Santorum Slams NYT Reporter: 'Stop Lying' - 'Quit Distorting Our Words' - 'It's Bulls--t!'

Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum had a very testy exchange with New York Times reporter Jeff Zeleny at a campaign stop in Wisconsin Sunday evening.

In the midst of the encounter, Santorum angrily said, "Stop lying...Quit distorting our words...It's bulls--t!" (video follows with transcribed highlights and commentary):

After Zeleny asked Santorum, “You said that Mitt Romney was the worst Republican in the country – is that true," the former Pennsylvania senator incredulously asked, “What speech did you listen to? Stop lying!"

Santorum continued, “I said he was the worst Republican to run on the issue of ObamaCare, and that’s what I was talking about. I have said uniquely, for every speech I give, he is uniquely disqualified to run against Barack Obama on the issue of health care.”

“Would you guys quit distorting what I’m saying?” asked Santorum.

Zeleny wasn’t listening, and responded, “Do you think he is the worst Republican?”

Santorum didn’t let him finish and instead reiterated, “To run against Barack Obama on the issue of health care, because he fashioned the blueprint. I've been saying it in every speech. Quit distorting our words. If I see it, it's bulls—t. C'mon man, what are you doing?"

Zeleny then asked, “Who’s distorting your words?”

Santorum shot back, “You did by asking me that question.”

“You sound upset about something, Senator,” Zeleny replied.

“I’m upset when the media distorts what I say,” replied Santorum. “Yeah, I am. I do get upset.”

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

As Santorum kept walking down the line of supporters wanting autographs, he continued glaring at Zeleny adding, “Because you knew exactly what I was saying, and you misrepresented it.”

“Are you guys in the business of reporting the truth, or are you here to try to spin and make news?” Santorum asked Zeleny. “Stop it!”

Shaking his head in aggravation, Santorum continued, “You know, you guys don’t care about the truth at all, do you? You really don’t. Asking that question shows me you don’t care at all about the truth.”

And here's the master of lies

Submitted by ThisnThat on Mon, 03/26/2012 - 9:00am.

o'bama -- today, Monday -- just told Russia: "Give me some slack. I need to lie to the American people about misslie defense, first, to get elected. THEN -- I'll have all the room I need to come back to my Russian friends and make a real agreement with you to sell America down the river". http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2012/03/26/obama-tells-medvedev-hell-have-more-flexibility-after-election-during-missile/

My God. He's an out-and-out traitor, and he simply doesn't give a damn anymore who knows it, because he thinks he has enough obamabots and blank ballots available to win the election. What a son-of-a-bi$ch.

Proof positive

Submitted by jon_torlin on Mon, 03/26/2012 - 9:35am.

This is proof positive that the country is all but on life support with several plugs to choose from all having the same effect: rendering the USA as we know it dead.  And the media has been complicit in getting there.  Which is ironic, once the US is dead, what the hell does the media think it will do when the fit hits the shan for them?  Anything that happens in this country happens to them too.

As to the several plugs, some of it could happen as soon as the next month or so with ObeymeCare.  If SCOTUS doesn't rule that crap unconstitutional, that's it.  We're done as a country with a constitutional represenative republic.  By all rights, they SHOULD declare it null and void and have it tossed out.  But we have people there that think otherwise.  That's another plug.

One's almost pulled all the way, which is Congress itself, they are taking NO action against the dictator in chief with his actions, especially his recent ones, not counting his conversation with medved of Russia.  By all rights, they can have the US military depose this dictator but they refuse to for various reasons, all of them illogical.

The biggest plug is the American people.  That's something that's been a bane to freedom lovers like myself and many of us on here, that he could somehow get re-elected(nevermind getting elected in the first place).  If that happens, that's the plug that'll be pulled out all the way.

God help us.

This is a site that exposes and combats media bias. People come here, then prove that they have fallen for the media bias. (see recent Tom Blumer posts). I predict this thread will be full of comments agreeing with the AP & NYT distortions.

The media bias is working. Look how many Conservatives it has fooled.

People learned *nothing* from the pile-on smear attacks directed at Sarah Palin.

Get a grip folks. Go back and read Tom's posts and then the comments that follow. The discussion is on MEDIA BIAS, lies and intentional misrepresentation of the news, not whether you want Santorum or Romney. I've been pretty stunned by how many are falling right into the game the media is playing. I'm very sorry to say my 24 year niece is one of them. She's decided that since no one has the 'right' to tell her whether she can use "birth control" she's 'just not going to vote for president.'
So there, that'll show em!

It's grow up time people and time to use intellect and fact, not emotion. We've been bitching about Santorum and the GOP not showing any fight. Yet when he does we bitch because of the way he goes about it.

What is it you expect, total victory?

Submitted by WhoIsJohnGalt on Mon, 03/26/2012 - 11:29am.

Your comment reminds me of the guy in the midst of a historic battle during a war. As his side continues to advance, while not yet achieving total victory and annihilation of the enemy, he looks around and sees some of his fallen comrades and says, "See, they're still killing us, so we can't therefore be winning".

Public awareness of media bias is at an all-time high. Yes, they still do it and get away with it sometimes, but that number is on a downward trajectory. But as evidenced by Newt's behavior and audience responses during the early debates...the MSM no longer holds total and unchallenged sway over the news of the day.

Head down, rifle up.

Can I now make a prediction? You won't see any alliances between Romney and Santorum. In other words, don't expect to see Santorum as a running mate. Too bad. Very much in agreement there Bru.

There were only two things that the candidates should have been attacking during this election season, Obama, the do nothing Congress and the media lapdogs.

Ok that was three things. :-)

All the candidates should have been putting forth their ideas and plans for getting the country back on track. Newt from what I saw avoided attacking the other candidates and did attack Obama and call out the media quite often. The other candidates, especially in the debates, fell for the media trap and tried tearing up each other as much as possible.

And you know something? The only candidate that even HAD a plan was Herman Cain. How long did he last after the high tech lynching he was subjected to?

The policy differences between Romney and Obama are huge with free enterprise and the support of business growth being the most critical one. A second Obama term will me higher taxes accross the board, soaring gas prices, more presidential mandates (with no congressional approval) and higher unemployment. If that isn't important....then I guess stay home and let Obama win.

The policy differences between Santorum and Obama are huge....

Get the point? The Romneybots are the ones who are doing so much harm to the Republican cause by falling all over themselves to see who is the one who gets infront of the media and agrees with them when the media distorts or takes out of complete context Santorum's words.

On healthcare, Romney and Obama are one and the same. You may also want to explain Romney's donations to Planned Parenthood. That'll play "well" with Conservatives.

I don't want a pure candidate as the Romneybots love to claim is the only thing Conservatives want, I want a Conservative candidate in at least MOST issues. Cbeyer and his ilk seem to want a barely economic conservative candidate who could careless about social issues.

So foolish of cbeyer and his ilk, they don't realize that as social issues are won by Liberals, the economy tanks along with them.

Submitted by Boudin on Mon, 03/26/2012 - 9:21pm.

The one we had around here, would run into parked cars, lawn mowers and you. Big guy too, knocked me down several times playing ball.

We re-named him Fetch, if you left him outside by himself, he would drag everything in the yard, shop, and the neighbors yard up to the side door, everything if you gave him to much time. OCD dont cover it.

Submitted by Liberallies on Tue, 03/27/2012 - 5:08pm.

cbeyer,

Hmmmm....sure, I have been known to blather. But do you think the stupid stuff you are saying about Santorum is not blather from you? Of course it is.

And yes, every single Romneybot that I have encountered, whether in my family, friends or political rallies has the same ammunitions against Santorum ALL of it based on what the main stream media is saying about Santorum.

Romneybots hate the media, except when the media distorts Santorum's words.

Go spend time with Michael Medved, he is another irrational Conservative who has fallen all over himself to give 100% support to Romney.

Medved was so bad yesterday that he was all over the place with his pretzel logic defending Romney from Romneycare. At least he was honest enough to say that Obamacare WILL play a huge factor in the November election unlike our one track mind cbeyer who believes only economic matters matter.

Submitted by Free Stinker on Mon, 03/26/2012 - 8:58pm.

It is still the primaries.  Until the GOP picks their nominee we have every right to fight like hell for the nominee of our choice, but Conservatives aren't going around lying about Mitt Rmoney.

Once the general election occurs all Conservatives will vote for the GOP nominee.  You won't (not being a Conservative and whatnot) but that's a different issue.

This is less about the press then it is about Santorum reaction

Submitted by TSM on Mon, 03/26/2012 - 9:56am.

All Republican candidates get the same treatment from the press and it will only get worse for the Republican nominee in the General election. It is important to judge any candiate by how the handle the press, no matter how hostile or obnoxious the press may be. They're running for leader of the free world, and they need to show composure. They should be above the frey of the press.

Santorum's reaction is always the same, to blame and argue. Also, I'm sick of him saying the Republicans need a candiate with ideas and not someone who can just attack. First, we want someone who can attack President Obama in the general, and second Gov Romney has presented many ideas. I don't know what ideas I've heard from Santorum, except he'll repeal Obamacare, as has Romney said so too.

No wonder he lost PA by a landslide. The man is tired. He's bitter. He's becoming unhinged.

The media control the public perception

Submitted by c5then on Mon, 03/26/2012 - 10:03am.

They have gotten to the point where they have been trying to get for the last 40 years. They do not have perfect control, but they do have a substantial amount of it. So far, I have seen only Newt and Ron Paul handle the media the way they need to be handled to undermine their control. Mitt makes it out as no big deal and Santorum throws a fit everytime he is distorted and taken out of context.

Santorum is a joke

Submitted by cbeyer on Mon, 03/26/2012 - 10:12am.

And so is your defense of him. Healthcare is not the only issue in the country. Santorum has made it his one talking point about Romney. With recent statements by Santorum, I think he is a candidate forstarring in a remake of 'The Shining'.

His comment that we would be better off with with what we have (Obama) than Romney is completely irrational along with his stump speech that says there is little separating Obama from Romney. Anyone who buys that nonsense is just silly.

Do you read other people's comments or do you just make a habit of being an uninformed dumb@ss who goes off half-cocked?

Santorum has all the charisma of a wet sock. As opposed to Romney, who's a walking, talking Ken doll without the warmth, charm, and life-like flexibility. Gingrich, well, he's staggering around under a load of personal baggage big enough to fill an entire LAX carousel.

All three of the men in current contention are hand-in-glove with the GOP establishment elites. That's why I don't like any of them.

I know some people will take my comments on this thread as some sort of support of Santorum, but anyone who has been reading my comments about this election cycle knows I don't like any of the candidates, and that I don't think Santorum has a snowball's chance in hell of winning the nomination. I think this is all a set-up from the establishment elites to make Romney the Repub nominee. I think both sides want him to be the Anointed One, for reasons of their own.
I stated this in January.

Santorum was absolutely right.
Zeleny cherry picked a few words out of a larger quote and ignored the rest so he could alter the context.
It is lying.
It's like Santorum said "The Red Sox are gonna' kill the Yankees tonight" and then Zeleny asks him if he endorses the murder of athletes.

Bravo Rick!!

I know we won't see the NYT print this as it was. They will spin it to show how Santorum is "angry" or "unhinged".

I prefer Rick over Mitt at this point in time. The candidates I would have preferred dropped out of the race. One of them was due to a high tech lynching by the MBM.

When will this leftists piece of garbage known as the New York Slimes go bankrupt? I am tired of the cr@p that they put out.
