Huffington Post Headline: 'Rush Caves'

As NewsBusters reported, conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh issued an apology to Georgetown University law student Sandra Fluke Saturday.

Rather then congratulate Limbaugh for doing what it believed was the right thing to do, the liberal Huffington Post ridiculed him with a front page headline "RUSH CAVES: 'I Sincerely Apologize To Ms. Fluke'" (photo courtesy Getty):

This is so typical of liberal media outlets.

They bash conservatives for everything they do, think, say, or advocate, and when one actually reconsiders his behavior, they ridicule him for "caving."

Reminds you of how they bullied former President George H.W. Bush to go against his "No New Taxes" campaign pledge, and when he capitulated in 1990, they held it against him in his 1992 campaign assisting Bill Clinton in depicting him as a flipflopper.

As such, even when conservatives do what the media want, they're still ridiculed.

If she did indeed go there for that express purpose,  that is shameful in itself, in that it shows a deep-seated antagonism for the Catholic Church. Why isn't this being played as a deliberate attack on the Catholic Church?

Oh, I know why.... Attacks on the Catholic Church are celebrated, not criticized.

And no one should make the mistake of thinking the fact that he "caved" will be enough for them.

It seems Georgetown is more tolerant of Ms. Fluke than she is of the Catholic Church. And yet she claims that she has nothing against the Catholic Church per se. If that's her idea of logical thinking, she should consider a career other than law.

This was a lose-lose situation for Rush from the very beginning. I understand why he apologized, but doing so only opened the floodgates to even more ridicule. If he doesn't apologize, he's a misogynist. If he does apologize, he's caving and only doing so to keep his advertisers. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Donkeyface still hasn't apologized for calling Sarah Palin the C-word. I, too, believe that if we conservatives truly commit to holding ourselves to higher standards than we expect of and from the libs, the Dems, and the media, why, before too long, the libs, the Dems, and the media will realize they have been bested by the wearers of shining armor and will voluntarily leave off with their inherent nastiness.  Hell, they may even do like Alec Baldwin and leave this once great country.

I'll bet before they leave, though, that they will chastise, horrendously, the remaining members of their clan who choose to continue being nasty towards conservatives.

Apologies

Submitted by Kingfish17 on Sun, 03/04/2012 - 8:38pm.

In the end, Rush's apology can only be viewed as "the right thing to do", if it came from a position of Rush feeling personally sorry for his choice of words, and not because he was getting pressure to issue an apology because of his sponsors. It's a personal thing, based on the way he felt. If he did it just to appease his sponsors, it was wrong.

After listening to Rush for almost 24 years, I'm thinking it was not because of his sponsors or critics.  I'll give him the benefit of the doubt, and await what he has to say tomorrow.

Submitted by Wrathful Brunette on Mon, 03/05/2012 - 10:29am.

Any insurance plan is free to offer contraceptive coverage. Anyone who wants insurance can shop the different insurance plans and see which one covers what they want, for the price they want. That's the way the free market works. If there's a demand for insurance plans that cover contraceptives, there will be insurance plans that cover them. There already ARE plenty of them that do. It's a moot point and irrelevant to this issue.

The FRIGGING POINT is that Fluke is trying to get the federal government to step in and FORCE a PRIVATE university to change what it's student insurance policy covers.

Now, how in favor of this are you? Do you think the federal government should be used as a bully to shove a private religious school around?

I know. It is so hard dealing with the monkeypeople. And their words are so confusing. It sucks. It sucks bad dealing with the monkeypeople.

Here the monkeypeople have a word, contraceptive, that is commonly understood to refer to a birth control method that is used repeatedly, such as the pill or condoms or IUDs or shields or foam. Then, the monkey people use that very same word as an adjective, where it can be used to other nouns such as surgery. So they can say contraceptive surgery, a ONE TIME event. And then to make it even more confusing, them monkeymen will say surgical contraception to describe the very same thing. Dang you monkeymen to hell. Dang you all.

Then to make it worse. Why oh why great trolljegeren above do you make it worse. They have this word, contraception, that includes the whole gamut of all the birth controls.

Sniff. Sniff. Why do trolls have to be so dummiz and monkeymen so confusing and smart. Sniff. Sniff.

Yes poor trollies. It is all so semanticals and yet when properly understood, the monkeymen use English so dang well and the poor trollies get confused with all the -ives and -tions and -upyours.

Salamander: "The Tricare site clearly states which methods of birth control are covered..."

Tricare covers birth control just like 90% of ALL insurance. And with Tricare comes a 25% copay for doctor visits and copays for prescriptions (Tricare standard). So it is not free, brain trust.

And as I said, 90% of insurance companies covered birth control BEFORE the HHS mandate. So Tricare is not unique.

In other words, contraceptives, and other “family planning” services, are readily available to the public at little to no cost, and women are already availing themselves of these providers.

Perhaps most important is the Guttmacher Institute’s statistic on employer-provided contraceptive coverage:

•Nine in 10 employer-based insurance plans already cover a full range of prescription contraceptives.[24]

This means that 90% of women who would qualify for “preventive services” under the HHS mandate (i.e., employed women) do not even need the coverage. The HHS mandate would only provide a marginal increase in availability of contraceptives and related services and, as the U. S. Supreme Court has recently noted, “the government does not have a compelling interest in each marginal percentage point by which its goals are advanced.”

SickofLibs is correct.

Submitted by The Vet on Mon, 03/05/2012 - 2:29pm.

And The Vet is a little tiny bit onboard with the idea. Not 4x though. Tricare deductions, and limits have not changed since sometime in the 90's. So accounting for inflation alone, a little rise is not all that bad and The Vet does want to do his part to keep our country from going over a fiscal cliff.

Here is how Tricare standard works. (I may be off by a little, this is memory)

100% deductable for first $300, first $600 for a familty. That is the member pays 100% for the first dollars.

Then a 25% copay up to a $3000 catastrophic cap ($6000 familty). That is the member pays 25% of every dollar up to $3000.

Then Uncle Sam pays for every dollar above the catastrophic cap. And this is just for allowed items. You would still pay out of pocket for not allowed items.

So if the deductible and catastropic cap were to go up a little, The Vet would not be all that upset.

Active duty military members don't pay a dime for any medical costs. You now want us to start charging on the battlefield? There is a reason active duty pays nothing. It is in Uncle Sam's interest to keep them in absolute top shape.

Oh braintrust. Active duty also pays nothing for their food and berthing and clothing. You want to start charging them now?

Idiot.

Active duty members are not part of Tricare. Idiot.

Their dependents are. And Tricare comes with copays for visits outside of actual military installations. It is not free. Idiot.

How about the real reason for Rush's apology?

Submitted by Kingfish17 on Sun, 03/04/2012 - 12:32pm.

Among my circle of friends and family, I am known for my quick retorts and funny one liners that come from nowhere. But every once in a while, one of my jokes falls flat and comes out as pretty dumb. When called out about it, my response usually is; "Yea, that was pretty bad. But it's inevitable that every once in a while, one of my wisecracks is going to be stupid. It's the price I pay for making all those jokes."

Same thing with Limbaugh, except exponentially, and before a national radio audience.

And why did he apologize?  I believe that after a long thought process, he was genuinely sorry that he called this person a slut, (or inferred that she was a slut if not directly calling her one).  It was the wrong choice of words, he thought about it over the course of a few days, and was genuinely sorry.  Simple stuff.  Get off his back.

Rush has and will have plenty of sponsors.  If you are lucky enough to advertise on Rush's show, your company will be successful.  If you pull your advertising from Rush's show, you will rue the day.  If you take the path of advertising on Rush's show to begin with, you need to understand that you are taking a trade-off for all the economic success that you will receive.  Carbonite road Rush's coat-tails to success.  It will be interesting to see what happens to their service after they cut their ties with all things conservative.

It's Rush's call whether he apologizes or not.  I don't think he did it for any other reason then he was sincerely sorry for his choice of words.

I wouldn't say it if I didn't think it. I've read a lot today about the CEO of Carbonite, David Friend. It appears he is an Obama supporter and a MoveOn.org supporter.  (Maybe Friend is donating to Republicans too, just to CYA, I don't know.)  When you advertise on political talk shows, you have to know that there is going to be some heat from the opposing side regarding threats of boycotts and the like. Friend didn't bail on lefty shows when they used language similar to what Limbaugh said.

Limbaugh will be fine, and any company that is lucky enough to advertise on his show gets exposure to 20 million "earballs" who pay attention to what Limbaugh is sellilng.

And just did "they" use that flip against Pres George H W Bush?

Submitted by Gary Hall on Sun, 03/04/2012 - 12:50pm.

Reminds you of how they bullied former President George H.W. Bush to go against his "No New Taxes" campaign pledge, and when he capitulated in 1990, they held it against him in his 1992 campaign assisting Bill Clinton in depicting him as a flipflopper.

And just did "they" use that flip against Pres George H W Bush?

"They," being the key word.  "They" would be the Democrats, the national MSM, liberal pundits, and just about any liberal/Democrat on the street you ever talked to.

I recall a few dozen conversations over the years; most going like this:

"How bout that Bush, 'Read my lips,' what a lying jerk."

My response was usually - "Let me get this straight. You're a Democrat. And you supported the Democrat's effort in getting President Bush to change his mind and to go along with the increased taxes, right? OK, then. Why are you angry at Bush if you supported what he did? Why not just thank him for going your way. Why not just say, 'hey, what a good move?' "

And, that sums up the national media as well. This media that had such a difficult time celebrating the efforts of the younger President Bush, when he took up one of their dear causes (one that President Clinton had turned his back on), and proposed, got passed, implemented, and brought in home on time and within budget, the largest and most successful HIV/Aids program, PEPFAR, which met it's goals.  Millions of lives will be saved because of it, and to this day, I'd wonder if a single national media outlet has actually invited President George W Bush on for a full friendly interview on the topic?  You know, like they do with Clinton.

Maybe that's what Brian Williams was actually after when he kept jabbing his finger at Bush's chest - saying, "hey, you know - we got to get you on and sit down and really discuss some of your great accomplishments, sometime soon - so free up some time for us, would ya? jab - jab - jab. Yea, that was it.

We ARE organized in our own way, raising good productive children. Busy earning a living, moving this nation along.

The Left, as I have learned, have community organizing "jobs", are unemployed, live with mommy and daddy still, don't have a family to attend to, thus why they can be physically mobilized a lot easier and faster.

My email, then a Leftist site who has a list of advertisers. Everywhere there is an AutoZone, there likely is another auto parts store within eyesight.......

Hi, I understand that AutoZone has pulled advertising from the Rush Limbaugh radio program. You've have been taking many calls and emails from those who want nothing better than to shutdown Rush Limbaugh's on air speech, and who wait for days like this where the attempt can be made, based on something considered controversial, by bullying sponsors. Yes, it was controversial. Limbaugh has apologized, and it is time to move on.

I am highly disappointed that you have chosen to pull your advertising. Millions of people listen to the Limbaugh show and many are customers of AutoZone. I will no longer be, and there are likely many others who will no longer be. There are other options within 2 blocks of the AutoZone near me and I will have to take my business there. We are very disappointed the AutoZone has given in to those who are simply wanting to silence those with whom they disagree. That is very dangerous in America, and your pulling of sponsorship due to that pressure is encouragement for their activities to continue.

It's unfortunate that AutoZone succumbed to the organized pounding that is taking place against Limbaugh sponsors in an attempt to squelch speech.

Hopefully AutoZone will reconsider and re-establish sponsorship and let people like this know that disagreement is just that, and that the bullying simply to stomp on disagreeable speech is a danger to our country that.
