'mon Greg...you should know better than to use the words 'comedian' and Sarah Silverman anywhere near each other. I've been to funerals that were funnier than she is.

You can only control those who fear being called a racist with the race card. Two kinds of people can not be controled by the race card, those who are not racists and know with confidence that it is a lie and have no fear, and those who are racists and proud of it. We need to stamp out all forms of bigotry and not confuse people with morals as haters i.e. Christians who view homosexuality as a sin but treat gays as Jesus would, with love but not accepting the sin as ok.

Truth to power indeed.
Lib 'comedians' can't get enough of making fun of conservatives of any stripe, and nothing's sacred. 'Talk slut', 'retard baby', 'dim bulb', 'uncle tom' - any of that ring a bell?
By all accounts, Obama and his entire failed cabinet are low-hanging fruit. Lib comedians (with all their purported wit and cleverness) could be crucifying Obama every night with as much material as he's practically gift-wrapped for them.
And yet... not a peep from any of them.
I guess they're not as 'edgy' and 'daring' as they like to pretend. When the Democrat party cracks the whip, these daring, edgy comedians turn into pussy-cats.
Meow for us, Letterman.
Always liked this one...

So Sarah Silverman's grotesque mockery of killing her unborn child is supposed to be sophisticated comedy. But Rush Limbaugh's mockery of Sandra Fluke's childish whining over having to pay for her own birth control is an assault on all women?
They killed comedy: It should be called Saturday Night Dead.

Liberals will try to convince you that conservatives arent funny because they aren't subversive enough.
But there is nothing subversive about refusing to make jokes about the president because you agree with his politics.
By my count, this season SNL has done 18 (!) different skits about or featuring Mitt Romney. (Also nearly every "weekend update" segment starts with one or two cracks on republicans. I have reviewed every weekend update segment and did not find a single "joke" about Obama.)
Have many skits has Obama appeared in? TWO. thats it- Just two appearances on SNL all year. Who exactly is president again? You almost wouldn’t know if you relied on SNL for your political information.
Here they are:
http://www.nbc.com/saturday-night-live/video/cosby-obama/1386282
this one is a Cosby show-Obama parody. Its so tame you would think it aired on Sesame Street, not SNL. If we all could be skewered this lovingly! They must have written the skit literally with kid gloves.
http://www.nbc.com/saturday-night-live/video/obama-in-one-cold-open/1371743
This one is Obama's character whining about how unpowerful the presidency is- and he puts congress and Grover Nordquist (remember when he was villain of the month for liberals?) well above the presidency. Total garbage. The SNL writers think that Obama in character cracking jokes is comedy? Please. Its almost as if they have no idea what to do with Obama, so they just send him up there to tell one liners. But I guess it must be hard to make fun of someone you desperately want to see re-elected right?
In fact, here are all the Obama skits SNL has ever done:
http://www.nbc.com/saturday-night-live/video/search?searchFor=obama
This is a layup for MRC- you can see the softball sketches SNL has written about Obama over the years. Is this even comedy, or is it fan fiction?
SNL has never written a joke at Obama's expense. Comedy is clearly over at NBC now- The "not ready for primetime players" has been replaced with such mainstream writers that they get their skits approved by the white house ahead of time, and save their best jokes for the white house correspondence dinners. SOO subversive, so edgy!
I think the show should be called 'saturday night dead' from now on, since comedy has died a slow painful death at the hands of NBC.
Liberals will try to convince

Liberals will try to convince you that conservatives arent funny because they aren't subversive enough.
Conservatives are plenty subversive. Take someone like Dennis Miller, one of the few conservative comedians. Sometimes you'll get others like Denis Leary or Louis Black knocking the liberal establishment a little. But that's about it for mainstream comedy.
Over the years the lib comedians have driven the conservative audiences away. Comedy audiences now expect jokes about Michele Bachman and pedophile priests. A joke about Michelle Obama is as popular as a fart in an elevator. Comedians know this and pander to it. And talk about ironic, conservatives generally let comedians get by with a bit of mocking, liberals have zero tolerance for it.
The hallmark of comedy is to make stabs at those in power, i.e. the Man. So when libs comedians self-censor jokes about the liberal establishment, they've essentially tied one hand behind their backs. It must be tough to be a comedian these days. After all, how many Saran Palin jokes can be done in one routine?

Is when Romney curb stomps Obama, how many of these "edgy" comedians will suddenly give out a long primal scream of rage, then rant about leaving the contry to go live in a nice happy socialist country... somewhere in europe..
oh wait,..
they have 80% tax rates... maybe some Caribbean island or something... taxes are wonderful.. but I mean,.. for YOU.. not um,.. for uh,.. us.
So they do what they did in 2000, in 88 and 80,.. grumble,.. whine,.. and in the end, stay where they can live a fat pampered lifestyle...
edgy hypocrites..
all.
