Ed Schultz: Palin Responsible for Republicans Thinking Obama's Muslim
UPDATE AT END OF POST: Hillary Clinton campaign circulated Obama photo in Muslim attire.
Polls released Monday showed a large percentage of Republicans in Alabama and Mississippi think President Obama is a Muslim.
In a shocking display of unhinged rhetoric hours later, MSNBC's Ed Schultz blamed it all on former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin (video follows with transcribed highlights and commentary):
Early in the segment, Schultz referred to the aforementioned Public Policy Polling surveys.

The president was then shown saying, "When we start using religion as a bludgeon in politics, when we start questioning other people's faith, we start using religion to divide instead of bring the country together, then I think we've got a problem."
Schultz responded, “The root of this problem is at the doorstep of the McCain campaign from 2008. You don’t have to look any farther than the recent HBO movie 'Game Change' which premiered over the weekend to see how this whole fire started to rage.”
A clip of the film was shown wherein Julianne Moore as Palin asked Woody Harrelson (Steve Schmidt) if she could start talking about Rev. Jeremiah Wright and domestic terrorist Bill Ayers. Harrelson told her to speak with McCain (Ed Harris).
What Schultz didn’t show his viewers was that in the film, the campaign team discussed Palin's request and it was decided by McCain himself that Wright would be completely hands off, but Ayers would be free game.
As such, there was absolutely nothing in "Game Change" about the McCain campaign attacking Obama's religious beliefs, which is one of the few truths in the film.
Despite this, after the clip, Schultz said, “Sarah Palin poured gasoline all over this fire. She helped start the misinformation campaign.”
A clip was then shown of the real Palin at a campaign event in October 2008 saying, “This is not a man who sees America as you and I see America. Our opponent is someone who sees America as imperfect enough to pal around with terrorists who targeted their own country.”
There was absolutely nothing about Wright or religion in that clip.
Regardless, when it concluded, Schultz asked his viewers, “So what happened? Sarah Palin made it acceptable for Republican voters to disdain the president for his alleged otherness. She ginned up and fostered the pitting of the American people against Barack Obama. And three and a half years later, it is still a big problem for the United States of America and of course the President of the United States and pretty much a major concern for his reelection campaign.”
So, exactly what in that October 2008 stump speech had anything to do with depicting Obama as a Muslim or questioning his religious beliefs?
Absolutely nothing.
But that's what Schultz told his MSNBC audience Monday.
Exit question: who's really ginning up hatred in this country?
Post facto thought provoker: This is what makes HBO's "Game Change" so dangerous. Obama-loving media outlets are going to use it as a resource for information despite it's many factual errors.
Much as many Americans think Palin actually said she could see Russia from her house thanks to Tina Fey, all of the falsehoods in this film are going to become urban legend.
And that's scary.
*****Update: NBer metaphorsbwithu correctly tweeted me that it was the Hillary Clinton campaign in February 2008 that circulated the following infamous photo of Obama in Muslim garb.

Despite this happening six months before Palin was named as McCain's running mate, I'm sure it was still all her fault.

What Ed "Wrong Way" Schultz intentionally left out to his audience is that this group of hacks has partnership with The Daily Kos. Liberals are proving to me more and more every day that people can actually have an IQ in negative numbers.
Also, Ed "Wrong Way" Schultz intentionally left this little hum-dinger:
"Errors
Not all of the polls by Public Policy Polling have been accurate; the company has had its share of inaccurate results. Among the most notable of its mispredictions were that of the 2008 Democratic presidential primary in Pennsylvania[16] (in which it predicted an Obama victory; Clinton ultimately won by 9-10%), and that in the 2009 special election in New York's 23rd Congressional District.[17]"

I do not make decisions or come to conclusions based on what some celebrity has to say. I tend to agree with Alice Cooper, who commented once (and this is a rough paraphrase), "If you choose who to vote for based on what some celebrity says, you're a bigger idiot than the celebrity."
Secondly, I really can't recall any instance of Sarah Palin making any comment at all about Obama's religion, or lack thereof. So I'm not certain how something that Palin DIDN'T say can have any influence on people's view of Obama's religion.

Not that I think Obama is; personally, I think he's atheist. That being said, outside of continuing the wars in the Middle East- which liberals used to scream was a war on Muslims until Obama came into office- his policies relative Muslim countries sure seem to be quite friendly. Egypt went from being largely secular to forming a new government with 80% identified as "Muslim". Libya is following suit. And he's been bending over
backwardsfor Iran since day one, and continues to do so today. He may not be a Muslim, but he sure is concilatory to them; especailly compared to Catholics and Jews.BK

Schultz: The root of this problem is at the McCain . . Palin . . .bla bla bla
No, it's not. In addition to the update posted by Noel, where it's laid out that it was the Hillary camp, in 2008, who wanted Obama painted as a Muslim -- there was also this . . .
The birther movement, as well, was "birthed" close to the Hillary camp. There can be no doubt that the possibility that this Kenyan, with the Islamic faith in his blood, who once lived in Pakistan and attended a Madrasah, was enhanced by this campaign effort, would end up residing in the deeply held beliefs of the deeply Democrat rooted South.
The birther movement was born of the Democratic primary - by the Democrats - not the Republicans. FTR - liberal John Avlon wrote it up rather well, The 'Birthers' Began on the Left.
On the side bar, McCain should tackle this straight on.

Gary, your attribution is correct but overstated...
Submitted by Jer on Tue, 03/13/2012 - 12:35am.
a. Avlon is NOT a liberal.
b. The origin of birtherism was hatched within a small coterie of rogue women Clinton-supporting Democrats who went to Berg, a Democratic nutjob who filed a lawsuit and began peddling the birther issue to anyone who would listen--mostly the anti-Obama fringe right. In the meantime, the group of Hillary women became disenchanted and actually decided to give Sarah Palin a serious look. I have no idea whom they eventually supported.
c. Berg began appearing on niche conservative talk shows moderated by hosts who were absolutely thrilled to peddle the birther nonsense, along with the burgeoning assistance from World Net Daily which rapidly became the journalistic epicenter of Birtherism--spearheaded by Dr. Jerome Corsi. There was also an influential article published in the National Review which coincided with Berg's and WND's efforts to gain traction for the story.
d. Yes the birther banner was first wielded by a few Democrats but was quickly tossed aside only to be grabbed by the fanatical right which has carried it ever since.

Anyway, with regards to this 'birther' issue........it just DOESN'T seem to be going away, does it?? And believe me, it's been lambasted by people on 'my' side just as well as 'yours', right?? But it hasn't died, and I think that is because - underneath the lies and the BS and the phony 'proof' and the people telling us that we're getting 'side-tracked' and everything else that we've heard about it...................there is SOMETHING THERE!!!
I"m over here in Asia, as you know, so maybe I get to hear about things that are a little more 'telling'??? I don't know - I'm not the kind of guy who sits in front of the internet and looks for whatever I can find to prove that I am right. I DO know that the circumstances surrounding Baraka's 'typical white grandmother's death were HIGHLY dubious - the reasons, the timing, everything!! And she was kept under lock and key during the whole campaign.................for what reason?? And she had a lot of connections when she was a professional, when Boy Barry was growing up. There's a LOT of unanswered questions in that arena. Of course, this IS Asia/People's Republic of Hawaii..........and the press, the government, and a vast majority of the populace are, and have been, in the tank of lib/Dem politics and whatever they are spoon fed............and the fact that Boy Barry is purportedly FROM Hawaii gives a lot of these followers some sense of pride - even if they don't have a clue as to what is REALLY going on!!!
But I also get the feeling that Boy Baraka is losing credibility around here by some percentage..................I know a LOT more people these days who feel that way - as opposed to the psuedo tsunami of 'hype and chains' in 2008.
On a similiar note, I'm glad to see SOME Republican with balls actually threatening to impeach Boy Baraka, and maybe Leon Panetta, for their astonishingly un-Constitutional approach to international military involvement. Now...............if some GOP (or hey, maybe even a Democrat??? Hahahahaha - fat friggin' chance!!!) member can find any number of reasons to get rid of Eric

As far as Obama, allow this one observation: He is vulnerable enough on legitimate issues. The birther and closet muslim claims are unnecessary distractions which interfere with focusing on the more appropriate targets--jobs, energy policy [gas prices], a languishing housing market, explosive debt, mideast turmoil, disaffection with Obamacare, etc.--where the fire should be concentrated. At least that's my opinion.

Hahahahahahahaha!!! And having said that...........since the aforementioned suspects WON'T be bringing up the 'legitimate' issues, you can bet your bottom dollar that they will DENY any other issues (such as what we are talking about), as well as to continue the charade of the 'war against women' and the 'psuedo contraceptive' issues and the 'racist' issues and whatever else they can concoct in order to keep ANYONE and EVERYONE from focusing on what is REALLY happening!!! And, unfortuantly, we have a VERY LARGE percentage of REALLY DUMB people in this country - including members of the MSM - who will ride this wave until it breaks on the shoreline.
As for myself, I'm gonna keep my chin up, and my attitude positive, and I'm gonna LAY TO WASTE any lib/Dem/progressive that wants to talk to me around here...................but the ones who know me............STAY AWAY from me, or ask me how the surf is!!!

You need only check the birther forums at this website. They weren't launched by Newsbuster liberals. Check out the endless birther links and articles at World Net Daily. They weren't posted by liberals. Review the giddiness on the NB threads last year over the anticipated Corsi blockbuster that was going to blow the lid off of Obama's claims of an Hawaiian birth. [BTW, I know where you can pick up a copy at a substantial discount.] None of that was generated by liberals. How about the skepticism of the long-form b/c voiced by Pamela Geller and others--none of whom were liberals. The plain truth is the mainstream Republicans and conservatives who tentatively bought into the whole Birtherism baloney wound up with egg all over their faces and wiped it off by disingenuously insisting "hey, it wasn't us...it was the Dems and the liberal media who have churned the story for the last four years."

I can't blame people for thinking He is Muslim, though I still submit He can't be because it's hard to pray to yourself once, let alone 5 times a day.

Obama is neither a Christian nor a Muslim; he worships himself.

Hollywood Liberals lying liberally create “Game Change.”
This becomes a boon for lying MSM Liberals. Now Ed and others refer to it, as if it were the latest addition to the Holy Bible (you know, those 66 books Liberals never read), and thus broaden -- as if they need to -- their palette for lying.
What a surprise.

Some might even call it "propaganda".
Once again, I point out to people that they don't care about truth, fairness or even civility. Their goal is to win for their side at any cost.
This should not surprise anybody who listens to watches or reads the "news" from multiple sources.

This is what liberals do - take something that the Democrats bring up and attribute it to the GOP. A former staffer of Michelle Obama portrayed her as uncompromising and hateful. Then the media turn it around to make it look like the GOP was behind this. We saw it with the early Obama/Joker posters that were made by a Democratic operative.
So, the GOP needs to detail who started these issues and how it is being transferred to the GOP.

Obama's religion is Marxism.
The person who should get the credit for exposing his devotion to Marx is Alan Keyes.
How can they be confused?

How can so many people be confused about Obama's religion? I mean, really, he's obviously a Christian, with such a Christian name like "Barrack Hussein Obama." It's as Christian a sir name as, say, Ahmad, or Khaleel! Or Kareem Abdul Jabbar.
I mean, come on guys, really, it's about as clear as a Scotsman named Perrier.
