Krauthammer on Media's Claim of GOP War on Women: 'Liberal Echo Chamber Elite Cocooning'
As NewsBusters has been reporting for weeks, the Obama-loving media have concocted the fallacy that Republicans are suddenly in a war on women.
Syndicated columnist Charles Krauthammer on PBS's Inside Washington Friday called this "a classic example of liberal echo chamber elite cocooning" (video follows with transcript and commentary):
GORDON PETERSON, HOST: What are the political ramifications? Is this reflected at the polling place?
CHARLES KRAUTHAMMER: It isn’t, and that is why all of your talk about the war on woman is a classic example of liberal echo chamber elite cocooning. In the poll by the New York Times on this issue, it found that by eleven percent Americans are against the idea that contraception ought to be required in a medical plan if it is against the conscience of the employer.
And if you ask the question whether a religious institution ought to be required to subsidize contraception, it is 21 percent against among women, on the first, two percent against, and on the second that’s a religious institution, meaning a Catholic hospital, it’s a ten percent spread.
So what every one of those in the Time poll -- hardly a right-wing publication -- you have a majority of Americans who say you ought not compel anybody who has a religious objection, and particularly any institution like the Catholic Church, to provide contraception. And thus all your talk about how it is hurting women is simply not reflected in the data.
PETERSON: “Liberal echo chamber cocooning.” That’s going in my book.
KRAUTHAMMER: Oh, and strong letter to follow.
Indeed.
And in that strong letter, Krauthammer should let all of his colleagues know that no one is trying to take anything away from women that they previously had before this controversy started.
Instead, what this has been about from the beginning - and it appears more women understand this than the media would like! - is the Obama administration trying to expand healthcare coverage concerning birth control and abortion with some entities pushing back.
As such, we have witnessed a sickeningly dishonest press in the past few months not only allow the White House to advance a completely false narrative, but also assist the President's efforts to misinform the public.
Shouldn't it be the media's job to expose a President's lies?
Or is that asking too much when the current White House resident is a Democrat the press helped get elected?

Where do our peace loving Muslim friends stand on this issue of forced coverage for birth control? Is this discrimination against them? I'm not sure what their take is on birth control (they do have schools with instructors? are any female?), and don't even know if they have any health care centers similar to what the Catholic church does.

Muslims are exempt from paying for obamacare. Just like all unions and congress.
So Muslims prolly don't care.
Remember they did not care about 3 Marines urinating on dead Taliban.
Absolutely.

Mr. Sheppard: ...no one is trying to take anything away from women that they previously had before this controversy started.
And 90% of all insurance plans already covered COCP (the pill) prior to this whole brouhaha.
Perhaps most important is the Guttmacher Institute’s statistic on employer-provided contraceptive coverage:
•Nine in 10 employer-based insurance plans already cover a full range of prescription contraceptives.[24]
This means that 90% of women who would qualify for “preventive services” under the HHS mandate (i.e., employed women) do not even need the coverage. The HHS mandate would only provide a marginal increase in availability of contraceptives and related services and, as the U. S. Supreme Court has recently noted, “the government does not have a compelling interest in each marginal percentage point by which its goals are advanced.”[25]

Well, as Dingy Harry would explain, such polls are "meaningless." And one should be suspicious of them.

I really agree with you. The Democrats really do live in a echo chamber but, you have got to admit it is effective when it comes to propaganda. To many people believe them when the MSM just go along with them and reprint the same BS. In reality the Democrats have declared war on women for over 60 years and most are not even aware of it.

Ms. Nina Dead-mountain is unqualified to speak to any issue relating to contraception, having no plausible need of it herself, free or otherwise, in my humble opinion.

why doesn't Gordon Peterson and Nina T just say what they and their ilk really want? Get rid of insurance companies altogether and let the government be the sole provider. Probably cost between 1 and 3 trillion per year. If that's too much they can just make all doctors, nurses, technicians, orderlies, etc. government employees. Of course they'll have to raise taxes on the 'rich' to about 90% plus add a 20% VAT tax on most everbody to pay for it but hey, they don't really need it anyway. Also we'll have to have exemptions from taxes for the 'protected' groups (i.e. the monolithic 'D' voters). I need a good scream!

That's the short version.
It's a pep rally.
It doesn't really matter what bedoodle slogans or chants they throw out - everyone is going to scream and yell and throw their hands up and shout for their team....The media cheerleaders are going to go crazy with their pompoms and kick up a storm....
It is all designed to energize fantics, the fans, and the fence sitters who might be pulled into the crowd by the excitement of the moment.
It is also all about helping THEIR TEAM gain strength for the up coming game...

How dimwitted does someone have to be to believe that the repubs actually want a “war against women”?
Seriously, how simple-minded does someone have to be to actually believe this media-generated nonsense?
With Obama and his flunkies, it's all about distraction, and for good reason.

...........the polling is irrelevant, except to politicians looking for points. It's unconstitutional for the government to tell any company it must provide it's good or service free, period. Of course, most Americans don't know what the Constitution is or how to spell it, so here we are continuing to head toward the cliff that everyone can see yet no one will slow the car or turn it any degree whatsoever off of its dead straight course toward that cliff. It's pure insanity and we the citizen will take the massive hit and I for one grow more and more tired of it and disgusted by it every day.

Everybody seems to think this is about contraception, or health care, or some goofy "war on women."
Wrong.
It's about CONTROL. Pure and simple. The current occupants of the White House and the Cabinet simply want to control EVERYTHING about our lives...even down to whether (or when) we can have children.
Does this sound at all familiar? The Communist government of China limits families to one child per household. And at one point (I don't know if they're still doing it) they were performing "after-birth abortions" on female babies because the male population was so low. (For you lefties who might be reading this, "after-birth abortions" is a fancy euphemism for infanticide - murder, in other words.)
Even those on the right are participating in the misdirection. To say this is not about a "war on women" is simply playing into the Left's hands. When will someone step up and say what no one else is brave enough to - that Obama simply wants to CONTROL and SUBJUGATE us to his will (or the will of those pulling his strings)?
“I will not stand by and watch this great country destroy itself under mediocre leadership, that drifts from one crisis to the next, eroding our national will and purpose.” – Ronald Reagan, July 17, 1980.
