Zimmerman Attorney: 'It's Been Open Season' - 'The Media Has Just Absolutely Destroyed Him Unfairly'
As NewsBusters has been reporting since the Trayvon Martin shooting occurred in Sanford, Florida, America's press have predictably declared George Zimmerman guilty before an arrest has even been made with some actually calling for his head on a platter.
On Wednesday, Zimmerman's attorney Craig Sonner appeared on CNN's Piers Morgan Tonight saying, "It's been open season on just destroying this man's credibility...The media has just absolutely destroyed him unfairly" (video follows with transcript and commentary):
CRAIG SONNER, ATTORNEY FOR GEORGE ZIMMERMAN: The one thing we know as a fact is that George Zimmerman was attacked by Trayvon Martin. He was punched in the nose, his head was beaten on the ground. And he acted in self-defense when Trayvon Martin was shot.
PIERS MORGAN, HOST: But they are suppositions, not facts. That's not a fact. That's supposition based on what George Zimmerman has told you and told police. But in terms of factual evidence, that's still not clear. It's not factual evidence yet.
SONNER: That's right. That's why I'm telling everyone to wait before you rush to judgment. Wait till the facts come in. Wait till this case goes to court. Wait till the facts come in. Admissible evidence in court, not what's admissible evidence in public opinion because what's admissible in public opinion are doctored 911 tapes and whatever anyone else wants to say about George Zimmerman. It's been open season on just destroying this man's credibility, destroying who he was, and he can no longer go back to the person he was, being involved in his community, mentoring children.
You've destroyed him – the public, the media has just absolutely destroyed him unfairly. And the conclusions you're drawing in your questions to me show that you've already reached that same conclusion too. And what I want you to do and what I want America to do is to step back, use your cool head and listen to the facts. Listen to what comes out. Listen to what the police investigation shows, and I think when you do that, you will see that George Zimmerman acted in self-defense.
Media have certainly destroyed Zimmerman unfairly and irresponsibly. The bigger issue is what happens if the grand jury doesn't find cause to prosecute him?
After weeks of folks like MSNBC's Al Sharpton and others turning this into a race war, it seems quite possible that Rodney King-style riots will occur in Florida and maybe elsewhere.
This is what happens when a perilously liberal and activist media try someone on the airwaves and in print before all the facts are in.
Will they ever learn?

should be the day that his attorneys file civil suits against every hostile 'news reporter' individually, the company/station they work for, and the national networks for broadcasting the 'known to be doctored' footage and tapes.

"They" don't really care what happens to Zimmerman or if he is actually prosecuted or not. They've already convicted him anyway.
The media and the liberals have latched on to this particular event because they think it gives them yet another "foot in the door" to try and take away the gun rights from Americans. They are already talking about "revisiting" the "stand-your-ground" laws in all the States that have passed them. The flip side of that coin is the sumbit-to-the-criminal-or-get-killed law. They will use this as yet another rant against "regular" people having any weapons at all.

Seems to me that the physical evidence supports Zimmerman. That the young man ( Martin ) ended up shot and dead is a shame, but bad things happen to good people. All the other "circus" is directed at forwarding a political agenda, as racial division energizes the base ( blacks ) and drives up their turnout. The most cynical strategy is one that will create a bubbling overt hatred in a social sense for a political purpose. But they don't care...they'll use the Martin young man and his parents as long as they're useful, then toss them away...

The propaganda media and the race pimps do not need facts or evidence to convince the stupid to believe them. The law is for suckers and the liberal accused not for the average American. They say they want justice but begin their story with "White Hispanic" what dictionary did they find that phrase? They begin the story as a racist argument and do not even try and be even handed in their reporting. They refuse to wait until real evidence is presented by professional investigations because they know that facts may not support their storyline.

I remember Dr.King's marches and I remember seeing "White" people in those marches and I remember "White" people providing the support in cash and labor for that cause. Riots start in florida, gain steam from Jackson and Sharpton rhetoric, but stay somewhat localized.
Month or two before the election, they start spreading across the country, slowly, looking in every "red state" for possible targets to keep the flame burning.
If it looks like the "O" will win, they mellow out, and Obama takes credit for subduing it.
If it looks like the "O" will lose, they stage a giant "race rally" and "get out the minority vote" for election day, but as they assemble, they instead kick it off as riots on pre-election Monday, the current POTUS decides to postpone the election to prevent voters being disenfranchised.

I have reserved judgment on this case because I did not know all the facts. Last night I saw George Zimmerman's father on the news, who gave Zimmerman's account. It sounds to me like Trayvon Martin jumped Zimmerman, plain and simple, and all the evidence and eyewitness accounts back up this version of events.
What the media and activists have done in this case will backfire on them as the truth continues to come out.

Hysterical black congresswomen haven’t been heard from in a few days after venting their rage at the man who shot and killed Trayvon Martin in Sanford, Florida but agitators such as Rev. Jesse Jackson, the New Black Panther Party, and Rev. Al Sharpton haven’t skipped a beat in their vitriolic abuse of George Zimmerman.
Jackson absurdly said Wednesday morning that, ”If a white kills a black we revolt, if a black kills a white it’s jail time, we kill each other it’s Miller time. It’s as if somebody has the right to kill us,” the NBPP reiterated its million dollar bounty on Zimmerman’s head, and Sharpton has been invited to the White House for Easter.
As the city of Sanford nervously awaits the ruling by the special prosecutor assigned to investigate the shooting, Angela Corey, it’s preparing for the worst.
After all the baseless, inflammatory rhetoric that has been spewed, Sanford officials are expecting social upheavals that could rival the aftermath of the Rodney King riots of twenty years ago.
Sanford’s emergency management team has met frequently with Attorney General Holder’s Department of Justice, extra police and fire department officers are on standby, and neighboring towns have been asked to be at the ready.
Considering the extremist and violent threats already made in the matter, Florida’s National Guard could be called out should the special prosecutor find that Zimmerman was justified in shooting Martin and that his jailing would be a miscarriage of justice.
Can’t we all just get along, at least until the investigation is complete and justice served?

Once the DA has the signature on the complaint, the DA can file criminal charges against the TV stations, radio stations, local newspuppets, Spike lee, Rosie O'Donnell, Al sharpton, Jesse Jackson, the leader of the New Black Cancer movement, and any other for willful endangerment of Mr. Zimmermans life, as well as other related charges.
Mr. Zimmermans attorney should have already compiled a list and filed civil suits against each of the above named co-conspirators for, literally, hundreds of millions of dollars.
With the agitators locked up in jail without bond due to the undeniable flight risk, the 'rioters' will be leaderless.
