Laura Ingraham Busts The View: When Ed Schultz Called Me a Slut Barbara Walters 'Laughed it Off'

By Noel Sheppard | March 06, 2012 | 11:45

As NewsBusters reported Monday, the ladies of ABC's The View were tremendously sympathetic to Georgetown University law student Sandra Fluke's tale of woe and misery having been called a "slut" by conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh.

Yet as Laura Ingraham pointed out on Tuesday's Fox & Friends, her being called a "slut" by MSNBC's Ed Schultz last year was a source of great amusement on The View with Barbara Walters acknowledging to great laughter, "Joy Behar on this program has called me a slut" (videos follow with transcribed highlights and commentary):

As the Limbaugh-Fluke-Schultz discussion on Fox & Friends ensued, Ingraham commented, "When it was brought up on The View, Barbara Walters kind of laughed it off. She was like, 'Joy, you call me that word all the time.' And they kind of just laughed. But when Fluke goes on The View yesterday, it was 'Oh, isn't this a tragedy' and 'Oh, isn't this horrible' and 'Rush Limbaugh should be driven off the air.'"

Was she right?

NewsBusters reported on May 26, 2011:

Instead of focusing on the vileness of Ed Schultz twice calling conservative talk show host Laura Ingraham a "slut" on his radio show, ABC's The View co-hosts gabbed back and forth Thursday about co-host Joy Behar's catty use of the term for her colleagues.

Behar apparently calls her colleagues sluts on the ABC daytime show, and so the co-hosts chatted about the nature of her "insults" and compared them with Schultz's use of the term. [...]

BARBARA WALTERS: I would like to say that Joy Behar, on this program, has called me a slut.

(Laughter)

GOLDBERG: Joy Behar has called many people a slut on this program. Did you hear from this woman's organization? Ever?

JOY BEHAR: Why Barbara, when I call her a slut, the truth is an ultimate defense. That's all I have to say.

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

So when liberal Schultz called conservative Ingraham a slut last year, the ladies of The View were chuckles and guffaws. After all, Joy says it all the time.

But when conservative Limbaugh called liberal Fluke a slut, it's the end of the world as we know it.

Any questions?

You should have copyrighted it.

Funny, the other day, a comment was made about my 5 yrs ago old tagline "LYDSEXICS UNTIE".  I decided to check the net to see if it survived, and danged if there isn't a T-shirt now for sale with my witticism emblazoned on it.

Guess I've contributed in some small way to entrepreneurship in America.

May even buy one.

These harpies need to get out of their 'sheltered' lives and discover that there are lot of really pissed off people out there who are no longer drinking the kook aid (I use the term kook instead of kool on purpose).

I remember

Submitted by nolefan2 on Tue, 03/06/2012 - 11:58am.

when Ed Schultz called Laura a "right wing slut" and I remember the reaction from the hags on the View. They must be more ignorant than I ever imagined. If they can't see the hypocrisy in their differing reactions to the use of the word "slut" against a conservative and then a liberal, they are in sad need of a lobotomy.

Great post, Noel. It's

Submitted by NCfairandbalanced on Tue, 03/06/2012 - 12:01pm.

Great post, Noel. It's interesting how Rush refers to himself as "America's Anchorman" when he is really no more an entertainer than Bill Mahar. Obviously, different perspectives but not a different industry.

Why does Rush report news and Mahar doesn't? Because bad news for libs aren't reported by anyone else other than Fox News. If you miss that, you catch it on Rush. If it's bad news for conservatives, then everyone else (and Fox, by the way) reports it. By the time that jerk Mahar is on, it's old news.

Any wonder why these guys want Limbaugh off the air? Why, because he lies? No, because he TELLS THE TRUTH!!

Still A Long Way To Go

Submitted by rammingspeed on Tue, 03/06/2012 - 12:23pm.

More people than the elite media "allows" us to know have been onto this take on the story from the beginning. And more and more and catching on, even the Huffington Post blogs are filled with posters pointing it out.

And advertisers fleeing Rush Limbaugh's show? Don't think there aren't guns to their heads from the White House on down, including the new media as head by NYT types. They will take a PR hit if they don't pull out. However, Limbaugh's listeners are bailing, and that's the bottom line. The audience listens to ads, and then goes and buys products. Advertisers/businesses make money. Lots and lotsa money, if they advertise on Limbaugh's show. Either at least some of the advertisers will return when the dust settles, or others - who aren't beholden to politicos and the media - will step in. And THEY will see their profits soar.

This ain't over.

Liberal wet Dream = RUSH off the air

Submitted by kevinm13 on Tue, 03/06/2012 - 1:24pm.

Libs have been looking for a way to get Rush to slip up and force him off the air. They are afraid of him because he tells the truth, often exposing the hypocrisy of the left. In this instance, he defined the word "slut" as somebody who gets paid for sex. Sarah Fluke is seeking taxpayer money to support her so-called "contraception" or "birth control". She wants somebody else to take responsibility for her actions by paying for condoms or the pill or some other form of birth control (I think she should try to use the aspirin approach). As defined, she is a "slut". I don't like the word but I don't see what the outrage is all about, especially after Rush apologized. Don't forget that this 30-year-old is also seeking to change the way a Catholic institution treats "birth control" against its Catholic beliefs. Fluke truly is a "slut" and should be treated as such.

"What proof is there she's [Ingraham] is NOT a slut?"

Submitted by Rush Fan on Tue, 03/06/2012 - 6:09pm.

Before you angrily hit the reply button, those are not my words. Los Angeles radio host (KFI 640) Bill Handel used those words to defend Ed Schultz.

I listen to KFI (Rush Limbaugh is on that station), and was, of course, offended by Handel's remarks. I wrote to KFI indicating Handel's remarks were over-the top and received the following reply from Clear Channel, KFI's owners:

As an attorney and talk show host, Bill Handel is a staunch supporter of the first amendment and usually looks at statements made by other radio hosts such as Ed Shultz as protected forms of free speech. As you may know, it is common practice for talk show hosts to use colorful, satirical and even hyperbolic language to reinforce their points or opinions.
As a matter of fact, Laura Ingraham does this herself (Ingraham once accused columnist Helen Thomas of working for the terrorist group Hezbollah). Bill Handel has consistently defended the rights of broadcasters, both conservative and liberal, to speak their minds in any legal way they see fit. While defending this right, Bill often uses the same colorful, satirical and hyperbolic language to make his point. Bill is a "calls it as he sees it" type of guy beholden to no political party and holds both conservative and liberal points of view depending on the topic and is not afraid to defend or bash either side of the aisle as he feels needed.
KFI has many talented talk show hosts and although management doesn’t always agree with everything said on the air by all the hosts, KFI believes as virtual "columnists of the airwaves", they have the right to speak their minds and express their opinions. Thank you for listening and for taking the time to write.
Sincerely, Clear Channel Talk LA DP

Brian Maloney has more details regarding Bill Handel.

P.S. Didn't Jew-hater Helen Thomas support Hezbollah?

Double Standard of Barbara Walters

Submitted by Steve Cakouros on Tue, 03/06/2012 - 6:16pm.

In her book Barbara Walters confesses that she had an affair with a senator. Does that quailfy her as a slut? I think it does.
