Joan Walsh: GOP 'The Party of Old White Men'

By Noel Sheppard | February 29, 2012 | 19:25

A  A
Noel Sheppard's picture

Less than 24 hours after Salon's Joan Walsh trashed Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney's Mormon faith, she was invited on MSNBC to attack him and his colleagues further.

Appearing on Hardball, Walsh said of the GOP, "They’re writing off women, they're writing off Latinos, they’re writing off Asians, they’re writing off young people. It’s really the party of old white men basically" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

JOAN WALSH: We’re talking about making the climate so horrible for immigrants that they will leave. That is, there’s a whole theory around it. And it’s quite right-wing. It’s not even just a funny word. It’s actual, it’s an actual policy and program where they’re, you know, passing all these laws to make people’s lives miserable.

And they’re not going after the Latino vote. They really are, I mean, it is their last stand. It’s like they’re writing off women, they're writing off Latinos, they’re writing off Asians, they’re writing off young people. It’s really the party of old white men basically.

Quite comically, the segment ended with host Chris Matthews saying, "Maybe we ought to have lie detector tests for these politicians. Wouldn't that be interesting?"

I'm all for it, Chris. How 'bout you?

Let's also have lie detectors for television anchors, hosts, and their contributors so that the public will know when folks supposedly giving them the news aren't telling the truth.

Somehow I doubt there'd be a lot of takers in the liberal media ESPECIALLY at MSNBC.

The irony is hilarious since Joan Walsh works for a cable network of 'old white men', MSNBC, who have yet to hire a regular black host and yet they are constantly carping and crowing about the preceived racism and discrimination of the GOP and/or FOX. Joan, you are a shameless, self-promoting hypocrite.

Illegal aliens - Joan Walsh - not immigrants

Submitted by Gary Hall on Wed, 02/29/2012 - 7:38pm.

JOAN WALSH: We’re talking about making the climate so horrible for immigrants that they will leave.

Illegal aliens - Joan Walsh - not "immigrants."

And why not? After all, that's exactly what a majority of the voters want:

National survey from the liberal Pew Research Center for the People and the Press, on the AZ illegal immigrant enforcement bill SB - 1070. The survey summarized the supposedly contentious measures in the bill (the measures the Obama administration blocked in court):

  • 73% said they backed a measure requiring people to produce documents verifying their legal status if police ask for them
  • 67% approve of allowing police to detain anyone who cannot verify that they are in the country legally.

And also, this:

  • Only 25% supported Obama's handling of immigration policy, while 54% said they disapproved.

The Republicans hold the "populist" ground here - would someone please inform them and the national media about that?

Joan Walsh - here's a list of illegal aliens that we want out.

Submitted by Gary Hall on Wed, 02/29/2012 - 7:50pm.

From a March 2011 Government Accounting Report, GAO: CRIMINAL ALIEN STATISTICS Information on Incarcerations, Arrests, and Costs

• The number of criminal aliens incarcerated in California rose to 102,795 in 2009, a 17 percent increase since 2003

• Many are also repeat offenders. GAO auditors say that, based on a survey, criminal alien inmates have been arrested an average of seven different times.

Pretty easy math there -- 102,795 (picture this)  X's 7 crimes each ='s over 700,000 crimes. In California's prisons and jails alone.  Imagine how many have not been arrested and sentenced. I propose that we need a much larger Gitmo available.

I dunno, I see Harry the Weasel, and a whole clown parade of other Senators and Representatives coming from the 'D' side of the aisle...............plus I see Ms. Botox, Nurse Ratchett and other 'female' (do we have proof??) Democrat politicians..........and I've got to think that this old battleaxe - who is ONE of them - is as delusional as they come.

And I know that there are a number of 'old white men' in the Republican party, but if I'm not mistaken, there were a LOT of younger and mixed race Repubs elected during the 2010 mid-terms................men and women.

This is just another standard lie from the out-of-date Democratic handbook..................and lest I be accused of being 'racist', I see quite a few 'old', and definitly STUPID (although not any more stupid than their 'white' counterparts) 'black' people - men and women - in the Democrat party too. But that is probably an 'incendiary' statement, right???

Hate to break it to Joan, but..

Submitted by greggy on Wed, 02/29/2012 - 11:52pm.

in the historic landslide congressional midterms, in which Democrats were absolutely shellacked, it took a LOT more than the "old, white, male" vote to trounce them at the polls.

Republicans will make a big mistake in the upcoming election if they fail to adequately remind the public of why they were swept into control of the House, and nearly took the Senate, in the mid-terms - the public acted in response to the over-reach of a President whose true agenda they began to understand - the re-making of America into a nation other than the one designed in the Constitution.

How quickly the nation has forgotten how massively they intended to expand government, and to expand the intrusiveness of government, through things like cap and trade, for just one example. Two years after the fact, new information continues to emerge about the deleterious effects of the health care bill that the Democrats "had to pass (without even the most superficial review), so the public could find out (after-the-fact) what was IN the bill."

How quickly many in the public have forgotten how harmful the cap and trade bill would have been for many industries, who were already reeling, and the profoundly bad effect this would have had on unemployment.

What too many people fail to realize, is that if Obama is re-elected, and particularly if he is re-elected with even a slim majority in the House, they will not be getting the Obama we've been seeing since the Republicans took the House and nearly won the Senate - they'll be getting the crusading community organizer who will resurrect cap and trade, and every other intrusive government expansion program he possibly can.

This country elected a man to defend and uphold a Constitution that he believes is "fundamentally flawed". Is the country dumb enough to do it again, then try to correct the mistake two years later, after so much damage is already done?

I hope not..

Greggy (Diogenes)

That's just off the top of my head (although I have to admit it took some cogitation to come up with the list, since I typically don't think of people in terms of categories).

Walsh is too blinded politically to see

Submitted by Galvanic on Thu, 03/01/2012 - 9:58am.

While she thinks in terms of appealing to demographic categories of people, conservatives try to appeal to all Americans. The No. 1 issue: Unemployment and the economy. That transcends color, gender, age, and sexual orientation.

NOEL: "Let's also have lie detectors for television anchors, hosts, and their contributors so that the public will know when folks supposedly giving them the news aren't telling the truth."

Here, here! I'm all for that.  We expect politicians to lie.   When George Stephanopoulus was asked if Bill Clinton had kept all his promises, the former Clinton toadie replied, "He kept all the promises he intended to keep."  It's in their blood.

But when journalists lie like they do on MSNBC, they betray a professional ethic and the public's trust.   I'm all for wiring them up for a polygraph.  They could make a reality TV show testing representatives from each network and newspaper; even I would find worth watching.

Isn't there an app?

Submitted by gwalt on Thu, 03/01/2012 - 10:09am.

Isn't there an app that a lie detector? We can just hold the smartphone to the speaker and the app should reveal whether they are lying or not. Might be fun! We could track the Mostly $hit Nothing But Communists wanchors/guests like Drone Walsh.

This pinhead woman exhibits

Submitted by Smartypants on Thu, 03/01/2012 - 10:56am.

This pinhead woman exhibits the classic double-standard of the msm. Any minorities that are associated with the Republican party are immediately excoriated and destroyed. We have Sarah Palin; she was unacceptable to the left. We have Herman Cain--equally unacceptable. Any minorities that deign to be associated with Republicans are criticized and name-called as some kind of traitor. Yet, at the same time, the media continues with its charade that somehow Republicans are nothing but "old white men". This is only because the media wants the Republican party to be about nothing but old white men. This really has nothing to do with race, ethnicity or sex. It has to do with politics. Ms. Walsh really does not want there to be a Republican party, not in the traditional sense anyway. She would be perfectly fine with two liberal parties.

Joan Walsh: Old, White, Ugly AND Stupid

Submitted by Motormouth KOS on Thu, 03/01/2012 - 3:34pm.

Salon Magazine?  Not absorbent enough to serve its ideal purpose, toilet paper.

Salon Magazine?  Based in Frisco, the epicenter of perversion, creeps and anti-American libutards.  I cheer the earthquake that will cleanse us of this scab.

Joan Walsh?  Overweight, under-intelligent and uninformed.
