Rosie O'Donnell: 'Maybe I'll Record a Country Album With Rush Limbaugh'
Okay, she didn't mean it seriously, but at the end of CNN's Piers Morgan Tonight Thursday, substitute host Rosie O'Donnell pondered recording a country album with Rush Limbaugh.
"Then we'll hit the road to promote it, the Rush and Rosie Show. Giddy up" (video follows with transcript and commentary):
ROSIE O'DONNELL: Well, this is the time in the program that Piers gives us his take on life in the U.S. It's called Only in America. And tonight, I found a story that will make my British buddy proud.
For Only in America can an iconic rock band take the concept of merchandising to a whole new level. I'm talking about Kiss. Yes, the platform shoes, the makeup, the whole tongue thing. Remember them?
They've been glamming it up since the 1970s. For Kiss, it's always been about the music, man. OK, so maybe now it's about the money, too, man.
How else can you explain today's grand opening in Vegas of the Kiss Monster Mini-Golf Course. This is no ordinary miniature golf course. It's a glow in the dark golf course.
It has the largest Kiss gift shop in the world.
Now, I am not calling them sellouts. I am not. But what's next? Batting cages with Kiss glitter balls? I guess what they're trying to tell us it's OK to do anything for money here in America. And you never know. Maybe I'll take that to heart and I'll reconsider some of those offers I got last week to sell Rosie O'Donnell's Kosher for Passover Brand Matzo Ball Soup.
Or better yet, maybe I'll record a country album with Rush Limbaugh. Then we'll hit the road to promote it, the Rush and Rosie Show. Giddy up.
Rosie darling, don't flatter yourself.
Having just been dumped by Oprah, it wouldn't be you selling out to partner up with the most popular talk radio host in the country.

Calling a person fat may be impolite and truthful, but it is NOT an insult. Why can't you grasp that? A person's weight is not something to be hurled as an insult.
Suppose you disagreed politically with a person who was paralyzed from the waist down. Would you call that person a "crip"? Would you use that person's disability to make fun of him/her?
It doesn't matter if it's true...what matters is if it's something the person chooses to be/do willingly. Rosie CHOOSES to be liberal, so you CAN mock her for that. Being fat is something altogether different.
Please raise the level of discourse so nobody can confuse us with the coarse low lifes on the left.

Whenever there is a story about a liberal woman, the insults abound regarding her being gay, old, fat, her lack of sex appeal, ugly etc. With guys there are one or two references to such superficial things. Maher is called "Donkeyface", but just in passing. From the female point of view, it feels as if the insults are more personal and based less in substantive issues.
I'm happy when the guys on this site refrain from certain, ok, a specific, vulgar world.
Men are so much more visual than women that it's not a surprise that when they are disgusted or dislike a woman, they respond with visual insults.
Me, I can live with it as long as the vulgarisms are kept within reasonable bounds.

I remember liking Rosie when she stared in movies like "Sleepless in Seattle" and "A League of Their Own", plus when she hosted the Tony awards. Then, when she came out of the closet, she became very political and angry. That's what did it for me.
It's a shame, really. I didn't really care what her sexual orientation was; she was a great actress and comedienne in the beginning. Sad to see it go to waste.
