Supermodel Elle Macpherson told shock jock Howard Stern Tuesday that she's pulling for Barack Obama to be reelected.
"I’m living in London and I’m socialist," she told her host. "What do you expect?" (video follows with transcript and commentary):
HOWARD STERN: Who should be the next President of the United States Elle MacPherson, go ahead.
ELLE MACPHERSON: I think Obama’s going to do it.
STERN: You like Obama?
MACPHERSON: Yeah, I’m living in London and I’m socialist. What do you expect?
STERN: And you’re living in London and you sense what other foreigners feel. Do they like him?
MACPHERSON: I think foreigners like him. He’s very popular.
STERN: Don’t we look good having a black president and everything? Makes us kind of cool.
MACPHERSON: I think it’s more about his policy. But you know there are I understand that there are a lot of people who don’t, you know, don’t want change. “We want change. We want change.” And he says, “I’ll implement change,” and you go, “Oh, actually, I don’t bleeping feel like I want change. It’s too difficult.”

Socialism doesn't foster social mobility, where someone like Macpherson can leapfrog to the upper echelon.
And socialism claims that it erases class strata, when history has demonstrated that it merely replaces one elite with another.
Perhaps she is too young to remember, but there is a reason why literally hundreds of East Germans died attempting to escape to the West prior to the demise of the Soviet Union and the socialist countries of Eastern Europe.
If socialism is so attractive and successful, then why have it's practitioners designed security apparti to keep citizens in?

Anyway, this is an extremely intelligent woman. She graduated high school at 16 1/2 and tested in the top three percent in Australia in her college placement exams. She was getting ready to head to college and become an attorney when she decided to take a year off and try her hand at modeling first.

My only reference to her intelligence came from your comment about how early she graduated college and her test scores. I question her intelligence about being happy as a Socialist when she has never had to share her earnings the way a true Socialist country would have her do.
And as a point of disclosure, my dear old mom, 82 years old, would not consider herself to be a liberal but she'd vote for Stalin if he had a D next to his name. My stepdad was another lifelong Dem who was a union pipeline welder for 50 years. He spouted all the lefty talking points, but lived and managed his financial life like a true Conservative. Like mom, he'd cut his arm off before voting R. I chose not to talk politics to them.

In my line of work, I've encountered several PhD's who are mental zeros.
Example:
You'd think someone with an advanced degree in metallurgy would know enough not to ruin a bandsaw (with a standard blade) by trying to cut case hardened metal on it. You'd think after screwing up one saw blade, he'd recognize his mistake, if only from the painful squeals the saw made as its teeth were being ripped off. But no - it took management barring him from the equipment for it to stop.
Being able to memorize things and having common sense can have nothing in common. Combine that with Elle (no doubt) getting all of her censored information about Mr. Soetoro from the lamestream media and her social circles, and ignorance abounds, regardless of potential IQ.

There's a difference between having a high IQ and being a fool. They don't necessarily rule each other out. I believe what Noel was saying is that she isn't stupid. Now, you can say that all liberals are stupid, but that isn't true. The average liberal's IQ is probably about the same as the average conservative's IQ. The difference is in the way we think about things.
Liberals reason from a standpoint of the way they think the world should be, conservatives reason from the standpoint of the way the world is. If your premise is wrong, everything you extrapolate beyond that point will also be wrong.

We're all inherently selfish, which is why things like socialism and communism never work out. They run counter to human nature. That's why capitalism works and people flourish under it, they get to reap the rewards of their own work.
That sharing crap people are always harping on kids about? I don't *make* my kids share. I never have. They each have their own personal property that no one else can touch without permission. That's the rule, for everyone. They each know that they have absolute control over their own stuff, and because they do, they always ask permission of each other and they share of their own free will because they know that all they have to do is ask for it back and it will be given. There's no possessive fighting over who has control of what at any particular moment. They're all under the same rule, and the rule is fair and impartial.
What it boils down to is that you can't truly 'share' what you never feel is yours in the first place.

The old adage was that basic personality traits, e.g. leader vs. follower, aggressive vs. passive, developed by the age of two years. We now know that is a very simplistic and irrational manner of describing cognitive ability.
Cognitive ability develops along a curve depending on multiple factors, and there are huge variations just as there are with growth. Human nature is unquantifiable, but is more than likely a combination of instinctual (e.g. "hard wired") characteristics with application dependent upon cognitive factors (e.g. the "software").

Every time I find myself arguing with someone describing themselves as a socialist, half the discussion is about what socialism actually means. I usually go for the traditional definition - the one you'd find in any dictionary - and then they, almost invariably, will either tell me my definition is wrong or that they're not that kind of socialist but some other kind I've never heard of and doesn't really exist.
So, what does Elle mean when she says she's a socialist? My guess is, like many other 'socialists', she is one when it comes to those who make more money than her and who aren't culturally and socially Left/liberal, i.e. 'cool'. Poor Elle. Don't you get it? Once they're done with those guys they'll be coming after you and it won't matter a bit that you express sympathy for the cause. Just hand over the money, darling.

Not many people want government controlling the means of all production, but many support the redistribution of income, heavily taking from the so-called rich, which is subjective anyway.
In discussion, using the term Socialist against someone will just turn off the discussion. I know Obama is a Marxist, but I don't use that term to describe him when discussing him with a Liberal. It's best to discuss issues and mindset and things he actually says.

I'm with you. Obama was spared the whole "black" experience by spending so little time in the states, and in Hawaii when he was here. Hawaii has a lot more diversity than the rest of the U.S., so I doubt he stood out a lot, except for being pudgy and whiney (as I've heard he was).

Do not mistake one for the other.
Educated means you hold the credentials and the knowledge, but it does not imply that you apply it with any level of intelligence. Intelligence implies that you are able to solve problems of some complexity and have some degree of self-actualization that makes you amenable to applying the education you received.
Some of the most highly educated flaming liberals that I know are actually quite unintelligent, and their education came about either through largesse of familial or social affiliations or sheer dumb luck (e.g. being in the right place at the right time). Unfortunately, liberals tend to equate shallow variables of education like fashion labels (e.g. going to the "right" schools, etc.) and ignore the obvious expectation that they do something contributory and productive with that education other than having their degree looking pretty in a gold frame.
